I am worried about this thing...mine tab is getting hot even by simple tasks like internet browsing...is it normal?what is normal temp of tab?also suggest any app to measure temperature....
I know it is asked before but still i am posting sry for that......

-Do you live in hot areas?
-Do you use overclocking?
-Do you play alot HD games ?
-Do you see any side effects of heat as reboots or freezes etc?
-Are their many background processes that case overheat?
-As i know the heat protection is built in the Omap architecture (the processor) so do not worry, if it overheat, the tab will reboot
-May be try custom rom as cm10 from www.teamhacksung.org it does not have much background processes as it does not have the bloatware of stock roms so may not cause more cpu cycles so no overheat
-Try setcpu may be have temp monitoring

yes i play hd game a lot.and about background process i kill them all...
And till now my tab freezed/rebooted one time since i bought it(and i do not think it was due to overheating).
I know it get hot while playing hd games but it get warm even with little internet browsing...
Regarding killing background processes, they may return again after killing them immediately, in fact may be the task killer is causing this overheat ( kill load kill load etc) so remove or freeze apps that cause this background processes or better use custom rom or stock debloated rom

no i never use task killers(they sucks...)
i do not have any unnecessary service in app manager...
It's normal it overheating, and it's normal because it hasn't any type of holes for the air in the rear plastic cover
The first time I see it was 41°C with stock ROM and some basic game and i was surprised, but now, with cm10 is the same (37-40°C) I think it's normal after some weeks of tests
My friend have a galaxy S2 and it go over 37°C and sometimes the rear metal chassis for the photocamera is like a heatsink

I'd like to try my hand and want to know where to start. The most appealing ROM for a base seems to be RAGE 3.6, so I'd like permission to use that, if possible. I'm thinking I'm going to try to go for raw power, but use CPU governors and gpu UI rendering to provide respite for the battery when serious operations aren't taking place. I'm not asking for 60fps in a DS emu, but going more than 3 months of use with 150+ apps should, in my book, not be cause for tangible lag.
Go for it

Ever since I upgraded to ICS, RAM consumption is high in my atrix2. It used to have free RAM around 300 to 350 MB but now in ICS the fee RAM is always around 150 to 200 MB.
I am having same apps which I used to have on GB. Nothing changed on my phone. Can anybody advice me whats wrong with my phone?
Ex. Games like Temple Run are little bit sluggish in ICS whereas it was running smoothly in GB even though I had some apps in the background. Now in ICS it is sluggish even though there no other apps running in the background.

Android has its own task manager, which is quite sufficient. What people don't seem to understand about RAM, is that it is meant to be used, not the other way around. Android, like Mac OS and Ubuntu, wants to use all the RAM it can, because that's how it was designed to work. There are settings (in Android we call them "minfree" settings) to tell the system how much RAM to leave free and available, but the rest is designed to fill up as fast as possible and stay that way.
Android can manage memory rather well (and the settings are still there to tweak if you just have to touch stuff) and having up to 300 percent more RAM makes a huge difference. There will be a few times where killing off a handful of tasks will speed things up, but overall you'll get the best performance out of your phone or tablet if you stop worrying about it and let Android be Android. If you need to live on the edge (and I know a lot of you guys do) root and hack your phone with some amazing custom ROM that has everything tweaked and allows you to travel forward in time -- I'm right there with ya, 'cause it's fun as hell.
But don't worry about how many apps are running on your phone, or about using widgets that tell you these things, because it just doesn't matter anymore.

Long press home button, it will appear. Swipe to close apps.
Try with debugging mode enabled along with force GPU rendering from settings...
Task managers/killers are completely useless in android. The only use of task killers is when a rogue app keeps running in background consuming lots of CPU cycles.
After the ics update my phone too was a bit slow but then I factory reset it & then wiped the cache partition. I don't know what did the trick but it works great now.

Go to development, background applications, at most 4.
This way lag will stop.

so i have been thinking about an idea that will help us get rid of both
and i have come up with this since the big little arch. isnot working right (probably not working at all )
we need a kernel to stop the small quad core cpu totaly
and to under clock the main cpu to 1.2 ghz
this way we get rid of over heating and lag
and all we will sacrifice is small performance (lol will be on par with the i9505 maybe )
so any ideas ?

no at least no news website say they adress it
some people say go replace but still dont work
My i9500 rarely heats up, much better after the mdk update
On the ME1 firmware, there is heat but like any other phone and only under heavy usage.
Also no lag, only widgets redraw after exiting some apps (Demanding games and the camera).
I don't have overheating issue a little bit of lag but it's random. i'm on MDK btw.
After the mdk update heating reduced a bit..
Now going for the me1 update.. but the download taking ages:banghead:

thats not a solution
media scanner should scan media files then it get cached and paused until copying some files or rebooting or mounting SD , when it become crazy and running all the time thats mean u have some corrupted files . ur mission is find them and delete them
so after the update the heating is the same as the s3 for example :?
if so some one post the temperature of ur phone after web browsing after 10 mins for example
and in room temperature ofc
You seem to have no clue about overclocking and cpus if you are saying the i9500 will be underclocked at 1.2ghz on the same lvl like the i9505

