We dont have to mess up with fastboot to flash a rom, we just have to reboot to recovery and wipe data cache and then flash it.

And boot.img contains kernel and every rom contains the boot.img of the desired kernel in it (what I believe)
So we don't flash any boot.img via fastboot as its already included.
I havent seen one x maybe your recovery can't mount system properly or cant change boot.img for any reason, its just idk

thanks let me 1st get her permission to do it i doubt it going by her bad exp she had with me and her last android phone i kinda briked the I5801 i did revive it but from then on she dosnt allow me to fiddle with her phones:silly::crying:

Then install something like a Jaggy or nextgen, after a week or 2 cm9

You're free to go with CM9 now. It's stable.

LG P999 doesnt accept rom, kernel, root always goes to cwm.

hi guys i was using my phone with cm7 rom and cm7 050 stable kernel i just wanted to change my kernel. I tried to install harsh kernel from the CWM ( i got cwm by rom manager) and i installled harsh kernel but it said SD CARD DAMAGED so i couldnt use camera etc. I got cwm by same method after that i installed my old cm7 050 stable kernel. But phone has not been starting since i installed my old cm7 050stable it always goes to cwm. I tried a lot of combinations (kernel+rom, rom+kernel, just rom, just kernel.) I started to use NVFlash since my phone always gets cwm. After all i did stock recovery.(NO ROOT after that step BECAUSE I DID STOCK RECOVERY) My phone was not going to cwm anymore it was going to somewhere i think back up screen and stock there. i again installed stock rom and kernel. My phone goes to cwm always.
what do i need to do.
thank you..:crying:

ok. i will let you know what happens.
After that if u need cwm just install rom manager from the market and flash cwm recovery from it.
I could tell u a more direct approach to all that but I m telling u the linear way so whenever u mess up the device and want quick solution u know u can flash this gb v21e rom.
After u r in control of rooting , cwm flashing, n nvflashing ... just search for anything u want in this g2x forum and play with it... as long as u r not frying the device using extreme overclocking ..( which I can tell u this device is capable of sustaining but NOT RECOMMENDED) u r safe

Your first line was terrible advice just saying^.^
To the OP, never use ROM Manager to flash CWM because your probably gonna end up with the same situation again where something goes wrong, always use Nvflash to flash CWM, its always much much safer and its recommended by pretty everyone in these forums, so if you wana go around hacking and stuff on your phone never use ROM Manager
Hope this helped

Lol actually u forgot the fact the Guy did use nvflash earlier and messed up the device .... its all about how u want the people to learn. As I mentioned ealier its not a direct method but Cwm through rom manager always works if u r reading it right. I.e when u don't have cwm flashed before and choosing the right model.... I didn't wanted him to accidently flash a imcompatible cwm or stock one as he did ealier only to get Bck where he started .... dun think everyone is a pro .... the guy needs learning space .... let him play with what he has. He will get into groove by himself .

NEVEEEERRRRR use ROM Manager to install ClockWordMod EVER.
The only thing rom manager is good for on the p999 is downloads roms. Don't use it for cwm please it doesn't work u need a computer and nvflash only way it works. If you are using rom manager it will eventually brick

Like most people said. Use NVFLASH to backup and to load/flash ROMs ONLY.
BTW I recommend you to use the Hellfire Phoenix ROM. It is based on the CM7.2 and it works without changing our Windmobile baseband.

HELP-Cannot install ANY recovery

Hi. I really started to hate android.
OK,What's wrong with my O1? I'm using stock 2.3.3 unrooted to flash recovery. I rooted, i flashed a recovery and bang...just a hard reset no recovery installed! I tried with ROM Manager and few other apps, but it''s not succesful. I've tried to flash V10H.kdz (2.2.2 froyo) and try again but..no. ROM Manager says its succesfully installed CWM and when i click BOOT TO RECOVERY it boots to...hard reset. What is wrong with my O1?!
All new users flashing recovery through rom manager getting this problem

Ok, i was angry. I DO NOT HATE ANDROID. But it's obviously not my favourite. I just don't like its UI. I want XPERIA-ICS as XPERIA TimeScape UI has the best UI for me, and Sense too (but we don't have any stable working sense ROM's).
So can someoen rpovide me older version of CWM for old baseband? I can flash it with recovery flasher, and please let it be in .img format, as recoveries in .zip format cannot be flashed.
I Have CWM in ZIP format, but i cant flash with with AmonRA,wich im using. So hwo to remove amonRA,and install CWM properly?

