Local Help, so cal - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

ok so i dont even know if this the right area to post this,
but i need some help flashing a new radio into my att skyrocket to use with tmobile. i have rooted the phone, but i am unsure of flashing the radio and bricking my phone. on top of that i have no computer to be able to do this. My desk top was fried by my son and my old mac lap top cant be used for this purpose.
i am getting the phone unlocked today and would like some one local to so cal, los angeles to help me accomplish this. i will travel to you and buy lunch if that helps sweeten the deal LOL. i'd like to be able to do this by sunday at the latest, so if some one is free and willing to help me and show me how to do it, would be greatly appreciated.
p.s. maybe i can even get some help flashing a new rom to et all this bloat off my phone and help my batt. i hope i have not offended any one by asking for in person help, i only have this one phone for now and can not take a chance of bricking it. thank you all

no takers??

Sorry bro, I'm down south in the 619

Wish some one was close. I need to figure this out, I need to cancel my att account and start using my Tmobile account already.

With your phone already being rooted, just go to a computer cafe and download the files and put them on your SD card.

I'm worried about not knowing how to back up the current radio and the new one not working. I'm sure once I see the process, I'll be fine, I just hate to take chances.

ok since there are no local takers, what would be the best radio to use with an unlocked, rooted skyrocket, running stock firmware and all on t-mobile? i have been reading threads on the Blaze radio, but then read something else on a different one LVE3(??) but i cant find the thread. i know every one os going to say to run a custom ROM but i am unsure of doing this and dont want to brick my phone. Like i stated worst part is i dont have a working PC to use for all this. I'm working on getting my old one fixed but wont be for a bit.

Depends on your area and what rom your running.
If you like Touchwiz then go with a Tw base rom. If now then go with a CM/AOKP/AOSP base rom.
Be careful on how you ask questions or this thread my get locked. Just try to re frame from making it sound like what's the best. Lots of trolls out there.

Many will tell you fairy tales ... T mobile with our SR is buggy at best , lots of droped calls and data problems .not to mention crappy upload speeds .... Sell it or trade it with s2 tmoble .
PS : and for your inquiry , no need to back up the radio , just flash a t mobile radio in cwm or twrp like the blaze radio for ICS....You might loose your IMEI in the process be careful(as some experienced)

ok i found the radio, its was the uvlg3 from a note for t-mobile. i'm still trying to find the thread but no luck.
if i flash the radio and i dont like it, what is the stock radio that comes with the SR? for att?

Wow! Seriously?

To begin im not rooted or unlocked and ive read through the stickies and pages at "solutions" but i gotta say this is the worst phone ive ever owned. I figured it would be at least on par with my old g2 or mt4g but they would smoke this paperweight on edge network. Ive factory reset, used task killer, rebooted, called tech support, and im about ready to committ cellular homicide and mail it back piece by piece. I know im not the only one here....who else wants to vent some steam by sharing a nightmare?

Um it would quite help if you were to explain the reasons why you don't like this phone? And it would also really help if you didn't judge this phone stock because when its on the stock rom, its a piece of sh*t. I almost ran over this thing.

It shouldnt have to be rooted to compete with the g2 or mt4g...this beat the iphone 4 in a speed test. This thing lags on every scroll and takes a good 10-15 sec to open anything you touch. This isnt the first one ive experience this with either. Tmobile hyped this up like its hot sh** but its just cold diahrea

If you are clearly having issues why not custom rom it? I really don't understand why are you refusing to do something that has SOO MANY benefits and zero disadvantages. Sounds like lazyness to me. Shouldn't even bother with xda if you won't even root the phone

My wife and I both got the SGS4G at the same time she had all of the same complaints and eventually caved in and got a different phone. I on the other hand came to XDA and got help and now I am perfectly happy with the phone. the Vibrant had all of the same issues and its a software problem form Samsung. I loaded a custom ROM and all of the issues I had are gone. the great thing about software is that it can be fixed. Hardware issues are another story of which this phone has none that I have found. It is possible to revert back to stock firmware and software so that its like you never did anything if you want to sell the phone later. So this is not the place to vent about how crappy your stock phone is it is the place to come and load the software needed to fix it.
I'm.with you... I miss my mytouch 4g. Such an awesome phone. So many roms. So fast.

