Notification LED - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Does anyone actually use it? I've had nothing but problems with it. The CM notification manager works for maybe 1-2 notifications and it stops working. Lightflow tends to be the same way unless I restart the app. I loved my notification LED on my nexus. Anyone have any solutions?

I'm running synergy and use it all the time, mainly for text messages, that way i can just look my phone and know if i have a text or not

I find it to be helpful, and use it. Running stock still, works flawlessly.

Works fine, other then GO SMS doesn't blink. Lightflow sucks, ate my battery up when it shouldn't be doing it. I would not have gotten this phone if their wasn't a LED, never would know I was called/texted.

Everything works for me, even Go Sms, when using Light Flow. The dev officially got the ins and outs working awhile back and I can modify my colors and see notifications for all my important apps. I've been using that app (full version) for a few weeks and I haven't had any battery issues with Light Flow.

lightflow caused battery issues for me
for about 2 weeks, my phone would not go to sleep as it would always be in partial wakelock.
i used betterbatterystats to get an idea of what was going on, and it pointed out that "alarm manager" was causing the partial wakelock. when i checked out the alarms, lightflow had significantly more alarms running to cause the partial wakelock.
i uninstalled lightflow, and immediately my battery life improved. the difference was huge.
but that was my experience. some people don't have issues with light flow, so give it a try and see how/if it affects you

I had entirely forgotten about lightflow. Used it on my Droid X. But never on my Bionic. Totally forgot I even paid for this app. Thanks for the reminder. Works great. GoSMS by default would mess up the LED color everytime. This makes em proper. Good call. Thanks to you

Light flow was working great for me for a few days last week when I first got it, but since yesterday, it's been keeping my phone awake the entire time and was killing my battery so I uninstalled it. My phone is sleeping normal again. I've just reinstalled it again to see if it'll work normal like before.

Yea, I've heard those issues as well. I was worried about that going into purchasing the app. I'm not sure if it helps but I have Light Flow set for night hours from 12a-7a so might that impact it in keeping my phone asleep? Just a a question I have for those who have tried and noticed battery drain overnight.

Do you know what your time since charged was? (I wish it would display total time since charged there...) The "since charged" definition seems weird and hasn't reset on my phone in ages... I've tended to use "since last unplugged".
Pandora appears to be your #1 wakelocker. eBay mobile seems to be pretty bad too.
NetworkLocation wakelocking can be eliminated by unchecking all of the location features in Settings except for when you want network location/GPS.

I assume you were listening to Pandora during that time, in which case, that wakelock is normal. Playing music from your device will also hold a wakelock when the screen is off. If you weren't listening to Pandora at all, then something is wrong.
Whoa. Why the heck is eBay holding that wakelock . Check your notification settings and if it's still holding it, clear its data and try again. Otherwise, I'd uninstall it. I always use the browser to access eBay anyway.

No. In the device settings, turn GPS off until you need it and leave network location checked/enabled. Go into Fancy Widget under weather settings and UNcheck/disable GPS location (GPS is unnecessary for weather updates), verify that network location is checked. Then, I would recommend changing your refresh settings (to update less frequently). I'd bet you have it set to update more frequently than an hour. I also use Fancy Widget and mine is set to 3 hours. This should take care of your network location wakelock (unless another app is also updating with network location).
BTW if Wifi is on but not connected, in Froyo it seems to scan way too often regardless of build.prop setting. Netloc should wakelock less if wifi is off.

By about 8 or so I would already be at 90% or less. That was me hardly using it. Well I hope I got my answer. Apparently Beautiful Widgets was KILLING me on the wakelocks! No, slow charge is a few other things. ALL android phones wakelock when charging.
The phone shouldn't count CPU/screen/etc usage against charge current at all but it does. It seems to do it less so on GB. Still does it, but the spikes seem lower even if I crank stability test. Gonna be a while before I can test a navigation run.
Seems like on GB, difference between screen off and running stability test with screen on is about 200 mA. Haven't tested in that much detail on froyo. Another way of putting that - putting the screen on and cranking CPU will reduce charge rate by at least 1/3 of the 600 mA charge limit.

Device health application

All
Been lurking for quite a while now and have had the ATRIX 2 since the day after launch.
I pay pretty close attention to applications and their battery consumption. Today when checking I found that an app named device health application had been running. Does anyone know what this app is? Have google'd it. It didn't find any info.
Thanks!

