Can't get full webpages on XDA website on my PC..help! - General Questions and Answers

Ok, so I use the xda app on my Nook Tablet, but when going to the website via google browser on my windows xp computer, the webpages are not downloading completely....I get the top Navigation Bar and whatever pop up ad is running but no info below! What's up with this? I need to get in via my PC to download some ROMs and apps.
Is this because I'm running xp instead of windows 7?
I can get the full pages on my browser on the Nook Tablet (rooted) but can't afford enough dropbox storage to get all the ROMs and other files I need uploaded and downloaded to my PC. Anyway, this just seems odd.
This is probably something technically stupid, but, please help if you can!
Thanks..

It may seem simple, but have you tried using a different browser on your PC?
I'm a product of the system I was born to destroy!

Can't get full xda website using XP/Explorer 8 huh?
Oh yes, been there done that! Oddly, on my mom's computer running windows 7 I had no problems.....but it seems hard to believe having xp would limit me that way. I used to be able to get in and see just fine until the last month or so. Checked Norton for any blocks/limitations but none I could see!
Totally perplexed. I am running out of hard drive space but can't see why that would make this happen, unless RAM somehow dips in when needed? But no problems on any other sites!
I am using Explore 8 as primary browser as 9 won't load on xp.....perhaps this is it?
Thanks for your reply. Any other ideas? Any devs or admins out there who can answer?

I'm fairly certain the remote desktop protocol in newer MacOS revisions is based on VNC.

it is. that being said, i tried to set up android vnc viewer to work with my infuse/macbook pro running lion, and it made my computer go nuts.
even when i wasn't using the app, it ate up all of my system resources. it made my computer pretty much unresponsive, and it made my computer heat up to 200+ degrees F. this persisted through several reboots. i still cannot pinpont how i fixed it, but eventually i was able to get the computer back to normal.
haven't been brave enough to try again.
Yikes! Mac is not fun for interfacing with my infuse. I guess Ill just keep em apart. Thanks for the feed backĀ”

control you phone via your pc

anyone know of a app that you can control your phone via pc make phone calls text etc... i am not rooted as of now so i need something that does not require root would be sweet... pain in butt to text back on my dock have to pull the damn thing out !!!
I can almost guaranty that anything able to do what you want will require root. I could be wrong but don't think so.
Unfortunately the only 1 I know of that works is webkey, it requires root but works ok.

Droid VNC Server allows you to do this. I have it on my phone, but I'm fairly sure it requires root, just like many other great applications. Is there something that is preventing you from rooting?
There are many great resources on this site if you need help getting started.
By the way, Droid VNC Server does eat up CPU on the phone, but that shouldn't be much of a problem if you aren't doing anything too intensive and you are plugged in...
The fact that my phone and my pc can't communicate that is why I. Have not rooted

Have you installed the Samsung drivers for USB?

Maybe try that out or use Google Voice. I haven't used either in the way that you are describing but it might be worth looking in to these options.

[Q][UBUNTU] How well does ubuntu run on the tf101, anyone tried using elcipse on it?

Now that i have the dock i am wanting to try franks tool and dual boot. I have searched for videos of it running but all i have found are people installing ubuntu and not really using it. So my question is how responsive/sluggish is it? And has anyone tried coding in elcipse with it on the TF because that is what I would want to do with it.
thanks for your time.

Ubuntu
Ubuntu is very sluggish in unity(at least for me), but with lxde(i like lxde because its highly customizeable and i am used to use windows) its really fast in gimp, abiword, supertux(XD), libre office, file manager and browser. Watchig flash vdeos works, but its sometimes VEEEERY laggy, and sometimes its ok (maybe because i chosed the method with lopmounted .img on /sdcard, but i dont really know if its faster with the nvflash method.)
All in all, i really like it and normally it is fast with programs, i didnt test eclipse so i dont know how it runs.