If you want to completely stop A15 cores then underclock (with any application ) CPU to 600mhz.
When people say they are experiencing lag, when are you seeing the lag happen? I've not really seen any excessive lagging apart from the slight glitch but no different from any other android device I've used.

i think u missed it. media scanner issue is there on almost all mobiles running android 4.1+ ,it repeatedly scans for files despite the scan being finished earlier and thus eats up cpu cycles/draining battery. no official fix from google yet.
with the raw power of cpu in s4 it heats up pretty fast than any other mobiles.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37199
you can use cooltool to check fo unuusual cpu usage.

I am opening this thread because I am going crazy with my tablet.
I have N8010. I installed Hyperdrive and then Zeus kernel.
I have horrible lag when opening apps. I mean the empty white/black/whatever scree while the app loads.
And the battery life is horrible as well.
I have tried to play with the parameters, but to no avail.
Do you have any tips or better - any good kernel parameters that work best?
On n8000 i had such an effect when using some custom governors i.e. ondemand. Maybe you should reconsider your cpu settings? In my opinion pegasusq gives the best effect, as it is designed for quadcores, other governors may not support the algorithm for hotplugging every core separately and the cores frequency are linked or some cores are disabled. Seems the default governor choice is the most common error of kernel devs.
Also, you should try to clear /cache.

Voltage control (free app):

Or
Set CPU (not free app) with governor on demand or interactive from min 400 to max 1400/1600 mhz if OC'd should fix that lag. Start up the cpu controlling app of your [email protected] boot up if your want that performance speed and make sure to set your screen brightness just halfway on the bar. That way your battery can't run out too fast due to your screen being bright. Also if you have too many applications running try uninstalling one's you really don't need and freezing some others you aren't [email protected] the moment. Some of our favorite apps with the nicest looking UI uses the most memory to run which in turn can slow down any android phone/tablet.

I would guess you have an app or some such process that is using up resources. I run RLS2 and it's smooth and I easily get two days on a battery with moderate usage.
I highly recommend "better battery stats" to help identify what's going on. The CPU tab and processes tab will show what's going on at any time. For example, I watched ESPN on the tablet yesterday, then put it down after closing the app. When I came back a couple hours later, I found that the screen was on and the tablet very warm. Better battery stats showed that the ESPN app was still running in the background.

Hey! I just purchased two 2600mAh batteries for my S4 along with a Samsung Spare battery charger. Now, my phone is rooted and is running a custom Rom and kernel. I am using Ktoonsez KT-SGS4 TW ATT Edition. now what I'd like to know, is (since I'll have SO much battery power) what are the fastest possible Ktweaker settings that ARE STABLE AND DO NOT EXCEED 2.1Ghz? Let's turn this into a competition. Whoever can give me their best and awesome settings wins. C'mon guys, let's figure this out. I don't want conservative battery settings, I'd like some beastly processing settings that will help TouchWiz with the lag it contains. Please respond soon, you guys here at XDA are amazing.

And just how are you going to determine if I'm more beastly than you?
Balance is key my friend... the whole point of ktoonsez' kernel (well more like his govenor ktoonservative) is power with battery conservation. Even with 2x 2600 you need some or else you will kill both in a day. I have an anker 5600mah battery and it is possible to kill it in a day just from screen use.

Stock kernel settings (Ondemand at 1.8 GHz or something like that). Yes, you heard me, stock. Overclocking won't do much for you at all. The other thing you're changing is the governor, which simply chooses when to ramp up the clockspeed from resting state. Changing the governor isn't going to get you more FPS on something, or really even much faster load times, for the phone will ramp up to full speed when doing work or animations.
It's fun to tweak and play with this sorta stuff, but really, you're really just gonna get placebo in terms of speed, and if you try to save battery through undervolting, you'll either have rather unnecessary performance loss or instability. Also, overclocking runs the risk of burning up the phone, and possibly destroying it to where it never turns on again all for something you can barely notice.
You really wanna speed up your phone, make things load quicker, and overall make the experience faster? Get Greenify and hibernate any apps you don't actively use (you'd be amazed at how much some background apps like Facebook consume.) Go into your Developer Options and set the animation speeds to 0.5x (or even off). Use a custom launcher such as Action Launcher or Nova Launcher that will help you access your apps quicker. Get the AOSP web browser, which tends to be faster than the other browsers. Just don't go overclocking your phone acting like that 0.3 GHz of extra power usage and potential instability is making any more than a few fractions of a second in difference.