It's always been <10% batt usage for me until the other day when I noticed it was up around 15%. I selected it in the batt usage screen and it's battery usage appears to be GPS and not so much CPU. It had the GPS on for 25mins total that day. I find this a bit rediculous and decided to just freeze it with Ti Backup. It's now not contributing to CPU usage, and I don't notice the GPS symbol w/o firing an app that uses it. I also haven't noticed any ill effect yet, but I'd be interested in knowing what this thing does.
I suspect it's a moto app for collecting device stats to aid in trouble-shooting issues, but that's just a guess. I'm not a fan of apps out of my control just firing up GPS at their whim. and no, I'm not willing to go full manual and start GPS myself everytime an app needs to use it. My phone works for *me*, not the other way around.
that's interesting. I haven't seen it on my since the day I posted about it. Didn't notice it doing anything with the GPS. I keep mine turned off unless I need it. Will have to check that one out if I ever see it again.

Way to disable notification light at certain times?

I was wondering if there was an app/tweak that would allow me to select times where I'd like to see the blinking notification light.
For example, if I want to turn it off overnight so i don't see it blinking all night when those pesky emails come in.
Suggestions?

I haven't figured out a way to turn it off period. The only option I have checked is for the LED to be on while charging. Yet it continues to blink for notifications. I think there are some known bugs with the US models' LED.
There is an app called Lighflow led that is supposed to give you complete control over notifications and the led but they are having issues specifically with the gs3.

Dim Softkey brightness? Is it possible?

Is it just me or are the softkeys really bright on the s2?
Well, ive gone on google and tried to find the answer, but seems like there is not a way to possibly reduce the brightness of the softkeys itself.
However, before i give up (i find those softkeys useful, but hard to use at night as its too bright, and turning off the function is difficult to use) I was wondering if its possible without rooting, by using a 3rd party app.
Thanks

That's an interesting idea. The brightness issue made me turn off that light all together (running CM9). I found the light so distracting when using my phone to read a book or something in a dark room at night...
I hope someone chimes in with an idea.
.
Seriously doubt its possible without root.... with root, the only ones i can find just turn them off.. havent seen anything that just dims.
Would definitely say impossible without root, as you need to edit system files to alter hardware functions. I don't believe there is a variable anywhere to edit that though, because I've only ever seen their functions to be off and on with all the phones I've used that have had them. Just my 2 cents, but I'm sure a skilled dev could give you a better opinion.

I'm not sure exactly how these specific leds work, but I know with store bought leds, you can use what's called multiplexing which makes them flash faster than your eye can see, but slow enough that it seems as if they are dimmer...not sure if there is a way to lower the speed or if you can even make them flash at all (constantly)
You could also maybe look for a night mode from a third party app to change settings at a certain time

That said.. I wonder if its safe to have a an app to lower voltage/amps to these leds.

I have none of those problems personally. Plus the LED customizations in most ROMs are not as complete as Lightflow.
Oh and it allows me to have Dashclock entries for apps that don't have extensions (e.g. AOSP email app). This is actually the main reason I use Lightflow.

You actually do have some of these problems, but you don't realize it. There's no battery drain issue, bnut there are definitely bugs in it, that are due to Android's handling of the LED.
1. Rapid blinking of multiple colors when turning screen off -- this happens often, but is by design. I've spoken with the developer and he said there's several situations where Android will screw up the handling of the LED blinking and end up permanently blinking until you restart. Part of the fix for this is to rapidly blink a bunch of colors, which takes care of the issue. This doesn't occur every single time you turn the screen off, but it does happen often. You probably just haven't noticed it, and that's the point -- it's avoiding an annoying bug.
2. Blinking randomly when there is no notification --- this is still a problem, but has been mitigated a good bit over the past few updates. The phone sometimes will just blink for absolutely no reason at all. No notifications, etc, but it'll blink.
Those are the 2 main issues. It also tends to crash on occasion, but again the latest version has fixed/improved that issue.

Again, I have never had these 2 issues. You said #1 happens often, then it probably isn't often enough for me. I always have the phone in front of me and I rarely restart my phone so if it did happen, I would have noticed it.
How many apps do you enable in Lightflow? If you have many pending notifications from many apps at the same time, then I can see how it could potentially mess up. I'm letting Lightflow control the LED for 4 apps only (Hangout, Gmail, Email, Whatsapp).
Light manager is a fine alternative to light flow. I am using it for a few weeks now and it fits my needs.
