Iphone 5 Getting Ready To Laugh At Th. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So all day today I was hearing the iphone Show Off Event. I couldnt help to wonder are they really going to blow my S3 away. Then they announced the Itouch. I was like "thats it". I couldnt stop laughing at all the people i saw with iphones. I even remmebered the people that said that when they get the iphone 5 I would be ashamed to own a S3. Now im getting prepared to rub it into their faces that yes people the S3 is the leader of the pack.
Please share how your going to enjoy showing of your amazing S3

Well im just gonna use my phone i couldn't care less what people think.

most people are amazed by my S3. AT&T, Sprint and Verizon stores are still having a tough time keeping up inventory. I have a friend that works at the verizon store closest to me n they keep running out. With the iphone coming out now, who knows how many more times that will happen tho

I'm not an angst filled autistic 17 year old drama queen so I don't give a **** about what phone somebody else spends their money on.

HOLY COW! Is it really necessary to start a new thread for every iPhone 5 comment. It is not like it is hard to fine the other 5 threads since they are all on the first page!
Damn you iPhone for ruining the general section of the S3! Now please disappear so we can can go back to discussing the S3. Wonder if when the S3 or new Android device gets released if iPhone forums get filled up with posts about it.

You know what...honestly...I was happy to hear the new iPhone had a 4 inch screen, that is until I saw it was narrow as ****. It is the exact same width as the 4/4s but with a taller screen.
Lame.

Omg I just read the dumbest **** ever. Cnet wrote an article on which to buy between the 5 and s3 a win/loss spec by special point system. Get to the camera and they give the 5 the win. Their reasoning? The s3 and 4s cameras are on par, and the 5 camera has to be better since its newer.
Now that's journalism there damn it!

Exactly. Since the i5 camera is newer than the s3 camera it must be better! Must have been an apple fan who wrote the article. Who can write an comparison article when he hasn't even got the dang phone yet?moron

To be fair, having owned an iPhone 4 for a few months back at its launch date, the camera on that phone for raw PQ far out does many phones on the market today.
My dad has the 4s and IMHO it takes better quality pictures, but is very limited in options. A side by side shot between his and mine I will loose every time.
To say the 5 will be better camera wise, going by specs I believe it, but you cannot say for sure until it has been tested.

My prob was he gave the 5 the win in almost every category without having tested the phone. I mean come on, really?!

Google teaming with samsung - fail?

I believe that new Nexus S will let the google down. I had many issues with samsung products in the past, and I saw glitching stock vibrants. What you guys personally think about it?
I think Samsung wants to screw over their current customers. Then again, I am assuming they are doing this because of the leaks.
Yay, lets mix freedom and complete control and see what we get.... It's retarded and the nexus name is forever tarnished.
I would have loved to see the Nexus line stay with HTC but let's face it, they didn't do a great job with the Nexus One. Crappy digitizer and failing power buttons...
Nexus supposed to be the Android of all androids... But with samsung it will drown. I think dead buttons is nothing compare to a brick, which Nexus S will turn for sure.
Galaxy S phones failed big time. Lagging like hell and freezing. Not to mention previous samsung phones.
I could be wrong too. Lets see how Nexus S will go. Maybe samsung learned the lesson.
Do any of you guys have the phone? Did you create a thread just to bash something you haven't used? I have mine OCed to 1.4 GHz, running stable with CM7. Everything is blazing fast, as lag free as reasonably possible, and I have quadrant scoring at 3700+. Let me know when you can beat that.

Used one for 3 days before wishing the world was flat so I could throw it off the edge. Even with the "new version" the fragmentation compared to the first version of windows phone 7 is just awful. After playing with it I cant find much if any difference from 2.2. If I wanted to throw money away like that I'd buy a vibrant on craigslist for 150, add a front facing camera, then use it as toilet paper that being the most practical use for galaxy S garbage.

Actually I heard somewhere that the Nexus line is suppose to represent "pushing the Android line and what to expect from future Android phones."

Nope, happy with WP7, boy it's great to not lag on the homescreen
The Nexus S is a Samsung product that actually works. They've actually put a lot more effort in the Nexus S than they have the Galaxy S, which is sad to see on many levels. With the build of the Nexus S, and the power of hummingbird, the Nexus S is what all Galaxy S phones should have been. My Moment was a brick in terms of build, dropped it all the time but nothing went wrong with it. But the fact that it had no real hardware support for openGL, was built on 1.5 even though 1.5 didn't support CDMA, and the network issues were so far up there, I'd have to reset my phone 3 times a day! I had to send it back 2 more times and the same thing over and over! Rooting wouldn't help either! So they try to pawn the Intercept off to me as an "upgrade." A smaller resolution that most apps don't support, a slower network, and no Amoled screen? That's not an upgrade. When I had my Epic, the build quality was okay, nothing close to what my Evo is though. But I was tired of waiting for an update that should have come stock on the phone! With a phone like the Galaxy S there is no reason is should have shipped with 2.1! I'm glad Google is the one supporting the Nexus S and not Samsung, because then the Nexus S would have been stuck on 2.3 for half a year after the next Android comes out. I wouldn't mind the Nexus S, but that would be the only Samsung phone I would buy now. After 2 that had terrible support from Samsung, yeah right.

Disagree with you a little bit there. I've got a Samsung TV, and Bluray player and both are amazing. It's their phone products that aren't too great. The Nexus S like I said, is what the Galaxy S should have been.
Samsung's hardware is amazing in my opinion.. Their tv's are the best,, and we saw it on our samoled screens.. I show my phone's picture to people and they are wowed... My vibrant is nice rooted on froyo.. But stock.... It's a piece of...
Thank xda for awesome developers.
samsung's software (touch wiz) sucks..
they don't release updates or keep their word.. They piss enough people off. But people keep coming back..
The nexus is saved by google. but honestly.. The nexus one set new standards on upcoming android phones. We didn't see much competition.. The nexus s came out.. With the same hardware we saw two seasons ago.. New standards? Na I don't think so.. instead we are looking forward to dual core phones.. 4g capable phones.. And to me the nexus isnt much of a difference from what we already had.. Cmon samsung! You should have surprised us with new shzz!
Still love my Vibrant though.. Just wish it was officially on froyo, had an FFC, perhaps some 4g capability... Psh.. I WISH! -__-"
Here I agree. I have samsung tv myself, and it is good. I also had their portable audio players, but they were bad. Nexus S has no sd card slot, 16 gb isnt bad, but what about powerusers? No 3G + support, full 4G coverage is still in the far future. Processor is still the same as in previous phones. No gig of ram. Its like a tiny upgrade of nexus one, not counting 4G and front camera. Oh wait, isnt back camera is 5 megapixels?
They should stop making dozens of models, and create 1 master phone, that kicks asses.

That's sort of what they do now. They have two basis for their major phones.
Hummingbird
or
Samsung S3C6410
They've used Hummingbird in all of their high end phones, and the S3 in their mid-low end phones, and their older flagships like the Spica, the Moment. It's used now in another Galaxy phone I know(Not sure which one), I believe the Behold II has the cpu just not clocked as high, the Transform uses it, and the Intercept uses it.
I have sold my Wave S8500 and Galaxy I5800...I have learned my lesson.....No more Samsung produtcs for me.
Bad quality hardware and bad software support (updates, etc.) and bad customer service.
Google is making a huge mistake here!!
put simply...samsung hardware rocks, but samsung software blows. they really need to dump touchwiz and start from scratch...but imagine htc sense running on a galaxy s...epic win
I own both a Nexus one and a Nexus S. The NS is by far the better phone. Sure the N1 has metal and looks great it is in no way comparable to the NS. No android phone out right now compares with the NS.

New iPhone4s...solidified my decision to switch from ip4 to beautiful Infuse 4g!

Despite my frustration with my Samsung's Infuse GPS, the fact that Apple is sticking with the 3.5" screen on their new iPhone 4s REALLY makes be satisfied I swapped out my iPhone 4 for a Samsung Infuse 4g.
My son's current ip4 looks like a toy compared to my Infuse and without at least a 4" screen I will NOT be tempted to return.
Hey, I own shares in Apple stock so I am quite disappointed to say the least but still very happy with my Infuse decision.
p.s. At least for myself, Miui on the Infuse really stepped it up a number of notches! AND...the GPS seems to be at least satisfactory for my use now.

Yeap! Same boring menu(apps, home screen, home button)!!!!!! Same Sh.....t!!!!!
My boss and some people at work were going crazy before the launch. They said the Iphone "5" 4S was going to be crazy. But I told them, watch, there won't be anything big about it and it's not going to be the Iphone 5, it's going to be the Iphone 4S. They did not believe me but when they saw the Lauch and Apple anounced the Iphone 4S, they looked at each other and looked at me, I had a big smile on my face. LOL. I even told them what the update was going to be before the Launch and how did I know this, My peeps at XDA. I don't trust anyone else but them. I was laughing at them, cause they said people were selling their phones and some were already making line to get their hands and iphone. HAHA!!!

(not to sidetrack this thread but to answer your question...
Right now it's the stock MIUI settings but also some of the other ROMS worked well (can't remember which but think the INFUSED one's).
Note: This won't make sense but I forced myself to quit using the "gps status" or "gps test" apps or mucking with the settings with lbstestmod or angrygps (sic?). Seems like , especially with the apps gps status/test ,that it would work for like a day but then get worse. So I quit using those apps. Occasionally after loading new ROMS I would clear data via lbs/angrygps mode.
So basically the stock Froyo on my Infuse (even returned one) was pathetic. On the newer ROMS, especially MIUI, if I don't mess with anything it seems to work consistently...I know, not logical.)

