I'm about to purchase an HTC Desire, and I'm shopping for a good case/holster so I'm ready to go once I get the new phone (just waiting on the contract to expire)...
I work in a manufacturing plant, and I'm pretty rough on phones. I typically carry them horizontally on my belt, and I'm looking for something similar. However, I want something that will protect as much as possible as it get bumped on equipment, conveyor, etc. Screen-in is a must, obviously. I'd really like something that protects the phone all the time, and then some sort of holster that holds the phone with the protection.
The best thing I've found is a Innocase Rugged Combo, but it's only available for the Nexus One, and won't fit the desire...
Something similar I've found is a snap-on hard case combo but I haven't found any reviews. It's a hard cover and a clip-type holster together from Techie Warehouse (mfg unknown).
Then there are clip-type holsters like the Amzer Rubberized holster.
Or leather holsters like the MobiMan Premium.
Then, I've always got the option to make something. My best friend makes leather and kydex holsters, so I'm tempted to make my own holster like the leather or clip one. I would just keep the phone in armor like the Case-Mate Barely There, Case-Mate Tough, or PDair Aluminum Case within the holster I make.
What do you guys think? Any experience with any of these, especially the Techie hard combo case? Thanks,
Danny
Have you had a peek at the OtterBox line of cases? They are pretty tough, especially the Defender. The Desire cases are at http://www.otterbox.com/desire-cases/desire-cases,default,sc.html. Only the Defender has a belt clip, and it's made to fit the case. Someone else on XDA had one, and they dropped their Desire down a set of stairs, and it hit a wall and then the ground, and the case was undamaged, and so was the phone.
Just quickly, and off topic, but welcome to xda-developers, shorin!
Yes, I looked at the Otterbox cases. They look very nice, but they just don't quite meet my needs.
The Defender does have a belt clip, but it places the screen out. I'd break the screen in a day with that...
I have considered the Commuter if I make my own holster.
Thanks for the welcome. I've been on here quite a while. Just never needed to post until now...
Thanks,
Danny
It looks like the Otterbox Defender may be the ticket. I did some looking again, and I didn't see any reason the phone wouldn't fit with the screen in.
I found a review on YouTube that confirms this and I also asked the question via the Q&A on the Otterbox website and they confirmed that the holster will work screen-in.
Problem solved...
Danny
No problem!

Just a lily note. I personally use the otterbox defender. It fits the holder screen in or out. And my opinion the best protection money can buy.

Hi - was wondering if any one here could shed some feedback on their experience, etc., as to which case to get among these two as I think I've narrowed it down to these two.
I've bought one of those $5.95 Amazon cases which is alright, do I gain anything by buying either one of these.
Thanks
wow 5.95 can you share where to buy it a link please for 5.95

I also own this case and I will say that unless you want a little bit of extra drop protection then you have nothing to gain. The button design and cutouts on this case are perfect. The case is not bulky and gives the phone some traction so it doesn't feel like it's going to slip out of your hands.

If you are looking for the best case with the best look, protection, feel and all that, check out the case mate pop. Its a tight fit so taking the phone in and out take some practice. It gets easier with time though. I have the white one.

waiting for otterbox to come up with a defender case. although might be difficult with the shape of the screen
The Tough is awesome. Good protection, good grip and the fit is nice. Just don't expect it to be pretty. If anything, it reminds me of a tire because of the hard shell's texture lol.
Haven't seen the Otterbox in person, so can't comment on that.
I have the otterbox and the case mate and they are both nice but I prefer the case mate because of the textured back which adds TONS of grip to the back opposed the the slick plastic on the otterbox.
They look the same

CASE MATE is my favorite I have 5 cases but the Case Mate Tough Case never leaves my phone(unless i am swapping battery or memory card ). Also i have had quite a few (high) drops and it is still running perfect.
what i like about the otter over the case mate is that the ports are all coverd in the otterbox

Me too but I don't think it will come out

I purchased the body glove when i bought the phone, let me say worst 20 dollars i spent ever. The thing broke from the hinge in my pocket. Either one of these to options is better then the BG
Along with amazon, I find ebay to be even cheaper.
Saw and felt the Otterbox Commuter for me its a good case. It has good all over protection of the phone, However the back side of the otterbox is kinda sleeky than the back cover of the sensation.
I personally have the the Otterbox Commuter case for the HTC Sensation, so I cannot comment on the Casemate. I like the Otterbox for the design to protect the phone between the impact case and gel case together for protection, plus the headphone and USB port covers. The hard plastic impact case is not the best for grip, and the gel part of the case is a major magnet for lint from your pocket.
Hope that helps!
Edit: OK, missed something myself. Wanted a charging dock that supports a case, so I bought one. But it won't work very well if there is a USB port cover, so just something extra to consider!
Does anyone know if they updated the Case-mate tough case design, where originally they had the mic above the camera lens covered? I could have sworn I saw a thread where Case-mate said they were going to update their case and just uncover for that one hole. Just curious if anyone has bought it lately and knows.
I got mine in January I think and it still has that hole covered up. Is that hole supposed to be the noise cancellation mic? I'd have to ask my wife if my call quality has gotten worse since getting this case, but knowing her she wouldn't notice anyway lol.
If anything, it's probably not hard to just drill a tiny hole into the casing.
I have the otterbox commutor, and its sad to say. It is the first Otterbox ive owned that im disappointed in. Due to the top and bottom being rounded. After alot of use in your pocket the rubber on top and bottom loosens and sags. I bought the Otterbox the day it came out and overnighted it. I have yet to find a decent replacement.
In no way would i bash Otterbox on this one product. I have owned other cases for Iphone 3gs, Mytouch 4g and Nook Color. ALL cases were some of the best i have seen. Quality if usually above the rest. I think it is the design due to the large about of exposed rubber on top and bottom.
I'm trying to decide between the matte black TPU case and the hard case from Diztronix. What are the pluses and minuses on each?

Well I have the Matte black Case From Diztronic...Its perfect to me...feels great...fits right and looks very good...but just pick the case you like best my friend bcuz thats all that matters...
I was on their site for a brief moment after seeing the review for the TPU case (ordered one, it looks like a good case!) and saw the hard case as an option, so checked out the pictures.
Biggest difference is that being a hard case, it can't flex to put the phone in, so the top/bottom bits are missing like many other cases. That was the biggest reason I went for the TPU since it has protection all around.
Tpu vs hard case.
TPU is a tad thicker, but provides more protection. All corners are covered.
Hardcase is thinner and does not provide coverage on the top of the phone and bottom.
I have the TPU, and hardcase coming in on Monday. I opted for the hardcase because of the option to put it into my GNex Seidio Surface case. The tpu is too thick and makes the phone too long to fit so hoping this will fit and be my weekend warrior.
Saying all that, I currently got my LG Nexus Bumper. And I have to say I do like it a lot. I actually had one but since sold it when I first got the phone because using the bumper, the phone would not fit in any of my universal cases at the time.
I got the Diztronic tpu and had that and was quite happy with it. Seeing a few threads about the Seidio holster possibility, I went and bought the hard case because I already have the Seidio Surface spring holster. Between all of that happening, I finally got my bumper case and fell in love with the bumper all over again. Thinking I was going to sell it again because I couldn't find a decent holster to house the phone, I tried putting the phone with the bumper into my universal vertical belt holster which fit the phone and tpu case.
To my disbelief and amazement, the phone actually fit! The Diztronic stretched the the case enough where the bumper can pretty much slide in without an issue!
Well sorry for the long a$$ story, but this is what I had personally gone through so far. Not to mention getting yet another case, the Nillkin flip case. Not sure if I am going to keep it though. I may just sell it to another person here or ebay.
I'm going to be replacing my old M7 for an M9 pretty soon, and I want to have a case ready for it the second I buy it. I can't decide whether I should get the UAG case, or stick with the otterbox defender like I have with my last 2 phones. The otterbox has only let me down once, when it fell off of holster and got run over by a truck because I didn't make sure it was in there securely, and I don't exactly expect any case to stand up to that. The new defender also looks hideous in my opinion.
That being said, I've heard a LOT of good things about the UAG cases, and I absolutely love the industrial look it has to it.
I work as a mechanic and need to make sure I have a durable case should this phone ever fall, for example, off of a car lift and on to a concrete floor (6-8 foot drop). And in this exact scenario I've never had to worry about my phone when its in an otterbox. I need to make sure I have a case durable enough that I can chuck my phone across a room and not worry about it being damaged, as I can with the Defender on my current M7.
So for anyone that has one, or even both of these cases, which one would be the better option? Does the UAG compare to the defender as far as protection?
And if I go for the UAG, can anyone recommend a good Holster/hipcase for it, since it doesn't appear to come with one like the otterbox?
Edit: If anyone has another case to recommend I'm open to that as well!
Edit2: I also just found this Poetic case, has anyone tried it out? I have a poetic folio case for my Nexus 7 that I really,. really like, but does this offer good enough protection?
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-One-Case-...sbs_cps_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=0JB4GWJ85SBTVCHM61VT
Edit3: And another one I just came across that looks promising, not a brand I'm familiar with. Maybe someone has used this one, or another one similar to it before?

