How to install custom ROM on a locked bootloader - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello,
Im a happy owner of infinity and recently I have been really tempted to install a custom rom. However I would never wanna unlock my boot loader as I don't want to lose warranty. So here are a few questions I have:
1. From what I read, there are roms that can be installed on locked boot loader, is this true?
2. If yes for question 1, then can u recommend the best and most stable rom for locked boot loader?
3. Would I be able to reverse this operation and reinstall stock rom, in case if I need to send it to Asus for fixing?
4. If reversable, once reversed, is warranty still intact?
I appreciate and thank those who help me with this.

no, it can't be done at this time.

The first reply covers it all. You can't have your cake and eat it at the same time.

(Q) Just to be clear. Unlock bootloader= Voided Warranty?

Just got my TF300. Is there no way to do it without Asus knowing? Just want to be clear that this is the only way to flash recovery at this time.
Unlocked bootloader = void warranty.
Yes. if you unlock bootloader, you void your warranty
No way yet, some of us are working on it but we aren't there yet. And yes, unlocking is the only way to flash a custom recovery, but you can still get root.
Ok thanks a lot guys. Just wanted to be sure. Just upgraded today from a TF101.
I already have root as I wanted to restore some stuff with titanium. I'm cool for now as far as roms go. And thanks to anyone helping us get the bootloader unlocked.
but...
Is their any way to lock the boot loader back? i mean back in the mytouch days you could have s off and turn it back on
No, not with the way Asus unlocks the bootloader.
I thought doing a custom rom voided the warranty but you can do root without voiding the warranty?

Correct. Rooting is just taking administer access over the operating system. Unlocking the boot loader to installed Recovery/Roms will void your warranty.

Back to stock...

As the title states if I root my device is there any way to go back to stock and re-lock the bootloader? Gonna be rooting soon and I'm used to my nexus devices that you can do just about anything with. Thank you in advance...

As far as i know there is no way to undo the bootloader unlocking procedure.
If you only rooted your device without unlocking the bootloader then it's reversible by doing a factory reset.
Correct me if i'm wrong.
Wrong section - to... Q&A section.
To answer your question.
As your serialnumber will be sent to ASUS you don't have any advantage or disadvantage to revert back to a locked bootloader or a non custom recovery.

Unable to update to Jelly Bean

I have been checking for updates over and over for the past 48 hours and gotten no update. I have heard that this is due to the fact that I unlocked my bootloader, even though I did nothing with it after that. I didn't even root it.
Can someone tell me how to lock the bootloader or which file I need to download to go back to the stock rom? This is starting to annoy me.
Did you even read the warning when unlocking the bootloader? It says you void your warranty and are running non stock firmware and will not receive updates. You have to manually update.
Also, you cannot re-lock the bootloader.

My whole point is that I did not run non-stock firmware. All I did was unlock the bootloader. I installed no roms, nor did I root.
I have read that if I flash back to the .29 stock rom it will re-lock the bootloader and allow me to receive updates.

Even if you're running stock firmware, and not rooted, unlocking bootloader is still unlocking bootloader, and you DID unlock your bootloader, so you DON'T get OTA update. and there is NO WAY to re-lock the bootloader, even if you can re-lock it, asus still know your bootloader is unlocked, because when you used the bootloader unlock tool, it sent your tablet info (serial number i think) to asus server.
Sadly it is true no OTA JB for you.... but if your dead set on getting JB read this....

This.
And in Asus' eyes an unlocked bootloader is not stock firmware....even if it completely stock.
Also really flashing old firmware......if even possible......will not really lock your bootloader

maybe it started to download some ota update and hanged without you noticing, lefting you in "limbo" - check if there is some file in /cache (you should be able to see it with esfile even without root, but you need root to do any change) or some log

