Well tmo has decided to go back to unlimited plans at 30$ a month been out for almost a week just letting you guys know. Only catch is they don't allow you to tether but lets be honest who keeps their phone stock... Still get to tether with my custom rom!!!

I know right... Got a personal call from a tmo rep. Wasn't happy about that but was happy that it was true and costs the same as what I was already paying
Was launched September 5th.
Do you think Simple Mobile will work the same? Without caps?

I doubt it since they are a spin off of tmo... Tmo still offers regular plans along with this one. Plus simple mobile is already cheap like cricket or h2o so the only way they could make money is off data which IMO is completely fair...

The question you should be asking is why do I have a smartphone and not use it to its full extent.... With my phone I can do everything that I can do on a computer its just that its mobile and easier to do stuff on the fly. Tons of internet use and downloading sensations horribly huge roms.... Other phones rooms are usually Max 200mb with gapps not complaining but lots of internet use...
Yeah, maybe its since I use my home Wifi.

Yeah most likely why. I stay off wifi even though I have access to it most of the time just cause tmo data is usually faster lol, plus Pandora uses data and I listen to that a bit. Lots of emails and other little apps that soak up data lol 1.87 gb used and bill cycle restarts 10/05/2012

That should be available for a good while. Just to warn everyone on the new unlimited plan,: I did read some where a while back, that if the network does ever get clogged, priority will go to those on the 5gb and 10gb plans

CS and Store personal will tell you anything to sell you a phone, I wouldn't hold my breath. It will come in time though. Hopefully the hype of "4g" wasn't the only reason you bought the phone. If it was, you should return now.
i do live in a 4G area but spend most of the week out-of-town on work, sadly in non-4G areas. i'm struggling to decide if i really want the tbolt given that i will only have true LTE access on the weekends. sometimes i feel it would be better to wait until where i am working has 4G as well or i get assigned to 4G area projects. hmm....
You still get to take advantage of the simultaneous data + voice if that sort of thing interests you, I think..
Look at the bright side, you'll be grandfather in if they decide to change to tiered data, when it does finally come to your city.

I thought that too, but the "grandfathering" is only good for your contract term. Please read it when you have a chance. Two VZW managers confirmed this. Will they do it (cut off unlimited-who knows?), but they can if they want to.
I live in Seattle and travel a LOT... most of my locations for routine travel are on the 4G map... Guess I'll get to compare Seattle speeds to Cincinnati next week.

Bunch of bull dude. Do you think or do you know? Don't believe everything you read. I been grandfathered on my unlimited talk $45 dollar plan for 8 years. My contract runs out, but nothing changes. When I grab a new phone the reb just starts up a new contract with my grandfathered one.
Also when you're contract runs out, and you don't do anything or upgrade you're phone your plan will continue the same way also. Here old screen shot of my plan I still have.
I have another friend that has a 10 unlimited data plan, and he's had it for 6 years.

The only time you lose a grandfathered plan is when you switch to something that is not the same ability in VZW system. IE: going to "Iphone data" stay on an android and you will have same plan as long as you don't change it.

As a former Alltel/Verizon manager, I'd like to throw my two cents in. Per the letter of the contract, Verizon does have the ability to remove your unlimited data after the contract ends. With that being said, in my 6 years in the industry I have never seen it happen. We had customers on $20/mo unlimited minute plans who had originally signed on with GTE. As long as you don't initiate the change, you're fine.
The only exception (which I think was mentioned earlier), is moving to a different class of device. For example, a data plan for a feature phone won't map over to a new smartphon, etc...
Hope this helps!

where did you buy it from? I told all my customers in portland that 4g is only near the airport and is slowly expanding/being turned on. The vzw account/data manager I spoke with said you can get it 3 miles outside PDX and it is being turned on in other areas.
4g isnt even a buying point for me, I am not in an area and most likely wont get it for another 1-2 years, I will have had at least 4 new phones by then. I bought this bad boy for the potential in it. Its all great hardware and by far the best support from xda over any other company. If the G2 is putting down 100 mflops I cant wait to see what this can do once its all tuned up.

Yeah your plan wont change if you upgrade, if you have unlimited than you will always have it unless you tell them to change your plan. But once you have them change your plan, i.e Data from unlimited to a peak plan than you can never go back to unlimited unless you switch to sprint.
I have a G2x and I have the TMobile $30 unlimited text and 5GB data plan with 100 minutes. I never go over 5GB so it's like I have I unlimited since I never get throttled SMS it's like I have unlimited calls since I use Google voice voip apps to get free minutes. I use either talkatone or groove IP...both are great and work great as long as you have wifi or 4G. This is the cheapest and best plan I have found plus not to mention it's prepaid so I'm not even in a contract.

I have this same plan also but i do it a little different then you. When im at work (can t have cell at work) I have google voice forward to my work phone. When I get home I use the obi110 connected to a regular phone to make and receive calls.
If I am out and dont have good 4g, thats when ill use my regular minutes, and if I do have good 4g ill use talkatone or groove IP. both apps in my opinion need some work.
I have mobilicity $25 unlimited talk, text and data plan. Thou data sucks but still hovers around 2 mbps
I have that same plan from T-Mobile but kind of wish it had more minutes. Coming from VM's unlimited everything for 25 with 300 minutes, I feel kind of restricted.

Ok guys, well here's a little background. I sell cell phones. When you get a Pre paid phone your renting your service from the tower. When you go into contract you now have full range of the tower. Think of a glass of water about half full, thats pre paid. Completely full is you contracts. Contracts are mostly for people with more then one phone. For example, I pay $100 a month for 2 smartphones with 1000 minutes, unlimited text, and 2GB of 4G data and then its throttled. Here's the best part, I'm usually on wifi so i never go over my data therefore I'm never throttled.
As far as prices go, pre paid will save you money, but aren't very reliable when in an emergency situation. Also, as food for thought, VM runs off Sprint towers. So if you have a dead spot somewhere blame sprint not VM.

