I am lost.
I had FireFly 2.05 on my SGS (ATT US version) and was going to update to 2.1. I followed the procedure as I aways do; ODIN 1 click to stock rom, master clear, copy update.zip and rom file and reboot into recovery. This time however I get the following error
E:Can't symlink /system/xbin/su SYSTEM:bin/su
E:Failure at line 14
I checked some notes on this and found out that it might be a currupt file. So I re-downloaded FireFly2.1 again and transfered the file to the internal SD card. The outcome was the same.
Then I copied the original 2.05 version back which I know was fine and I still get the same error. Even after a full stock 1-click and master clear the above error will not go away.
Is my internal SD card messed up? Or am I missing something else?
It's running stock right now and all seems to work fine, but I cannot stand all the bloatware and other crap ATT puts on the phone and really want to try FireFly2.1.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Did you flash clockwork recovery
Did you root the phone after you flashed back to stock?

Agree with DaveyBB - sounds like you are not rooted.

You do not need to root on stock just flash clockwork with update zip
The update.zip i use is the current clockwork recovery.
I boot into the stock e2 recovery, then apply cw recovery and update the rom. Never had to root stock before when i update via cw recovery.
I will try to root stock first this time and then apply rom via recovery.
Thx

To install clockwork select reinstall packages twice
The issue is not with cw recovery. I am already in it, but the error that i get is after i click "yes apply this zip"... The script starts to format the system, data, datadata, etc. And then this error shows up after files ate copied

Have you tried re download of rom package?
My only guess is that clockwork and the rom are not working well. I would try downloading a different clockwork

Done that too.
So just to reiterate...
I had FireFly2.05 running and many other cooked Android 2.1 and 2.2 roms before this. I follow the instrution of the cooks to the 't' on how to update to the newest rom and never had any issue.
This time I downloaded FireFly2.1 and also Phoenix4.5 from the respective cooks and followed the instructions as usual. The issues does not show up until the 'copy files' part of the script is running (formating of the filesystem already passed).
All I can imagine are these:
1) The transfer from the PC to the Phone is corrupt (ruled out the download from the net as even the existing FireFly2.05 rom no longer loads)
2) The internal SD card is messes up
3) There is some configuration change I am not aware off that prevents the install of the cooked rom.
Maybe try to reformat sd through clockwork
Problem solved, kind of.
My desktop PC, which I always use to transfer the files is somehow responsible for the error I get in CWM recovery. I ended up using my laptop to transfer the ROM to the phone and it worked again.
Something is messing up the USB transfer? That seems very odd but I am glad it's not the phone that caused the issue.
If I find out what the issue is with my Desktop I will post again just in case this rather rare issue might happen to someone else.

One Question:
What method are you using to enter recovery method when you attempt to flash the rom? And what color is your recovery menu (should be green)?
(Don't go into recovery via rom manager. Try entering recovery via your advanced power menu)

I don't think he's getting into Clockwork via ROM Manager, as he's said multiple times he's using the CWM update.zip; reinstalling packages in 2e recovery to get to CWM.
He's also said he doesn't believe this to be an issue with Clockwork (and I don't either). And I'm also pretty sure we're not dealing with newbie mistakes of Android Recovery vs. Clockwork Recovery.
any chance you're leaving your usb plugged into your cappy while you're trying to flash it?
Alrite, my phone is ****ing stuck on bootloop, while installing Stock ROM. I install'd stock rom via Odin, After flashing i completed and it says 'Close the serial port and wait until reboot'. So i waited until reboot and after GT-S5670 it show'd me the clockwork mod screen loading something i only remember the last line "E:/can't mount/system.Reboot" (something like that) and voila it's stuck in bootloop of bloody samsung logo. I tried 2 stock roms, DDKT3 and DXKT7, same result on both the ROMS.
Any idea?
And i've also tried replacing cwm version with diff. one. (Same results)
EDIT: I'm sorry but I DON'T KNOW HOW, it fixed it self. After 10 minutes, i started my phone and thought to install custom ROM. CWM was gone and samsung official recovery was there. So i restarted my phone, and it was fixed. But i'm still wondering that i got that message ("E:/can't mount/system.Reboot") like 3 times after every flash of stock ROM done through ODIN at first 2 flashes done (DDKT3) was useless and showed that error and also after the 3rd flash (DXKT7) but after some time , it fixed it self. Still thinking why and how?
EDIT2: Mods can delete this thread if they feel like it's useless. :/

And this is what t i guess:
-You use a custom rom
-Now you flash an stock rom
I think it because your DATA partition is EXT4, stock rom doesnt support EXT4. And in DDKT3,DXKT7 has no data.rfs so DATA partition doesnt convert to RFS
As you said above, Go to stock Recovery and do a wipe/reset Data format DATA partition to RFS

