Wifi File Transfer - Asus Transformer TF700

Has anyone had any success in using Wifi File Transfer Pro, with uploading files to the memory card? I tried to move a 2.6gb mkv to my memory card from my pc, via this app, and it wont work. When i tried with the free version, it said i needed the Pro, so i got the Pro, and still nothing.
I know i can do this File Manager HD and ES, but i wanted to try this out.

I don't know about Wifi File Transfer, but I use WiFi File Explorer Pro just fine. The only issue i run into is on my work LAN, where the network prohibits it.

i have the pro version and use it on all my android devices. it works like a champ for me and i highly recommend it to others. i have moved a lot of things, but not sure if if ever moved 2.6gigs at one time. i would try to break it up if possible. not sure what mkv is so excuse my ignorance with that.

I have pro version and large files via wifi transfer work for me, albeit relatively slow (2MB/s)?

I never tried it with large files but websharing lite worked fine for smaller files before. Maybe try that.

[XOOM 2] Xoom 2 Software Frustration

Connected the Xoom 2, to a windows 7 machine.
Insists on letting installing 'Motocast' which I let it...what a complete pile of shi*.
I want to 'sync' a 700MB .avi video, over usb cable, to the device...estimated time? 30 minutes!!! I swear this complete toss of software is insisting to re-encode the entire file to some bullsh*t format of their choice. Is there an option to turn this off and transfer it natively?
Secondly, thankfully, it also installs native 'portable' device drivers, allowing Windows 7 file explorer to browse the device. Great, so I copy the same .avi file and paste it to the device...'Do you want to copy xyz.avi? Your device might not be able to play this file' I am prompted...'yes' I click. Just as it finishes copying (after about 4 minutes...much better) it bombs out, notifying me that because the device cannot play this file it is cancelling the transfer...wtf?!?!
The only interim solution i've found is renaming the extension '.avi' to something like '.proprietrysoftwarecansuckmyballs', copying it, then renaming it back to '.avi' once transfer has completed solves this.
So can anyone offer any 'clean' solutions to my file transfer woes? If theres no improvement, this device will be getting returned next week, which is a shame as the tablet is a great bit of kit, its just a shame the software blows.
Look for "Wi-Fi File Explorer" in the market.
This looks like it only transfers over wifi?
I need to transfer over usb cable.
Had this problem myself, looks like it doesn't come with the drivers. After a bit of searching, I found that the standard driver package works:
http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles...al_Drivers/MotoHelper_2.0.53_Driver_5.2.0.exe
Installed that, unplug the USB cable and put it back in - should work fine!

Hey thanks man, that worked a treat.
Just for clarification, does you still prompt you that the device may not support playback of the file, but then successfully transfer it (whereby it would previously error at the last second)?
No idea - haven't had that particular part of the issue myself - the main thing I had was the slowness...
I am a linux user ... i will only have the option to upload files via wifi network ?

I guess the same way will work to linux too . Xoom2 has only one partition on the disk ? that the reason not to be able to mount it as a normal usb ? If you root the device is the anyway to great a small 2 Gb for ex partition to use it for easy transfer ?
Off topic about xoom 2 ME . How good the screen and and the battery life are ?
Useless tablet ?
In fact it's worst!
As a Linux User I hoped being able to use MTP... But I tried mtpfs and mtp-tools on several distributions without any luck.
But what is worse is that FTP server applications won't work too! I tried SwiFTP, FTPServer, and some other: the servers are not reachable. It appears that not even a single ping can reach the tablet. I think Motorala have put some kind of firewall in it (maybe it has something to do with the netflix HD certification?).
For me this tablet is actually useless. If I can't find a way to transfer some files on it without using MotoCast today or tomorrow, I will bring it back to the supplier...

You probably hit it on the head about the Netflix certification. I would think about returning it, man.
a solution ?
Thanks to a French forum (frandroid, in the Xoom 2 topic... sorry I can't send links here), I tested a solution to the transfer problem: It is possible to use (on the computer) a server to share the files such as a samba server.
It works fine. But it's not as easy to browse, select, copy and paste file with explorers on the tablet than it is on computers (several windows, keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl-c/v, and so on).
But it's now possible to exchange files with the Xoom 2ME without going through a cloud or using Windows/motoCast.

