GS3 in Europe are getting Jelly Bean now! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Just searched Google for S3 Jelly Bean as always, and it seems like phones in Europe are getting their updates now.
Just to share.

http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/24/jelly-bean-ota-update-for-samsung-galaxy-s-iii/
From the above link
----------------------------
The long-awaited roll-out appears to have commenced, with lucky GS III owners in Poland being among the first to get an early official taste of Android 4.1.1. If you hadn't heard, the update will bring a host of subtle yet powerful improvements, including Google Now for anticipating search queries, smooth UI improvements from Project Butter, as well as some Samsung extras already seen on the Galaxy Note II, such as a resizable Pop-up play screen. Hopefully this means the update will soon be sent on its merry way to GS IIIs in other parts of the Old World, and maybe at some point -- dare we suggest it -- those in the US too.

Yea but us Verizon customers will get it last.

That's the only thing I dislike about Verizon. That and locking down bootloaders. but with the great devs we have here, we will have JB Touchwiz months before Verizon releases it

Since we are on the subject, when the Galaxy Note 2 is released on Verizon, wouldn't devs be able to base JB touchwiz ROMs off of the Galaxy Note 2 JB base? I know the Note will have that S Pen thing but I'm sure that's removable

Does anyone know what carrier is getting this jb update?
Edit. Nevermind. I read Portland. But it says Poland. Haha!

When I worked at Verizon we used to test software deeply and daily. Verizon is very picky and minimizes as many big as possible. Honestly, the updates are never perfect as the manufacturer will read the reports we sent in and approve what bugs are left based on time frame for release, if the manufacturer says release it, then Verizon hq gives the yay on it. These oems sometimes allow huge bugs to get out there. (Eh hem, moto before google) I think the other carriers may not test as hard core as vzw. I miss that job.

Yes and thats exactly what I suspect will happen...The only way were getting a non-leaked TW JB rom in a timely fashion, will be from the Note2.

Can't believe this if this is true, anybody know how reputable that site is? I haven't seen any other sites report that It definitely won't be out this year.
Samsung hs their own site that specifies when updates are coming out. All of the major US carriers EXCEPT Verizon said November last time I checked (Monday). Verizon is listed as pending or something like that.

Doesn't the faulty grammar and horrible syntax in this article make you slightly skeptical as to how trustworthy it may be? Typically I distrust full page articles that present themselves as one huge run-on sentence.
Also he doesn't cite any sources, and his other articles cover a huge range of products from cell phones to cars, making it hard to believe he has the inside track on any industry, and just roams around the surface discussing whatever he feels like.
The fact that none of his articles have generated any comments should tell you how seriously his articles are taken.
Android Authority says the same... what a shame, best to start using one if the many jb ROMs we have, of course a vzw leak would be nice too.

I was with Sprint before Verizon and I thought Sprint was bad at releasing updates, so it seems each carrier is bad at releasing updates. Glad there's custom ROMs.
Wow this is crazy, I get on the forums everyday of hoping I see a JB update talk ar something. Guess I'll stay on ICS because it seems like every JB Rom has something broken or something. I'll stay on my stable ICS ROM.

Mountain out of a molehill. You guys are putting way too much emphasis on spotty sourcing and broken english.
How does "in the coming months" and them letting carriers announce dates on their own turn into 2013?
We already have fully working JB roms both touchwiz and AOSP With rooting there's no need to wait on silly verizon to get us jellybean
So after jelly bean, it's up to manufacturers to post updates and not carriers correct?

This is why we want the "Official" because all those bugs and quirks that are not working properly can be hammered out. I agree that Stock blows, but stock source is the key. Especially if we get the kernel source. Then all will be well with out custom ROMs/Kernels.
FWIW, this was posted on the TMo SGS3 side from engadget:
Samsung will update US Galaxy S III devices to Jelly Bean 'in the coming months'. Again, no time lines, just more carrier dependency.

LiquidSmooth for a fact, i say that because its been my daily driver the past couple weeks and i haven't had a single issue with it. Granted its AOSP and some people may not like that. But gps, bluetooth, nfc, data, wifi, etc all work
While I agree that most of us root and don't really need to wait for a carrier to release an update I can't stand when people say that. We shouldn't need to do that. These damn carriers and OEMs should be supporting their devices, that we spend our hard earned money on, in a better manner.

What makes it important to us, is the changes Samsung made to the TouchWIZ framework in 4.1.2:
Multi-View Multitasking - The ability to run two different apps simultaneously on one screen.

Do any of the US variants even have that? Pretty sure they reserved that for just the international version and the note 2 because of the quad core.

Well, we don't have any 4.1.2 US variant builds yet (even leaks), so it's hard to say whether or not we will get the Multitasking built in. What is likely though, is that we will get the framework changes that support it (even if Samsung doesn't provide the actual application to do it). In that case, it will be a simple port to get it up and running.

I'm pretty sure we'll get it. There's lots of stuff in the framework that's associated with the multi-view feature such as images and XML files so it's a safe bet that it'll come to the US variants.
Regarding multi view, scott on the clean rom forum said its definitely in the framework, but its "turned off" in almost 180 something files, he said it would be painstakingly time consuming , byt someone with the time and knowledge could definitely turn it on.

LOL Verizon getting 4.1.2
WOW you have your hopes high, they still haven't released 4.1.1. and I'm using a leaked version and there are still bugs in it. I highly doubt we will see 4.1.2 before April.

4.2.2 rolling out soon (good news for cm10.1 bluetooth)

I was waiting for them to address the screen stutter and battery drain issues that my wife's S3 has been experiencing. Plus, I'm rooted with google wallet working and other customizations that I don't feel like redoing for JB until those bugs are fixed. Sort of the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" mentality.

Who knows when 4.2.x will get pushed to VZW phones, BUT I would be shocked if it wasn't 4.2.2 or some higher iteration. It doesn't make sense to go to 4.2.1 at this point. Back in the GB days, it wasn't uncommon to go from froyo to 2.3.5 or 2.3.7
It is Verizon's slow update policy that made me root in the first place. Next phone I get, I'll consider a google phone and a pre-paid plan somewhere...
Ditto on that ... I am just not sold on pre-paid plans yet. I would like either the ubuntu phone or nexus phone from google.

Article by CNET's Eric Mack. Let me introduce you to this gentleman. About a year ago, he posted articles about the upcoming ICS update to the Droid Razr. Twice. Both wrong. One cited a screenshot allegedly from a Best Buy employee, the other a "secret source inside Verizon". His last wolf-cry was about a month and a half wrong.
Bottom line, take anything he says with a huge grain of salt. He's usually wrong.

My CM experience was limited to my previous phone, OG Epic on Sprint. Thanks, but no thanks - staying with TW, as I like my phone as problem free as possible (app bug issues in Android are bad enough). Before someone starts saying that their CM in GS3 runs perfectly - it has never been my own experience. I can live with slightly worse battery life provided everything else works as intended.

Lmao, by the time VZW released ICS for the HTC Thunderbolt, it was already outdated due to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and 4.2.2. I seriously wonder how much money VZW loses by spending too much time doing quality testing on their updates.
On the other hand, I hope Samsung can leverage their bargaining power and "push" Verizon to get the software released. Then again...Samsung's not in any hurry since they'd rather users go and buy the S4 if they want newer software.
