Chameleon Launcher working on phone! - Samsung Infuse 4G

Anyone seen this? Saw a YouTube video.. looks cool.
Any idea if we can make this compatible with our phones? I know its a small screen, but I think it would still be fun.

EDIT: got it working on the phone. Screen shots below

It looks like tablets only... Says its compatible for my tablet but not the infuse. We could try, but those widgets look like they would be too big, only fitting like two on each screen.

$10.00 - 3 star user reviews - for tablets - think I'll pass.

Got it working
http://chameleonlauncher.com/widgets/makeawidget/
Here it tells you how to make your own custom widgets..
Its definitely not ideal running it on the smaller screen. But very different and cool to try out.
I could see how this could be an awesome launcher on a larger screened tablet!

OK I got it working a little better. Using paranoid android. I went into paranoid settings and set the DPI for chameleon to 160 instead of the default 240..
Heres the result.. much more use able screen space

That's quite interesting - nice job getting it to work! I really like the look from the screenshots you and others have posted of this launcher. It seems like a very nice cross between most current Android launchers and Windows Phone 7 launcher... but just the good parts!
I agree though, it's a bit tough to swallow $10 for most apps, especially since this was on Kickstarter which means people donated cash to get it developed... I wonder how much money the developers have ponied up out of their own pockets...
Either way, that's a nice looking launcher - I'm interested to see where it goes in the future!

I didn't pay $10.
Just testing it out. It's actually really nice after changing the DPI. Much more use able. I especially like how you can set different home pages and set times or locations for them to show up. For example home and work, you can set different layouts and have them automatically switch when your at that location or a set time. Very useful!

Completely different! Sizeable widgets take up most of the page. You can make your own custom widgets too. With the DPI set at 160 you can get three icon shortcuts on the bottom, but you can swipe left or right to show hidden ones.

Hopefully they didn't have to give up any of their own money, that's kind of the beauty of kickstarter for projects such as this. Just because it was crowd funded it doesn't mean it needs to be free to those who didn't donate a thing.

I definitely agree with this statement. Why should the developers have to put up a single cent of their money? In the real world developers get paid for the work that they do. The beauty of Android is that these developers can come home from work and develop an app either for fun or on the side for extra income. Tons of quality apps get distributed either for free or for a minimal fee. Don't get spoiled by that. This is a quality app that is aiming to be the center of your phone on a daily base.
If this was another free app people would be lauding the developers for their hard work and anticipating what this app could become with further development. I'm sure plenty of people would be willing to donate at least $10 or more via a donate link. They are simply asking for money so that they can focus more time towards the development of an application that they believe people will get more than $10 worth of usage out of.
Think about what that money from kickstarter purchased? It wasn't code... you can't just go out and purchase the code for your app. Kickstarter gives developers the money they need so that they can have an income for their coding work. If a developer wants Android app development to be his/her main focus then they either need to already have a hit app on the market before they quit their day job, take out a loan so that they can support themselves while they develop their hit idea, or crowd source to fund the app. Yeah, as it was stated "people donated cash to get it developed", but as I see it those people kickstarted this app so that they could see it become a reality and get their hands on it. Not so other people could get it cheaper.
Now is the $10 price range for everyone? no. But I don't see how it could be considered priced out of proportion. If the user plans on using this app on a daily basis, and see regular development of new features then they are definitely getting their money out of it. I've seen teenagers with no income drop 5-10x that amount on a piece of software, albeit those are usually games, but productivity software usually comes with a higher price tag anyways. Would I like to see the price of this software drop in half? Definitely, but I can still respect that it has enough value in the application for the price tag to be warranted.
Onto the main subject of this post. I'm currently testing v1.1 out on my old T-Mobile G2 running JB. Even though it's an older phone this app runs beautifully on it. DPI definitely had to be adjusted for this tablet oriented app to run fit properly on my phone (set it at 160 from 240), but once that is done everything fits nearly perfect. The only qualm I have with running this on a phone is the dock. Hopefully with further development they will come out with a phone version that allows a bit more customization on the dock. I'm only able to get three icons to appear at a time (six in landscape) due to everything being compressed down to my smaller screen size. Mix in some of Nova/Apex launcher's dock features and this app would be prime for phone use. I just installed this on my phone last night, so I'll get back to everyone once I have a better feel on how this launcher works out on day to day use in a phone environment.

