Is the Asus tool the only way to unlock the bootloader? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like the title says, is the Asus tool the only way? From what I read I need to have the bootlader unlocked to install custom roms, right? Thanks!

Thanks. I should be buying a TF300 in the next few days. If I do the JB OTA and then unlock, and decide that I don't like JB, will I be able to install ICS roms? Would I have to downgrade the firmware? Thanks again for any help...

Even with an unlocked bootloader, there's currently no way back to ICS from JB. So if you update, you're stuck there for now. There are one or two custom JB Roms though if you aren't happy with stock JB.

Thanks for that. If I go the other way around and stick with ICS and unlock the bootloader, will I be able to upgrade to JB later (not necessarily stock JB)?

[Q] JB RUU released?

Hey quick question that requires a simple answer: Has the JellyBean RUU for S4 been released yet? If not, can I flash any JB Sense based ROM on to my current 2.31 RUU based firmware?

RUU's are intended for emergencies if your phone gets bricked and what nots; not for updating your phone. Of course you can flash any ROM as long as you fast boot the boot.img. Best of luck. and keep a 2.31 RUU incase the phone somehow bricks. (Just relock the bootloader and follow the instrucitons)

Actually, more importantly, does it fix the issue of WiFi dropping out when the device sleeps/or after the screen is off for a while? THanks

Well you need to unlock bootlader, you can do that with official htc website, then you need to root your phone and flash custom recovery. After that you can do nandorid backup in custom recovery. All the information you need is here.

You can try with this tool, it suppose to work on all devices even with unlocked bootlader and unrooted phone.
just updated my phone too. i didn't even know that there was some issues with the camera and the speakers. my phone is having problems with some evil demons inside it, i only hope that this update exorcised it!!!!
isn't there some release notes for this update, so that we know what are the improvements and what bugs were fixed?
it's probably the bugs that are inside stock jellybean . someone back it up so we could use the update copy of the jellybean stock rom but for the hboot 2.11 like me we will have a slight problem dude the different hboot

You cant. Even with the correct RUU file of ICS you cant. Cos your HBOOT has been updated. I tried to go to ICS also with my official One S, with locked state.
The solution lies here. It had worked for me completely. But this worked on to go back to stock JB. But i believe if you have a stock ICS nandroid you can do it still. Just do a little search here on the forum, cos thats how i found this.
if your s-off you can run the ruu

How do you get to an unlocked state or revert back to the old HBOOT?
Seems like I don't have an ICS nandroid backup so that sucked.

Once you unlock the bootloader it stays unlocked, so flash JB firmware using Flashtools right now.. :good:
