[Q] Which JB rom is the most stable and what radio should I use? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hey,
my friend just bought a skyrocket and I will be rooting it for him.
Is there a fairly "stable" CM10 rom or JB rom?
and which radio am I supposed to use with it?
thank you

Save you the trouble because this will be locked.
In the SR community our Mods don't allow these sorts of questions since it leads to trolls and flaming.
In other words, I'm not allowed to answer your question but can advise you in trying different ROMs and seeing what your friend would like.

Superlite CM10+Superlite Gapps was really good when I tried it. I'm actually going to install it again since I'm still tinkering with mine.
Only downside I noticed, and it's probably some easy fix I missed, in GL benchmark on egypt 2.1, ICS CM9 was 52fps, JB CM10 SL was 45fps.

Rom Suggestions? Really Confused

Okay guys, im relatively new here but I'de like to think I know enough to get around and rom properly
I'm currently on a RAT Locked Radio (UCLF6) and an ATT ROM ICS (Sky ICS 4.2F) and am looking to switch to an AOSP or AOKP ROM that is very clean, simple, and as stock AOSP as possible.
The main issue I am having with my ROM is that the RAT is locked and I really needed the option of turning off LTE because I am in a test area and I keep getting flaky reception due to this. So i know to flash a RAT Unlocked Rodgers radio, heres the issue:
I cant seem to find any info out there on which ROMs that are purely AOSP and will support the radio that I seek. I also cant seem to figure out which ones people are using the most.
So Android community, what radio / Rom combo do you guys think would work for me? I'm honestly confused and any input is greatly appreciated.
Not sure about the radio side of things, but I love the CyanogenMod9 Rom. Very slick. Currently in nightly. I would only use a ROM from the developers section. (i.e.- don't just download a from zip from some random site....)
Best thing is to follow one of the noob guides to a T.
Lots of bricked Skyrockets out there...
I run CM9 nightly builds with CWM as my recovery. Works great!
Happy Modding!

If you want pure ICS. Go with cm9. You can use any rogers radio along with it as long as its ICS based. So the radio for their official release should work perfect.

Didn't i hear that people would flash Rogers radio and it would allow the ability to toggle lte
I also think there is data code you can type in dialer that takes you to engineer mouse or something like that don't ask me that is all i know
oh and cm9 ftw paired with instigators kernel

anyone have a link to the CM9 thread? I cant seem to find it for some reason -_-
This thread is your friend: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785999
Which then leads to these:
Official CM9 For Skyrocket: http://get.cm/?device=skyrocket
or
Cyanogenmod 9 with UCLF6 libs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762998
Myself, I would like to try the official CM9 RC2. Just wondering what Gapps are and if it's needed or beneficial on the official CM9.
I just switched over to CM9 RC2
This rom is smooth but the battery life is terrible and the LTE toggle isnt working properly.
Can i flash Rogers radio over this? anyone have any tips or suggestions? will the radio affect the ROM?

Try the nightly cm9 and the custom kernal for it. Cymbaline I believe. Or embryo used both and haven't had any issues.
Sent from the dark side of CM9 on my skyrocket.
I prefer Instigators with the Bad ass Script.... runs awesome on RC2 or the current nightly...

[Q] Roms and flashing

So I have a few questions. I guess you can call me a novice at this. I have flashed Roms before just put like 4 on my phone and nandroid back up each one to test later.
My question is what does flashing Radios and Kernels do?
I flashed a radio on my inspire once and messed it up.
Also I need some help on flashing CM10 or jellybean ROMS. I wanna try jelly bean and cm 10 out but know nothing about gapps and I don't want a ROM I will have to update weekly. Will I have to with those roms?

You only flash daily to stay on the bleeding edge. Besides, a few days ago CM added an updater which you can tell it how often you want to be notified about an "update". (Weekly, monthly, only stable builds, etc..)
Gapps = Google's proprietary apps like Play Store, Gmail, etc. Can't legally put those into CM due to legal reasons. If you Google "jb gapps", I'm positive you will find what you are looking for .

And I know I've seen you on some Rom forums that you've developed is that right? I can't remember which ones

We can't really give our opinions on the rom because different people will always think different things, as far as my say goes it is an impressive piece of work.

[Q] (Q) Most Stable Non-Touchwiz ICS ROM?

