Easy Root for Most android 4.0/4.1 devices including One s - HTC One S

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Check out that post someone has made a one click root method for Android 4.0/4.1 devices and it has been tested working on the One S (S4). It should also work for the S3 but has not been tested from what i can see, so if someone with an S3 wants to test and let everyone know please do .

I dont think so!
Anyone must test it.
In this thread one member says it works but without any other infos like rom version etc.
An other member runs in trouble *tampered* (no real trouble i think) and resets the phone.
I will not brick my daily using one s and have no second one s for testing this script.

Tampered is a non-issue, since it goes away by simply flashing a ruu! Happened to me once and I've solved the issue this way without problems.
Let's hope this doesn't require unlocked bootloader! :fingers-crossed:

Unless T-MOB005 is one of the supported CIDs, and I'm 90% sure it isn't, it won't work unfortunately.
Thanks for trying though.

Your suspicion is correct. The only supported cid for the ruu the other guy linked to is T-MOB010 (and of course super cid 11111111). It only supports T-Mobile USA.

You are the one who gained root access but lost it after reboot? If that's the case it seems they've now found a fix for this.
By the way, were you bootloader-unlocked or completely stock when you tried rooting?
Thanks!

It is confirmed as working on the linked page, but I can't get it working.
I am an experinced user, but cause I just joined the forum I cna't even post in the forum to find out why. When I access 'adb devices' through the android sdk in cmd it shows my device as there, but whenecer I run this script it tells me;
'ADB server didn't ACK *failed to start daemon * error: cannont connect to daemon'
I have the phone connected to the computer in USB debugging - am I missing something here?

Kill adb.exe in taakmanager and rerun the bat file....
You cant run 2 adb.exe same time..

Maybe it doesn't work due to the buggy backup/restore feature in htc software? This exploit is based upon that feature, if I understand correctly.
Also, I took a look in the One X forum but didn't found any topic related to this way of rooting. Did they succeed with the One X?

[SOLVED] Best way to Root only

Hello!
Just wondering what the best way to gain root only is on my Desire S. Would it be SuperOneClick or Gingerbreak? That is, no custom ROMS or recovery, just root so I can run Titanium Backup and a couple of other root-only apps.
My Firmware info:
Baseband: 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M
Build: 1.47.161.2 CL78999
HBoot: 0.98.0002
Radio: 0-3805.06.02.03_M
If it matters, I'm on a Vodafone UK branded model.
Oh, and like anything else, to reverse root, it'd just be to delete all instances of su and busybox on the file system?
Thanks a lot
Edit: Whoops! Forgot my disclaimer - I'm not a noob, but I'm not entirely sure what the best method is with the latest firmware without making any 'irreversible' changes to the bootloader.
You can run either of them. I used gingerbreak because of its simplicity. Just an apk which you install and run.
Also are you s-on or s-off?
Im pretty sure you can unroot using those two methods. But double check if you want.
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
I'm S-ON. I'm willing to make it S-OFF if necessary - but I'll take a look at Gingerbreak. (Which I think will only give me Temp Root, which will be fine as I only want to back up a couple of apps!)
Thanks!
Well , I will say you should go with Superoneclick , As it has 99.9% success rate, where as Gingerbreak is at work everytime. I rooted my DS with SuperOneClick. Well if u r going with gingerbreak then Good Luck..
The only reason i didnt recommend superoneclick is because when i rooted my phone superoneclick wasnt available for desire s so i didnt want to recommend it but obviously if your saying its better than gingerbreak then it probably is. Plus gingerbreak worked first time for me. I think when you s-off it should give you permanent root

Both SuperOneClick and Gingerbreak didn't work, so I ended up using Revolutionary.io.
Seems to have worked well, even though I've voided all warranty (and the phone is only 3 days old!).

Nah, he said it's unbranded. So it's RUNNING on AT&T's network, but it's not an AT&T phone. As HTC has said (in not so many words), AT&T's the one that doesn't want an unlocked bootloader, it may be that Rogers doesn't have the same restrictions.

heh yeah, just looking for anything that might explain the difference. i wonder if Rogers secretly has more than one model, or maybe niceppl somehow got a dev unit by accident. There were 4 or 5 units of the HP Touchpad that made it into retail outlets with Qualcomm's development build of Android on it, so who knows.

Is it at all possible that you may have used the Nexus AIO tool to try to unlock the bootloader? i say this because this section and theres have been easy to mistake if you just CTRL + F to find the phone. I found myself in the wrong forum mistakenly :| also maybe not having the ADB version different but having a different set of tools might have something. Maybe (no offense ) you mistakenly using the wrong tool might have been a godsend!!!
can you provide us with a logcat and a whole onslaught of information about what software you used and what versions they are.
Further more, i dont know if you do this but i tend to use super tool packages as a workaround from having to download the sdk and all that since the tools are included in there. if so could you send me a list of the files you added to the folders and what they are??
Thank you so much in advance
nice!
if this is all true, then please share, this will help a lot of people, has anyone else been able to do this?
and maybe i'm being dumb, but is the at&t version very different?

Maybe start with supercid first
i understood that we need to get supercid before we can get s-off?
So i think we have to start dig around mmcblks with a hex editor to achive that.
i did a little search and i think it could be somewhere in /misc, but don't let my n00biness guide you wrong. they have it in S4 on mmcblk04. i did same mod to my HOSs3 but cid didn't change so the S4-method doesn't work . Does anyone have any knowledge about the whereabouts of the cid?
yes, superCID is starting point for getting s-off

In fact, with this method cid will change. But spl will re-write it back at next boot. So it is not mmcblk0p4.

