3rd consecutive Infinity - 3rd time no "haptic" feedback - Asus Transformer TF700

Subject says it all. "vibrate on touch" not functioning...AGAIN, and I did factory reset, firmware update blah blah blah. This makes 3 in a row for me with this issue. C6, C5, and now C7 s/n.
This time I bought it at Best Buy locally instead of online like the first two, so I can exchange it more easily.
So, what's the over/under on the total # of times I'll be exchanging this thing until I get one that works 100%?
Mechanical construction seems fine w/ minimal light bleed.
One final thing ASUS: W T F ?!

No haptic feedback on what, typing? There are settings to increase the instensity and the stock setting you can't feel it, so you need to go to the keyboard in settings and change the intensity.

No touch feedback on ANYTHING.

The only place I notice the haptic feedback is when I power the device on and off - that's it... I'm wondering if all 3 units were actually fine the whole time??

My first one it worked fine then inexplicably stopped working. Every time I tapped the screen I would get a response. When I would place widgets on the screen I would get a response. I can adjust the settings/volume in advanced keyboard settings, but when I type there is no feedback response. Mine does vibrate on start-up/shut-down, that's it.

I feel a slight vibration when I press any of the three buttons on the lower left of the home screen

Did you go to "Settings - Sound - Vibrate On Touch" and turn it on?

If it works on startup/shutdown then I don't think it's a hardware problem - probably just a combination of settings...

This is nuts...
There is an option that can be toggled on and off in the settings menu. It's called "vibrate on contact". You know what I am referring to, right? Whether or not that box is checked has no effect on the haptic feedback.
I am aware of the 'advanced keyboard settings' where the duration of the feedback can be set. I can slide that around and feel the response. When I use the keyboard: no response. Again, it's not just the keyboard, it's everything.
My very first tablet, when I clicked on menu items, icons, etc, the scren would vibrate..just like my cell phone. Every time I tapped the screen there was a solid response. Then it suddenly stopped working. 2nd tablet, very faint feedback when hitting the 3 icons in the lower right hand side, none anywhere else.
I have a feeling a LOT of people have this issue and don't realize it and/or don't care about it.
Bottom line is, my constant issue has nothing to do 'playing with settings' hard boot, cold boot, boot in the ass, whatever. It has to do with piss poor quality control on the part of the mfg.

Haptic feedback response is supposed to be for more than just clicking on those 3 icons you are referring to. How about when you select various things from the settings menu? When you click on an app? Press and hold an app/widget in the menu to drag to the homescreen? In those cases, and others like typing, there should be vibratory feedback. If you're ok with it then great. I just feel that if I am spending $500+ on something I want ALL the functions to work.

Are you using the stock launcher?

Ya, thats settings for the tablet dude. If you feel the feedback when you turn it on or off then it IS working. Asus has just nerfed the HF when your navigating around android likely to save battery life. Chances are with custom roms and custom kernels when they come you can boost the intensity of the vibration and enable it for everything, not just three or four buttons on the homescreen.
Honestly, in a device like this having HF is sort of silly, one tiny vibrator isnt going to provide that much feedback in such a large device and it just kills battery. The only time i really like having it is when i turn on the device and get that feedback to tell me that yes, the tablet is in fact turning on.

I had the same issue that haptic feedback was only working while powering the device up.
But to my big surprise it started to work on everything without me doing anything about it.

Maybe its a bug that didn't exist in the firmware version on your original unit, but exists in the current firmware...
My point is that its not a *hardware* issue if it vibrates on power up/down...

Maybe, but I always turn off haptic on my phones and tablets.. never did like them

Ok, so I just tested this. The only way to key the soft keyboard keys to vibrate on touch is by going into the "Asus Keyboard" settings and enabling it there. If I enabled it under the "Android keyboard" settings, it doesn't work (since we actually using the Asus soft keyboard). Also, make sure to increase the vibration length as it defaults to 1ms or something like that.
Have you enabled the vibration under *Asus Keyboard* settings?
The back, home and recent apps soft keys did vibrate by selecting Vibrate on touch under Settings->Sound.
So, it seems to work as expected here...

