How to... JB update if unlocked and rooted? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I originally followed the steps below to unlock and root my stock TF300 (had already updated to Jelly Bean prior to unlocking). Now that there is a new Jelly Bean update file, how do update my system (have TWRP). I'm a noob and don't want to screw it up. Thanks!!
1) Download these 2 files:
- Jellybean recovery with fastboot files: Fastboot files + JB recovery
- Root files: Root Files
- You can also download the new CWM Touch recovery if you don't like TWRP: CWM Touch recovery thread
2) Extract the recovery with fastboot files zip and open a command prompt in the same folder of the adb and fastboot files (Shift + Right mouse)
3) Reboot into the bootloader of your tablet, type: adb reboot bootloader
4) When your tablet has reached the bootloader navigate with volume down to the usb icon and press volume up to confirm.
5) To flash the recovery type:
- TWRP: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery tf300t-jb.blob
- CWM: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery CWM-Touch.blob
6) A blue bar will appear and the recovery will be installed, when the blue bar is filled press volume up + power button to reboot into the tablet.
Now we will root the tablet
7) Copy Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed to the internal storage of your tablet. then reboot into the bootloader again.
8) This time you need to select the RCK icon with volume up to enter the recovery image.
9) In recovery flash Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed and reboot into the system
10) Install Supersu from Google Play
11) Open up Supersu, it will ask you to update the binary, choose yes.
12) Now your tablet should be rooted

I'm in the same boat, I installed JB then unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP. 100% stock just rooted and need some help installing the new JB update without wiping.
With my Samsung S3 it was easy to do just download the full firmware and flash it and it would just update the system and I would not loose any apps or settings. I hope this is the case with TF300 as well.
I have downloaded the full firmware off Asus website and just need to flash it, I remember reading a thread that this can be done using recovery and does not wipe. I'm not a noob with flashing I just don't want to wipe and want to make sure.
So please if someone can confirm flashing the full firmware from Asus site using TWRP will not wipe the device?
I don't care about root since i can flash the root zip file using TWRP later I just don't want the tablet to wipe.
EDIT:
Based on this it would seem its simple just flash the full firmware from Asus website and then flash TWRP again and then root it.

Thanks, I went ahead and did the flash and root and it worked just fine!

Dear All
My HK ver 3G XOOM. When I use the one-click-root program, It was crash and holding on the dual core moto logo, I use the method which in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203128
then my xoom can boot-up to system but it only have 4.18G in the internal. When I use the method at the link, but I can't fix the problem. What can I do?
below is the step what I did:
1. When I use the international rom the XOOM is 3.01
2. OTA UPDATE to 3.1
3. use fastboot toe reflash recovery to CWM 3.2
4. go to android recovery
5. saw it is CWM 3.2 recovery mod
6. install zip at SD-card
7. install the Tiamat-Xoom-Rom-2.1-Hammerhead.zip
8. install the Universal Xoom Root.zip

just do unlock it then reboot again ..
You're doing it wrong!!
Steps are:
1. Unlock bootloader (need flashboot and adb drivers from moto)
2. boot up os and turn on USB debugging, on PC open cmd, navigate to android ask folder\platform tools
3. Type 'adb reboot bootloader'
4. Type 'fastboot OEM unlock'
5. follow on-screen instructions on tablet
6. type 'fastboot reboot' in cmd
7. download recovery image and place it in platforn-tools folder.
8. Reboot into bootloader again using adb
9. Type 'fastboot flash recovery *name of recovery image*'
10. Reboot into cwm on tablet to flash universal root zip.
After that you can flash any roms/kernels you want through cwm.

[Q] Clockworkmod Recovery refuses to install on Xoom 3.2.1

So, basically, the details on the Xoom:
Android Version: 3.2.1
Build: HTK75D
Kernel: 2.6.36.3-g111d827 [email protected] #1
Bootloader is unlocked
I am trying to install Tiamat's Clockworkmod image via the ADB method. I do exactly these steps:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery Tiamat-*********-cwm.img
According to the adb console, it says it flashed correctly, and the fastboot also gives the same confirmation.
fastboot reboot
I boot up normally, and run:
adb reboot recovery
It then gives me the dreaded ! mark.
I've spent more than 5 hours trying to get the recovery working, and have tried re downloading the img, changing cables , and the only method that gave me a small glimpse of hope is flashing another img file (cwm 3.0.2.8 flashed) which worked once and then reverted to the ! mark.
Help? If any other info is needed, I will gladly provide.
try this:
1) Flash the recovery via bootloader and the fastboot command
2) After the flash, issue fastboot reboot to reboot the xoom
3) At the M logo during bootup, start hitting the volume down until you see Recovery on the top left corner then hit volume up to select it
That should get you into clockwork mod recovery, after you flash the root package you'll be good to go
Scsa20,
Has this been verified?
Should the offending files, (/system/recovery-from-boot.p OR
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh) be removed per Joe Ferreira's post?
I will try this fix after it has been verified (I've given you a thanks already )

