can anyone recommend me a good cloud service?
I'm trying backup my family videos up on the cloud so I don't loose them.
I'm looking for something other then youtube.
somewhere I can keep my files intact original and also can download it off the net without a fuss.
I got a free Box.com account but the problem is upload file size limit is 100mb.
all my videos are bigger then 100mb...
if you guys can recommend a good, free, cloud service with decent storage space and appropriate upload file size limit I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.
I would recommend Dropbox.

Seconded. I have my phone setup with Dropbox, Dropspace, SMS Backup & Restore and App Backup & Restore to keep my phone constantly and automatically backed up to my Dropbox
+1 for dropbox. you could also get a pogoplug or use their cloud service. you could also try sugarsync
Hey guys
Ever since I did a clean flash of CM10.1, I've had problems with Dropbox and it's photo syncing feature.
After starting up the phone after doing the clean flash, I noticed that all of my pictures had been deleted for some reason...so I hooked the phone up to my computer, and transferred the pictures directly from my Dropbox Camera Uploads folder to my phone...I then turned on Camera Upload in the Dropbox app and it notified me that it was uploading 273 of my pictures, even though all of my pictures were already synced to Dropbox and I had just copied them over to the phone.
They removed the option to clear current uploads so I can't stop it without turning it off...
I really like this feature but turning it on will force it to upload a ridiculous amount of pictures that ARE ALREADY IN MY CAMERA UPLOADS FOLDER...
Any ideas? I emailed Dropbox, got a response, sent them more detailed information and they've basically ignored me ever since...Thanks a lot Dropbox!
Thanks,
Elliott
Bump...guess I'm the first person with this problem?
Sent from my Galaxy S3
This has been driving me crazy for the last couple hours. I transferred some files from my camera using the play memories app like i normally do with nfc. These pics normally get uploaded automatically to google plus with autobackup, but for some reason the app thinks the photos have already been backed up (btw i hate the new integrated all pics view I liked being able to tell where my pics were without having to got to a folderstab).
I have tried sharing the pics with the google plus app and the photos app but both want me to make a post that is shared. I don't want to share the photos, I just want to upload them to a private album I already have set up. I also tried uploading individually with the stock gallery app to "photos" it asks to confirm my account I click the upload button and nothing happens.
Please tell me I'm missing something and the geniuses at google who made an awesome photo sharing/manipulating/editing app didn't forget the part where some people like putting their folders into albums and sometimes you want to back up some of your pics and not all of them.
I really wish you could select a few pitcures and hit a backup button that put those pics into a backup queue that follows rules you have established ie, upload only on wifi, while plugged in, at this size.
Please help

Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
All - I have developed my first Android application, which is still in its infancy but fully functional.
The app is called CloudSocial, you can find it on the Play store.
I am hoping to get some constructive feedback on its ease of use, usefulness, appearance etc.
Why this app?
I have lots of photos on Dropbox, especially a lot of old ones. There was no easy way to get them onto Facebook without having to download to a device and then upload. You can obviously share a link to the Dropbox folder, but thats not the same as having them actually on Facebook for friends to like and comment on individual photos.
Similarily, my digital camera can upload directly to my NAS drive, which in turn uploads to my Dropbox account. Using CloudSocial - I can easily browse these photos and select which ones I want - and send them to a new or existing Facebook album, with whatever privacy settings I wish.
Description
Send photos from Dropbox to Facebook!
CloudSocial allows you to easily transfer photos from your Dropbox account to Facebook. You can transfer photos to existing Facebook albums, or create and send to new albums.
Features:
* Browse and Transfer photos directly from Dropbox to Facebook
* Easily create a new Facebook album for your photos, or add to an existing Facebook album
* Photos are not downloaded to your phone, so no large data transfers
* Choose Facebook privacy settings for new albums
* Photos are stored on Facebook, so your Friends can Like and Comment.
* Click on a thumbnail image to view a larger photo
Any concerns about permissions, let me know. The app cannot retrieve any passwords for either Facebook or Dropbox! No email addresses or any other user info at all is collected or stored.
The app is ad supported using admob.
Thanks for your time and feedback is appreciated (even critical).
Reserved for Q/A:
Q. Can this app see my password?
No - CloudSocial uses authentication provided by Dropbox and Facebook, so we are unable to see or store any passwords.
Q. Do I have to wait for the thumbails to be downloaded before I select and post my photos?
No - if you know what photos you want to send to your album, just select them (or select all) and hit the post button.
Q. How much data does the application use?
Only thumbnail images are downloaded from Dropbox (not full size images). These thumbnails are very small in size (around 15KB). They are also cached so they will not be downloaded again.
Q. If no images are downloaded to my phone, why does it take so long to send to Facebook?
CloudSocial has to ask Dropbox for a link to your photo. It can take around 1 second for each photo to get that link.
If you are posting a lot of photos to Facebook, it can take a bit longer to retrieve all the links. Good news is that this is done in the background so you can use your phone wihtout interruption.
Q. It takes a long time to list all my Dropbox photos?
If you have lots of images in a folder, it can take longer to list and display them all. You should consider reducing the number of images in a Dropbox folder by creating sub-folders.
Q. Why didn't all my photos transfer?
Occasionally there may be a couple of photos which don't make it. This is often due to internal server errors either on Dropbox or on Facebook. This tends to happen most when you are trying to upload a lot of photos (100+). We recommend uploading 60 or less at a time.
Tried this out and it works great, transferred a lot of photos using it (well my wife did and she found it easy to use).
I've left feedback and rated on Google Play. :good:
Sound good but I usually share my photos directly by url from Dropbox.

