After flashing CM7, I've been having trouble with my data network. I have bars, I can make calls and text, but I've never seen a 2g or 3g symbol in my status bar. Sending or receiving MMS is impossible. I've seen snippets of similar problems in some other threads, where they couldn't use their data plan at all. Baseband switcher doesn't work when I select any of the USA Tmobile basebands.
Has anyone had similar problems? Maybe even a solution?
Other info:
Yes, data over mobile network is enabled.
I flashed UK Froyo Retail 2.2.2, and applied CM7. I'll flash Nordic later and reply.
I do not have a data plan, but an unlimited texting plan, so I should be able to send MMS.
Update:
---------------------------------------------------------
Flashed Nordic SBF, and data initially worked fine when I applied CM7. However, after some reboots, restoring some apps, I don't know when exactly but I lost it. Just bars again.
Tried applying some USA T-mobile basebands, and none of them gave me data.
Start all over dude.

That's what I'm thinking.
Back when CM7 was in beta, I still had this issue, with Nordic as my sbf. I flashed back to stock and whoop-dee-do, I had 3G.
When Quarx released his RC, I thought that my problem would have been fixed already. In my paranoia, I thought that if I had a UK Tmobile sbf, I wouldn't have any problems. I still do though. I'll flash Nordic when I can, and come back with the results.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem before.
You need to use the basebandswitcher tool to select a US T-Mobile baseband before you can use the 3G network.
I flashed Nordic, the one in the FAQ. I got data now.
Thanks.
I'mbhaving this same issue, and curious to the problem as well, 3G seems alot slower, its not because I dontbhave service I'm running full bars and network is really slow

I lost data now for some reason. None of the usa basebands work.
Any suggestions?

For me, with RC1, often when leaving a WiFi area, data will simply not work unless I completely reboot the phone. *sometimes* switching between 2g and 3g will get it working again.

I live in Austin and I started having that problem starting tuesday Afternoon.l My phone running MIUI 1.6.24 was working fine till then, and then started dropping signal, switching to edge and entering "emergency calls only mode a lot".
I used baseband switcher to switch to a different baseband, but the only way I could access data was with the original MIUI 1.6.24 ROM and even then, only edge.
I tried reflashing the T-MO US SBF as well as the nordic SBF, and I don't get any data any more.
I am going to try to flash CM 7 to see if I still have the problem.
What is the US base kernal for T-Mobile network?

Do you use titanium backup? Maybe it's a setting or app causing this.
I had data when I applied cm7 at first. But I lost it when I began personalizing it.

Hey guys I just recently got a samsung t959v as a replacement to my nexus one that got its screen cracked. So far I am loving the phone and had no problems with it. I recently updated it using the Kies mini software and updated the phone to 2.3.6. After updating, I rooted the phone using superoneclick and everything worked out perfectly. The only thing I have noticed is that my signal bars are now always empty. I have the 4G symbol on green, however the bars next to it have not turned green at all. I am signed in to google talk so I know it is not the grey/green signal issue. Before updating and rooting I always had FULL 4G signal here throughout my apartment and throughout the city. Anyone know what the problem could be? Everything seems to be working fine using the network however it is just a little annoying not knowing how strong the signal really is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and I also installed setcpu and changed some of the settings, not sure if that has anything to do with this issue....
4g and"the bars" are two different signals. Cell it's used for calls when not connect to wifi and for SMS. 4g is your data: internet,g talk, market, and most everything else. if your not experiencing issues I wouldn't worry about it. Set ovum doesn't have anything to do with this but here we have found tegrak paid to be more stable for oc/uv.

Don't worry.
Flash AOSP style. It will remind you of the N1!
Leave your battery out for 10min and try again

hello
I set up my unlocked i727r to work with mobilicity, however, it has very crappy reception. I tried the t989 KID modem, the vk1, the telus kj3, and the blaze modems. They all give me weak signal (anywhere between 0-2 bars with mobilicity), whereas my galaxy nexus has 3 bars. It tends to lose connection when I go inside a supermarket, and sometimes disconnects from the network and doesnt want to reconnect. I have the gingerbread, and I want to keep it. So, is anyone using this phone with mobilicity and getting a good signal strength? Do you mind sharing with me what you did?
thanks
Bars aren't really a good indication of signal.

yea what i meant to say is that its very unstable, it would take a long time to dial a number, it has crappy reception, etc. Right now my phone is connected to the mobilicity network, but under mobile network state in status, it says disconnected. What could be the cause of that?