I've always been a commuter fan but sprung for a UAG this time round. While I think UAG will suffice for my needs, I would go for another otter box if I would pick again. Doesn't feel like enough shock absorption in the back of the phone

The UAG case looks 100% better than the Otterbox Defender case, but I have no idea how it would hold up in an industrial environment. I opted for the Defender because its what I've used going back to the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC M7, HTC M8, and now my HTC M9... And the defender case, despite all its short comings, has never let me down. I am in and out of a semi truck all day, in and out of factories frequently, and pulling the phone out of my pocket quite a bit throughout most days, so I need something protective, not that just looks good.
But, as I said, I have not had any experience with the UAG case, so I would also be interested in the durability of the case in dropped scenarios.
I had UAG on my M7, but for my M9, I'm waiting for UAG to come out with different colors. That is if they ever decide to make them. I like the Aero (blue color) case, so hoping they decide to make that one for the M9. Right now I'm using the Spigen Neo Hybrid for the time being.
I've seen the otterbox and it just looks too plain to me. Just my opinion, of course

Ive heard the UAG is supposed to be pretty durable as far as drop tests, but Im looking for a little more feedback than your standard tech website review of it, rather someone who actually owns it and has experienced it firsthand. Ideally someone who has used both.

I really want to go with a UAG because it looks so much better, but I need to make sure I'm still getting good protection from it as well, because the new defender just looks absolutely hideous.

For my purposes, the UAG provides excellent protection all around. Of course, it all depends on what environment you subject the phone to. In your case, it might be best to try both and make a decision that way.
Everyone will have subjective views on the cases and each scenario will be different. It's just a matter of which case will provide you with the peace of mind you are looking for, and only you can make that decision.
I hope you get the answer you are looking for. I'm sure both cases are great in their own right and both will have their pros and cons. Tough decision for sure.
I Pre Ordered the UAG ASH model for my M9 Coming from the UAG Maverick on my M8. I love the case and I loved it on my M8 as well.
The case looks great and I dropped my M8 enough times to know how tough the UAG cases are. NO Brainer.

Even though I already have the Otterbox, I'm considering getting the UAG as well. The screen protector on the Otterbox usually ends up with scratches after a few months of use, the rubber outer shell loses its shape and becomes lose fitting(although it can be slightly shrunk by boiling it for a tighter fit again), and the inner hard shell tends to have areas that don't snap snug together and creaks when pressure is applied. Its still a very good case but definitely has its flaws.
So, the UAG having the same ruggedness type of design, I think I'll give it a shot, although I won't be able to pick it up at the house for a few weeks. The only con I can see is that the UAG is lacking a holster like you stated. I have no idea if there is a holster that will work with it.
Sorry I am of no help on the UAG case, but I can say the Otterbox gives sufficient protection still, and the look grows on you... but it is no where's as nice looking as the UAG case.

I love the defender on the M7 I'm using currently, but I punched out the screen protector and took it to my local mall and had ghost armor put on my screen. (paid them 5$ to install it because I ALWAYS end up with bubbles when I do it), I absolutely love ghost armor and I'll be getting it done on the M9 when I pick it up as well.

