[Q] Changing OS - General Questions and Answers

Hello everyone, I am Angat, but you can all call me Alex! I have a HTC Touch HD T8282 a.k.a Blackstone!
I have been visiting this site for over a month now! Flashed a very nice Android at first, then tried to flash a much more advanced one [with no Bluetooth and Wi-Fi problems]! But i messed it up, since i forgot to flash the HSPL first! My phone was stuck in FastBoot problem for a few weeks, but then I fixed the problem and is now working perfectly with a new Windows and Android! But now to the main question:
~Is there a way to replace my Windows with an Android OS?

Try Google. I thought the Touch HD was WP6.1 only, but this guy seems to think you can install Android on your SD-Card.
Also have a look at this YouTube video.
However, this is Gingerbread - there appears to nothing more recent. To be honest mate - buy a new phone designed to run Android.
Also - don't blame me if trying this out breaks your phone, causes your wife and kids to leave you or results in the Terminators launching their offensive earlier than expected :silly:

No worries I wont! But these just show to have it, by installing it everytime my cellphone reboots! I need a way that it will stay Android, like when I lunch the phone, to not start with WM, but with Android! I know there is a way, but I dont know how?

Hi Noolis. Let me tell you that just like you, most people on the HD2 (including me) are waiting patiently for the Android OS to work as perfect as any other native Android Device. The guys on the main thread are working very hard for this to happen.
Just bookmark the following thread and visit it everyday. read the information on the 3rd post, and try their work in progress at your own risk. enjoy
this is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719646
Bookmark it, it'll make it easier for ya!!
i keep gettin a green screen then it freezs, i downloaded the zip to the sd card then i extract all the files then run the haret and it goes all the way to the drawling of the android and about a min. after it gets a green screen , what am i doing wrong please
i got that green screen as well but after a new restart it worked perfectly...
And before that i did have the error message "waiting for SD card" for a long time.
Even I dont know how I get Android running on my HD2...
Maybe just restart and retry, who knows!
Good luck
Android probably won't be working right for a number of months. Its ok though. The apps are nice but WinMo is still ok for apps (no calc on droid is as good as the panoramic one, Igo Primo > Igo Motonav, etc). By the time droid apps are leaps and bounds better, android should hopefully be working great on the hd2.
I say, just peek at it once in a while but don't really worry about it for another couple months.
Can somebody make a video for the new rom out?
How to make the Anroid OS working on the HD2 - Step-by-step instructions, FAQ, Tweaks
UPDATED! Read the informations & FAQs below...
For those who have got difficulty in making the ported Android builds working on their HD2, here is a step-by-step description!
Accessories:
- First thing you need to have is: The newest Jmz Android dual-boot program, which can be found HERE! The program must have installed in the Device memory!
- Another thing you have to have is a freshly-formatted SD Card (I recommend 2GB or bigger, but in theory the Android will work with a 1GB or less (the least is 512 MB) card...)
- A ported Android ROM (e.g. 2.1, Froyo, Desire ROM, usw.) You can find some working builds HERE! (Desire ROM, Froyos, Ubuntu builds)
Instructions:
- Firstly, install the latest Jmz dual-boot app (v3) into the Device memory!
- Download the Android build and copy it into the ROOT of your freshly-formatted memory card! Normally you just have to copy the files into your card, but in some cases you have to copy the whole folder though... (for more infos check out the build's README file, if it has got one)
- If it's needed, RENAME the "zharet" file to "haret" and the only txt file (Unluckily I don't know what its name is at the moment, I remeber to "README.txt" or sgh, but now I don't have any builds in which the name of these files are not these names) to "startup.txt"!
- Instert the card to your HD2!
- Restart your device!
- When the boot-screen appeares and starts, choose the "Boot Android" option!
- Wait for the Android build finally starts up (it takes 2-3 minutes or more, it depends on the ROM)
- Use and enjoy it!
If you still have problmes with the installing, send a PM or reply a comment!
I hope I could help with this.
[Please excuse me if I made any grammatical mistakes...]
IMPORTANT! You're really ought to make a full-system-backup before trying ANY of the ported builds out! (I recommend the SPB Backup, but of course, another backup progs are such suitable... either of them will do it!)
For example one of these builds blew my Sense 2.5 sky-high, and unluckily I didn't do a system-backup before I had tried the ported Froyo build out. As a result, I had to modify and customize my Sense again...
And according to my friend, due to an Android build, his 3G-data connection setup has also been laid down... so be careful, for all that that the most of these releases are "harmless"!
UPDATE (updated at 07/19/10):
For example I've just tired this build: "New Froyo build by dan1j3l V1" (description and DL link can be found here...), and it works very well on my HD2! It is fast, smooth enough, all of the wireless connections are working (just like BT, Wi-FI), and so on... worth a try!
IMPORTANT UPDATES AND FAQs
Q: Some people asked me how could the sound working without starting CLRCAD manually...
A: The Jmz dual-boot application automatically starts it, you needn't do it manually!
Q: Why is it not necessary to run "(z)haret"?
A: The answer is the same: the Jmz automatically does it...
If you have still have issues with the Android builds (e.g. with the backlight), try out these tweaks:
- To prevent your device from freezing when it tries to sleep, set the screen's timeout to 30 minutes in the ANDROID settings!
- Turn off "Automatically adjusted backlight" in the WinMo settings (or in the Sense 2.5 settings, makes no difference), and set both backlight option to 100%!
- UNCHECK the "Dim backlight if device is not used for XY minutes" option, and "Turn off device if it's not used for XY minutes" as well! (At the "On Battery Power" or "On External Power" section, it depends on what power-option you'd like to use your phone in...)
If your build doesn't show, or shows wrong the battery-meter (e.g. your battery is fully charged, but the build shows a "?" mark insted of the precentage or ask you to recharge it, etc.) (... and if it's not able to handle it), download this file and copy it into the root of your SDCard, and replace the original with it!
DOWNLOAD (FTP Mirror)
Unconfirmed tweaks:
- If you are able to run the builds in no way, try to format your SD Card in FAT32 filesys. It answered the problem for some people...
- In theories, HSPL is needed to run the ported Androids, but this assertion is unconfirmed at the moment!
not being funny but shouldn't you have posted this in general as android isn't exactly a theme is it ?
Not it's not a theme but the other half of the thread section is Apps. I take Android as as App when it's not a flashed OS.
just installed android using this guide, very helpful so thanks.
im using 2.2 Froyo build by dan1j3l and it seems to work very well. data connection seems slower then on WM, the battery meter doesnt work (and i cant charge the phone or connect it to the PC) when the phone goes into standby, it keeps the backlight and buttons on. also have the issues that many users are experiencing with calls. also when i reboot into windows mobile, the time and date reset!
just to help people out that maybe dont have much experience with this (such as my self) maybe you could add things such as radio ROM requirements, and perhaps a list of things that arnt working accross all ROMs (i think the call issue would be an example of this). you can find it through searching, but its nice to have it all in one place
if it helps i think you need radio 2.08 or above but not 2.12 (2.11 is the latest radio that works), as well as HSPL installed. the 'green screen' seems to be a big issue, but i just removed the battery and re-inserted it and it worked fine