Yes it takes up data and no you can't switch. You must start a new account with a new number in order to get the $30 plan. Also I'm not sure how much data per minute a voice call takes up but it shouldn't be that much. Probably about 20—30Mb per hour maybe more depending on the compression

I'm not saying this is for everybody but where I live I get great TMobile reception and fast 4g so I choose not to pay extra for minutes. the 5GB of data is what I'm paying for kuz at the end of the day anything you need to do on a smartphone can be done thru data. This plan fits me.

Data is a concern too but I don't need super super fast network. But in some places my data had problems where as my buddy has sprint and doesn't have problems. Thats just it though. Between sprint and T-Mobile, you can unlimited everything for next to nothing. Sprint prices I don't know, dont sell them, but people with sprint have been moving to ATT for better service and to T-Mobile for better service while still spending less. Tell you parents sprint is a no go if they want to be able to go places and still have service.

That's exactly what they want you to do! They're making sure that they have the bandwidth to support the 4G iPhone when it hits the street.

Well, this will probably be my last year on verizon .... Unless I figure out a way to keep my unlimited plan. I wonder if I buy a new phone off ebay and do not upgrade through vz if they would drop my plan anyway?

I have acquired my last half dozen or so phones from Craigslist (even though I am eligible for an upgrade). I have not (yet) been charged for changing phones. I was able to get away from being 'throttled' this way when I got my Charge off CL for $125. Vzw even gave me a SIM card. I plan to continue this until they force me into some ridiculous fee/plan structure; at which time I will go to Sprint.
I hope ATT will get their LTE network up to par by the time my vzw's contract expires. Then it'll become an apple-to-apple comparison between the two of them, so, with no unlimited plan advantage, who cares anymore. I'll be jumping ship if I have to to get the coolest phone from whomever carries them.
Shammo? Jeez, even the guys name is "sham".

Looks like you can keep your unlimited plan so long as you do not use an upgrade.
That unlimited metro pcs 4glte plan for $70 total per month is looking awfully tasty...

The problem with these guys though is that they have craptastic phones with like no dev community... otherwise I would jump right at them
Hmm i think the real reason they are doing the whole data share thing is because ICS can stop data usage once you hit a certain amount so it foolproofs overage charges... until when you don't have a personal data limit anymore but a shared data limit
My theory is that they are getting ready for the influx of new LTE users that the rumored LTE iPhone is going to bring, because that is going to bring a ton of new LTE traffic in a very short period of time.
Upgrade now or wait?
I have 3 upgrades coming in the next 2 months. I want to use one for galaxy S3. I got a smokin deal right now for Galaxy Nexus. Don't know if I should wait or take nexus?
The reason why Im asking is it is my understanding they are planning to force us to shared data at upgrade... right. Should I upgrade all 3 or take just the nexus or sit and wait? What do you guys think
What's the best way to tether without getting "caught"? Is it safer to use an app (FoxFi for example) or can I do it right from the settings menu? https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2812516
I've read that it's hardest tell when your tethering through Bluetooth, is this true?
Buying a plan that supports tethering is the best way, because there is nothing to catch. Not buying a plan and hiding tethering is tantamount to stealing

I don't see it that way at all. I'm paying for unlimited data.
unlimited: not limited or restricted in terms of number, quantity, or extent.

You're paying for unlimited data from a mobile phone device. The data you download from a phone is different to what you download from a computer, hence why tethering costs extra. Whether you feel it should be truly unlimited or not is not relevant. It is not included so taking it is theft. Simple as that, whether you see it that way or not.
if they don't catch you at first, they eventually will. what provider are you with? T-Mobile include unlimited tether with all their data plans except the unlimited high speed data plan, where they include 3gb tether with that plan.

Read the fine print.
Full speeds [4G] available up to monthly allotment; then slowed to up to 2G speeds for rest of billing cycle.

that's not fine print.. if you buy a plan that only includes 2gb, than that's all the high speed data you will get, but tethering is included regardless. I have an unlimited high speed plan, where 3gb tethering is included(and I never reach 3gb tether, as I don't have a computer, I only tether my other android devices).
Where are you getting that from? I'm referring to the microscopic text found on the bottom of this page:

Lol. I can assure you that T-Mobile doesn't offer unlimited tethering.
All high-speed data options on T-Mobile's Simple Choice Plan all include Smartphone Mobile HotSpot up to their data limit, except for the Unlimited 4G data option which includes 2.5GB of Smartphone Mobile HotSpot.

"unlimited" tethering only for the lines with limited high speed data. with unlimited high speed data, they offer 2.5gb with the .5gb that automatically comes with it(3gb total) without charging for it. if you want more, then its pay.

That's HIGH SPEED, which if you read his post carefully, he said all EXCEPT high speed.

Nonetheless, I still find it funny after using your 4G data allotment, that T-Mobile doesn't even allow you to have 3G for the remainder of the month, Nope. Instead you get 2G with a blazing fast speed of 0.3Mbit/s

why is that funny? other providers will let you use nothing after you use your allotment of data. at least T-Mobile let's you surf the web and apps that need data. sure, downloads suck, but regular web use still works fine. anyways, I do not worry, I pay $70 a month and get unlimited everything, including the 30-40gb data I use monthly.

It's funny because T-Mobile uses allotment and unlimited in the same sentence

OK, I can see there's no seriousness about you, so I'll just stop after this post. data never gets shut off completely, so technically its unlimited. you only get allotments of high speed data, whatever amount you purchase per month. allotment and unlimited are used for two differing things.