I have a Galaxy Nexus, and it's great! It's for Verizon tho' (Payment for flashings an Evo 3D to boost). I mainly use it as a Gaming system. It's amazing, the screen size makes up for a lot. I have Parinoid android on it, and SlideMe keyboard. Makes it perfect. Plus! You'll never have to worry about updates, or ROMs. Offical updates from Google are quick, and let's say there isn't a lack of ROMs.

I would go for the Nexus if you like flashing ROMs. The design is also notably superior.
However, the camera pales in comparison to ours, especially in lowlight.
Also, we have a keyboard.

It doesn't sound like you really need the Mytouch 4G Slide, so I would recommend selling and buying if you have your heart set on a Nexus.

I have both phones in my house. I have a MT4GS picked up off eBay and I bought a Galaxy Nexus for my wife, just so she'd quit complaining about her iPhone 3GS's data issues on T-Mobile.
MT4GS
I want to start by saying that the physical keyboard wasn't a big selling point. I was shopping for a cheap phone with higher end hardware. The MT4GS fit the bill nicely, I have less than $150 in mine.
I still running the stock ROM and I just unlocked my MT4GS yesterday, still in S-ON mode. I am planning to try a couple of ROM soon.
I love the camera app, available memory (especially compared to the Garminfone and MT3GS I've previously owned).
I'm ok with the stock clock widget with integrated weather.
I hate the dialer app, why HTC / T-Mobile decided to switch from offering Favorites to offering Group Texting is beyond me.
Galaxy Nexus
I love the cleanliness of the stock Android experience, but I'm still not thrilled with the dialer app.
I've already added another calendar app to mimic the iPhone's month view with agenda below.
I love that this phone is running 4.1 before most manufacturers have pushed 4.0 to their phones.
I miss the Sense like clocks, I'll probably install Sense Analog Glass Clock at some point...
I worry about the robustness of the design. It's just soo thin and light. Which may be ok in my wife's purse, but my phone is usually in my back pocket.

This is exactly the kind of info I wanted to know, thank you. To the op, sorry for hijacking your thread for a minute there.

Have you noticed S3 as the "it" phone now?

I've been on Android since release date of the G1 and it was always annoying to see EVERYONE with that other phone, but since the s3 has launched I see nothing but the s3! Off the top of my head I count 8 people with the s3 (myself included) and another with a note 2 and plenty more eyeing the s3. I have 1 friend with a 5 phone and even he is getting fed up with that but he doesn't like the feel of Android, blah blah blah. In fact I've only seen one 5 in public. It's a bit refreshing now lol.
Have any of you experienced this?
Edit: My friend just moved back to CA after leaving the army, both him and his wife have the S3 (upgrade from iphones) and I noticed my new manager has a blue s3 sooo the count is up to 11. I'm still not seeing the 5 as much as figures would state.

I really don't pay that much attention but I have a friend who has owned every iphone, owns two Mac's and has an Apple sticker on their car (hipster) and when I took my phone out, she asked, "is that a galaxy s3?". I laughed and said yes. Changing apps on the home screen was amazing to her. It was like a person from the 1800's seeing a computer for the first time. It blew her mind. It was funny.

I live in NY where EVERYONE is on their cell phones during morning and evening commutes and notice the S3 just about everywhere now. To me, I see more S3's than iPhone 5's out there, and plenty are still on a 4s (including those I know personally).
I usually only see them at the gym but I don't really look when I'm usually out.

I've talked to many iphone users that mention the sgs3 and how they're thinking about the switch. I really think people are getting tired of the same old boring ios.
I don't know how much of an impact this actually had, but the S3 was the last phone unlimited data users on verizon could upgrade to at a subsidized price. I feel this added to the perfect storm that was the S3's rise to popularity. I see them everywhere.

Just messing with her. I got it for 98 cents on black Friday. Gotta make a profit.

I totally agree... I'm gonna start doing it too.. I was selling my old phones on eBay after an upgrade... Never thought about my wife... Now I just have to convince her it's a deal...

I don't think that was it. Majority of people aren't that concerned about unlimited data. I feel like most people had no idea of the new plans until they did actually upgrade. But it probably did make am affect for us techies.