if you are using any of the android builds ie dans froyo or desire there are a couple of different zimages that you can replace in your android file. these will sort out the dimming isssue and have camera working, calls are perfect on my 2 different versions although 1 has accelerometer & no camera and the other is the opposite way round, battery is charging and indicators are working but i havent tried all the zimages to say what else they have up their sleeve so to say.
In regards to radio it needs to be a min of 2.08.50.* mine is 2.12 and calls are clear as a bell although browser can be a bit of hit & miss at times, it is getting better as different builds come out so well just have to be patient til a rom is eventually released.
i keep getting a green screen after the drawling of the android , it will drawl the android a couple times before the green screen pops up and freezes and i cant find anyone to help me out , ive read the directions but the last pass 24 hrs nothing but a green screen
Excellent guide Kromosome !
But I have the same issue as matthewharmon102.
In plus my HD2 it not responding after going to sleep ...
I'm confident that in the next release some of this issues will be solved.
Thank you guys

Hey everybody!
Some people asked me about the instructions, so I've modified my guide, and I wrote some important informations into it, and I integrated a FAQ section (that will probably increase), which is worth to be checked out!
I've also written down what you should do if your device freezes when you try to awake it, or if your screen goes dull after the Jmz starts installing the "haret", and tries to set the Android OS up!
If you have issues (especially backlight-issues), don't forget to check it out!
Hail Everybody!
As we know the Android developers are working hard to make it run smooth on our HD2.
There still bugs here and there but for sure we will get this great thing smooth like our WM OS soon!
Keep up the great work!

