[APP][2.2+] Google Now-like event reminders - Android Apps and Games

Hi,
last semester I developed an application as a project at my university, that reminds about events from calendar when it's time to leave, based on location of the user and the event. I thought I will share it, so here it is (attached).
The most recent version can be found on my Dropbox: http://goo.gl/dqVTa
If you prefer, app can also be downloaded from Google Play: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.stanwise.timespacereminder
Later this year Google presented Google Now, which has this functionality, but is available only for JB. My solution works for Froyo+ so I think it still makes sense. What is nice, I compared it with Google Now on my JB Defy and it seems to work just great!
Still, I would appreciate any feedback, especially on Froyo and Gingerbread. Feel free to download and tell me if you like it. Bugreports, suggestions and feature requests are more than welcome. And most of all, enjoy the app!
2012-09-17 (0.9.4): Fixed event detection on pre-ICS devices.
2012-10-21 (0.9.5): Fixed FCs on reboot on some devices; Travel means selection (driving/walking)

I've set the settings to Phone Calender and in my phone calenders there to events. But the app doesn't seem to be able to detect it :/

Do these events have a location set in the calendar? Events without location information in their details are not detected by this app.

Thanks for your feedback, @frenzyboi. It turned out to be a bug in Google Calendar Contract on pre-ICS devices. I applied a workaround and it should work fine now. You can download the most recent version from Dropbox link or from the updated attachment in this thread.

I'm glad you like my app
As for the trip tempo option: If you find that you drive slower or faster than google (and consequently, my app) predicts, and the journey takes you e.g always 5% more time than the app thinks it should, you can enter there 105 to take that into account. Or if you are a pirate-driver, and save 10% of the predicted time on every drive, you can set it to 90 for the app to give you accurate predictions.
I intend to change it to slider for this to be more clear, but haven't got time for that as yet.

[APP] Analytix for Google Analytix(Trial/Paid)

Several weeks ago I've posted my new app in the market. It's called Analytix and it might be very useful for Google Analytics users. To my opinion, the current apps were not good enough so I decided to create a new one.
There is a pro version which costs €0.99 and a free trial version. There is no time limit for the trial. The trial misses some great features and the data requests are limited.
Especially for users of the Google Analytics for Android SDK there is a separate section so you can monitor all your 'pageviews' and events from this app.
The pro version offers a clean dashboard where you can directly see how your site is performing in relation to yesterday(by default). You can choose other timespans from the slidingdrawer.
There is a new chart section to view your data in a selected timespan.
Another unique feature is the social section where you can view filtered traffic which means that the data is filtered by referrals. The top 10 social sites from 2010 are used for filtering.
Besides these unique features, this app houses all the must-have Google Analytics features like Visits, Pageviews, Browsers etc.
Pro version:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dibbus.analytix
Trial version:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dibbus.analytix.trial
Awesome!
I must say, I'm deeply impressed by this great app. I was using another app for some time now but this app is better in any way.
Everything I was looking for is right in the place. Using favorites in combination with the login system is extremely powerful! Great job!
Is it possible to view adWords data? I can integrate adWords in my Google Analytics account. Would be awesome if that should work.

Hi Martin, thanks for the response and great to hear that you like the app!
Regarding adWords, it is possible to add adWords to Analytix. I've to find out the most interesting numbers to include in the app. I'll have a look at the possibilities.
Do you have any idea of the information you would like to see?
New release
Just released a new version of Analytix. Now inlcuding a homescreen widget! Take a look at the first picature for explanation.

@MartinSav,I've included adWords section also. You can view adViews clicks and adWords keywords information.
Version 9.0 of Analytix has just been released. Integrated Google Pagespeed section. Get an overview of all optimizations for your websites!
you can read all about this new feature on the Analytix blog:

Analytix HD released
I've just released Analytix HD, an Honeycomb optimized version of Analytix.
I've received lots of request to make it Honeycomb compatible. So the interface has been rebuild completely using Honeycomb elements like the action bar, tabs etc.
I've tried to use the bigger screen to create more visual elements like charts.
The possibilities are the same as on the mobile version.
The url of the app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dibbus.analytixHD
I have to pay separately for honeycomb version? Not cool... I'd be happy to pay the 2e if it'd include the phone pro too.

Please contact me if you have bought the HD version. I will refund the payment of the first app. The Honeycomb version is just completely rebuild. it's impossible to create a single version for the app.
So, if you have bought the mobile app and after that the HD version, contact me and tell me your what's your e-mail address so I can check it and refund the first app!
The app is AMAZING, he's an awesome dev. You guys should buy both versions like I did to support him
He's always on top of things and making sure the customer is happy about the purchase

Maybe an option to tick remember me when signing in to Google on browser?