Flash cwm over amonra.. same.. like you flash a rom through recovery.
You can later theme your phone just like xperia or sense.

Find an app to reboot on fastboot then use this(download a good recovery image coz the one in the one provided in this tuto is bad)
Good luck!

[Q] some help..

"Hi guys, newbie here..
Its been very frustrating for me to upgrade my current ROM on my xperia LT15i to CM10.. every time i follow the steps on installing the new ROM an error always occur. I suspect that the kernel im using is not compatible for CM10 and CM9.. so im stuck with my ICS ever since. i used to have a samsung GS1 and i never had problems on switching to whatever ROM i want.. but now Xperia is a different thing for me.. no ODIN.. only Fastboot and etc.. some help pls about the kernel.. and some steps how to do it right.. thank you guys.. my phone is already rooted and i have CWM recovery installed and used X-tools ... thank you..
Do you have unlocked bl?
Or you can't install cm Roms
And kernel is inside Rom zip!
It should be something like 'boot.img'
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium

i think BL is already unlocked before if i can remember.. i followed the instructions on the Sony site for unlocking BL.. uhm.. the latest cm10.zip has a kernel inside that i can use you mean? im really sorry coz im quite new .. so some terms needs to be spoon fed to me like step by step.. thank you for replying Ghost.. what should i do then? flash the boot.img inside the zip file of the rom? you mean should extract it manually then flash kernel via fast boot or odin?
Yup,flash that kernel inside Rom zip via fastboot not Odin!
It's ok! I understand you're new here!
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium
wow..
wow you reply soo fast!
so i will extract first the boot.img file from the cm10.zip file then flash it via fastboot then do as normal installing roms through the CMW ? by the way , does the kernel inside the cm10.zip already have a CMW of its own? so i could proceed to installing the ROM and the Gapps?
sorry guys..
im really sorry if im asking too much questions about details.. pls understand that im trying my best to keep up with you guys here in this wonderful forum. thanks by the way for the replies. thanks Ghost! hope to hear from you soon...

Flash via fastboot kernel
Rom with cwm
And ya,the kernel or boot.img has a cwm already so no worries

some questions regarding flashing roms

currently i am following the rooting tutorial by jaggy jags
my question is i am planning to install this sense 4 rom by derefas
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943775
why do i have to create "YOU NEED TO CREATE SD-EXT PARTITION BEFORE FLASHING 512MB MIN" ? for this rom and can i create this partion with the help of recovery
so i am currently on stock rom and will be rooting so Do i have to install some diffrent recovery to install this rom ? or the recovery A310E Recovery.zip will be fine
what about kernel do i have to flash diffrent kernel or the kernel is provided in the rom and if not then which kernel should i flash?
And if suppose i want to return to stock rom i found this link of stock roms http://www.mediafire.com/?qwr4n3phnfr4a
should i flash directly this roms to return to stock without unlocking the boot loader ?
And if suppose i made some mistakes and i am unable to acess the recovery is there any way that i can flash the stock rom ?
new to the Htc family coming from xperia
Thanks in advance
FD1999 said:
SD-Ext: You don't need, but it is recommended. And you are normally able to do so using recovery
The kernel is included in the ROM, no need to flash another one. But if you want, you can flash another kernel after flashing the ROM.
And installing one custom recovery is enough.

Check out the recovery in my signature... That image is from a lack of a recovery... Go back to boot loader use NRTK boot custom recovery and flash a custom recovery...