Vibrating dialer....

Rooted and ran ruu....updated and now I get the annoying vibrate when I hit a number on the dial pad. Seen posts elsewhere about it. Anyone else confirm? Am I missing a setting somewhere? (and yes vibrate is off on typing input) I was pretty sure that when I first got the hero it did not have that feature. If that is how HTC does updates then ewww. If there is no setting someone please remove it in a ROM!

I agree, been anxious to see what/if HTC says anything about the *new* feature....and thanks flipz for takin a look, and other devs for their awesome work on roms!
you can download "Spare Parts" from the market and turn off haptic feedback from there. May or may not help your issue.
Unfortunately spare parts does not disable it...doh

With all the juicy ROM talk and requests....since the MR the vibrating dial pad is horrible. #1 on my list for what I am looking for in a ROM.
Any updates on how to disable vibrating dialer???
It is part of the Sprint RUU update. As far as I know there are no manual options to disable it from a user stand point The devs might be able to find a way to disable it im not sure.

[APP] Lock 2.0 unusable on Nexus One

I have had the payed version of Lock 2.0 since there was an option to buy but since I got my Nexus One it has now become pretty much unusable. The sad part is that it is better than the lock button that is on the top of the phone cause it lets you bring up the lock screen by pressing your track ball. I love all the different back grounds and sounds you can download and how they stay in a folder and not in your app draw (which is really annoying). Now the thing I don't like is that when you press the volume buttons when the phone is locked you can and will turn down or up the volume on accident and this is why this app is now unusable. Can it really be that hard to add an option to disable these buttons? I have emailed Android Apps and they say the reason the volume button does that is for when you are listening to music and thats great but whats the use if when you get a call or text and you can't hear it cause you turned the volume down to 0 on accident. I emailed them today again and asked if they could update their app and I hope they do. The reason I started this thread is so anybody could comment on this problem with I have to say is probably my second favorite app on the market. I will also email them a link to this thread so they can see what everybody thinks. One more thing on another lock app LockBot when you press the volume button the sound does not get turned down but I don't want to really pay for two apps that can do the same thing. Edit: OK they fixed it but their is a new problem with the home button.

What rom are you using?
Cyanogens latest has an option for trackball wake-up (and of course that mod can be applied to other roms as well) if that is indeed the biggest thing about it you like. I personally never saw the need to change my lockscreen from stock, but can understand why some people do.
I am using the stock rom, I didn't want to root this phone since you void your warranty and mine is pretty messed up I should get a replacement this week. Also I am glad Cyanogen added that and that tells you it is a problem in the stock or he wouldn't have had to improve on it. So people like me only have the option of downloading an app to get the same results. Also I have used a rooted phone before, I had been using my Google Ion rooted for about 6 months before I got my Nexus One.
Ok I just got an email from the developer and they have disabled the volume buttons by default on the new version that was fast. Now there is a weird problem where even after you set the Launcher as the default for your home button it still keeps opening Lock 2.0, its really annoying but I already told them so I'm sure they will fix it. Now if only Google would respond like this for their "Support Forums" on fixing the 3G and Touchscreen problems the world would be a better place.
I understand the issue with the volume keys. I don't listen to music so i installed the app (ringer mode locker) by kaa from the market. It overrides the system setting and locks on your choose of settings: vibrate, ringer silent etc. If you volume up or down it stays on you set point. I like if because it is not a background app using extra battery trying to monitor a set point.

Please don't critisize Google like this, 3G issues and Touchscreen problems are not simple applications in which code can be modified to turn off the "Volume" buttons.. I've noticed the employees on their forums try to solve things to the best of their abilities - but Google can not just correct everything as if it takes a small flick of the wrist, or click of a mouse...
Honestly I don't see how they will fix any 3G issue entierly without modifiying the insides of the phone.. guess I dont know enough about phones to make such a conclusion anyways.