Hi Folkert,
I have a problem with the widgert not updating. I have the it set to update every 4 hours, however, it sometimes fails, and then just sits there not updating at all. Please attached the screen shot of the widget on my phone, and me holding the status bar showing the date and time!
Hopefully you have time to look into this.
Many thanks, Matt
Hi Folkert,
very nice work. Is there a possibility to use multiple Accounts ?
Thanks for this nice app.
Greetings from Germany, Goetz
Google Analytix allows you to use multiple accounts. The app will handle just a single GA account.
Right now I've almost finished the newest release which is using Google Account Manager for authentication. This will ease the authentication process and allows the user to use multiple accounts within the app. I hope to release this version this week/weekend.

NFC sounds interesting since it's quick and easy to use. I'll keep that in mind and start looking around for another NFC device for testing since my only NFC device at this time is my Galaxy Nexus.
Can this app be use to backup app data? Like ID and Password.
doesnt work with whatsapp... its wipe the app data...
working with anothers apps
its a good application and good luck
@nelsdzyre You can use this app to save your app data on another device and see this as a backup. If you want to do a backup using a single device you would need something like a backup tool like TitaniumBackup. If a backup succeeds depends on the app you want to backup because some apps encrypt their data with a device specific key so this will not work but maybe a local backup using TitaniumBackup will.
@yogevx this may be a limitation by WhatsApp, does syncing WhatsApps data work if you try to push the app data manually using TitaniumBackup or any similiar backup tools?

Was wondering if on future updates you could add some functionality to not only share App data, but apps themselves? I find myself having to manually pull the apk for Whatsapp from my phone using TiBu every time I want to update Whatsapp on my WiFi Tablet and thought this would help alleviate those issues.

the only risk to consider is "piracy" .. you may want to consider some sort of google acct authentication or something similar so ppl cant just share any app with anyone.. you'll run into some major legal issues
idea
talk with google about mix it with google drive
@mcmb03 piracy was one of our discussion points but since apps aren't saved in a "special" location anymore and even paid apps can be moved to sdcard without rooting but are protected using some kind of license verification like Google's LVL (License Verification Library), this is not a problem and especially no legal issue.
You can share any app with anyone as soon as you root your device. But your friend will not be able to run it, because paid apps have built in license verification libraries.
tl;dr: No piracy possible without modifying (e.g. hacking) paid apps.
TF201 (Stock) ICS
HD2 (Typhoon CM7 3.8.8) Gingerbread
Both using the same sync key.
The HD2 finds the TF201.
The TF201 struggles to find the HD2 sometimes. A closing and re-opening of the app is needed.
Sync from the HD2 to TF201:
Click on TF201. The TF201 displays the big AppSync logo.
The list of apps on the TF201 appear. Nice.
Tried "Cut the Rope" and "Wold of Goo" push from HD2 to TF201.
Failed.
Drops back to the device selection screen on both devices.
Sync from the TF201 to HD2:
If the HD2 appears (it usually doesn't)
Click on HD2. The HD2 displays the big AppSync logo.
The list of apps on the HD2 appear.
Tried several games push from HD2 to TF201.
Sync Done appears, but nothing actually works.
Tried push from TF201 to HD2 (Hungry Shark).
Failed.
Drops back to the device selection screen on both devices.
Bug 1: The screen turned off as I clicked HD2. When I turned the screen back on, the listening for device screen appeared on the HD2. On the TF201, the apps list still stayed. When clicking on an app, "an unknown error occurred" followed by a "connection timed out" error. The app doesn't like the screen turning off. It seems to drop the connection when this occurs.
Bug 2: On the HD2, the TF201 appears multiple times. Each time it goes back to the device selection screen after a sync failed, it adds another device. Same name, same IP address. Clicking each one had the same functionality. An annoying bug, The same issue happened on the TF201 when the sync failed. Getting devices to connect to each other (I think after clicking on the other device) removes some, if not all the multiple entries.
Overall, the app did not work for me, but a good idea. This app has great potential.
Automatic sync of selected apps would be awesome, and more intuitive icons than >> and << . I need to click them to see what they do, and I think on ICS, they may be swapped around.
@xebozone thank you very much for your detailed report, I will have a look into this asap and include the fix in next version. :good:

[APP][2.2+]What's new - Keep track of release notes

Don't you just hate when you have to go to google play after an app has been updated in order to view the release notes?