Sorry for answering so late.
The screen is quite good.
The battery life is terrible compared to my ipad2. Charging needs a lot of time and is very slow. I guess it's because of mini usb only.
Currently i'am using the device as a Kindle Fire replacement, because off the lightweight (KF is heavier and bulky). The books i usually read have more weight than the device itself.
I like it for that.
But i may not be a good adviser because my device is a prototype. It is not smooth and the speakers are terrible.
I think 8,2" is the perfect size for me. The weight is so much better than any other tablet i had.

Try using a terminal on the Xoom 2 and ping the computer you're trying to connect to, while pinging your Xoom 2 from that computer at the same time. It's like you have to force them to see each other before they can start connecting in future.

[Q] Media Scanner Issues

For some reason my Media Scanner isn't working and updating the libraries. I checked for .nomedia files and there were none. What could the issue be?
Are you talking about the stock gallery? Quickpic detects everything fine for me, I never use the stock anymore.
Well yeah the built in Android one.
I create folders and download files on the tablet but I can't see them on my PC over MTP until I restart the tablet which fires up Media Scanner.

Oh, there's your problem. I never use the PC connector stuff, it's notoriously unreliable and slow. Personally, I'd recommend a microSD or airdroid to transfer stuff.

I don't think that's the case here. My Samsung Galaxy 10.1 runs Media Scanner when files are changed and have never had this issue.
Also the default music player does not see new files added until the tablet has been restarted.

Ooooh, I see your point. I meant the ASUS tablets' file transfers are unreliable (this was the case with my prime too). I don't really know what the problem might be. Have you tried upgrading the normal stuff (upgrading firmware, factory resets)? Also, I've heard good things about the beats ROM in the dev section.

I am running the latest .26 firmware and have tried factory reset. I've not flashed a custom recovery yet, so not going to be able to try custom ROMs just yet.
File transfers for me have been fine. I created a folder on the tablet (via ES File Explorer) and then had to reboot the tablet before this folder was visible on my PC via MTP. I then copied 20GB to the tablet without a hiccup.

Wifi File Explorer works for me (I use pro version). Run it on the unit you wish to access and use a web browser on the unit you wish to access with (obviously this assumes both are connected to the same wifi router).
There are other ways but this is the one I use because I can access from MAC and Ubuntu over wifi as well; In other words any thing on same wifi router that includes a web browser.
Currently I am accessing mt tf300 from a nook tablet with this method.

Well I basically want to browse files on my phone through the tablet and compare/sync files manually between the two devices. Also, I'm just really curious as to why this feature doesn't exist (unless I'm doing wrong).

[Q] File transfer is very slow (Note 10.1)

Hi guys,
I have a Note 10.1 N8010 with Omega v2.1 rom.
I'm using ES File Explorer to manage my files, and I have noticed something very wired. When I'm copying a file from my NAS drive to my tablet, the transfer speed is about 400kb/s (which is very slow!!!). I have a SGS2 with ES File Explorer, and the transfer speed is 2.5MB/s.
How can it be? I have also tried it with Astro and the results are the same. I haven't tested it on another rom yet, but before I do that, I would like to know if someone else have/had this problem?
I look forward to her from you guys.

I have the same problem, with my N8010 and SGS2, both using ES as you are. Except my problem with the Note is far worse, typically 20-30kB/s is the transfer speed, when the SGS2 just flies. I can often get the speed to pick back up by disabling and re-enabling the WiFi, and this will work for a while, but it doesn't take long for the speeds to suck again.
I've tried different channels on the router and changing the 802.11 a,c etc, but everything I do results in a temporary speed boost, nothing makes it work properly permanently.
Interesting! Are you using the same Omega ROM?
Mine N8000 series (3G version).
The file transfer is between 1MB - 5MB depending on the size/amount of files transferred.
Using ARHD ROM

Nope, completely stock (unrooted and rooted, no difference).
I'll try a different manager and see what happens.
UPDATE: No change. Pathetic speed, unless I dis- and en-able WiFi, then it's fast again (using X-plore this time). It's OS or hardware, I think, not an app problem.
I must agree with you NFGman. I believe the speed can be better.
It must be a driver related somehow, maybe a different Kernel will do the trick (If there is one!?)! I'll try to look for another Kernel and test it again, and I suggest you do the same.