Come one man.. stop this smartflash ideas. and bootv21e.
first smartflash give you many problems asi IMEI lost, then you go back to GB with this 21e.
So... now to Karim Kahale
Explain us what you had before PACMAN
1. Bootloaders?
2. Recovery?
3. GB or ICS?
4. was this mod ROM or stock?
5. How did you flash it? Did you clean any thing. Did you read all on the first page?
6. Is this PACMAN on dual boot or not?
Then we can start thinking about that.
some ides
- if you had stock ICS before with locked bootloader - probably the kernel has to be changed
- if you had GB - look the first page
- go to recovery and flash another Rom if you have - before that keep the power button for 20 sec to be sure that you stop the phone, and then start it for recovery.
.
But do not use SmartFlash.., if you go for such a big system change... let use LG Flash Tool and use 28b big partition.
edit: someone with the same problem like you link

The Fact You see booti:mmcread0 (AFAIK Stock loader does not display anything~) means you wkparkbootloader but which version if not 1.25a flash it then reflash the rom i also got that with a previous version of pacman just reflash your rom or try another think it has something todo with the kernel
Before PACMAN I had the same problem with MIUI by OptimusRS. But I couldn't enter recovery mode. Then, when I boot in recovery, i couldn't boot phone in normal mode! Flashing with CWM didn't work.
Then I flashed normal v28b (without fls file, only bin) with normal partitions from xbsall. Than i flashed bootloader and CWM using All-In-One by OS-hacking version 1.2 (in the first post of this tool there is an information "6- ICS Bootloaders (wkpark's 1.25a Bootloaders)"
PACMAN I downloaded from there and read all on the first page.
Version pac_p920-nightly-20130613 but I couldn't flash it because when I tried it in CWM was: assert fail Status 7 instalation aborted so I delete updater script assert and then flashed rom and gapps. Before flashing I did "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache". Anything more.
Then I wrote this thread. I boot in recovery mode (to see does it work) and now I can't boot normal. Only CWM mode. Flashing rom with CWM doesn't help. That same as it was with MIUI. What should I do now? If I flash 28b with flashtool what should I do next?

probably you are in recovery "Recovery Loop". take the file of the fires post form this threat. Then you flash new recovery.
And read the whole first post there. hope this work for you
Thank you bro! I'll try this today. Now I am on another computer but second is in my neighborhood. There I have all needed files. Today I'll edit this post and tell you does it work.
EDIT:
I've got a problem :/ When I try: mounts and storage>mount USB storage it doesn't work. I can't mount sdcard because my sd card reader is damaged. Why? I don't know.
When I replaced my digitizer in phone reader stopped working. Before it works. I was on ported acura (korean based on port from xbsall). After that I flashed v21e Gingerbread and reader didn't work.
What can I do? I want use my sdcard but I can't.
EDIT 2:
I couldn't copy file to phone so I flashed v28b normal partitions by xbsall. Please tell me, what should I do now? I don't wanna flash next time with LG Flashtool.

Do you want ICS or JB?
In both cases you should do that:
1. Download this tool. Probably you have it already.
2. Flash with it EXACTLY:
(8- Flash ICS BootLoader)
(6- Flash TWRP Recovery (version 2.3). - Yes... this one. not the one for ICS.
3. Start the 28b that you have and format both internal and external card - make a copy before that
4. Reboot in recovery and install the custom Rom according to the instruction
Unfortunately you install the normal partition so many roms will not work. I suggest you that you install the big partition 28b. with it all roms work.

JB Kernels are still not mature for O3D. And there is where you get more battery and speed. Look in my signature what I use. For me is the best combo. if you delete around 40 apps that you do not use form Darkroom V4 XXL ROM and put Acura Next Level V4 KERNEL and tune it good - you can get around 2-3 days using your phone in light condition. I could not get more than 24h with any JB and tunings.
Edit: only the BIN. take the fls form 30a

And:
How can my sd card reader damage? Is this problem of system or hardware problem? When I was on ported ICS I didn't flash bootv21e. At once I flashed normal v21e. Maybe it's the problem?
it is not damaged. probably you have to re-format it within the system you use. search around the forum - i do not have in mind in the moment. Was s.t. about ported ICS and P920 ICS file system.
OptimusRs is a good developer. I have not test his rom but is based on 30A so probably is OK for you if you are from Europa.

I think this has basically been said before, by defcomg and others, but it could be from a bad flash due to incorrect driver install or incomplete flash. Yes, you will need to use LG Flash Tool to reflash. Follow 1-2 here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39269819
then install whatever rom you wish. Just be aware that some custom roms require wkpark bootloader to be installed first, as has been said before.
I have not tried installing Pacman.

