Screen protector? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Does anyone still use them? I'm debating taking mine off, but Idk if I should, the small crack on my screen just got a little bit bigger. I'm wondering if in general the gorilla glass is strong enough to hold up, or having a screen protector is needed?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app

I don't use mine no more I found it annoying so I took it off and my screen look way better and the only things is just take care of the screen be cautious that there's no screen protector
Sent from my GT-P3113 using xda app-developers app

I still use em.
Planning my escape!

I've read somewhere on XDA that Gorilla Glass will supposedly resist scratching from steel, but a grain of sand can still scratch it. I don't like taking a chance that I'm going to swipe the screen with a little bit of sandy soil on my finger. I always use a screen protector. Having to wipe it on my shirt to get fingerprints off is a small price to pay for an added layer of protection.

umm...I think a screen protector is like a condom.
It feels good and looks good without it.
But when there is a ..."situation"...there will remorse when you don't have it on.
Keeping a screen protector on or off will depend on your life philosophy and experience.
edit: because I take other precautions, I go bare.

FWIW I'm currently using this one and am very happy with it.

It's easy to apply and hides fingerprints, not sure about soiled ones though...
As with all screen protectors it can change the appearance of screen images, but so can finger oil, dings and cracks.

[Q] Sprint Screen Protectors

Anyone else using the sprint screen protectors for their epic? I just bought a pack and I'm really disappointed with them. They are just big enough to cover the screen it self. So there is no margin for error when putting them on. Also I think they are supposed to be anti-glare so make the beautiful screen of my epic hazy and almost pixelated. Any suggestions for decent clear screen protectors?
Does the epic really need a screen protector? I thought the screen was made from some super durable stuff?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
i know i made the sprint people put one on
i can take the hazyness until i get my skinomi
i recommend skinomi
Its still plastic and there are a lot of things that can scratch plastic.

I'll give skinomi a try. Thanks.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I took mine back for a refund. They just cost too much and made the screen feel unatural. They let me keep the one I had installed already until my new protectors came.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
People have been saying that the skinomi ones are too long I think... I'd recommend the phantom skinz one since I've had no problem, they have a cut out for the sensors and camera (which the skinomi does not have) and they have a lifetime guarantee.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
this is the one im talking bout i ordered one it has lifetime replacements and openings for the sensors and cam it is awesome on the htc hero so i hope it continues
Well, all I know is that at least the first batch of Skinomis didn't turn out so well. See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746037
Too long, but possibly good customer service? And like I said, no cutouts for the lights/sensor/camera. Skinomi has gotten plenty of good reviews for other phones, but for some reason the ones for the Epic haven't been well received.

Yup! I am no doubt in the minority but I have managed to scratch my screen. It was in strange circumstances having to do with hiking on a trail (and I hardly ever hike, less have my phone out...) but scratchedy it went. No 20ft heights or bouncing. Just fell face down from my pocket on a dirt path with a pebble somewhere in there. They're not invincible, people.
lol unless ur doing stuff like that you dont need a protector
under normal use pocket car table things like that no but if ur roughing it why not protect it and get a skinomi

Scratched mine easily... I have 2g steel plugs on my lobes, and the first time i heard them click against the screen I knew I'd have a problem. sure enough, there are tiny scratches from where my ear hit the screen. My fault for not putting a protector on sooner.
Also managed to put a little hairline scratch down by the menu button, but i have no clue how i did that.

Case + Scratch Guard
Hi Team,
Since SGR doesnt sport a Gorilla Glass display, which is the best combination of Case + Scratch Guard to protect it?
I've already ordered case mate barely there. Quality of CM is usually very high.
About screen protectors- so I haven't seen/tested any good one. All of them are cheap, self-adhesive **** impossible to apply and avoid bubbles. Either Zagg or Copter doesn't support our device yet, but maybe some of you found a decent one?
EDIT: I've just given a shot to this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150684872722#ht_1976wt_1026
According to users' opinions it gives a decent protection for perfect price.