Saving to external SD card

When I first got my NotePro 12.2 I was able to use EXFile Explorer to move files from the internal SD to the external SD card. Now when I attempt to copy files I get an error telling me ExFile Explorer does not have permission to save to the external SD card. The Native "My Files" program copies files just fine. So I know it is possible. I have the same problem with Aqua-mail. I would like to set up a directory on my external SD card to download email attachments. This works fine on my other devices but not on the NotePro. I get the error saying it does not have permission.
Is there a way to change permissions to allow writing to the SD Card?

Sorry, a recent system update killed that feature. Google thinks it is a security problem to have apps write to the external card. However, many posts here say it can be done if rooted but I'm not confident enough to try that. (yet)

Unfortunately I have not yet rooted my NotePro. I use it a lot for work and travel and was trying to keep it stock. When I rooted my previous tablet (Xoom) it left me unable to use some of the movie apps. Not sure if that is a problem with the NotePro but entertainment while traveling is one of my big uses for the tablet.

So basically they made having an external SD card useless? I hate it when companies cripple a device because they think they have to "protect" me. I would think being able to encrypt the SD card would provide me a means to protect myself and that should be good enough. Just this sort of thing is why I moved away from Apple products.

Have you updated the app?
I'm assuming you mean ES File Explorer. It received an update to allow access to the MicroSD months ago. It works fine on mine.
And no, they haven't made it useless. The MicroSD was always meant to store media. In other words, store your films, music, books and other such heavy files. Not to store system data. You don't need to write a film to the MicroSD to watch it. And viewing the file wasn't restricted in the update.
Also, remember that Google never build MicroSD support into Android.

While you can save stuff to the external card with ES Explorer, you can't rename any file there. You will have to use the stock file explorer to do that.

Yes, I have the latest ES File Explorer app. The way I use my tablet I get a lot of emails with files attached. Some can be large. I like to keep them on the microSD card so that I can manage things better. Not being able to save email attachments or even move them to the microSD makes it pretty useless. Yes, I can use the native app "MyFiles" but I prefer ESFile Explorer. It just irritates me that they pick and choose which apps they will allow me to use. The microSD slot is one of the reasons I bought this device.

You could make a tasker profile to automatically move files from the download directory to a directory on the MicroSD.
I'm a bit confused as to why ES doesn't allow you to copy or move to the MicroSD. I just tried ES on mine and it works... The only thing that doesn't work is renaming them.

It's certainly possible.
It might also be related to the fact that we're using different hardware. (Mine's the LTE edition).

I've been holding off rooting it as well. My concern is the affect that it may have on screen mirroring (someone said that they can't get it to work while others have said that they don't have problems with it) Sorry I can't answer your questions in regards to playing movies. If and when I do I will use Civz P900 rom. I've used his roms on my note 8.0 and my daughter's acer iconia 500. His roms are excellent with excellent support.

I don't use screen mirroring so I can't speak to that but rooting will not affect movie playing.
From the looks of it, it affects mostly the P900. Interestingly I've been reading identical issues with the Note 3 that also mainly affects the N900 with the same hardware as the P900. The N9005 has the same hardware as the P905 and has no issues.
Seems like it's indeed hardware-related.

Makes since, but seems rathater silly of Samsung. I actually have a 8 inch note with 4g (Note 3 I think?) And saving to the microSD card works fine on it. That's why I thought maybe there was something wrong with my NotePro.
I guess I could try rooting and if anything is adversely affected I can unroot back to stock.