Thanks for the reply, I'm curious as to how you share your photos on Facebook. Do you have to share the photos individually?
If you want to share an album from Dropbox to Facebook, it only creates a link to the dropbox folder. So the user has to navigate away from Facebook in order to see the album. And they cannot comment on individual photos.
Also - you may not want everyone to see ALL the photos in an album. With my CloudSocial - you can select whatever photos you want from a dropbox folder, and send them to a new album, with whatever privacy settings you choose for that album.
Try my app and let me know if it is easier to share your photos and let me know!
Thanks
Going to be going from a 16GB to 32GB Nexus 5 shortly... I remember when I transferred my pictures from my old Galaxy Nexus to my N5 all of my pictures were jumbled up in no particular order. I recall doing a search fora solution after that but didn't come up with anything concrete. I don't want to go through adding them 1 by 1 again since I now have over 1500 pictures and 100+ videos. Any advice to make this easy?
The file names are in numerical order.

Yes and no - I have a lot of pictures that my wife took from her iphone which has a different naming scheme, hence the dilemma.

Well if they are from two different types of phones, obviously they will be jumbled up due to the different naming scheme. Maybe organize them into folders on a computer and then transfer them, keeping them in folders on your device.
Just upload them to google+. They will be organised by date, and you dont have to worry about filling your storage with pictures

I have them organized in folders currently (also uploaded to my google drive - not plus). Does uploading to plus keep the folder format intact?

Yes, you can organize your photos into folders on Google+
they will stay in the same folders on your phone, nut the uploaded copies will be organised by date in the photos app that comes instead of the gallery with lollipop

Maybe if you auto upload. But if you have your files on a computer, you can create folders in Google+ and transfer them into whichever folder you want. Or if they are on your device, I use Picasa Tool to upload to specific folders. They show up in folders in the photo app.
I didn't know you could do that. Thanks for the tip
So if I was to use the G+ and upload them from my PC to G+ and then pull them back from G+ to my new phone I can have them stay in the same folders and be organized by the correct date?
I just had a look, and apparently you can set up google+ to show folders from your drive accout as albums. You just have to enable it in the photos settings page

Once you upload them and organize them in folders, you will be able to view them from your phone just how they are on G+. Just upload them and open up the Photos app. They will be in "Albums" in the photos app.

Oh yeah. I had forgotten that it will show photos from Drive. If the OP has all his photos on drive, he can just enable that.

QuickPic has the option too. Just slide from the left side of the screen and add it.
So I checked the show Google drive photos in quickpic and sure enough they are there in the folders just like I uploaded them... sadly though they are not in the correct order. Even listed by "date decend" they are kinda mixed and matched

Sometimes there is nothing you can do about it unless you edit every photos details manually. I have photos uploaded from three different phones that I have had over the past years and there are some out of order. Things that could cause this could be editing the photo. It might save the photo with the date you edited it. Using a different camera app that may not have saved all the info correctly. Basically, unless you are using the same camera, same app, and never modified an image, you will probably have some images out of order.
Be a good time to ditch the junk. Why not print the best on nice paper, frame and make your wife's dimples show!
