I think you should look into a battery saving app, such as Juice Defender. I can't vouch for others but I do know that Juice Defender even in the basic free form, shuts off the radio when the screen is off preventing your phone from searching for a signal when there is none, that also prevent apps from using data when you don't need them to.

ROMs with good battery life vary because it depends how you use your phone but ROMS i recommend are..
ParanoidAndroid
AEON 1.4
CyanogenMod 7,9, and 10
those are some of the many just look around threads.

Hi All
I've done a bit of reading and see a number of different kernels about.
Can someone recommend the best kernel for extended battery life.
I currently get 18hrs out of my G1 running Froyo by Lazlo.
Yesterday I used navigation for a 30minute trip and my battery went from 100% to 15%
Surely this isn't right.
Any help / suggestions are really appreciated.
Farmatito's kernels are the best I've used. They resolve the battery drain issues and extend battery life.

In my experience, stock froyo has the best battery life, if you don't count stock, cm7 with roq kernel XIV always worked well for me. People have also recorded great battery life on AOKP, but it can't watch 480p videos or record video with a decent framerate so I've never used it for long enough to get a good estimate on the battery life. Your friend is better off trying out roms until he finds one he likes. If you're doing it for him, flash cyanogenmod 7 and use djnoxd's kernel, in my opinion, that's the most stable setup.
U broke a forum rule though i may help you
1- Oxygen has been the most battery efficeient rom which also gives good performance and is stable thannks to popdog Lacks theme chooser though. but u may give up looks for battery and performance .
2-cm7 gives a lot of features battery life <Oxygen but u can theme it for looks
My suggesion try out all roms respect the devs
Well,the --RESURRECTION-- ROM is good.
It resolved my problem with small battery life....try it
PS: Sorry for my bad english,i'm Italian :|
Dont trust the guy above that rom isnt meant for battery -.-
Thanks guys
Well i see i broke a forum rule and that's why i edited first post
Ill try out those roms

I don't think this breaks rules because this asks a specific question
"What is the Best Rom" is too subjective
This is about battery life and battery life can't be tested because it UE took risky

fr nw i guess gingerblub n gingersnap r good at battery.. :fingers-crossed:
press thanks if helped..
I use Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 stable with DJNoXD's kernel (with CM kernel there are sudden battery drains) and battery last good, i'm not using 3g but if you enable it battery life is shorter...

Oh really? What If I say this xyz rom is better, and you feel its the worst in terms of battery?
It all depends on your usage, and I dont think the rom better for you would also be better for someone else.

I'm fixing a phone for someone. At first it was stock and crashed very often about once every 10 minutes of use, so I flashed cyanogenmod but the battery life is much worse. I just need a good stable battery efficient ROM and the other features like ICS don't matter much. Any suggestions?

Try them, and find out for yourself. Everyone seems to get different results, different preferences and different usage of the device.

The problem with that is that I'm not using the device so I can't test out several roms during the day and find out what has good battery life.

I didn't ask what's the most stable, battery efficient ROM on SGSII forum when my friend gave me a day. Flash a ROM, give it to your friend and see what he thinks of it, then if he doesn't like it then flash another ROM.
It's all about preference, you might like SCOM ROM (GB) but your friend might prefer CyanogenMod9 (ICS) more. But if your really looking towards battery life go for Gingerbread ROM.

You guys really can't just tell me what works for you or what you had experience with? I already tried to help once and it takes weeks before this person has free time to give me their phone to try and fix it again.
It's not like this phone has different hardware from all the rest of the galaxy s 4g's and they are dependent on the phone. They should all work the same so it shouldn't be such a big deal to ask for some measly suggestions.

Please state with reasons and what variables there are and what the tradeoffs are or you are talking out of your ass. Of course people's usages vary, but if you keep your usage constant while changing roms like you typically would or have a composite number than your can compare roms for battery life.
It's seriously not that hard to quantify which roms last longer on battery. This is ridiculous.
If it's that easy to you (may be?), do the testing and post the results. Document and publish your methodology so it can be peer reviewed. Please keep it up to date as ROMs are updated.
I look forward to your findings.

I just told you that gingerbread roms have great battery life.
There is no definitive answer bro. I dont get the same battery life as jeffsf or FBis251 on AOKP. And neither one of them get the same battery life. It really does depend on each phone and the users habits of use.
Im going ahead and reporting this thread because the community here dislikes these threads. They never end well and you have POHR people being belligerent .

As I've said before, usages vary but it's pretty reasonable to think that some people have used a few roms while keeping their usage constant. What makes it frustrating is that the people on this thread spew some faux wisdom that it's impossible to compare which it isn't.
I've had pretty good battery life so far with HebMIUI when it comes to ICS. Of course, GB ROMS such as Valhalla Final, Valhalla Black, and Octane are known for the excellent battery life.

All of this is far too subjective. Try them and make your own decision.
Okay, So as the title says I'm going to Italy in a couple weeks, and I just wanna know what ROM can I put on here to give me the best battery life. Now I know I know it all depends on what I'm doing, but seriously I will be using my phone as a camera while I'm there, and occasionally using it with Wi-Fi to skype home and as a map at times using the standalone gps. So if anyone knows a combination that's good for that, it would be greatly appreciated, or if you have any suggestions they would be appreciated as well.
EDIT: If you could give me ideas that don't involve TW that would be even better considering that's why I got rid of stock.
Can't go wrong with cleanrom or synergy. Try to go for a stock ROM and kernel. Use apps like lux and greenify. If you're WiFi only (no data or calling) stay on airplane mode and turn on WiFi (yes WiFi works with airplane mode on) DS battery saver is also a life saver.

Thanks for the quick response. I would usually go with the stock ROM, but I can not stand it on the GS3 for some reason. And I never knew that Wi-Fi could still be enabled in airplan mode. How neat! However, what are lux and greenify?
Or just go on amazon and get the zerolemon 7000mah battery Haha pretty cheap too

just configure ur kernel with best io schedules and govs
also use tweake to save battry
use a battry saving app such as juice defender......switch off wifi when not needed or switch off other networks......may save a lot of juice
ohh and btw happy journey

Yeah, not really good with tweaking things like that. -__- But thank you! I'm pretty excited about it, but a little nervous because I've never flown before.

If you need a basic breakdown of tweeking go to the verizon s3 general page and hit the ktweakers one and they explain how to tweak but that's on with kt747 kernel

Both are definitely good suggestions, that ZeroLemon battery is a beast from what I've been hearing. I'd even toss in Beans Build 15 as well if you want an AOSP themed rom or flash a theme over top of CleanRom. Stability and performance are top notch.
TXBY417,
I wish the global travel options for this phone were available last summer when I visited Italy so I could have used GPS and calls. I took great pics with this phone out there lol Visit Milan and explore by foot cuz it's amazing!

I'll have to experiment with Beans this week then.. I've been using ParanoidAndroid, but it has some small bugs that I just don't want to deal with every now and then in Italy.
I'm going with my university, and we're going to Rome, Florence(with trips to Venice and others), Bologna, and then Milan. I'll be there for two weeks. I've heard so many great things about Italy, I just can't even explain how excited I am.
Hey guys! Digging out my old Nexus S since I broke my N4.
What is the best rom for playing ingress on? Performance + Battery wise? CM11 is really slow and laggy on the NS and ingress always freezes or can't seem to keep up!
Cheers,

Thanks! This really helped me sum it all up, I'm going with stock as it seems to score the best in performance and battery life, which is what i'm looking for!
Cheers,
Stock?.. did we read the same chart.. lol.. Though the jzo54m is really nice and it is virtually stock..