A nice experience with froyo

Afters 2 monthes on windows 6.1 and 6.5 , i finallly came back to the excellent android, windows is so boring
I had give up because of bad development cycle with .32 kernel and a lack of news on polaris android forum and the abandon of martin
So I downloaded atools, compiled the last .32 kernel and installed
HTML:
Thoughtlesskyle's Not So Super Froyo [RLS18] [12/4/2010] Who Invited This Guy!
both on nand and of course the last but not least update.tgz for polaris
The first impression was very very good : everything was well sized, smart and faster than fast, wifi and bluetooth did work
After my first installation, i went to the market and i did a mass update of stock application : that was my first mistake (maybe because of odexed stuff... i 've never understood this that's a shame) - everything went corrupted after this point until a big crash of the phone
So i did a second attempt and after two days with this configuration, i've a very good feeling, good stability and not so bad battery life after having installed "Data on demand" from the market
The most important point has ever be the battery life for me (not this fuc$''(ng camera - kids !!) and i've noticed that sleeping state is very odd for month, sometime the phone is entering sleeping state, sometime not and this must be battery hungry
my radio is 1.45.xx.xx
Some credits : i want to thank all the historical from HTC and the upcoming Liquid who do so much hard work replacing marginz if i've all understood
I wish i had the skill to help the community but i know my limit, everything that i can advise you is to work on battery life
Liquid : what is the problem with battery life exactly ? is there a way to work on sleeping state ? on windows my phone could handle 4 or 5 days without recharging... i know this have been asked so many times
I agree with you...
Hi,
Yes, I totally agree with you. I tried the first versions of cyanogene and after versions of thoughtlesskyle (fat froyo).
I admit that this is the most stable version ever tested.
Many thanks also to all those who have advanced Android for us.
I use my phone for business reasons but I always want to test the latest versions but there, I stop for the version of thoughtlesskyle as it works perfectly.
Thanks to all Polaris users
Cheers.
My phone is also running on Thoughtlesskyle's Not So Super Froyo [RLS18], and so far it is the best release I've ever tried.
Big thanks to l1q1d, who helped me with to switch from WM6.5 to Android. Tools and threads are always updated and support is both fast and relevant.
Thank you guys.
The problem with battery is due to several fatctors:
Radio firmware is not designed for android so it doesn't handle connection correctly
The sleep mode is not handle correctly by the firmware so the sleep mode is only a low consumpition mode
The battery calculation alghoritm is not perfect and there is no information on windows alghoritmation
good explanation liquid
Do you think there's a chance for you or another to ameliorate the situation ?
... and gingerbread is coming

Did someone try gingerbread on polaris ?
I'm a little bit anxious about performance on our devoted device
I'm now trying Thoughtlesskyle's with data on sd, i have read that it can improve sd card bug and data loss on reboot; The fact is that i'm not convinced by system speed with such an installation
I'm not really sure system is well installed since i've read that you need a special rom to install on fat32/etx2/ext2
we can find everything and it's contrary on xda forum, that's annoyin and androidon htc site need to be improved
First experience yesterday :
- easy to install but I use with Haret
- fast and like the Nexus S... Hum...
- But a lot of problems : wifi ok but impossible to connect by authentication, impossible to access to date/time parameters, ... And when I reboot, impossible to get Android ! Just a lot of messages and that's all I've to reinstall again...)
I think we have to wait for a new kernel with this new build
I return to my Froyo by thoughtlesskyle
Cheers.

I going mad with my Touch Cruise. I just crashed it on the wall and I'm quite surprise it is still working...
I am experiencing lots of issues. It's so slow that the phone freezes from time to time. Even after rebooting, applications are crashing... because Android says that the SD card is missing (I moved most of the apps using app2sd).
I feel desperate because Android seemed to be a great OS, but not on a Touch Cruise.
I will try to chillout, and wait for new kernel releases and setups...