Honestly this is like if you bought a Ferrari and it had a rev limiter set at 2k with the top speed limited to 10mph but refused to turn off the limiters. The limiters are clearly there and you can clearly turn them off but you refuse to and instead of fixing the issue, you complain saying that you shouldnt have to turn them off and your ford fiesta is faster.

I know that rooting the phone isn't simply going to make all the problems go away. I absolutely hated this phone. Then when the new gb roms came out and all the tweaks started pumping out, I actually started to like this "p.o.s". Well why don't you wait till you have a PC and flash a custom rom first before you go flaming away at the device.

i think ur saying stock=crap rooted=good....so you basically agree with me so far...we both hate it stock and when my pc is back up n running ill root and update my review when i got custom rom. But as it stands im at 1ghz slow as hell. And its like i said before i dont want to buy a phone depending on root in order to make it function like its supposed to. If the cpu acted like it was at 1ghz i wouldnt be slammin this p o s.

just a note you dont ever need a pc anyomre to cough root a phone and flash a diffrent rom at all all yuo need is root explorer and to start off the recovery from krylons cwm final and then the update.zip and then the custom rom or a few of them push the recovery record reboot install zip via update gets u to cwm and then install new rom never once haveing to touch a pc
and if your on froyo u can use the market and get root theres apps that work for that

You came here with the sole purpose of complaining about the phone and not showing any interest about doing anything about it. If you want to complain about how bad this phone is try doing it on the T-Mobile forums so at least people who are thinking about buying the phone might be persuaded against it. I fell into it by commenting in the first place and I overlooked the first rule of the internet...Don't feed the trolls.

seems the market app may have been removed sent u a link with one that will root any 1.6-2.2 android rom without needing a pc just make sure to pick 2.2 version of froyo should work
Part Four, is that you?
Anyways, I've actually played with my cousin's MT4G (3 cousins have that phone). I honestly wouldn't say that the SGS4G falls too far behind it.
My cousins always complain about the battery life, since they can't even get half a day's worth with the screen at the lowest setting. On the other hand, the SGS4G put up excellent battery life since I got it. I ran it with its first brightness setting and easily got a full day's use out of it.
Speaking of the screen, you can't deny that this screen is quite beautiful.
As for the stock speed of the phone, I kinda have to agree that the MT4G is slightly better. It's not ridiculously faster, but it is faster by a hair. On a more interesting note, my friends had a rooted G2 which lagged more than my stock SGS4G.

Ill give you the screen, it is beautifull and that was a big selling point .my battery drains fast and charges slow ive downloaded maybe a couple apps, my display takes 99% of my battery and its at half power if you can believe that. But a g2 that lagged worse? He should get mexdroid or pyromod and start blazing up and down the superhighway. Those were my fav anyway

But don't stay on a froyo rom. I didn't really like those either. The big difference is when you start using a gingerbread rom which you will need a PC for to flash the bootloaders.

I have two mytouch 4gs. The screen on that phone blows away the sgs4g. The only reason I don't use it is because the wife and daughter have taken them over and stuck me with this thing.
Mytouch4g running Faux123's AOSP rom gets well over a day with heavy usage. About the same as CM.
I like the sgs4g.... its what I'm stuck with for now... but its no where near what the mt4g has to offer.
Better camera. Flash. Better screen. Better wifi.
And AOSP.
This phone with every tweak and rom doesn't come close to the mt4g.
Sorry. But its true.

Your a funny guy BRO that would might work but I cant get any of my PCs to recognize my phone so Im not rooted.Thats why Im looking for a good trust worthy pay site to order one thanks for ya help though
Have you already downloaded the SG4G drivers on all of your PCs? It would be odd that not even one of them worked. You're best bet to getting your phone unlocked, other than from at home, is to call T-mobile and ask them for the code. I heard they will be hesitant to give it to you if you haven't owned the phone for at least 3 months though.
As for myself, I don't know any sites that do this, sorry.
Yes Ive tried drivers some reason nothing works I must be getting the wrong drivers I dont get it.
Try uninstalling the drivers, reinstalling them, then rebooting your phone and PC.