I only buy matte screen protectors off eBay.
Usually i got for the cheapest **** there. I cannot tell the difference between a $20 and a $1 screen protector.
The best way to put on the protector is to apply it right after removing the original protector that comes when u buy the phone brand new.
I know i know.....Most of u buy the protectors AFTER u buy the phone.
I've always bought the protectors and case before i buy the phone hahaha.
Nevermind this.
Next, never use the microfibre cloth **** they provide for free.
Usually the cheap yellow cloth they give is useless.
I have 1 from Ray Ban, 1 from Swarowksi, 1 from Oakley.
Use the best u can afford. The difference is great !
Wipe down the entire phone.
Careful never to touch the screen.
Some ppl apply a few drops of water on the screen for moving it after applying.
I dun.
Make sure no dust or specks.
If any, use a sticky tape.
Dun peel of the whole screen protector.
Follow this method....
This is similar to how i do it.

Cheers !
Thanks a lot mate!
I've usually followed all steps you wrote but always some small piece of **** goes under the film and as a result I get unremovable bubble, so I don't trust those self-adhesive protectors. I've already used 5 of them (cheap **** between 2 and 7 USD) and never succeeded I've always had better luck with zagg's invisible shield, i mean those applicable with water.
So you have to buy a Swarovski Crystal for 1000US$ to get the cloth and then be able to clean the screen.
hehe... just joking....
Good guide.
I used Vikuiti screen protectors in the past and found them very good
I don't see the ones i used before, but they have several ones for the Galaxy R

If u get **** under the film just before setting it down, lift up the film and use sticky/celo tape and pick it up. then continue laying down the film.
Only release the film down completely when u cannot see any dirt specks between screen n film.

Agreed that CaseMate is one of the best quality for cases. Which type would be good enough to withstand accidental drops? Rubber/Jelly/Hard Case?
Also, is there a suggested brand for the screen protectors? I require one that is scratch & fingerprint-resistant.
Read online that Matt-type protectors make the screen look dim! Is it true?
Thanks in advance,

For accidental drops, I've found TPU and Leather cases the best.
They stay on the phone after the phone drops.
Hard cases, either plastic(coloured type) or polycarbonate(transparent type) with pop off the phone when dropped.
Matte protectors are finger-print resistant but allows about 80%(just my guess....so dun sue me if found otherwise) of light to pass through.
Clear screen protectors allow almost all the light(99% my guess) to pass through from the screen output.
The worst is mirror screen protector which allows about 60%(my guess again) of light.
All the figures are based on the fact the screen brightness is at maximum n only an assumption.
So it all depends on ur requirements and needs.
Cheers !

You where only trying to help, not being naive. I don't know if I can explain this correct but if if you feel the surface of a lemon or an orange it has a weird sort of greasy feeling. That is the case with almost all wet install screen protectors like zagg and body guardz. Although i believe body guards has dry install ones so if you are talking about that one, then I havent tried it yet.

It's not so much the feel of the screen I'm talking about, the screen protectors I've used mess up the screen's picture quality adding this bumpy look (similar to an orange).
It's really noticable on the G2x because of it's IPS display (i think).

I just bought one for my G2x, it's by XO Skins.
I can't even really tell its there at first glance. I mean, obviously I know though.
http://xoskins.com/ Search for G2x and you'll see full body and just screen.
I got the just screen one and it goes edge to edge. It does have a bit of a rubbery feel, but it doesn't bother me too much since it's not my daily driver anymore. :x
Just swiping you don't really feel it, but if you slow down, you can. I heard it goes away after a few weeks though.
EDIT: An important note is that this is a wet-apply protector, so you'll have to give it a bit before you go back into using the phone.
EDIT2: Here's some pics.
like stated above the one I use is a wet apply method and it is a ZAGG. it has a slight rubbery feel but you get used to it and it doesn't have the orange peel you are trying to avoid. plus it comes with a no questions asked lifetime warranty so if I take it off or mess it up they send me a new one free of charge
stay away from the Skinomi DryTech ones, I took mine off after a week because of the lousy feel-- plus some of the air bubbles never went away.