I tried
JDK from Sun can't even run cuz it's meant for x86. OpenJDK installed and ran fine. Launched Eclipse on it, click and wait 1s for response. Tomcat ran and served default page without problems, though I didn't test more. Figured I won't be able to code productively with that kind of lag. :silly:
Was running default lilstevie kernel, couldn't get Jhinta kernel to work :crying:
thinks for the input, I knew it wouldnt be fast but I thought if I could make small changes to the code and then email out the apk to my customers it might work in a pinch. that way I wouldn't have to lug around my laptop with me everywhere.

have you tried AIDE? it's extremely useable for development with the keyboard doc. It's can be slow to build large apks, but otherwise it performs VERY well.

As an alternative, you could set up a VPN with a computer you have at home and RDP/VNC into it for access to you development environment. For testing you can use ADB over wifi, routed through the VPN.

Surface Delivered
Received mine today also.
I am having a hard time linking my outlook Microsoft account and my old Xbox live account otherwise having fun.
I wonder if either of you could do a test for me on your Surface please?
Can you open up a powerpoint presentation, and then try and "Print to Onenote" I know this is possible in Office 2010 and Office 2013, I am very keen to see if its still there in the RT version?
Or is there any other way of sending a powerpoint show to Onenote?
Cheers

Just got my 64gb delivered a few minutes ago. There were very little instructions with it. I got my Microsoft account linked up but not sure how to get all my contacts and calender synced up with my Office 2010 on my desktop. I guess the days of Acticesync are gone and it all has to be done through the cloud. Is there any way to sync it up with a desktop standalone Office program?
Otherwise very cool.

Bluestacks isn't in the store yet - I just checked (LOL). We need to reasch out to them and find out their timeline.
First Gotcha
The first limitation I've encountered that I'm not real fond of is the lack of POP3 support in the mail client. If you go to Mail -> Settings -> Add -> Other Accounts, it let's you enter the info for a pop3 account then populates a screen with the info it's retrieved from the server, then shuts down with no message. I don't like that.

Yea.. I know they are planning on supporting it, but they didn't say when. I'm good with playing with it all for now and I just got it connected with Xbox music(got a free year for being one of the first 100 in the store!) so that should keep me occupied for a few days lol

The only problem I have with my surface is that it doesnt treat the microsd card as part of the library. The sd card is only useful for transferring media or watching or listening to one file at a time. Other than that it is great. I have to admit thatbi like my lenovo yoga a little more.

I had heard that the MicrosSD would not house apps, but only media but did not realize it would not be part of the library. I am sure that will be addressed.
The only issue I have had is the Wifi disconnecting and I am right next to my router.
Its a windows 8/ rt thing because my wibdows 8 computer does the same thing.

What about the google applications? Are there any google map or gmail? How is the readability on the browser compared to an Ipad with retina display? And finally...have somebody tested any games?

No gmail yet. Readability is great. Web pages fill up the screen perfectly. I played hydro thunder hurricane and it ran at 30fps. Looks like a more graphically demanding version of riptide. I have fond memories of hydro thunder from my dreamcast days.

You can get the sd media into the library. It involves going into disk management (via desktop mode) and adding a mapping to a local ntfs folder (you need to create this folder on the c: drive of your surface. Once you do this, you can then add the local directory (I created c:\media and mapped separate folders for each library, i.e. Music/pictures/videos) or subdirectory to your library.
There is a thread on wpcentral discussing this.

Odin Not Working in Windows 8

So, from my own experience so far it appears that Odin 3.x does not work in Windows 8. The app will lock up the entire operating system while flashing.
Is anyone else having this experience?
I haven't tried odin, but MTP locks up the OS when I try to rename a file/folder or drag something into a different folder.

Good lord. Everyone knows that there are plenty of people (especially on internet forums) that are afraid of change, and the departure from former Windows releases scares them. If you don't like it, cool. Don't upgrade. Stop trying to convince the world not to use it. Not liking Windows 8 is a matter of opinion, not fact. I'm really disappointed that so many people cant just let it go. Stop hijacking other peoples honest attempts to solicit help to bash the product, please.