This is assuming that you have Android SDK installed on you PC. - Tutorial found here:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/adb-easy-tutorial/
1. Downloading the rooting-update zip file. Download the zip file from here - http://goo.gl/Om9aP
Now place this on your external sdcard. - Sorry this is a requirement at the moment, like I said this is a bit rushed.
2. Flashing recovery
1. Download this Recovery image. http://bit.ly/iLRAIV
(place this image in you SDK PlatformTools Folder, or which ever folder that contains your adb.exe)
2. If your device is locked, now is a good time to unlock it.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
3. Flash recovery Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
Once you have verification on your device that this has been flashed, reboot your device by holding volume up + power. Then 3 seconds after you see the Motorola logo, hit volume down. You should now see "Android Recovery" in the top left corner. Hit volume up to boot into recovery.
4. Flashing the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file.
If you're in clockwork mod recovery you can continue (This recovery image will say it is clockwork mod) . If you're not looking at clockwork mod, then you need to repeat step 3 again.
In cwm, go into "install zip from sdcard" -> "Choose zip from sdcard", then select the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file you downloaded.
Note: use the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select
Reboot your device and then welcome to your rooted device!
As Always, If this was helpful-hit the Thanks!

This is for Re-locking and Un-Rooting the US WIFI Xoom BUILD HWI69 ONLY
This is for use only on the Wifi-Only Xoom HWI69 build. Check your build number before you install!!!
Please note the following information does contain official Motorola images from a non Motorola source. The information in this thread has been tested, however I can not confirm that it will work for every situation. In no way will I or xda-developers.com be held accountable for any damage resulting from using this information. Use the following with extreme caution.
1. Download the necessary files from here:
http://www.android.net/forum/downloa...?do=file&id=39
2. Unzip the files to the directory you will be running ADB from.
3. Enter the following commands into the command prompt
adb reboot bootloader
Xoom will then reboot into bootloader screen
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock
After the final reboot you should be back to stock, Locked and Un-Rooted.

[Q] Help with rooting please!

I have a TF300, recent OTA Jellybean, unlocked, TWRP installed... but for the life of me I can't figure out how to root or if it is possible.
Most google searches date back to pre-Jellybean. I have tried flashing the hydroponic and stock ROMs but I end up with "signature verification fails" after trying to install via TWRP.
I assume this means I need root access... but I can't install root access without root access?!?
Please help, I know I am probably missing something obvious.
Thanks.

First there are two hydro roms, one JB and one ICS. When you get signature verification error you are most likely flashing an ICS rom, recovery, etc on a JB bootloader.
Try this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697227. It includes most of what you need on XDA for TF300.
There are recovery flashable roots available also.
Good Luck!

You must use this part:
== Part 3 - Install recovery and rooting ==
Let's start with installing the recovery
1) Download these 2 files:
- Jellybean recovery with fastboot files: Fastboot files + JB recovery
- Root files => Root files
- You can also download the new CWM Touch recovery if you don't like TWRP: CWM Touch recovery thread or TWRP recovery and download this file : openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-tf300t-JB.blob
- TWRP: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery twrp.blob

[Nexus 5] TWRP Install No Root

Hi,
Is it possible to install TWRP v3.0.0.0 on a LG Nexus 5 HAMMERHEAD v6.0.1 (MMB29Q) without rooting? Not that it's something I absolutely need to do but by browsing through different sites and tutorials, it seems possible although my own tests prove the contrary...
Firstly, on TWRP official website, it's written that you can:
Fastboot Install Method (No Root Required):
You will need the platform-tools from the Android SDK on your computer. Find the SDK Only section on the page linked and install the SDK and download only the platform-tools to get adb and fastboot binaries.
Windows users will need proper drivers installed on your computer. You can try the Naked ADB drivers or the Universal ADB drivers if you don't already have a working driver installed
On your device, go into Settings -> About and find the Build Number and tap on it 7 times to enable developer settings. Press back and go into Developer Options and enable USB debugging. From your computer, open a command prompt and type:
adb reboot bootloader
You should now be in fastboot mode. Download the correct image file and copy the file into the same folder as your adb and fastboot binaries. Rename the image to twrp.img and type:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.

Click to collapse
I tried this method but it didn't work at all:
After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP.
Click to collapse
Even I booted directly to TWRP recovery mode after I manually flashed it, it obviously didn't patched the stock ROM since after I later booted the phone normally in Android system and rebooted in recovery mode, the stock recovery mode was back, no TWRP!
Secondly, when I used Nexus Root Toolkit (NRT) v2.1.4, I had no choice but to root if I wanted to flash the custom recovery (TWRP). I successfully rooted and installed TWRP permanently using the tool.
Therefore, is installing TWRP without rooting some kind of myth that maybe worked with previous Android build and TWRP versions or is there actually really a way to do so?
I just did it yesterday on the March patch but had to flash twrp twice. The first time it bypassed recovery and booted into the os. After booting back into the bootloader and flashing twrp again it did boot into twrp.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA Free mobile app
To install TWRP, the phone needs to have an unlocked bootloader, not root.
You can flash TWRP using fastboot commands. After flashing TWRP in fastboot, use the volume and power button to boot directly into recovery.
