You don't unlock the bootloader on Samsung devices.
You flash a custom recovery via Odin and then use the recovery to flash the root package.
There are already plenty of guides around if you take a look.

Why would anyone have any use for it over here? It doesn't do anything we can't already do.
Plus, Safestrap is extremely device-specific.
Really I'm not sure if I. Want to unlock bootloader as of yet. And coming from the og photon with locked boot loader I have no experience with any other recovery method.
Could i unlock after rooting by the exploit method.

Unlocking helps you to root, so you cant unlock AFTER rooting. You also need to be rooted to flash custom recoveries

Ohh well in that case, no, just unlock the bootloader directly
My mistake, its just that the only root methods for the Photon that I've seen so far unlock your bootloader at the same time
So just ignore what I said and unlock directly

Your two options are to use Odin and flash a recovery or use casual. If you have not used Odin before then casual it's more fool proof. If you want to stay true to Samsung root then do the Odin.

OK cool I can do that my boot loader needs to be unlocked to flash CWM through Odin otherwise it will brick my device I used official phone rebels rooting method last time I rooted not sure it would work this time since I'm not on the other boot loader anymore

So I tried installing this last week had trouble and got me on the screen that says something like 'this is non Verizon please take to nearest Verizon store' SOMETHING LIKE THAT, sure you'll know what I'm talking about. And I want to try over but I'm not to sure why that happened. I'm THINKING it was because phone wasn't unlocked. But I'm not to sure if it was locked of unlocked. Is there several reasons that message can come up or is there one main cause, that cause being phone wasn't unlocked??

Only reason why you saw this prompt is because the bootloader is still locked. Odin flash a stock image then use Casual to root and unlock or use Invisiblek's guide on Rootzwiki to root and unlock via Odin. What root utility did you use to root?

Well I got it unlocked and rooted, so when I do the wipe and factory reset then flash rom it should all be fine right? The factory reset and wipe won't lock the bootloader?

I just got my one plus one yesterday. And I am wanting to just root the phone. But I know i will need a custom recovery and to unlock the bootloader. But i don't want to install any roms. So if I update this phone when a custom recovery is installed will it brick the phone?
Sent from my One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No it wont brick the phone, provided you follow the rooting and unlocking procedure correctly.
Sent from my One using XDA Free mobile app
You can root without installing a custom recovery. Keep reading.