Sorry that I haven't replied. I was in Italy ;D
So, if i flash it, will sd card reader work?
If it was working before, it should. Mine is working. I have heard of this issue before with Pacman; I think it is a bug with some versions of it, but don't quote me on that. There is probably some other way to fix it, but flashing a ROM known to work is one way.

try flashing the Rom the way u downloaded and don't try any modification or dint unzip and rezip, flash a fresh download.
full wipe required to boot
in cwm go to mounts and storage and mount all that is unmounted.
Then flash the rom.
This is common to all 10.1 A1 and A2 roms.
Hello. Download and install again and all will be well.=))

Well i have the same problem , though how it started is weird. i got CM11 working on the same model , when i tried retsore backup via recovery mode, it suddenly froze, said no data found , and eversince i cant do anything with the phone.i can only start recovery mode, or download mode . i cant flash it because ODIN doesnt add my phone , i have reinstalled samsung drivers several times with no luck . is there any other way to fix this ? can it be fixed at all ?:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
Copy cm11 to ext SD card using a card reader and flash it via cwm recovery. Good luck.

That can certainly be done. But it's not the norm.

Thanks Nardholio. I'm obviously missing some important feature CWM offers thatthe "odin process" does not. Is it seamless backup amd restore? Or is it the possibility of adding patches and new stuff - say, gapps on top of CM?

CWM offers both of those things as an advantage, yes. You also can use CWM with the Stock image to gain the backup and restore features, amongst others.
And really, if you're already running Stock JB, the process is as simple as:
Place The cm-10.2-XXXXXXXX-NIGHTLY-apexqtmo.zip and gapps zip files on your phone, either on the 'internal' or external SD Card. (This even is optional, as they can be sideloaded if you have adb)
Flash CWM with Odin or Heimdall.
Reboot into recovery
Flash the cm nightly.zip
Flash the gapps.zip
wipe /cache with CWM.
Issue a factory reset with CWM.
Reboot to system.
If you're still on ICS, then you just need to add the steps of flashing the JB-stock-modem.zip and JB-stock-bootloader.zip before flashing the cm-nightly.zip (Turn GPS OFF before flashing these, specifically the modem, just to be on the safe side)
If you perform a backup with CWM before flashing anything, you can restore your stock system as you please.
If you simply want to root your relay, flash an appropriate recovery flashable zip copy of Superuser or SuperSU instead of flashing anything else.
kilr00y, along with providing the JB-stock-modem and JB-stock-bootloader recovery-flashable zip files, also provided a JB-stock-image.zip that can be used to go back to a stock-like system.
CWM allows you for a much greater amount of control over your phone, even when still running a stock image, due to the flexibility of being able to flash new applications directly to the system directories (such as Superuser/SuperSU) without having to have everything be signed by Samsung.

just booted into apex CM 347 nightly after the... ehem... peculiar apex logo thanks a lot for your effort.
now, I am a noob but can find my way around. I still think the whole process (CM and co, not the relay 4g per se) is a bit convoluted and underdocumented. just an example: I downloaded the IMG file from CWM but it took me a while to figure out that I had to transform it into md5 for it to play nice with odin, etc.
buy hey. I'm going to setup my system.

In all honesty, ODIN itself is an underdocumented POS, the recovery.img file (or in this case, the renamed apexq_recovery-10.2.img file if you were following along with the wiki) comes right from the build process, it can be flashed directly without much tooling about with it using heimdal, which is an open source replacement for ODIN, that works very well. Heimdall can be used optionally with a GUI, but I personally use it from the command line, to get it to flash a recovery image to the recovery partition of a Relay, it's simply:
heimdall flash --recovery apexq_recovery-10.2.img

just booted into apex CM 347 nightly after the... ehem... peculiar apex logo thanks a lot for your effort.
now, I am a noob but can find my way around. I still think the whole process (CM and co, not the relay 4g per se) is a bit convoluted and underdocumented. just an example: I downloaded the IMG file from CWM but it took me a while to figure out that I had to transform it into md5 for it to play nice with odin, etc.
buy hey. I'm going to setup my system.
thanks everyone!!

How did you transform the img to md5 (I can also take the cwm in md5 format from the root thread, am I right?) ?
So I can flash anything without root using this method (even recovery) ? I couldn't do this with my desire Z, it's confusing me !
Which recovery should I flash to use cm10.2 (the cwm or the apexq_recovery-10.2.img ?) ?
=> If I use an older recovery I can't flash any jelly been rom's ?

google 'install cyanogenmod samsung relay' and follow 'how to install cyanogenmod for samsung relay' wiki. 'installing cyanogenmod from recovery' is the same as for desire z
