When you start messing about with custom ROMs, apps and whatnot, you come across setting permissions. It's usually the r-shaped one, but sometimes not. Can I just give (whatever) full/all permissions (clicking all the boxes)?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Well, you can, but it'll probably mess things inside your system, and some apps might not work correctly, and you'll most likely start experiencing lots of bugs after a while.
The above assuming you get a successful boot.
Yes you can and it would work but it would be a security risk giving everything access to the file

has anyone been having issues after rooting using one click root? I've tried Touch Wiz, ADW and Launcher Pro. My widgets will all of a sudden say not avaible and disapear from the widget list.. also, the phone will randomly restart.

I was having random issues with widgets and freezes before root. In my opinion I think touchwiz is just clunky.
Never had the issue with my Captivate.. im thinking about returning it and waiting for the AT&T Nexus S.. I can't believe Sammy would release a phone with this many bugs!

My vote is That the file system is rfs and that is the culprit. However rumor has it that supercurio is working on a lag fix. I. Have no proof of this. Just an uneducated guess

As usual check to make sure what storage the app is installed on. I am having some issue with my Audiogalaxy widget personally. I never told it to do so, but it installed the app on my internal "memory card" as opposed to on the phone. Move it if you have to.
Try restart after that, and if it still isn't working, try removing and reinstalling.
(I'm beginning to suspect some widgets I am used to may be gingerbread only)
Yeah gtasks is deleting itself and also my videos and mp3s randomly stop working.

well he tweeted it. he didnt say in progress, he simply said he was looking through the infuse source code... and then said the infuse would get the voodoo treatment. first sound, then lagfix. dont expect it this week or next. or even next month. it might come that fast but it might not. he got a sgs2 and may be sidetracked with that, also he is heavily involved with new stuff for voodoo sound, maybe we will get squeezed in to this next voodoo sound release, maybe the one after.
is anyone who is having trouble using apps to sd? that is known to cause disapearing widgets. the sgs's have ample storage for apps. i dont know why people insist on moving them to the sd. maybe they have a fast sd card but the phone doesnt need much. embedded os is kinda designed to do minimal i/o.
I had the same issues with widgets deleting. I had to uninstall and reinstall from market to get the going again.
I should have said this first, my issues only started after rooting. But then again I only had the phone for about 10 mins before rooting it.
got rid of it already though as I have an sgs2 on the way.

odd. I have had zero problems with the phone. no reboots. no widget problems.
i have added/deleted many... including evernote.
no problems.
rooted.
No issues with force closing, but I have had quite a bit of disappearing Widgets. Grooveshark and audible from the same panel in go launcher. I haven't done root or anything.
Can I admit that my love of this phone maybe more than just a man's love for a device.

I had the same problem of Widgets Disappearing, mainly after reboots.
In my case, the culprit was that the applications were automatically installed in the Internal SD (16gb one) of the phone instead of its flash memory... The end result was that when the phone booted up, looked for the widgets /before/ it had finished mounting and scanning the Internal & External SDs, causing the OS to simply removing the Widgets since it could no longer find them.
Try checking on Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> <Problematic App / Widget> (And if available) -> Move to Phone
Reboot and they should stop disappearing.
This totally works. Using go launcher and unrooted Infuse 4G. Both Grooveshark and audible widgets now stay active in the widgets menu.

I think you can get titanium back up and it save everything data and apps then you can reinstall everything. It has to be the paid app the free only supports one app. I could be wrong but someone else can confirm what im saying.

It only applies if there are framework mods or if the base firmware version is different. System app data is usually incompatible and in some cases user app data will cause issues.

TiBu supports all apps backup, both paid and free.
Paid one does additional tasks like batch restore without prompting for each app and data.

Well your JUST TRYING out a Rom, why even set your phone all the way back up......just load up the essentials and go at it, how fast is the email, how good is the network, browser speed, sound, bugs or whatever....then move on to the next Rom.
i guess some would see that as a lot of work, but if your not willing to do it.....then you will never really see what good and bad with the Rom.
Make Nandroids and Flash away. at the current moment i can swap between, Miui, Cm7, Infused 2.2.3, and even Hellraiser combos in a matter of minutes WITH ALL MY APPS AND DATA by just grabing my nandroid and flashing ( Of course you will want to know that you cant just go flashing any nandroin on top of another nandroids all willy nilly....so make your sure your current Kernel matches up with the nandroid you plan on restoring.
I've been getting constant FC's while opening my contacts list lately (process.android.acore, or is it android.process.acore, it's either of those) and I'm running out of ideas on how to fix it. I've applied all the ROMs available for this device (yes factory reset in recovery, wiped and reformatted the usuals, fixed permissions, etc) and regardless of each fresh install, each ROM always FC's with the same .acore crash when going through my phone contacts. The rest of the system apps and everything else works fine, just no access to contacts for longer than 5 seconds. Was hoping I could find an answer from someone more tech savvy than myself, as I do not know where in the system directories .acore files reside, let alone how to alter them. Thanks to anyone that can help me through this annoyance.

I guess Its possible it could be a hardware issue. Out of curiousity do you use titanium backup or anyother backup service?
Sent from my Senseless Doubleshot using xda premium
Ofcourse But the last time I manually restored using Norton Utilities, only installing the apps I used the most, and got the same result. I even tried using a contacts app from another source, moved the original app to the sdcard and renamed the new one in its place using root exp, changed the permissions to what they needed to be, then I found myself without a working dialer app...lol
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
It would seem that the contacts app is deeply rooted in the sense build, although it still FC's while using other launchers.

A lot of things rely on then to function. Freezing isn't the same; I freeze Wifi Calling with no issues but when I try to uninstall it I get constant force closes every second until I do a battery pull, and that's on a bit of propriety software! I sincerely doubt letting Messaging or the like exist is hurting you enough to warrant risking potently annoying problems

Those apps are tied to android system dunno why it wont give fc on freeze since its almost the same as uninstalling them. But ya if you did delete those you would get tons of fc on startup and be forced to do a battery pull and reflash rom or backup.

Because you also need to delete the corresponding .so file in the lib folder.

If you are on a stock rom and delete system apps you can never install any future OTA updates. The updates check all system files first and make sure they are unchanged. If you freeze apps you just defrost them before installing an OTA. If you deleted them then no chance of OTA update, period. If you are not on a stock rom then it doesn't matter. You might wind up with a continuous force close issue that requires reflashing the rom.

I got rid of stock browser and tmobile stuff off of my phone and didn't receive FC's.
The downside ro this is if you remove the browser or anything when you do a hard reset it won't be there so you have to rely on a back up and be careful what you unistall.
I learned that the hard way when i first started with android. I unistalled swype since i use SwiftKey but did a hard reset to clear everything out and well i couldn't log in to my google account at the beginning because there was no virtual keyboard to use.

there is a free market app called My Backup that has a non-root version, it will backup your data and apps separately. it works pretty well, and will backup your app data. it can sometimes be flakey restoring all your apps, but it mainly works. i've found it flawless for data such as sms/mms, bookmarks, call log, etc
edit: just make sure to save your backup in a safe place, like a physical sdcard if you have one in your device, or your computer, since the unlock wipes your device. if i remember correctly, the app will store your backup in a folder called rerware/MyBackup..... something like that
If your not rooted it doesn't do app data. For not being rooted it does have a lot of nice options for sms, mms and such that a lot of apps mess up so its still a nice find.