Thanks, I'll give it a go.
My telephone is also running on Thoughtlesskyle's Not So Super Froyo [RLS18]
I'll let you know if it works better (hope so!).
Hi everybody, I want to share what I 'm experiencing since last week. I made a BSE ( EDIT: using 1.0.6 atool ) flagging advanced mode then install system, fix permissions and clear dalvik cache and location system auto as well as data. In nbh editor I setted last L1q1d .32 fstab on auto. I have installed not so super rls 18...
Now in andboot I have a system.img and a data.img and here is my result : I have never had a reboot, no data loss and also I can turn off the phone without problem on reboot. I only must wait about 2/3 minutes before all is ready.
maybe L1q1d can explain what I have done?
I have a mirco sd class 6
P&L
It's quite interesting.
The answer is: you install both system and data on file on sd, the sd is quite fast so you can use it.

[Resolved] Flashing

What happens if somebody flashes (like a ROM) an Ubuntu image on an Android based smartphone?
Please write a response to my other question which is about to run an other Op. System on an Android phone without running Android at the same time.
I saw something like this a long time ago. The answer is that it won't boot, UBUNTU wasn´t design for an touch screen smartphone, there is a huge diference between a notebook and a cellphone. Second thing is that an Android need basically two system "structures" in order to function properly in one specific harware, you will need a ROM and a Kernel specially designed to a device so it can run properly.
So, if you search a little, there is an modded UBUNTU running on some Android devices... got to check...:good:

[Q] Titan not working correctly after forced update to WP7.8

Hi, I was hoping someone could help me!
I had a Titan which I successfully updated to WP7.8 earlier this year using the 78er tool. Unfortunately I dropped that phone and smashed the screen but my insurance company just sent me a new handset so, naturally, the first thing I did was attempt to update to 7.8 again.
I realise now that I should probably have let the default WP7.5 ROM fully update through Zune before running 78er but, alas, I did not. Now, since updating to WP7.8, some aspects of my phone's functionality are working fine but other aspects are not.
For instance I cannot access a variety of settings: the WiFi menu, the accounts menus (email, Facebook, etc), the lock + wallpaper menu, mobile network menu and others. Every time I select one of these nothing happens.
I don't know what to do to resolve this - I cannot re-run 78er as it tells me that it has already updated, so I can only assume that I need to flash an earlier (stable) ROM and then re-run 78er again. But, I must confess I don't know how to do this.
Something that puzzles me is that the OS is otherwise operating normally.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks.
[RESOLVED]
RESOLVED!
After some searching I discovered that this was due to my selecting the wrong language during the Seven-Eighter update (I selected US English instead of UK English). It seems this is quite a common problem and the solution was to use Cab Sender to send the relevant UK English files to my phone from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306415
I had to start from the first update and work my way through. It didn't start working until I had updated to "WP 7.8 OS UPDATES (7.10.8779.8 - 7.10.8779.8)"
Patience is necessary!

Quite a lot of questions about my OPO

There are some strange difficulties I'd like to solve but won't without help. The First one concerns actualisations - my current version of CyanogenMod is 12.1-20150914=NIGHTLY-bacon, soo the newest one. However I would really like to know why every two weeks when the new actualisations are available, there are always three of them? so with the one i installed came also ver 20150913 and 20150912, should all 3 of them be installed one after another?
2. Using google chrome my phone struggles to play a video from quite a number of players including liveleak, dailymotion and a few more I forgot now, if anyone knows how to fix it I'll be much obliged.
3. I think my dear friends is getting a bit senile =[ freezing once in a while (but still very rarely) and recently it rebooted in a very weird way - I got the black screen, android logo and suddenly it was on without loading (the whole process took about 5-10sec). Again the solution is greatly welcome.
4. Is the jellybean finally available on OPO? can't seem to find it
Huge thanks for all help, I appreciate it and wish you all best of luck, take care!

1. No, all three don't need to be installed, only the most recent one. I'm not sure why you're getting notifications for more than one.
2. Can't comment on this, I have no such issue.
3. There could be countless causes for this, it would be virtually impossible to give you a solution.
4. Jellybean? That's an old Android version, it's several iterations old now. This phone was released on KitKat (4.4.2). Why would anyone create a ROM based on an outdated Android version?
2. it plays a video and suddenly it freezes, sometimes the sound is still playing, sometimes the browser crushes but the video stays on my screen frozen and the sound still goes on.
4. I meant marshmallow, of course, i'm not good with these sweets names

Well Marshmallow hasn't even been released by Google yet. There's a port of a dev preview but it's by no means stable. Marshmallow will be officially released at the end of the month, then we should get some ROMs a while after that.
