I have a rooted US, 16gb WiFi only model that I need to return to stock and return because I decided to go with the deep gray 32gb.
I'd like to try and get it right, but I never noted these details before I started hacking and, in haste, I forgot to do an original backup.
I've been through the forums and downloaded what was listed as the stock recovery & kernel for that device, though there were 2 different options.
However, upon receiving my new 32gb 10.1, I checked the specs and noticed that this is the OTHER of the 2 builds.
Now I'm wondering if I got it right in the first place. I don't know why/what causes a manufacturer to change one build from the next, whether having more internal memory qualifies.
So, I'm turning to YOU for help!
Please, could someone please tell me the correct build & kernel for the US (white) 16gb 8013?
Thank You in Advance!

You have to use Odin to get it back to stock. There is a firmware in the development thread for it. You'll be able to do your exchange then.

Hey Nexus S forum,
I've got this nexus S from my friend. I've been a hero user, but I ended up buying it for like 50 bucks (steal right?). He decided he wanted a different phone, anyways nor the time or place.
With my HTC Hero (Sprint) I know if I want to wipe my phone of music/video/pictures I can just format my SD Card.
My question for you guys/gals is how would I go about doing that with the Nexus S. I know since it has built in Storage there really isn't a way i could "format" if I am correct. Will i have to essentially just select and delete all the folders?
If there is an easier way, like maybe should i go factory reset, or maybe some other route that'd be great.
Anyways just thought I'd come here before messing with it.
p.s.
Is flashing and everything going to be similar to how i would with the Hero, or is there anything maybe slightly different that I need to do?
Alright Thanks everyone for your input.
Delete the whole sdcard by either going to storage tab in settings menu or format sdcard via cwm recovery.
Thank You
Thank you much for the info. I'll try that tonight and install a ROM i've been wanting to try for awhile [MIUI]
Thanks again for the heads up!

Flashing roms and kernels are just like any other android phone with an unlocked bootloader. Enjoy! Just make sure the rom you download is compatible with your model. There are three major versions of the nexus s. The GT-i9020, GT-i9023, and SPH-D720. When flashing a stock rom it is important to get the rom for your exact model. Example GT-i9020a for AT&T's model, or GT-i9020t for T-Mobile etc.

Hello! I restored my Tab 7 plus using ODIN and the P6210XXKL2_OXEKK1_16G firmware found in the development forum thread, but now Kies does not see any firmware version? Is there any way I can fix this, so I can push updates via Kies? Thanks in advance!
Under "About device" it shows Build Number HTJ85B P6210XXKL2 and Kernel version 2.6.36-P6210XXKL2-CL583761 [email protected] #3
Also, I updated to the latest version of KIES, but still nothing.
# days ago updated the firmware and "killed most of my apps.
Somehow the update while connected to my PC, when finished, most of my apps stopped working ( force to close). Had to reinstall them all.
I have the same problem except for im on kk3... Not sure if thats the most recent but it was the only stock firmware i could find with a working download link.

Yeah, this is a serious bummer. Anyone know what the most recent firmware version is?
Anything new on this matter? I'm in this position also now...
Edit found the password to the US retail one.
I believe the "LA3" is the most recent update

Yes I realize that now. I managed to download the US retail firmware package in the dev section finally. Took me a little while to find the password for it to decrypt it though... But all is good now!
Hi, SGT newbie here...
I believe I may be in the same boat here, I bought a "manufacturer refurbished" GT-P6210 off ebay and later discovered from Samsung Support that they don't do refurbishments.
The device works fine but the main reason I got it was to run it with ICS, and of course the firmware version is not recognised in Kies.
For what it's worth...
Kernel version: 2.6.36-P6210UEKJC-CL567728
Build number: HTJ85B.UEKJC P6210UEKJC
May I ask the assembled masses here what the best way forward here is? My guess would be to learn how to root the device and then put an ICS update on that is released from this very forum?
Cheers!
David
no ICS yet, hang tight should be ny the ned of the month/start of April.. we are all hoping.
yeah, best bet would be get Odin (for windows) or Heimdall ( Linux & Mac )
find latest firmware either in development thread or sammobile.com, follow instructions and flash.
Aha... I tried the Samsung US Support live chat thing, I assumed they wouldn't mind a poor Englishman in London talking to them.
It turns out that you don't need Kies at all, they will push the updates out "OTA" if one is connected to a network via Wifi.
Do you know it took me nearly two minutes to work out that OTAS mean Over The Air ?
They said "in a month or two" for the GT-P6210 though, bummer.
I assume that the ROMs and stuff in these hallowed forums are kind of like what you do when you buy an off-the-shelf PC, ie: you spend the next day stripping all the crap out and then making a nice clean and optimised ghost image for future deployment? Or am I barking not only up the wrong tree but am in the wrong forest too?