[Q] Tips needed to restore back to stock for a return / exchange

I have been saving my money for 6 months to buy my new ASUS Transformer Infinity TF700T. I bought it at Best Buy with a one year warranty. I was so happy with this tablet and got it all "fixed up" ( rooted / custom rom ect... )
Here is my problem. I just realized today that the headphone jack/port does not work. I have tried 3 different headphones that I know work, yet I get no audio from the tab once I plug them in. I am assuming that it is a hardware defect and not a ROM issue since the rom I use has no complaints about headphone ports not working. I am also assuming this is NOT a known issue ???
I guess I will have to take my tab back to Best Buy and try to get them to give me a new one. My main question is what should I do to the operating system to make it look like it was when I bought it, and not modded with a custom ROM. I did not NvFlash because I updated the software via ASUS by mistake. Here is what I have now:
Transformer Infinity TF700T
Unlocked: ( via ASUS utility )
Software Updated via ASUS: V10.4.4.18 (Official JellyBean 4.1.1)
Recovery installed: TWRP v2.2.2.3
Rooted: Yes
Custom Rom Installed: Baked Black Bean 6 [JB 4.1.2]
What are my best options to make this thing look untouched ? I know I can not "lock it" but un-locking it does not void any warrenty that I know of. But I think I need to unroot and maybe flash some stock ROM ?
Thank you for any tips, help or support.
Cheers
.
I would flash back a stock ROM, make sure it is flashable by a custom recovery though!
This will also unroot the device so you shouldnt worry about that. Last thing I would do is make sure when you go into the store you bring in a pair of headphones along with the tablet already booted up so they dont have to reboot the device. If they do reboot the device they have a chance of seeing the "This device is unlocked" message. Most likely they will have to do a factory reset which will require a system reboot but hopefully you can slip by.
For future reference when you unlock your device you break Asus' warranty however I dont know how this would effect the warranty on Best Buys end. Good luck hope you get a working tablet!
IF the headphone jack is your only issue I would try some other headphones. Yes I read you had already tried 3 pairs. A lot of head sets have molded plugs and that can present problems to devices like the Asus as it's not a surface mounted jack as there is some of the TF's case surrrounding the jack. This often prevents molded 3.5 plugs from seating all the way into the jack. I used a xacto knife to trim off some of the molded rubber on my head set's plug to get it all the way in the jack and then it worked fine.
Just a thought....

Thank you for the tip ( no pun intended ) .... but it still wont produce sound via the jack (
mj23kb24 thank you for your suggestion on how to best revert my Infinity back to some what stock. Couple more questions tho to anyone that can advise ...
1) I thought ASUS did not void your warrenty for only unlocking your boot loader. Rooting and custom roms I understand would be a warrenty breaker ... but unlocking your loader is also ?? Don't they supply the tool to un-lock in the first place ?
2) I am use to other tabs were I can pretty much just flash a *custom* STOCK rom that will look just like it came out of the box. I do know that this tab can NOT be re-locked and that it will show unlocked at boot time. Is there a tutorial I am missing here to revert back to a un-rooted stock (custom of course) with all the bloatware and ASUS crap ?
Basically out of the box looking but un-locked.
Once again here is what I have:

Recovery installed: TWRP v2.2.2.3

Unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty - it even says that when you run the bootloader unlock app. Yes, Asus supplies it, but it's an "at you own risk" type of thing. As soon as you unlock, your warranty is void (the app sends your tablet info to Asus immediately, so they will always know you unlocked).
It's actually the other way around - rooting does not void the warranty (you can unroot), but bootloader unlocking does void the warranty.
There is nothing that can be done to get rid of the "The device is unlocked" message when you turn it on.
You can revert back to stock, unrooted ROM (from Asus website), but the tablet will still be unlocked. Not possible to re-lock it. Period.

Ok I understand. I guess my next question would be how do I dump TWRP and get the stock recovery back so I can flash stock ROM ?
Thanks
Does anyone know how to get back to a stock recovery ? I have TWRP installed at the moment.
If I flash a stock ROM will it also flash a stock recovery ?
Principally, yes.

[Q] Novice- Need help installing ROM

I've successfully installed a custom ROM only once before, on my note 2. I barely use my Transformer infinity becuase its so damn slow so I thought I'd try a rom. From what I understand CROMI-X is the best.
My problems are three fold:
1) I only have a mac and can't find any simple tutorials for mac users
2) I have udated my softwarre on the pad, now running 4.2.1 (build number 10.6.1.14)
3) I dont understand the difference between rooting and unlocking the bootloader
Any help would be much appreciated. Apologies for my ignorance.
Unlocking the bootloader is irreversible and will cost you your warranty. You have to use the official Asus Unlock tool since the BL is encrypted and only Asus has the key. Unlocking enables you to install a custom recovery and custom rom.
Rooting only gives you access to the root level of your file system, enables you to tweak the stock rom somewhat, but doesn't help much with performance.
