Block apps from accessing GPS and other permissions blocking - Asus Transformer TF700

I am looking for good permission blocking app, mainly to keep some apps from getting to gps location. But would love to be able to block other stuff too.
Similar to Droidwall would be great.
I read about LBE privacy gaurd but it said it was not available for my devices.
*i was not sure if this was a q&a or a apps forum item*

I would love to know which apps are accessing my GPS all the time. WIll these solutions be able to tell me which apps are accessing those things or do i have to guess and check for each one?

are you talking about avast mobile security? i've been using it for months but where can you block permissions with this app? you have the firewall for blocking internet access but other permissions such as GPS can't be blocked, or can they with some very hidden feature?

App level intenet lock

Is there an app that makes it possible to prevent specified apps to access the internet?
Some apps generate to much unwanted trafic while with others its a question of privacy and security. Would be great to be able to address both.

[Q] Webroot Mobile Security?

What do you guys think of this app?
http://www.webroot.com/En_US/consumer-products-mobile-security-android-phone.html
It's most obvious features are malware protection (does this even exist for androids?) and virus protection (again...is this an issue for androids?)
But what intrigues me the most is that if my phone is lost, I can do audible locating, gps locatins, remote lockdown, or worst-case, remote wipe from another phone.
I know there are other free apps that offer the above tasks...I was using wheresmydroid before, but then had to supplement it with other apps to get all of these same features.
Anyway, I know it's an expensive app, but I'm not too concerned about the $15/year. But does anyone have any experience with this app? Does it do all that it says it does? Is there a better alternative available?
I dont know about that app....i use Lookout and I get all that, back up and phone location and such, too...it also scans apps you download to see if there "safe"....i haven't had any problems with it so far...theres a free version and a premium version

I don't know about the app but I user their pc protection and its good. I will be getting this.
Thanks for the heads up. Didn't know they had an app.

Im using Theft Aware. It has all the same features and I know from experience it works very well. You should look into it.

[Q] Ad blocking on EaglesBlood?

I know some ROMs include ad blocking features, such as Bionix Relaoded. However, EaglesBlood doesn't (still a great ROM), but I want to know how to enable it. Whether it be by adding files, removing them, flashing, etc.
Anyone that can explain this to me will be thanked. Please help!
Ad blocking has to do with modifying the hosts file. I'm not clear on the details, but perhaps someone else will clarify.
I've had great success running AdFree on EB 2.8 and EB ICS.
Ad blocking is a hotly debated topic on XDA since some of the developers use in app ads as a revenue stream.
Now that that is out of the was, there are many apps in the Market that modify the HOST file on the device to send requests to ad servers to loopack.
One of the more popular ones is ADfree Android. You need to be rooted to use it since it changes the HOSTS file that on the system partition and is read only.

What?! There's nothing more awkward then showing someone an app and having it pop up with some random ad for 'hot women tonight' or some such. And I get that with both ad mod ads selected and deselected. I guess Google uses our SPAM boxes as a source.

[Q] Automated tasks?

I'd love to have my tab do a few things in the morning, such as start up my Kindle app and sync it, so that when I leave my house all of my newspapers are fresh. Is there an easy way to do this? Is this something that I'd have to use Tasker for, if anyone is running that on their 700?
That's what I use, Tasker with sl4a to automate quite a few tasks.

I'll need to root to use tasker, correct?
Any free alternatives like taker?
Also does app like this drain battery because they have to run in the background all the time?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
and.. Is it even possible to get tasker (or something else) to open a program then execute a command inside the program (like sync the Kindle app)?
I believe tasker can do just about anything, including push commands... But it is quite detailed and difficult to set up. Best bet is to ask a programmer.

It's not very difficult and there are many common "recipes" on the developer's website.
I can't recommend this app highly enough.

Yeah, I've already got it on my phone, and I use it for a few things, but I've never done something like opening an app, then having it execute a command inside that app. I'm not sure where to start. I'll check to see if there are any new recipes since I last looked. If not, I'll **** around with it and see what I can make happen. Thanks

I have mine working perfectly. I use either AdFree, AdAway, or the Ad Remover from JRummy's ROM Toolbox.
I read on AndroidAuthority that Google pulled them... thankfully I have Adaway installed I'll just back it up before wiping YAY but it sucks really bad they removed them...

It is now and its weird that they decide to enforce it here it is, they say ad blockers violates section 4.4 and here it is
Also they still work as long as the host sources are still being updated and online
though one of the sources has gone offline for some reason
4.4 Prohibited Actions. I first noticed that AdAway vanished from my app list in GP, then searched in GP for it and couldn't find it or any other ad blocker.
And worst of all I am now getting ads pop up noticed it on Shazam.
Not good.

yeah thats right, google have posted a statement at pastebin, most adblocker are not available anymore.
This BITES.
Just saw it elsewhere and came to post about it. My data plan was close to being used up and I hadn't flashed a newer CM10.1 since the weekend.
Not using titanium backup now, TWRP and Google have had my entire and app backups respectively the last couple months. The Google restore account has been working very well on 4.2.2. AdAware and my current fave aren't listed in "my apps" anymore.
Doubting that google will restore AdFree ever again.
If I can't find the .apk in my phone to save on the pc for re-install, how could I back-up this single program on my sd card or continue to modify the hosts file like Hosts MVPS on windows?
adward working

You might need to add more host sources, here are my sources. though one of the hosts is offline for some reason and that's why maybe some adds are getting through
So that's why I added more sources

Seems to me that it's time to shift to a less constrained repository of apps. Perhaps F-Droid and has it's own Android client. Not sure what else is out there
Of course "less constrained" means less protection from malicious behaviour so common sense has to be more strictly adhered to.
Meantime, these links might help.
AdAway
AdBlock Plus
Root your phone - Install Firewall- Create rules
Poof no more ads.
