Since I will be getting this tablet tomorrow. I would like to know if anyone knows if the current debugs root method works on the recently released firmware? I probably will root before connecting to the network; however was just wondering.

Yes, it works just fine with 9.4.5.26. I've done it several times now!
It does. So does RootKeeper if you've already rooted it on an earlier firmware, so you can do this either way.

Meh. OTA Rootkeeper has lost both root and the backup on my device on upgrading both .21 to .22 and .22 to 0.26. I do not put my trust in it any longer.

Have you done OTA or flashed it manually?

Just make sure it's backed up before an update and you should have no problems. I usually delete the back up copy and create it again just to be safe. I have never had an issue with it. Also if you applied an update like the above poster mentioned manually it will wipe that back up everytime. FOTA should be fine though.

Both, as the first one was a manual flash, and the second one was OTA. Root lost both times. :S

Drivers seem to matter a bit for this as I think it's been mentioned in other threads. I did the OTA yesterday and when I went to restore root today from the same laptop I used originally it failed every time. Using a different laptop solved the problem.
The other laptop had the vipermod supplied drivers while this one had whatever windows pulled down from WindowsUpdate.
Now, back to installing BT5
For some reason my old lady encrypted her TF300T. is there a way to decrypt the tablet.
It's my understanding that you have to do a factory reset wiping data to do that.

Curiously, outside of issues with bootloaders are there other downsides to encrypting?
I encrypted mine because it for personal and corporate use. Only small drawbacks I find is you have to login twice when booting, once to get past encryption and once at the lock screen, and boot time is a little slower than without it. Other than that, it seems to operate the same.

I am in the same situation as you. I use my TF300T for personal and business use. I use Touchdown for our corporate mail and I have all of the passwords set and approved by IT. However, up to now, they haven't required that the entire tablet be encrypted. Good to know about the slight drawbacks as I suspect that they will require encryption (I know they are looking into this - LOL)
My company didn't require it, but since we deal with high profile contracts, I didn't want to take any chances. Sorry it didn't work. That's what I read.

It's still fixable. If you use the search, you'll find 2 topics about recovering an encrypted tab.
I tested the encryption too. Two facts I realized:
1. It costs some performance (Antutu without encryption: 12430. With enryption 10353.)
2. Never try to root an encrypted Tab with the "one-click-method": Your password will not longer work and you will have to do a factory reset.
Are you sure about that last one? Because now I'm concerned. I can't remember which i did first, but my concern is what happens with the next ota update? I'm rooted and encrypted now. I'm wondering how I'll be if i backup root the need to reapply.

Ok let me ask another question... i do not have my bootloader unlocked. No interest in that. I'm running .30 stock. Is it possible to download the firmware from asus, put on an sdcard and do a complete reinstall that way? Perhaps that would get rid of the encryption.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
I've never used encryption, but I assumed there would be an option to unencrypt right where the encrypt option was. Is this not the case? If so, that's a major oversight.
No there is not, hence my questions, and you are in fact warned about that multiple times prior to executing it. I'm fine for now but still, would like to know how to get out of it if i want.

Curious... my phone is encrypted but i can just flash a rom and its back to new. Shouldn't it be the same with all ics based roms???
I haved flashed a jb update yet but flasing jb on my encrypted ics worked fine. Ofc its a fresh jb but thats ok.
Cheers

That was my assumption but keep in mind I said my bootloader is locked and I no intention of unlocking right now so my question is, in that state, can i download the same firmware version I'm on from asus, unzip it to root folder on an sdcard formatted to fat32 and use that to completely reinstall via the stock recovery... the power volume down thing? That would get rid of the encryption I'm sure.