I see Dots!
I prefer Circle Launcher light. It's free, customizable and I like the circles.... :highfive:

This launcher looks cool.
I would like to try if this launcher is not to slow.
How is your experience with this launcher?

um there already "live" widgets. every widget is inherently live, otherwise its just an icon. what specifically are you looking for
how about some live app shortcuts... to use with Desktop Visualizer etc.
they could move around in different directions and such
imagine a blue wallpaper and icons shaped like clouds that are around your screen
adam might be on to something haha

but what I was sayin tho my widgets don't move they just sit on the screen that gets old after a while I already got moving walpapers the widgets should do some moving too like for the messages widgets the mail icon u just see a little blue picture and lines the lines should be letters...it should look like I'm typing something

I checked out that tathome stuff.....and while it is ridiculously sick....its been in the works for just about a year now. I saw this work of genius seven months or so ago, and its still not out with any word of where its progress is at or perhaps a release date. This would keep me from switching to WP7 by the end of the year....but as of now the UI android has is not as smooth as it sooo could be, as everyone can plainly see in the demo video of tathome.
If anyone has any word on this, I'm quite sure it would be much appreciated by alot of people.
if you build it...they will come...
agreed, tathome looked sick... S E V E N months ago. sad its not released yet, i signed up for beta and STILL no word...not that i care a whole lot, but it did look smooth.
however, the switching back to a winmo device from evo is a bit harsh. i would rather be beaten to death by kimbo slice with a g1 before doing such a thing...

WP7 For HTC EVO... Well kind of: Launcher 7

Hello all,
I have searched the forums for the EVO 4G and found nothing on this so I thought I'd share.
I recently came across a wonderful home screen replacement in the android market. I was looking for a way to get a simple UI for my phone that didn't use many resources. I began on XDA and then branched out from here. A couple Google searches later, I found an app in the Android Market that replaces your home screen with Windows Phone 7's Metro UI. This UI is simple, easy to use, fast, and above all it works 100% of the time for me. I wanted to share it with you guys because I know there are quite a few people interested in a WP7 port to the EVO. This application is probably as close as we will get for a while and it comes really close to mimicking the UI of WP7 perfectly. You can set custom backgrounds, add any application or non-HTC widget as a tile on the Home Screen, adjust the animations for more eye candy or more performance (although full eye candy works just as fast for me), and many more.
I am going to try and build a ROM with this Homescreen replacing HTC sense to free up both internal and RAM memory. If I can accomplish this using the basic ROM kitchen, I will post another thread about this in the development thread and provide a download.
I have the link to the Android Market page below but if you want to install it straight from your phone, just search for Launcher 7 in the android market. There is a free and a paid version. I have the free, but I am going to buy the paid version very soon. If I make a ROM, it will include the free version for obvious reasons.
Links To Android Market pages:
Free version: https://market.android.com/details?id=info.tikuwarez.launcher3&hl=en
Paid Version: https://market.android.com/details?id=info.tikusoft.launcher7&hl=en
Disclaimer: I did not make this application, nor do I claim any rights to it. All credit goes to the developer,Timo Kujala, for their awesome work on this application. I am not responsible if this messes up your phone (it most likely will not) in any way. I am also not responsible if you get hit by a bus while playing with your new layout lol.
I hope you guys enjoy this awesome little app as much as me and give feedback on whether or not you would like to see a ROM with this as the main launcher.
Nice find!

Thanks for the post but that's a different app... It looks cool too but I'm working with Launcher 7 specifically as far as asking permission from the developer. I am not claiming to be on the cutting edge with this. Launcher 7 itself has been around quite a while. I like the idea of posting other WP7 launchers though so if you have them go on and post them.

Anyone that would be willing to try the ROM if I built it? I don't want to spend the time if no one wants it.
I'm actually very surprised that there isn't a WP7 Clone ROM out already. I would have thought that if this developer was spending so much time on these various apps... that they would naturally compile them into a ROM.
I would say that OMGB or Salvagemod would be an excellent base for AOSP... or a deodexed stock ROM with minimal bloat or SalvageSense for Sense.
You would simply replace these WP7 apps with those that already reside in the base image and theme to match.
I'm sure I'd play around with it, but could never use it for a daily.
All in all... If I wanted a WP7 look; I'd sell my Evo & buy a WP7 phone.