Disconneted because data is disabled or you are connected to Wifi. Disable wifi and connect to network data, check again

I'm more or less in the same boat... in particular upload rate is horrible ~40kbps.
OP: any progress in your experience with mobilicity and in your search of a suitable modem?
It's the network not the phone. I was with them & got the same results with a Lumia 710 & the 727r. I tried all the different modems & the best is the Blaze 4G IMO.
Did you guys also have to change your kernels to get it to work?
I have tried the usual 4 radios combined with SKYICS and also with the stock OS (latest Rogers version) without much success.
I get some signal but as soon as I try to call the phone would hang on me (it would dial out incidentally).
Thanks a lot
Nope didn't have to do anything other then flash the recovery, to allow me to flash the radios from zip files. The Rom and kernel were stock GB or ICS. I did go into *#2263# and set WCDMA option from all to 1700, & the mobile network option from automatic to manual selecting Mobilicity or its network ID #.
Actually a couple of weeks ago I flashed the t989 juggernaut rom, with the faux kernel and vkl1 radio and its somewhat better.

This is perfectly fine. If your phone is connected to the WiFi Router but cannot access the internet you shall see the [ WiFi Signal + ! ] and you phone will automatically use your Mobile Internet connection [ LTE, H+, H, 3G, E ]. As soon as your phone can reach the internet over WiFi, it will automatically disable Mobile Data and switch to WiFi. The ! mark will disappear. It ensures that the phone is always connected to the internet (if available).
This feature was not in there in KitKat and people would miss mails and notifications when their WiFi router's internet connection failed.

my pleasure. nothing wrong in asking what you don't know
This is really dumb design decision. The average person is going to think something is broken on their phone every time they have mobile data/wifi disabled.
Dumb design, can't agree no more. I am wondering if my cellphone has issues when I saw the exclamation mark on both wifi and mobile network. Is there any way to disable the mark?
! mark = No Internet Access
As said earlier by others in this post, Exclamatory mark plus cell signal means u r not connected to internet via cellular data.
Exclamatory mark plus wifi signal means u r not connected to internet via wifi.
One good thing i noticed is when i m on wifi and while i m signing in to provider's page, cellular data is still on and i am getting whats app and mails as well till wifi is connected to internet. Its kind of useful.
Odd.... I see "!" go away as soon as wifi connects to my router. But if I turn off wifi, my cell "!" is still there and doesn't connect to data. Have a 3 bar signal (can make calls, "PTEL" shows up on cell icon, my provider), but no data (I assume the "!" goes out when data connects). I tried opening a web page but no data. This just started since I flashed L. Flashed "L" radio, no help. Suggestions?
This is really strange. I have a perfectly working WiFi at home, and I regularly download app updates and go through various internet things on my Nexus 5 on Lollipop. However, through out the day, I see the "!" mark on my WiFi icon. It absolutely does not go.
After updating to Lollipop, I had to switch my mobile data off, (Only at home) because of this stupid feature. I had a few app updates (close to 300- 400 MB) and because of the "!" sign, it went on directly to my cellular network and started to download from there. Even though the WiFi was working perfectly fine without any issues on my tab and pc and also on the phone.
Secondly, the cellular network also shows the "!" icon. I stopped the wifi and tried surfing using the cellular network and I was able to surf the net, and through out the whole test, the "!" was still there.
Thirdly, The strangest part is that this happens across the city. I stay in Bangalore, India and across the city I have noticed the "!" mark in my cellular network.
This has also made an impact on my battery.
Any help would be appreciated.
Yep, seems like whatever android is doing to decide if it has an internet connection, it does not work well.
I'm acessing the forum and posting this from my OTA-upgraded Lollipop Nexus 5 while my wifi icon on the status bar has a "!", and I'm not using cellular data.
I suppose if I didn't have my cellular data disabled, it would be trying to use it, as it thinks I can't get to the internet via wifi.
I hate when we have to put up with bugs and bloat introduced by software trying to do nothing more useful than to be "smart" and nicer to lusers. I miss my Symbian.
Windows does something just like this, and randomly shows a "limited connection" warning on the system tray. Some lusers IM me to complain:
- "my" internet is not working...
- yeah? How did you get to this conclusion? Because "mine" is.
- because windows says my internet connection is limited
- hmm... have you actually TRIED to use the connection?
- uhh... ok.
Exclamation point on mobile signal strength icon
Hi,
I tested my Nexus 5 after reading this forum and when I enabled my Wi-Fi, the exclamation point disappeared from the mobile signal strength. During a 2nd test, the Wi-Fi did not activate properly right away and I had an exclamation point on both the mobile icon and the Wi-Fi icon. If I enabled my data plan while the Wi-Fi was disabled, the exclamation point turned off on the mobile icon.

Does that actually change the signal status icon (ie 3G, H+, LTE, etc)? Or is it just the signal strength icons?
I use the xposed module called signal icons aosp. The writeup says its for the Verizon moto x, but I have a tmo dev ed, and it works fine.