@OP- Truth
I've never seen an android phone so whored out in all of my days

So true....I personally know 5 people who own an S3. Seems to be about on par with how many iphone 5 users i know. Probably less actually, a few of them still have the 4s. (only other android phone I've owned where i noticed the same was back in the OG Evo days, some of these people still own one)
Two other people i know had an S3 but thought the phone was too big for their hands. One was my gf who i gladly traded my G Nex to. The other was my co worker, who upgraded from a 4s. He said the size and the fact that he couldnt group message with his iFriends made him switch to the 5. (rediculous i know)
I was very close this weekend to purchasing either the Note 2 or the Droid DNA. I just couldn't do it. The Note 2 just seems too big to fit in my jeans comfortably. The lack of an SD slot and removable battery is keeping me from the DNA. Definitely made me appreciate the S3 more.
Ive noticed the s3 creeping up on the iPhone with popularity. Most of the people I know still own iPhones which imho is an inferior machine. Ive seen the note 2 become pretty popular as well.
I'm just glad that Android is getting such a popular light lately. I really love my GSIII, but I am not brand specific. Many iPhone 5 users are typical sheep to climb the iPhone ladder. I had an OG Droid before getting the GSIII, and it was a huge leap for me as far as hardware upgrading. I waited and waited for the perfect phone to have exactly what I was looking for. There were like 3 phones I almost got before I held on and got the Galaxy. Same will happen when it's time to move to something new.
I'm happy that Apple's reign is over, though. Android is like that girl you know on the side, but you had been chasing down all of the wrong girls that treat you like **** and only stayed for sex. Then you realize that one girl was there all along and you ignored her. You finally saw her in the light as the one who was by your side and waited for you, and you two finally connect that feeling of love that had been there all along. This is what iPhone users are starting to feel.
Samsung really has done something genius with these new ads they push out. That's what's pulling in the iPhone people.

I always disliked the iPhone. It was original and cutting edge when it came out and has done but make slight upgrades and pump out phones since then. Im glad people are finally getting bored with have the same phone with the same capabilities, and android which has constantly worked on its product is becoming more popular.
I have actually. Feels good
Only 2 people I have seen with an iPhone 5 are my aunt and friend from high school who are die hard apple fans. Like seriously. No reasoning with them. Both even think android copied apple by the pull down notification and that by having the ability to change anything from icon to launcher is too much freedom.
Its like then why are you living in america, Russia or China sound like the place for you.

Ever since the s3 came into my life I consume 4-5gb of data a month. I will never give up the unlimited data!
My brother has a 4s and it feels like a small calculator or remote ha.
And people that like iOS should come to android and use miui which gives a better iOS expirence!

I know what you mean lol. I don't think it's the it phone yet but it's getting there. I see it often when I'm out in public somebody has my phone and it makes me feel good. iPhone still the king but Sammy did great with the S3 series. Time to capitalize with the S4 next.

Skyrocket is an S2. Need to go to the S3 forums and ask there. And almost no one here will recommend you go to Iphone unless they hate you.

Its an interesting question and honestly there isnt anything WRONG with the iPhone 5, but it comes down to, do i want to spend $180 , or save that $$$$ and get something like the Skyrocket or S3 which is just as good if not better.
Im not gonna sit here and bash the iPhone because it is a good product, but like most apple products are not cost effective.
Save that money and buy groceries or something with it man.

My friend has an S3. He went over to his parent's house recently after his dad bought an iPhone5. They did some comparisons and then my friend laughed as his dad rather sullenly acknowledged that the S3 was easily the superior phone.
my impressions when comparing said phones
galaxy s=iphone 4
galaxy s2=iphone 5
galaxy s2sr=iphone 6?
small screens suck for a smartphone, apple should of went larger on their screens and to mention that we can mod the frack out of our phones.
people still cant believe how nice it is to view the browser on my sr w/the larger screen compared to their iphone 5, compare the 5 to the s3....fugetaboutit

Your just about spot on. I don't "hate" the iPhone, I just find that it is more of a child's toy than the rest. However back to the OP.
Keep the SR for now, wait until next quarter when "supposedly" the S IV is supposed to be released. However having both the S2 SR, and the S 3, I love the S 3 immensely over the SR.
xxsicknessxx--do you have an SR now, or the regular S2? If you have the regular S2, moving to the SR isn't worth it. If you already have the SR and are thinking of the S3, I would just wait and upgrade to an S4 when it comes out. In the meantime, root and flash a ROM on your phone. It will give your phone some new life, IMO. :good:
As for the iPhone 5, to each their own, but it would feel like a letdown for me if I were to move to that.
My gf S3 on stock ICS(haven't updated to JB as yet) is a bit laggy, but I have played with my friends S3 with a custom rom and it's definitely worth it. I personally would wait for the next waves of phone releases though. They are definitely worth the wait.

That's why I was suggesting to root and flash a ROM, especially if that ROM is JB. My wife also has a SR, and after putting a ROM in mine (CM10 stable), has no lag, while hers feels sluggish with stock ICS. A wipe/factory reset might help hers a little, but seeing the TW skin and all the carrier bloat turns me off.
Woah woah woah now. I stopped reading anything below the op as soon as gee asked about the iphone 5 lol...... Really op? Why do you have an xda account everyone here is droid nerds
