[Q] Samsung gt-i9020a (nexus s) wont turn on - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I was trying to root my phone, a Samsung gt- I9020a (nexus s). I was following a tutorial and When attempting to load a recovery img the first time it did not work so I googled this issue and found a few answers. I proceeded to download and load the “ClockworkMod 6 recovery image” onto the phone by following the steps. Now my phone will not turn on even when holding the volume up+power button startup. Is there anything I can do??? Please help.

Is it completely dead? Will it not display a single bit of light on the screen? Or are you stuck in a bootloop

will not show any signs of life. no lights or anything.

I'm not an expert, but I know enough that if NOThING will power on the phone then it is hard bricked. However, I don't see how what you did could have possibly done it.... even if you mess up the recovery it shouldn't happen.

if it is hard bricked is there anything at all I can try to do from home to fix it?

See if your computer recognizes it. But I think it needs power for that because usually when you're screwed it at least has some form of life and you can connect. Try anyways, are you sure its not a problem with the battery though?

Have same problem no signs of life except really hot when charging.
Currently having mine J tagged to see if that resolves anything.
Will keep you updated.

Use fastboot from your PC. Everything is controlled from CMD Prompt. Look at Pete's tutorial. Just need to setup the drivers. Check the stickies.

Just have it fixed through best buy it takes 3 business days I sent mine in on Thursday and got it Monday since obviously weekends don't count. My power button wasn't working either and I was rooted and unlocked bootloader..just save all your data since they might just give you a new nexus like me

doesnt black tie give you a new phone right there?
also try, inserting the battery in while its plugged in. It may turn on automatically.

If ur bootloader is unlocked, switch off the fon, connect the phone to computer by pressing both volume keys and connect the using data cable. Ur fon wil enter into download mode. So u can flash rom and all with odin.

I don't think any of romracer's "stockish" kernels have uv/oc patching.
In that case. That sucks. Use your warranty. Your phone killed itself. What a shame
This happened to me as well. I was browsing the web and the phone just died and wouldn't show any signs of life. Tried everything including buying the Samsung Jtag dongle. I got it replaced but now am really concerned about rooting it and loading a new rom. I was on Sky ICS 6.35.

I need help rebooting my bootlooped phone.

The phone I have is bootlooped Android Motorola Milestone (1) .
After I rooted it with " z4root ", I downloaded this app about Wifi Tethering, I tried it out, but then it said something like, "Are you sure your phone is rooted?"
And it also told me to try to reboot the phone, so I did, after like the 3rd time rebooting because it said the same thing, I attempted to turn it on after turning it off. It turned on but it stays stuck on the Motorola logo every time now.
I looked up on the web how to fix a bootlooped phone but none of them actually worked.
Sooooo, i'm hoping somebody can enlighten me about how to fix it because i can't afford another phone lol.
What about restoring your phone from the recovery? Have you done a backup recently? Usually I have this problem when I flash a kernel in contrast with my OS.. maybe the solution is simply: flash another OS if you don't have a backup
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
If its stuck on the Motorola screen then it sounds soft bricked which Odin should fix. But if its showing the ROM boot screen its probably just a bad flash which you could fix by flashing again or starting over and flashing twice

and skinzy98, I'm sorry bro I can't take a picture. no camera..
but yeah it stays on the motorola screen when you start it up, the initial start screens are, Motorola logo and android logo, then it goes to the home screen . But when you start it, it just stays on the motorola logo. D:
It sounds like its just soft bricked. Is there a thread for this device if so Odin or heimdall will fix it depending on whether you have a Mac or pc

So, i bricked my phone trying to update recovery. No power, nothing. Except, when i connect the device Windows recognizes as qhsusb_dload device. I found the drivers and can get Odin to recognize it, but i get stuck at setup connection when i try to flash. Does anybody have any ideas on what to do next? It's there a different tool i need?

The bad thing, if it were and HTC then it could be unbricked... I'm going to look into how it is done and try to make one for the skyrocket...

Thomas you've bricked it man. Have you tried talking to Adam Outler or Bhundvyn about trying to figure out the unbrickable MOD on this phone? Worth a shot as it would be a really nice mod to have. lol Pretty sure Adam would be able to jtag it for you as well. What recovery where you trying to flash?

Trying to flash just the stock ICS recovery? I didn't even know you could do that without flashing the stock ICS ROM as well. Assuming you actually can and that's not what bricked you, I'd love to keep that piece of information in my back pocket for future applications.

Also...It's critical that you check the proper check boxes in Odin and supply the file to the correct type..ie. PDA,ect.
Okay, so i check that guys post , but i did what they did there. And i managed to actually stock in back to stock
I used
Baseband version: 1727UCKJ2
kernel version: 2.6.35.11
Build # gingerbread.ruxkj7
//
Even though i restock my phone, im still having the issue of it turning off randomly when im going through any app and it starts vibrating every second and its hard to turn back on. Sometimes when i would turn it back on it would just go straight to the vibrating process again :l

Sometimes running a pinhead around the perimeter of the button and slightly under the lip can dislodge anything stuck there. Short of that, opening up the phone is the best way to fix it. It's not too terribly hard to do.