if you reflash you should have a fresh system - since /system and /data will be overwritten. if you have cwm running you should be able to adb push it onto the sd card, if you get fastboot to work you can flash it via that -
I had to do it too via fastboot and it kinda was a PITA cause i didn't check xda - lol but in another thread i did share my steps what i did to get cwm and stock rom working again. though i dont recall what threat it was in the tf300 section
cheers
I did an OTA update to JB and successfully saved my root with OTA Root Keeper. I then had to do a factory reset and my device went back to ICS which I was surprised by...
I ran the OTA update again and it failed. I couldn't re-download from the ASUS site OTA so I downloaded manually. Ran SuperSU, updated my binaries, backed up root with OTA Rootkeeper then ran the manual update to JB.
On reboot I tried to restore root but OTA Rootkeeper reports that there is no backup of root saved so I am stuffed.
Where should it be saved? Why would it have been lost during the update? Is there any chance than I can recover it from somewhere? I'm wishing I hadn't bothered with the upgrade now.

Once i leave it for a while and clikc the power button it turns back on and says the battery is around the mid 40%. Im so confused right now...

Just by common sense, it's either firmware or hardware. If hardware nothing we can do about it, so let give it a shot with the firmware. Just do a factory reset and reflash the full version of firmware. If' that's not fixed the issue then you need to send in for repair.

Just reflash the full firmware from Asus, download from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734005
Unzip the initial file you have downloaded. It will unzip into another .zip file actually.
Now do a factory reset. Now copy that zip file to a microsd card's root, and insert the card into your tablet.
You will see a notification icon in the taskbar that there is an update detected, click that notification and it will update your tablet

If you reflash the full version firmware and stills same issue then probably hardware issue like your battery etc...You can contact Asus tech support, see if they can help you.
So here is the long story.. Over the summer I had unlocked my bootloader and rooted my tablet. I did have a rom on it but i decided to go back to stock because my family and I were going to go on vacation and I wouldn't have access to a computer if something were to mess up. I then returned home and was going to root it again and install a custom recovery. I tried to plug it in to my laptop and it said that the device had an error and could not be read and that it malfunctioned. I had never seen this before. I could charge it and use it on my keyboard dock correctly but my computer would not recognize it at all. I then contacted ASUS support and they just fed me with bull****. I played their game and reinstalled drivers, factory reset it, tried a different computer, all of that and NOTHING would work. I then sent it to them just to see if they could fix it. They had it for almost 2 months and sent it back because I had unlocked the bootloader. Ever since I had gotten it back, it has been the absolute slowest tablet in the world. It lags 24/7 and it is almost boiled down to a piece of ****. I cannot connect it to a laptop of computer in hopes of putting CM on it to fix it. Can anyone please offer me any advice!!! Is there a way to use an app to somehow root it, should I buy a new usb cord if that could be the case, something??!??!!! FYI my bootloader is still unlocked and I am running stock (US version) 10.4.2.17. Thank you.

Even if you flash stock JB on your tablet, after having CWM or TWRP on it, that shouldn't replace your custom recovery. You should still be able to get into recovery by shutting off the tablet and then booting up holding vol/d and power and then selecting RCK. From there you can flash any ROM you want even if you are no longer rooted.
I'm not 100% about this but i'm pretty sure.

Actually I think if you flash a stock ROM, your recovery is wiped, but you can put it back easily since you're unlocked. If you made any backups to internal storage, those will stay if you don't wipe the data partition. Flashing stock ROM doesn't erase data, just the system partition.

I got into the recovery and I wasnt able to get past the screen where there is the android logo with the red triangle and a "!" in it. How would I go about doing that with the stock recovery?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
OK so stock out of the box, you have no recovery. That's why you get the droid with the red triangle when you try to access it. You have none. You must download recovery and flash it in. I recommend twrp. You can find links and instructions in the Dev section.
If you have recovery and flash a stock ROM, you lose it because where recovery is gets written over during flash, but you can easily reload it. That's what I have to do every time Asus releases an update - no sweat.
You must have your bootloader unlocked before you can do anything I just said.

If you are getting the android with the red triangle then you need to flash recovery again. Sorry about that, I thought it stayed when you flashed stock roms but obviously not.
So yeah, just flash TWRP again and you can flash the ROM of your choice.