Hell yeah, I'd try it. I'm playing with WP7Lock and Launcher7 right now.
To other poster, the devs haven't created a rom, because they wanna create something that'll work on all devices, is my understanding.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Alright cool. I'm starting work on it now. It should be finished by Sunday I would say going by how much free time I will have. I have Ubuntu now and I am figuring out how to work the kitchen. The ROM will originally be just stock rooted Sense (I have yet to determine which dev team's ROM to go with) with the launcher baked in, then the second release, if I have enough interest, will be an AOSP ROM with everything stripped except apps people request and will have Launcher7 as the home screen and the WP7 lock screen. Keep up the good feedback guys.
So, you're thinking first release would be stock sense with launcher7 baked in as the default/only launcher?
I gotta say, I don't quite see the point. I mean, how is that different than than simply setting launcher7 as default launcher? Not trying to come across rude, or anything. Just saying I don't quite see the point, or maybe I misunderstood your intention.?
Very interested in seeing this, though. And yeah, using aosp for this project is a great idea IMHO

Chameleon Launcher

So this new launcher came out but is only available for the tablet on Google Play Store. It is currently in the beta stage, with a VIP list and pre orders. Will it ever become available to the skyrocket or any smartphone? Is it going to have a lite version. I think it looks sweet, i just don't want to get my hopes up
(Im pretty sure this is a Q&E, but its related to themes and apps...If it needs to be moved, move it please and thank you)

I guess that makes sense. This community is great with modding stuff so i figured i would ask, no harm done with that right? I searched and some other people with other phones were asking similar questions.
Well I have took an app from the market and with the devs permission made changes so it would work correctly on our phone. And I uploaded it with his permission but its gonna be impossible to find someone here to make it compatible to our phone without getting the devs permission first. Their is a strict rule here about messing around with others work without permission.... but there was no harm in asking. And if you get the devs permission someone here may take it and make it compatible but if its a paid app on the market the devs not gonna give that permission....

Which is why i was wondering if there was going to be a lite version. I Emailed the dev(s) so ill report back when they return my email. I hope it becomes available, seems like the next best launcher. TW, apex and all those launchers start to get old after a while.
I don't see how it would be useful for smaller displays. The whole point of the app is to show a bunch of different information on one screen, but only so much can be done on a 4 inch screen. The suitable alternative is to just use widgets on your homescreen as you probably do now.
I'm gonna go ahead and say it isn't just for tablets. This user posted screenshots here in the 'post your homescreen here' topic in themes/apps for our phone.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29759858&postcount=770
Looks interesting. I own adw ex, nova prime and apex pro. Going to stick with apex most likely as I've spent enough on launchers. It would have to be really amazing to justify spending ten bucks on it (that's the pre-order price)
i tried chameleon. its good launcher even if in beta.
but i think its so big and heavy for a launcher.(20 mb) maybe my tab doesnt enough to run chameleon.(p1000-galaxy tab-)
Hiya! I was asked to post here after someone saw me running it... If you simply load the APK, it works, but to get the most out of it, changing your DPI to the next level will easily let it fit decently with smallish on our screens.

Exactly. That's why I said in my previous post to get the devs permission. Most will give you permission on free apps but some will not. Paid apps you can forget about it. Also if the dev gives permission and you was to fix it add to it etc etc and upload it don't forget to give the dev credit for his too cause that's only right....

Works perfectly for me. You just need to pic a photo sized correctly to work.
I can never get over people who complain about a < $2 app they would use every day on their $500 tablet. No offense but don't be so damned cheap.
I don't think it's about cheapness. Some people weigh value against cost. I'm one; it's not that I'm cheap, I spent thousands of dollars in electronics each year to satisfy my tech cravings.
However, when it comes to value then it is a different thing. I'm not into pretty widgets, themes, icon packs and live wall papers. These are worthless and server no purpose other than aesthetics, IMO. Even those low-weigh-on-CPU worthless stuff and even if my tablet has butt loads of spare CPU juice and super extra RAM; even if the software in question only puts a 0.1% load on my tablet I don't want it, even if it's free.
I've had this philosophy even back in my iPhone days, I've had most them and things like WinterBoard, low weight, pretty on the eyes, and free... I don't want it.
To each, his own. You have no right on telling people what to spend their money on. The same way we cannot critisize you for already having spent your money on this live wallpaper.
Thanks for sharing, I actually like to see those pretty things; just not on my devices.
