By doing proper research and reading

By knowing at least the basics and simple stuff. I'm not a root user but one I've seen on this forum a couple times is people having bricked their phones trying to install something made for the regular S2 on the Skyrocket. So as long as you're not an idiot you should be okay.

Read the stickies, all the stickies, and follow the instructions in the OP to the letter.

As every one said above... Read the instructions... AND... Make you are flashing a compatible rom.

Kind of sad that that needs to be said...I777 and I727 are NOT cross-compatible.

Exactly research is the key if you really dont know what the hell your doing then dont do it as for help if need be youtube! google other device that are similar and see how things are flashed **this doesnt mean to flash those files but simply to understand how its done if your a visual person** XDA is all about being self sufficient however there are people who were or still are NOOBS lol but at least have been in your boat to understand if you need a helping hand and are willing to help you

The 100% sure way not to brick is do not mess with things you know little to nothing about. No flash = no brick. If your gonna flash anything read read and read some more. Google knows all and is your best friend. Search and research. I'm a computer programmer and networker and still didn't feel comfortable flashing my phone until I did extensive research. About a week of reading and compiling as much info as possible....

These suggestions are great and all but the best piece of advice that anyone can give you is:
Make sure you do it while you are still awake, if you are sleepy when you try flashing new stuff, odds are you are going to mess it up royally.
Do it while you have lots of energy in order to make the right *educated* decisions and to be able to pay attention in great detail to what you are doing.

[Q] samsung galaxy s4g brick help

alright so i had one of my friends who has the vibrant on tmobile help me root and install darkys rom on my phone. since i had no idea i just let him do it since he has it on his phone. we rooted it use the onesuperclick. we took off the bloatwear and then put the rom on the sd card loaded it up in recovery and did the recovery then installed it. my phone hard bricked. nothing comes up or no download mood nothing even when pluged. but no worries i just send it to tmobile. but i wanna know if anyone can give me a guide to do this step by step so it dosent happen again when i get my phone back. thanks
The vibrant roms do not work on the 4g....until they are ported to 4g with the proper mods made to the rom they will cause a brick everytime
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
1. no matter how much it looks like it, the s4g isn't a vibrant. there are as of yet no custom roms available.
2. people like you and your friend are the reason carriers and manufacturers are going towards more restrictive ability to root and signed/encrypted bootloaders
theirs no roms for the 4g?

thanks in advance
Probably hardbricked. Can you get into download mode?
Edit: scratch that question about download mode....she's hosed. For 50 bucks there is a guy who can fix it. You have to send him your phone though

Jeezus H.Christ nrm!!! I'm pretty sure this is the best one yet, honestly lmao'd!
Bricking a phone really sucks, and the SR appears to be particularly unforgiving.
Jtag may be the only answer right now (other solutions like qpst haven't panned out, yet)...or warranty if possible, of course...just saying...

The jig wont work, I promise you. Flashing a rom for another device is the best possible way to hard brick. Sorry to be so pessimistic but this is the truth.
Jtag service just recently became available for the sr--for a reasonable fee they can restore it. Google it!

That sucks dude, but I really wanna know how in the hell that could even happen? Why are you looking in the infuse 4g forum for Roms if you have a skyrocket? But, if jig doesn't work you have to send it to that fella and he will fix it for 40 or 50 bucks. Good luck and don't flash things that aren't for the skyrocket
My guess its he upgraded from an infuse and restored an old nandroid
i'm dying to know how out actually happed... Good luck to you though

First time I knew of rooting didn't want to do it. Was scared of lose my phone but, after do it I saw I was in a very big mistake before.
Now I flash very often and recomend it.
Well that's my case but, is there anyone who didn't enjoy rooting benefits? Just asking...

Its alright about the English ( most people who speak it fluently don't know how to speak, thought you were on of those, my mistake)

What's up with miui roms? Yes they look slick but I flashed my s2 with one and my wife's wildfire s and both never had the option of changing the language from Chinese :s. That's my only regret from rooting flashing the wrong from or wrong kernal and soft bricking my phone thank god it wasn't a hard brick. But once you get the hang of root deffo no turning back. Agreed?

Should I even consider Rom Manager?

I have heard from sources that rom manager is a quick and easy way to get CWM and Roms onto my phone, but then I hear from other people that it will brick the skyrocket. Can someone put this into perspective for me?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
This it's a question you could've answered yourself by spending five minutes with the search button. ROM Manager is good for fixing permissions and making paperweights on the Skyrocket, and that's about it.

New idea: use Kies instead of CM10.1?

I've been toying with the idea of just downloading the Samsung update of 4.1.2 instead of CM10.1. My Captivate is running CM10.1, but only because 2.3.5 was the latest version of Android available. Should I go with 4.1.2 just to see if I like it first? I really like CyanogenMod, but will I be just as happy with 4.1.2? Will I still be able to use Kies even though my phone is already rooted and CWM is installed? All thoughts are appreciated!

Yeah, I read the stickies a few times but was unclear. Thanks for the tip. Guess I use continue to read the, over and over and figure it out on my own. I'll quit asking questions since I seem to not be getting and helpful answers. This is the same thing I did with my Captivate and I finally figured it out. Thanks anyway.

I've read both your posts in Q&A and sounds like your basically asking the the same thing like everyone has suggested you really need to read lots more before you wind up with expensive paper weight. I know because I've done it before when I started tinkering I thought I had read enough when in actually I read just enough to get in trouble and had no way out. So again when the more experience ones say read you might want to continue reading. Just my two cents