I really want to get this phone rooted so I can try out some roms.I sure miss the G2x was fun testing all the different ones it had
you have to buy a new USB plug! My original cable got hosed (dropped it in a parking lot...D'oh!) and I bought a new T-Mobile branded one from the T-Mobile store. Was $14 or so, which I felt was robbery, but it works like a champ. I've had no problems flashing ROMs or anything with it.
I just looked the cord over man Im dumb and feel really stupid right now lol Its a LG cord. They say when you hit 40 ya go blind

Is your phone working? If yes your bootloaders are fine and go return it.
I would use kies if you are going to return it... that makes it 100% stock... no questions asked...
Raver made a 100% Stock GB ROM. If you use Kies mini you will need to flash back to Pure Stock Froyo then do the upgrade.

I believe the sgs4g is still being sold with 2.2; therefore, it would be in his best interest to flash back to froyo and not do the update. Otherwise, Tmo might not take the phone back...
I am pretty sure it's ok to send the phone back with the updated ROM provided by T-Mobile and Samsung.

I wouldn't be too sure of that... Encountered a similar issue with my old blackberry. I updated it to 6.0 (supposedly bb's reply to android) but I found it had a battery issue. So I took it back to get a different phone (sgs4g) after having the bb for 3 days, and they wouldn't take it back. I had to downgrade it back to 5.2 in order for them to acept it... Has to be in the EXACT same condition as when you bought it per the Tmo agreement...
We have some people on here that sell phones... I bet they let us know.
Actually my phone came with 2.3.6 from a tmobile seller/friend i saw him cut open the seal to show phone, its quite funny he gets tons of customers but nothing is in his store like phone display and such just a desk or two.

You'd be surprised how many people don't know whether they can or can't. How long have you had it and is it thru TMobile?
I bought it off craigslist 2 weeks ago and it worked perfect for awhile so idk

Then you need to call HTC and find out who you need to talk to to find out if your serial number is still covered by the manufacturer's warranty. If not, it's probably something you should have done BEFORE you made the purchase. I could be wrong but it sounds like someone passed a hardware problem off on an unsuspecting buyer. BUT....it MAY still be covered and they didn't know either.
Isn't it worth a try?
Where can I find there number and can u get me it please?

This is their online "Warranty Statement". But it does conflict with the results some others have had doing a return. It COULD be that they returned it thru their carrier.

This is their website where you can directly e-mail the company with questions if you like.

[Q] Bricked? Can't enter download mode

I just tried flashing to the latest slim bean rom and when I went to reboot, the phone turned off. Can't turn it back on, can't get into download mode with the USB cable, battery out/anything. Is there anything I can do at this point? IT seems completely dead. Doesn't even show a charging icon when I plug it into the charger. I've had problems before but I've at least been able to get into download mode.
Any suggestions??
Doesn't sound good. You have no life at all in the phone? If not you're hard bricked and jtag is your only hope. You sure you flashed to correct Rom for your device?

yeah I've been tinkering for a while and never had this happen before. No sign of life at all. What's jtag? I was thinking of trying to get it replaced at at&t

Google mobiletechvideos. They can fix it for about 50 bucks

It's possible I installed something for i777 by accident Thanks. I will give that a try. Think I would have any luck getting it replaced at AT&T?

Are you still under warranty? If do its worth a try. Just play dumb and tell them it won't turn on.

Yeah, i have the extended warranty, but it looks like they want to charge $199 to replace it, regardless :-\. Guess it makes more sense to go through jtag.. are they legitimate? How long until I would get it back?

I've never used them but a lot on xda have and it sounds like good service. Typical turn around time seems to be about a week. You can pay for faster service.

Thanks for all your help. I actually have an extended warranty, but they wanted to charge me $200 for a replacement (which would probably end up being a refurb anyway). I sent it out to mobiletechvideos today and I'm hoping to have my phone back by the end of the next week. Better make sure I double-check what I'm flashing next time
Another side question - I tried flashing a few ROMs but I got errors during the flash (CM10, CM9) Do I need to have a specific bootloader enabled for those?

No. Don't have to worry about boot loaders on the i727. Just make sure the Rom is for it. As you learned, flashing a rom for a different device is not a good thing. Good luck on the jtag.
Read vincoms stickies in the development forum. They have good information on flashing. There is a lot of info there so its not an easy read but they'll save you a lot of headaches of you go thru them.
Edit: what recovery were you using to flash? If you were having problems out its probably an older version. Check that you have the latest. I've had good luck with twrp 2.4.4.0