Yes ota means over the air.
Yep, most rom developers strip the bloatware from the firmware and put in all kinds of optimization.

Hi Zadeis, Please I would like to get the link for the US Retail Version because this is affecting me as well. I bought my Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 (Wifi Only) off Amazon in a very good working condition, however I tampered with it and had to re-install it with the P6210XXKL2_OXEKK1_16G version. Now Kies doesn't show my firmware version and I can't perform any update.
I would like to get the link for the US Retails version as well as the password you that mentioned.
I also want to backup my tab before re-installing it. will it backup all my current configurations, apps, settings, files and the like?
Please reply ASAP.
Thanks.

This one is not a US firmware so that might be the problem. This did confuse me before.
Hi to all!
I'm a new member here and I'm hoping that you guys could help me with my simple question. I'm very new with Android OS since I've been an iPhone user for the past 2 years. So here it is:
I just bought an UNLOCKED AT&T SGH-i727 from a store here in SAIPAN, MP and I'm planning to update my Gingerbread 2.3.5 to 2.3.6. Will it lose the UNLOCK if I do it? I believe the phone is NOT ROOTED and it was just unlock using an UNLOCK CODE. Also, when I tried to check for SOFTWARE UPDATE it says like my SGH-i727's firmware is up to date which is GINGERBREAD 2.3.5 but I believe there is 2.3.6 already as I saw on my friend's i727. Any idea?
PLEASE HELP. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
You won't lose unlock.
Yes there is an update. You have to be sure you have stock 3e recovery and all bloat intact and nothing frozen. You may not see the update right away. It might take a while.
Why you would want a stock update, I don't know.

Thanks for your response.
And that's the problem I don't have anything that you've said, idk where go get them. Could you help me with that?

Ok...do you know the difference between a custom recovery like cwm and the stock 3e recovery?
If you search the general section I have a stock tar hosted there. Sammobile stock tar should find it

ICS giving "Invalid CG Version" - is this different than the 2.3.6 problems?
I've searched forums and keep finding this issue for people on Android 2.3.6
Super short version:
Bought Motorola Atrix 2 Used. It was stock everything when I got it; guy only had it a couple months. I did not root it or install CWM. Kept it stock. Updated to 2.3.6 without any problems. Ran that for awhile. Eventually switched to a new phone (Galaxy Nexus) but kept Atrix 2 around as a backup. To be safe I did a Factory Reset on 2.3.6. Phone wiped, SD card Wiped, everything booted up as normal.
Now: ICS comes out couple months ago. I updated Atrix 2 by OTA to ICS 4.0.4. Thought cool; don't really need this anymore so let's sell it. Well after testing everything to make sure I didn't sell a lemon I decided to do a Factory reset just to make sure it was clean when I sold it.
After the phone shuts down it reboots with the black screen:
"AP Fastboot Mode (S) (Boot Failure)"
and then at the bottom
"Invalid CG Version (CG: Recovery)
I see all the threads for this problem with phones in 2.3.6 but I also see the threads saying once you're on ICS you can't FXZ back to 2.3.5 so I'm hesitant to follow those threads.
Anyone got clarity for me? If at all possible I would like to get this phone to a point where Factory Resets work AND future OTA Updates will work so I don't screw over the next owner.
Thanks - SF

I've been on 4.0.4 since I bought the phone, and I haven't received any of the OTA updates. I tried all the usual tricks (clearing google frameworks, etc) and it still won't pop up. I search high and low here for an answer and didn't get anything. Suggestions?
Are you using on Verizon network?

Yes I'm on Verizon, no I haven't tried it with kies (guide?)
I am assuming you tried manually cheocking for a update under settings
I use to have this problem being on the Verizon stock Rom. I was on 4.1.1 K3 and I could not receive any OTA's either. Cleared google frameworks, kept checking for the software updates in settings, ect ect. I tried it ALL, even tried to do it in Samsung Kies. It use to always tell me the KIES was not able to update my phone or something like that. I finally rooted my phone and I was on custom Roms for a long while. Went back to stock K3 with the Tar file. All of a sudden I was able to receive the MB1 OTA and the latest MF1 OTA. I'm thinking maybe the software that shipped on my phone was glitchy? I use to think it was my actual phone and something was wrong with it but I guess it's not because now when ever I flash that TAR file to get back to Verizon Stock K3 build I am always able to receive the MB1 OTA and on and on to whatever OTA that'll bring me to the latest Verizon Stock Rom. That's what fixed it for me. I don't know if it'll work for you, it just something that worked for me.
I would honestly say, that if you're ok with rooting to just root now and install BoneStock. Arguably the most stable ROM around.

Agreed, BoneStock is badass and Andy does amazing work.
Rooting couldn't be easier with beans' casual root method, takes like 30 seconds!