What a brilliant idea!
hmmm, will check this out.
did you know there's another App that aims to do exactly the same job called "Changelog Droid" ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...NvbS5jeXByZXNzd29ya3MuY2hhbmdlbG9ndmlld2VyIl0.

This is excellent! It will be very handy at the time of app update installs and is also great to use for quickly seeing past release notes for all my installed apps.
Like the idea a lot!
(and the app, of course)
Is there a way to see the last update date that's shown at the Play Store?
Does it also show update change logs of NOT yet installed updates? (I like to read FIRST update log before updating them)..

A wonderful app, but could you add the possibility to do an ignore list of shown apps? I am not really interested in all my apps' ChangeLogs, only of few of them.

Would it be possible to add a feature to sort the app list by 'latest update' in descending order?
Thanks, loving the app!

Besides, UI, how is this app different from an app currently on the Play Store known as Changelog Droid?

It's mind-blowing that Google's own Authenticator on its own Android platform lacks the feature to re-order the account entries, while the iOS version does support this.
And also mind-blowing that it lacks PIN control, any option to sync/ backup, and several of the other highly desirable (even necessary!) features which Mufri has built-in to the Authenticator Plus app.
I've also been pleased by Mufri's responsiveness and willingness to work to make the app have only the needed permissions. We've exchanged several detailed technical and philosophical messages; it's very nice to see yet another developer devoted to our community.
I can't make any claims about the security of the app as I'm not a developer (well, haven't been since twenty years ago) and I lack the tools, but I hope that others with more skills than I have will analyze the app and can confirm the app's health so the app can be established as a much better reference than Google's own minimally featured Authenticator, and that we can get Mufri lots of users!
Thanks Mufri,
-Jay

I am open for the security related queries about Authenticator Plus, I myself use it daily and I would be happy to improve its security.
If anyone have questions kindly post your queries here or @ [email protected]
This APK is version 1.3
(Latest is 2.9.x, a lot of development has been done in this year as it seems!)
I downloaded the APK to try it out.
It first works when it is installed and I was able to import my accounts from the original Google Authenticator.
Then I closed the app.
I can open it again but the keyboard pops up saying "sign in" (where usually the "enter" button is).
Even when I enter the correct passphrase it shows only an empty app without the codes.
I can also install and add the import plugin but then I don't see the codes anymore.
Used on: CM 10.2 and CM11.
Very strange...
i just installed the app and i have some issues. first of all i would like the option to not choose a passphrase to open the app, but well thats not a big problem. after i choose a passphrase and set the app up and want to start it again it just shows me the header with the logo of the app but everything else is blank, there is no password field to type in the selected password and even if i type it in, without anything showing, it doesnt open the app. i can just use it once and thats it
also import from google authenticator doesnt work. it tells me no root or script not in xbin. well its all there. the problem is probably root, because the dialogue to grant root never shows up. I try to get it now manually granted but still that doesnt help if i can start the app only once :/
I am on a galaxy note 3. hope someone can help me...
Yes, attached APK was outdated, I have removed it now.

Compatibility with Pebble Smartwaches
Hi !
Has anyone tried to use Authenticator Plus with a Pebble smartwach, through Android Wear integration ?
I'll get an Pebble Time in May and hope it will work with it, that's why I'm asking for a clue
Interesting, I never heard of anyone tried it, let me know how it goes .
Store site order in cloud sync?
I use Authenticator Plus with cloud sync via Google Drive.
It seems that the order in which I have the accounts in Authenticator Plus does NOT get sync'd to the cloud (or, if it does get sync'd up, then when the sites are imported back down from the cloud, the order is not maintained).
Can the author comment please?
thanks,
Jay

Pebble don't get it working through Android Wear, I think a layer is missing, maybe like an "emulator" (not the way Google implemented it) that can send other things but notifications to Pebble (it's the only thing supported for now).
Anyway, IMO for Authenticator Plus it will requires an Pebble OS app and a modification to makes it work as a companion.
Hi,
I would like to add a Battle.net account but the app fails to connect to battle.net server, is this something you can fix ?
edit : and do you think you can add Steam support in future release ?
Same problem with the battle.net server. No matter if I try it at home or at work or via LTE.
Since the Blizzard battle.net Authenticator works and I can access the battle.net site without any problem I suspect a problem with the Authenticator+ App. Syncing time with battle.net is also not working btw (in the settings)
Is the app working in 6.0? If Yes, could u send me a trial?