Yeah, I may do that with my M9 when the front plastic gets scratched up. Or I may not do it, just remove the plastic; I never put a screen protector on my M8, and it did fine.
Defender with mod
The day I bought my m9 I went and grabbed the defender case. I like the fact that it's easily available, customer service is good and since my evo3d never let me down. The one thing I do change is the screen protector. I rip the plastic out and put a glass one in because it feels better. But I also know as ugly as some people think it is I never had to worry about using it with dirty hands and messing with colors. It just wipes clean every time. Shade tree mechanic here.
I had a defender on my S4, and same thing happened, fell off my holster, and was run over by a bus. The screen was smashed, but the phone still functioned. I was able to connect to PC and copy files off. The phone when turned on, and on WiFi still receives emails and notifications, just can't use it. I was using it as a way of charging a spare battery for the S4 replacement.
Have a Spigen Neo Hybrid for my M9 and am thinking of getting a defender for it, just to cover the screen.
UAG has my highest regards, I had can confirm their cases are heavy duty. I had one for my M7 and dropped my phone multiple times out of a firetruck so about a 10ft drop and never had a problem. I loved the feel of M7 case. The M9 UAG case looks bada$$ but i just didn't like how it felt on my M9. As for its build I feel it is just as tough as the M7 case.
As for the case I'm using now i got the Spigen Neo Hybrid, its not as tough as either the UAG or Defender case but it feels nice and looks awesome.
I'd go for the Otterbox. The last UAG case I had was a simple one shell design and wasn't very rugged at all. I would imagine the 3 layer design of the Otterbox will be much better for protection.
I always use the supcase alternative, it's cheaper and I think they are better made than otter box. The screen protectors suck but are glued in and just pop off so I replace with a glass one

Is there a separate TPU part, or is it pretty much molded into the harder plastic? The Defender has the solid interior plastic surrounded by the soft cover (three pieces rather than the two of the supcase).

Do you have the defender? If so can you tell me how flush the screen protector is to the screen? The defender on the m7 and m8 both had horrible gaps which made the touch screen much more difficult to use.
Built in screen protectors are usually pretty bad, at least all of the otterbox ones I've had were. You're better off punching it out and getting a separate one.

I got a defender the day I got my M9. Main reason was the belt holster. Working as a mechanic I tend to get sweaty and I hate putting my phone in my sweaty pockets. Holster fixes that problem. The screen guard doesn't have a huge gap, but there is a gap. I can't see it nor does it seem to hurt the way the screen looks but I can feel it when I type.
There's a few times in the past where I have used different cases that I really liked with a holster since there was not a matching holster with the case.
Looks like I'm going to run in the same situation here and was wondering if anybody had a good line of holster vertical or horizontal that they would recommend.
I'd prefer something with a rotating belt clip on it.
Thank you.
Pouch with a belt clip? So like an old Blackberry one? I have a pouch from Begoos on Etsy and its great, but it doesn't have a belt clip.
Not sure exactly what you are looking for but here is one I bought..... I posted it in a thread:

Search in Etsy. They have plenty of handmade pouches.
I should have said Holster I guess, but I figured folks would point me to case/holster combos. You know, like this...

Sorry for the confusion, was a crazy night, let me update the OP.

This is the case/holster combo i use. Not the leather-y pouch like you linked, but i'm more of a fan of something more solid protecting the phone.

Thanks, I've sworn off of Seidio though. Cheap holsters that the clips break off of all the time, horrible customer service, and other issues I've had with them. I've found some excellent cases for the 6P, just need a holster to put it in. The TUDIA OMNIX is the one I'm trying to find a holster to fit right now.
Here's another one,: Encased Spring Holster.
Not sure on the quality, but I do highly recommend Seidio products though.

That looks very interesting. I did buy the Seidio one similar to that one for my Nexus 6P though . I bought the one for the iPhone 6 Plus. The fit wasn't perfect but very close. I stopped using it after my phone popped out once. The clip also cracked the top of my IntelliArmor TGSP.

This is great! i was looking for one of these when i got my phone when it launched. Gave up on looking for one after a couple weeks though. Just placed an order for this one. Thanks!!!
I broke the holster to my case when it got caught on a chair and broke the left side support. The holster is the type where the phone slides in vertically bottom to top. I don't like the type where the phone snaps into the holster or leather pouches.
Does anyone know if you can buy the holster ONLY - NO CASE for the nexus 6p?
I need a holster cover with swivel clip. I don’t care if it is made by same manufacturer as my current generic soft lining and hard plastic shell case. I have searched ebay, amazon and other sites in google but could only find replacement holsters if I buy another case. I have four different cases already so I am sure I can find one to fit the holster.
I have checked out options in this thread but checking if there are other ideas.

Using the Seidio surface case holster.
Ditto on Seidio holsters breaking. I had theirs for my previous phone and wouldn't recommend it. Their design is flawed. I had an encased holster for my S6 and it worked really well. Design was probably one of the better.
Bump. I'm looking for something similar. Problem is that most of the pouches I find online are cheap and will eventually tear or break somehow.
