[Q] Download Mode - Samsung Infuse 4G

OK, here is a question that has me stumped...I can not get my infuse into download mode. I have tried holding volume + - together and inserting battery, volume + - while inserting usb cable. I have tried several apps from the play store that are supposed to boot the phone into download mode. No matter what I try the phone boots into recovery, never download mode. I am not pressing the power button. I have taken the phone appart cleaned and blown out where the power button is, it looks clean, I can hear a faint click when I press the power button, it doesn't appear to be stuck as I can use it to power on and off the phone.
I am running paranoid android 2.0 from Scott. The same thing happens on CM10 and slimbean. I don't remember having this problem on CM9-I'm not saying this is due to JB at all, so please don't go there.
I would like to go back to stock and reformat everything, but I can't get into download mode.
Any ideas?
Thanks

OK. I got the USB jig, it works, I got my infuse into download mode, but my mac won't recognize it. I've reinstalled kies, tried different usb cables and ports.
I have enabled android debugging enabled under dev options, but I don't see where to enable mass storage mode.
The infuse shows it's charging from my usb port.
Any ideas?

[Q] An odd pseudo-brick situation. Halp!

So I'm an absolute idiot (hindsight being 20/20).
Running Froyo and installed an app to change the battery icon for me, did so and rebooted into a lovely reboot loop. Used Odin to go to stock just fine, reinstalled the froyo rom I was using before and attempted to restore /data from a previous backup. BIG MISTAKE.
Now it boots into Froyo, vibrates a few times and shows off the fact it needs to Force Close a few apps finally rebooting. I can't get it to go into download mode OR recovery mode no matter what method I try. Plugging in the USB cable while holding volume up/down sends it to the battery charging screen with every combo of the sim card in/out and buttons I can try. If I try to hold volume up/down at the same time to boot into recovery it continues into Froyo to crash a few apps and start the process all over.
I can't for the life of me get this thing into anything useful to try to restore. I haven't tried a USB jig yet but I'm about to. Any suggestions for this poor idiot?

Try keeping the battery out and have the usb plugged in and hold the vol buttons. Keep holding them and push the battery in. That has worked for some people. And maybe do what you did to get to where it force closes and try ADB commands.
If you can use adb, use it to get into download.
I thought about using adb to reboot into download mode but neither my laptop nor desktop seem to detect the phone having the USB cable plugged into it. While it is booted into Froyo it doesn't make the usual sounds indicating it is connected via USB either and monitoring the System Devices shows it isn't connected either. Just seems to want to use my machines USB ports for charging and not for anything else.
I'll keep trying anyway.
Try all the different usb ports on your computer. Sometimes one will work for some odd reason. If your phone isn't being registered on your computer I don't see how odin will work either.

Did you try the alternate 3 button method I suggested?

Obviously it won't. Another odd behavior it is displaying is that during some reboots it skips the AT&T logo and goes straight to the boot up animation. Some times it vibrates before showing "swipe to unlock" and sometimes it doesn't. I almost have enough time to get into Rom Manager and tell it to reboot into recovery but I've gotten to hit the button and then it reboots into it's fun cycle again.
Almost as if it doesn't have recovery mode at all anymore or USB function.

Yes several times now. It just pops up with the charging screen and sits there each time.

What happens when you hold both vol buttons and the power button? Anything?

Pulls up that circular loading whateveritiscalled then the grey battery appears, sits for a few seconds and cycles that again over and over.
Will it stop force closing long enough to go into the settings and do a factory reset? Also, I would check the usb debugging box. I have found it unchecked after a flashing or restoring sometimes. Don't know why.

Not usually no. The amount of time I have to get in and try anything varies a bit based on voodoo and how many times I press the screen it seems. Without a stop watch I'm guessing it's alive for a full 20-30 seconds before it reboots with the Force Close boxes slowing down the process further as most of the time it's unresponsive as something else is crashing in the background.
Have you tried plugging it into different usb ports? There will be times that only one out of the five I have on my computer will register. All others only charge.
Chances are USB debugging is not enabled and that is what your issue is as suggested by the previous poster. Unless you are able to get into development you might just have to get lucky. I am not sure what else you can try.

Yes I have. This laptop has only 3 ports and my desktop 8 or so but they all react the same. The phone just wants to use the power to charge.
Sorry, out of ideas too. Looks like it's time for a jig.

Yep. Got lucky and had 3 100k ohm resistors on hand. Cracked the casing off the end of the USB charging cable and soldered them on and just finished running Odin. Seems to be booting up just fine now.
Hopefully this thread of insanity will be able to help someone else.