Just sitting there and doing nothing won't do anything. If you have basic knowledge of the Android/HTC filesystem and some adb commands you can try different things if they work. I'm searching on the internet how other HTC devices got supercid and I try the same thing on the One S. But it's not working out well because of the r/w bug on Trickdroid 6.

Where did you purchase the phone? The info you've provided suggest that it's not new.

It can be rooted but having a new hboot with old software its pretty obvious it's not as new as you think. Could it be a refurbished phone?

I'm not sure. I bought it through my friend in US. I asked him to buy a new one and ship to me.
I hope you didn't pay full price. Because what you have isn't a new phone, it's used.

Ok this guy ^^^ is right.
1) Download the all-in-one kit by hasoon2000 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952426
2) Make sure you have the correct HTC drivers installed.
3) Open the toolkit and run step 2b. Motochopper (3.18). Keep in mind you need USB debugging mode on and the fast boot option in your phone's settings off.
4) Run the Get Token ID step in the toolkit.
5) Copy your ID from the command prompt and then go to htcdev.com, register, and then follow the steps provided by HTC to unlock your bootloader.
Pretty straightforward but sometimes it just helps when someone spells it out for you.

Is there a reason you wanna root the phone? Or you just doing it because it can be done? It's really a simple process. I'd read more before trying, the answers u have been given are more than is even needed to get it done. Some people really shouldn't root their device. That's why they come locked. So people without the knowledge or skill set dont trash the phone. If you read redpoints tutorial it has everything you need. He spent a lot of time making it so newbs could get it done without being spoon fed. Read it twice, and by read I don't mean skim looking for the section u think you need. And if you are still unsure read it again. It's crazy the amount of people who ask the same questions over and over again because reading and learning on your own is too time consuming.
Ok I'm better after venting a little lol

If the phone is refurbished (which most probably is, like mine when was replaced due to a cracked screen), the bootloader cannot get unlocked. I have this as an official HTC reply. The reason is there is a mismatch between the phone's IMEI and serial number of the device and their serverscannot cope with that, resulting in the wrong token being generated

[S-off] Firewater s-off for HTC One XL

Firewater S-off for HTC One XL!
Firstly let me say that this isn't my own work, all credit goes to @beaups and @Fuses for bringing this to our device.
Firewater is a new method for achieving s-off on HTC devices.
For everyone that has taken the 5.18 at&t update before unlocking you should be able to use Firewater. It has a temp root feature which will enable you to get s-off on your device, once you have s-off you can get SuperCID via a simple fastboot command (fastboot oem writecid 11111111), then you can unlock your bootloader at htcdev. I'd really appreciate any feedback on whether this works for you.
This is just a simple thread to get this method some exposure for users with our device. As per the licensing section on the site and beaup's wishes I cannot include the download or instructions in this thread. However, we can have this thread serve as a troubleshooting/help location for the One XL. Alternatively, support for rumrunner s-off is available at #rumrunners on the freenode and andirc networks. Please make sure you meet all of the requirements before contacting support.
Firewater S-off.
Please go give beaups and Fuses a bunch of thanks for their work!

Your situation is the situation I'm really interested in, we really need to find out whether it's possible to unlock the bootloader after taking the 5.18 update. Let me know how you go.

Doesn't work for me.
Stock at&t 4.2.2 (firmware 5.18), bootloader locked, s-on. Output on temproot:
[*] Attempting to acquire root. This will take 5-10 minutes, be patient
error in setsockopt().
Failed to get prepare_kernel_cred address.
Failed to get commit_creds address.
Failed to get ptmx_fops address.
Failed to setup variables.
Well that's a shame, thanks for the feedback though. If anybody else can please attempt this also that'd be great.

I agree we need a few more people to test, as new as the guy that did test is. it could be a simple mistake as having anti virus on the computer, etc.

I tried it under linux with no antivirus, in windows (7) -- antivirus off. Everything done according to "Instructions (temp-root method)". What other mistakes could be?

I can't think of any. You might try entering a root shell after running the temp root, just to verify that is what is failing

I'll give it a go. I'll tell you all if it works out. (AT&T One X)
*UPDATE* I had no luck. same error as the last guy
error in setsockopt().
Failed to get prepare_kernel_cred address.
Failed to get commit_creds address.
Failed to get ptmx_fops address.
Failed to setup variables.
I'm going to be receiving another HTC One X soon. I can only assume that it will be on the 5.18 firmware so I will try this method. If not... off to Mobiletechvideos for S-Off.
I got the sane errors

Confirm NOT working on 5.18 firmware
Since I like to run the updated AT&T ruu whenever they come out WeakSauce-1.0.1.apk worked great for temp root and to get everything going again without needing pc after initial ruu. I was wanting to test stock for abit then was on the road and wanted to go custom and weaksauce worked perfect.
I am on 5.18. temproot gives the same errors others have posted. Weaksauce enables a successful su but firewater fails, not always with the same messages. I would love for this to work, but it looks like I'm just going to get any M8 anyway and make sure I s-off while the exploits still work on it.
Just did s-off on mine tonight and then super-cid. Mine also hung up at chugging. Exited the program and ran it again successfully. I am overjoyed now. Many thanks to the devs.

So, you successfully obtained root and S-Off on a stock One X on the newest OTA (4.2.2)?