Hi there,
I just got the Rogers S2 LTE for my wife. I rooted the phone and am looking to install a Non-Touchwiz ICS ROM for her. There seems to be many great ROMS for this phone but it is a little overwhelming, I've been using the HTC Desire Z and Inspire and this is my first taste of Samsung Smartphones. I'm currently using Ice Cold Sandwich AOKP for my Inspire and really like it. Can anyone recommend something similar for the Skyrocket? I've tried the stable version of CM9 and like it but want to know what else is available. I would like something that is stable as she will be using it as a daily ROM. Any recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks.
Please read through the threads for the various ROMs and make your own decisions. "Best" threads like this one are not allowed because they lead to flaming and migraines.
This ^ and if uve been on xda for awhile u should know that questions should be posted in the Q&A section and not in the general section

My bad, I was debating which section to post it in. I will try all the different ROMS to see which works best for her. Thanks for replying.
As far as non-tw goes, aokp (I believe milestone 6 was the latest ics build) or cm9 are probably your best bets.
Not sure if you've seen it but there is a list of ICS ROMs in vincom's sticky here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785999
I would go through them for options and see what appeals if ICS is important for you. I had good results with Magic Whiz R2, which you might like as a tweaked version of CM9. You're not going to see a lot of dev effort around ICS based ROMs, most have switched focus to JB and with the new CM10 nightlies for the skyrocket even more so (you might consider that too if you like CM9).

SGS3 Vanilla JB Rom?

Hello, so far I stuck with stock roms... first ICS now leaked JB... I really would like a plain vanilla jb rom still retaining the great features of the SGS3... can anybody point me in the right direction?

No such thing, as vanilla android is unaltered, i.e. the nexus devices.
I would say that cyanogen mod is probably as close as you'll get. Aokp is close too but has much more customization options.

There isn't one. Use cm10 and don't use the customization. Also you will not have the s3 features like motion controls, camera, etc.
You're best bet is to try a couple out and find what works for you.

I'm gonna work on building vanilla JB rom as soon as the semester ends......don't have enough time till then :\ Should be convenient timing as a lot of the leg-work is already complete
I've already started working on one, but its not looking very promising so far. Its really really difficult getting the build to cooperate, and then once I finally do get it to cooperate thenaybe it won't take too long to get some of the initial kinks ironed out so people can start testing. But at least if I cannot get the bugs worked out enough to post it for people to use there is someone else who will begin working on it shortly. So hopefully we will have a pure AOSP ROM soon, one way or another.

Omega ROM
Give Omega ROM a try, there is an optional to remove all SGS3 default bloatware that comes with it when you flash the ROM.
I am using it because this ROM is having all other SGS3 features like the motion control, stock camera, etc.:good:

Hello thanks for reply
Can you send me the link to well stable CM7 or ICS rom?also are they different(I'm really dumb in this)? And method to flash.
I'm sorry man but your basically asking me to give you every piece of information necessary in order to flash a custom ROM. All of this information can be found in the stickies of the various G2X forums. It is apparent that you are not quite knowledgeable enough yet for me to suggest that you flash your phone. I suggest reading the stickies and learning everything there is to know about flashing this phone. All of the information is available to you here on this forum. I will however recommend CM7 as it is a stable and newb friendly ROM to start with. I would download the latest weekly at get.cm . As far as flashing methods are concerned you need to use Clockwork Mod Recovery. There are many threads about it and a bundle of information dedicated to CWM Recovery in the stickies of this forum. Please read them.

there's no such thing as stable. You want stable? Stick to 2.3.4.
CM7 is 2.3.4 (or 2.3.3, depending) GB and is absolutely stable. No reason or advantage to staying stock with this device unless blue tooth phone audio is a necessity.
Latest CM7 is 2.3.7... I'm using the March 2013 version.

well gee. Why would i want bluetooth phone audio? Maybe so i can use my bluetooth headset for calls and not just music?
if it's missing something or something is broken.. IT IS NOT STABLE.

CM7 is absolutely stable as Pain said, and he is right. If you think CM7 is not stable go look up stable in the dictionary. CM7 is not perfect, but very much stable. I also believe its only a baseband issue where CM7 has the Bluetooth issue (old baseband works fine, new one doesn't).

Yeah, Idk why I said that lol, I was thinking about the baseband differences from 2.3.3 and 2.3.4, not the android versions =x
and Eve, it all depends on what you recognize as stable. I don't use nor do I wish to use blue tooth functions for calling purposes. So for me not having that option does not subtract from the "stability" of CM7. I am still able to use bluetooth for media purposes which I rarely do anyway. CM7 offers plenty of customization and options for your phone that you cannot possibly have if it is stock. For a first time user coming from stock software, CM7 will make you feel like you have a brand new device!