Skinomi TechSkin on the other hand is a different story. I don't care for the super-rubbery feel of some screen protectors either. TechSkin, in my opinion, is better. I think it may have to do with the thickness. The "orange peel" is minimal compared to say BODYGUARDZ (which I have used). I don't know, there's just something different. It seems clearer, feels more like a dry applied protector. That said, It is a wet-apply screen protector, and does have some of those undesirable qualities. It's quality though puts it somewhere in the middle of those two types, and I really like it.
The orange peel effect can be due to low quality screen protectors or a bad application. I've had good luck with Zagg (but I hated the feel, so I returned it), Ghost Armor, and PhantomSkinz. Ghost and Phantom both feel great, but Ghost is a bit easier to apply. Had a few resistant bubbles near the edge of the PhantomSkinz

Once you will wipe it with wet cloth it will remove the Vaseline, When the screen loses all the Vaseline residue, It will develop the slight fogging effect on the screen. I say once a week won't matter. Fingers don't get oily if you do not leave excess Vaseline on screen.
I found it out during the horrid winter we had in December...

Plasti-Dip'd my battery cover.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Plasti-dip, it's basically rubber in an aerosol can. It dries matte black in color and it's rubber, so of course, it's nice and grippy . It doesn't hurt that it looks good either. And if you decide you don't want it anymore, it peels off like a piece of tape. It really is amazing stuff.

In the top pic, you can vaguely make out the verizon logo, but it's nothing a second coat can't fix.
I'm going to walk around with like I normally would and check out the wear to decide if additional coats are necessary.

Interesting. I just picked up the S3 and I feel like I have to hold it with two hands at all times so I don't drop it. I'll be interesting to hear how your fix stands up to day to day use.

Even though the S3 is smooth it's still has a little grip to it.

I would say that rubber, silicone, etc. wouldn't affect reception at all.
Metal, aluminum, etc. would though.
Or metallic substances embedded in a substance which otherwise wouldn't affect reception.

You can find a can at Home Depot or Lowes for like 8 bux. Comes in black, white and yellow.
The one coat job didn't hold long. It started to pull up along the edge. So i'm thinking a quick spray around the edge up into the underside should secure it a bit better (might also fix that creak noise near the volume rocker ). The thinner the better so as to not obstruct the snaps. Will update when completed
Just got a can of black for 5.95 at home depot.

i'm really considering doing this to mine now
I just sprayed the exoskeleton of my trident case. So far it feels pretty grippy.

Nice work.
No drips and it looks very smooth with slight texturing.
Even though the S3 is smooth it's still has a little grip to it.
I liked the S2 textured back cover, as well as the grippy Evo 4G, but you seem to have found a nice diy fix

Found this:

But you can search around for maybe a better price, and read reviews on durability.

I would say that rubber, silicone, etc. wouldn't affect reception at all.
Metal, aluminum, etc. would though.
Or metallic substances embedded in a substance which otherwise wouldn't affect reception.

What a steal and you can then use it for other things. Saw some people use it for their bike windscreens.

Transparent plastic spray. Does this exist? I like how my case looks but would like it to have more grip like other comments here have mentioned. Any help?

did you spray just the outside of the back cover? i'm just a little worried of my battery getting a little hot and having the plasti-dip melt into the back of the phone... no issues so far? it is a great diy idea, and i'm gonna try it on my extended battery cover. i can't find a decent case at a reasonable price and the 6$ for a can of plast-dip is perfect.
BTW, being a NYer, i blow thru the soles of my sneakers. Plasti-dip +shoe goo= almost brand new soles...
You all should just use Rhinoliner like for a truck bed.. Haha.. Plenty of grip then and no peal
Sent from my MIUI powered S3 thanks to StrumerJohn