[Q] bricked?

Rooted my phone, installed cwm and modded 3e recovery, everything seemd to work sofar, clickd to restet into boot mode? i think that was the next step and now im staring at the samsung screen for i cant tell you howlong. Usb dosnt recognize device cant reset it into boot by holding power and volume. Any ideas? sorry if this was covored somewhere but I searchd in the forum and im not reading countless threads in the infused post to see if they had maybe been covored, iv been poking around for an hour now im asking for help.
Start by pulling the battery and follow the instructions found here.
EDIT: If you need any help, I will be around all night.
Don't need to pull battery, I've been able to enter ODIN mode as follows:
Hold down VolUp+VolDn
Hold down power button for a while (10-15 sec)
Phone should reboot, release power button, keep holding VolUp+VolDn
You should be in downloader mode now.
Also some of the instructions for entering downloader mode were a bit funky, they said something like:
Pull battery
Insert USB cable
Hold VolUp+VolDn and then insert battery
In my case the following works:
Insert battery, do NOT touch Power
Hold VolUp+VolDn
While still holding them, insert the USB cable
You should wind up in downloader mode
Pretty much as long as you're able to enter downloader mode you're not bricked. I've been frozen at the SAMSUNG screen MANY times (kernel hackers get used to it...)

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Captivate (Rogers) not booting

This is my first post on the boards, so I apologize in advance.
This phone belongs to a friend of mine, they had it rooted and then they reset it to factory default, and it stopped working. That's when it was given to me.
Specs:
Samsung Galaxy Captivate (Rogers)
SGH-I896
When I got the device, it could be turned on and would say "SGH-i1987" and "19000i" or something. After a short time an "S" would appear and glow until the screen went idle. It would never boot up.
After a lot of trial and error, I eventually got it into download mode by holding VOLUME DOWN and clicking the POWER button.
Once on, I tried flashing using a One Click Odin from this site. It seemed to be installing through Odin and eventually the device booted up an "AT&T" logo then rebooted, and kept doing so over and over.
After 5 or so minutes, I hit the power button and Odin said 1 Successful/1 Failure ( i believe) and so I unplugged the device.
Now when I turn it on it keeps loading the AT&T logo and then rebooting, or if I connect the USB it shows the grey battery, then reboots.
Here I have tried everything. I tried VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN, VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN + POWER, VOLUME DOWN + POWER, USB, no usb, I tried 10 times doing each. I could never get a different result.
I bought 3x100k resistors and tried linking them, ran it over a meter and say that it had 300k resistance. I tried making contact to the microUSB slot but after a few hours it still hadn't gone into download mode. I stripped a microUSB plug but I had to junk it, the contacts weren't helpful. I've since ordered a USB jig but would like to fix the phone before that comes in, if possible.
Is there any other way to fix it other then the jig, is the jig going to help? I have a microSD card, can I use that to enable the buttons or flash something helpful onto the device? I don't have much experience with this but I've read several forum posts on the subject so far. Also, if I get it into download mode, what is my best course of action to get a simple WORKING OS loaded.
Thanks a lot for any help you can offer me!

Power phone on using Odin or something similar?

Hello,
The power button on my cappy broke and I now can't get my phone to turn back on. I have tried taking the phone apart and cleaning it, but it still won't turn on. Is there a program (Odin?) that I can use to power the phone on through the USB port?
Thanks!
Can you boot into recovery and hit reboot device? Otherwise, flashing something with Odin will indeed cause the device to reboot.
You can also pull the battery, hold the volume buttons and put on the USB cable. Once in download mode, you can use Heimdall or adb to reboot the phone.
make/purchase a download mode jig
plug in for 1sec and pull out, it will power on
If you get DL mode, you left it in too long
I do this regularly with my broken spare when I play rom swap.

[SM-G925F] Hard Bricked, not turning on.

Hello guys,
My Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925F) has been sitting in the corner for a while. I've flashing it so Custom ROM (don't remember to which) and it got bricked. I've tried all possible ways to turn it on (Volume DOWN + Home + Power), but nothing helps. I can't turn on the Recovery Mode and Download Mode. I connected it to my PC, it recognizes it but instantly disconnects from it. When I hold POWER button, computer it recognizes it, when releasing the POWER button, it disconnects. When I open Device Manager on computer, it recognizes it as a Exynos7240. I tried to install various drivers but no-one seems to be working. The phone can't be detected by Odin, Multidownloader, Smart Switch and other apps.
If anyone knows the solution how to fix it, that might be really helpful.
Computer is using Windows 10 (64-bit).