Is Google Now working AND useful for you?

I know GNow kills battery due to the constant GPS use, but I was willing to give it a try if it "help" me with my life activities. However, the result has been less than impressive:
1). Weather
Always off by 5-10 degrees (California)
2). Public Transportation
Always informed me of the "nearest" train station, which I do NOT use and I use the other one (BART in California)
3). Package tracking
Never worked for me, especially now Amazon stop including the tracking number in their email.
So what else is GNow used for? How does that working out for you?
I find the delays on the motorway useful for my commute. Mine doesn't use GPS constantly.

1. Weather is usually right...same area as you. It does the same thing as searching "weather in san francisco" in google.
2. Yeah that doesn't work.
3. That only worked when I ordered my N5. Amazon used to work, now it doesn't.
I just turned it off. I can still use all the voice commands, so it isn't a big deal.
I don't mind it. Tracks similar articles referencing search strings, tracks sports teams. Liked the Olympic tracking although you could not specify what country you are tracking. Also like the tourists locations when out of town. I don't really notice a battery difference except after a day or 2 without rebooting (doesn't allow device to sleep. Reboot and it's all good again.)
Has a fair bit of potential and looking forward to future updates.

Does these tracking only works with the Gmail account which you activated Google Now with?
Example:
1). I use 2 Gmail accounts --> A and B
2). A is activated for GNow
3). B is used for online shopping (package tracking, flight confirmation, etc.)
If I forward package / flight email confirmation from B, will GNow tracks it too even though it is only associated with A?

i have 2 gmail accounts too but i can only get notifications/reminders from the primary account. in the google now settings under accounts & privacy you can switch accounts so i guess it only works for one account at a time.

It works for me for flight tickets. Haven't tried it for anything else.

Strange, like everyone else, amazon tracking stopped worked a while back. However, I ordered a cable from amazon yesterday, and google now offered me a tracking option. I click it, and it takes me to the UPS site and offers tracking info. I'm looking at the shipping email in my gmail (desktop), I can't see any tracking number.
Viewing the source, I see it now. Amazon includes the ups tracking number in the link, and google now is scraping it.
I have Google Now enabled. I like the traffic times (and accident warnings), the sports updates/reminders and the package tracking.
Google Now will also pop up a card if I search a destination on my PC. Convenient if I actually needed directions on my phone, but unless the place was in the city, I probably don't need directions.
I was under the impression that Google Now only uses WiFi and Cell towers to provide you location data. However, Google Play Services will have GPS data Google Now might use as well (Play Services collects GPS data at times under the Location Reporting feature). That's how I understand it and based on the Location window, Google Search/Now never uses GPS only Google Play Services.
Again, this is what I believe from my understanding of how Google Now works.

1. weather has been off by 1-3 degrees, but who's to say which weather service is truly correct (i trust google over yahoo for instance)
2. i don't use public transit (horrible system set up in socal), but it gives me great directions and info on travelling to my destinations. i always check it before leaving work to see how traffic is so i can plan my way home for that day.
3. package tracking works perfectly for me
i also use it for sports scores, and track my stock portfolio.
i use it all the time, and i haven't seen any issues with battery drain at all to say that it "kills" the battery.
weather - yes
traffic congestion- no
sports scores and match reminders - yes
flight reminders - yes
package tracking - yes
Always listen feature is pretty heavy on battery and is never useful to me for most part of my day
However i use a Zerolemon extended battery so i only switch off when i am out for very extended periods of time
in short yes! google now is very useful to me and i love the new KITKAT integration with the experience launcher
I stopped using Google Now because it became kind of annoying. It kept recommending time to travel to these places that i frequented but it wanted me to label them and everytime I would swipe it away it would be there again the next day. I also turned it off for battery consumption. I just didn't find it that useful since my work place is constantly moving.
Also the weather seems inaccurate a lot of the time and I will just use the weather channel, or just briefly look at minarch which has the weather, current conditions and forcast right there on my homescreen.
I order from amazon a lot and it shows in Google now. UPS, FedEx, USPS. All there. I had about 6 in there earlier. All links worked.

I use it for weather (home & work cities), traffic/commute (mine shows for home & 2 jobs), sports scores & games/matches, packages as well...

I only use it for reminders, search references and sports updates. Otherwise its blank and seems minimal on battery.
The weather update was waking my phone consistently to update, where as dash clock does it only when the screen comes on so I use that instead.

Fairly useless battery drain for me. Weather? Off, location? It's annoying but i'm fairly sure I know how to get home.