I even posted about it a couple of times in the Q&A section but got no responses. I'm glad to see someone on a stock ROM is experiencing the same issue because I thought it was due to using CM. Are you using an auto task-killer?

wow dude just tried it! works perfect! thanks man!
Meh....
After installing and trying to use it, I finally gave up. It has the potential to be by far one of the best android apps. The developer has designed programs that mesh with android so natively that I am jealous of his understanding. But even after a few reinstallations, this program never delivered. A replacement lockscreen must be more than just pretty. It wasn't sized right for the Nexus One screen and constantly froze "Updating List", even when I was just trying to unlock. The "Updating List" freeze causes a loop that just recalled the freeze when I hit home. There is no escape short of hitting menu, more, home, then selecting my home screen program. I would consider that a lock screen fail if I have to navigate a menu to select a home screen instead of sliding the sexy little slider over. I hate taking refunds from the market, but Lock 2.0 needs more work. If I see anyone saying it has been adjusted for the N1 screen and the home bug has been fixed, I'll buy it again, but until then, I'll stick with the just weather and toggle widgets.
I hear that Lock 2.0 disables notifications on the Nexus One. Does anybody know of any apps thats just as attractive as Lock 2.0 that doesn't disable notifications or freeze.. etc.. (something iphone-ish i guess)
Any news about the home button bug bypassing the lock screen in Lock 2.0?
As far as a can tell its been working good and the dev added the option to clear the home screen default if it does it again. Its pretty sad that he left it messed up for months until I sent him the link to this thread.

When you turn on your nexus and you're still on Lock 2.0 lock screen, if you press the home button, it unlocks the phone without having to use the slider.

[Q] orientation lock

Is there any app tah really locks the auto rotate function?
I've got a non rooted transformer, honeycomb 3.2 and use it frequently in bed. i find very annoying to have to tap on lower right corner and then open settings and then slide the auto rotation off.
I've already tried different apps like power control plus, beautiful widgets, autorotate ofOff, auto-rotate switch, auto rotate widget and many others like them but all of them simply recall the previuous state when i've manually locked the screen orientation with the method above.
so i'm looking for an app/widget that behaves like asus native lock orientation, or if there is a sort of macro creator that records taps and then create a shrotcut?
I've been looking for the same thing as well. Tried a few widgets like Widgetsoid.
Seriously? Tap the notification clock panel, hit the button that looks like this -|-|-|, and then hit Auto-Rotate off...
Do you guys actually try before you post?

I've tried various solutions as well, including the above "helpful" suggestion. Rotation lock on the TF doesn't work very well. I'm not sure if this is an Android thing, or a TF thing though...

Maybe is for my bad english but please read my question before criticize:
I've already know your suggested method and actually i'm using it as it is the only one that really works.
but i have to tap once to open the notification panel, tap once again to open the settings panel, then slide the rotation lock (wich sometimes doesn't slide and requires some tries) and then tap again to close the settings panel.
so i was looking for an alternative that involves less tapping.
i've tried some apps and windgets but none of them works as they simply recall the last locked state operated by the method above (if i locked the screen in portrait using asus notification panel, activating the widget rotates and locks the screen in portrait no matter if it was in landscape - of course applications that has fixed orientation maintains their orientation).
Pretty funny. At least you provided an answer

God forbid you have to tap more than 1 time...
If you really can't tap more than 3 times, go write an app that does it in a swipe gesture.

this one might work for you but I think they all are simply other ways of turning on and off rotate in android, and nothing special beyond the method.

WOW, nobody read his post at all. He's saying that he is looking for an APP/WIDGET that will allow him to control auto rotate and have the auto rotate preference still set AFTER he turns his tablet back on. Stop criticizing him for asking for help. He already said he knows about the setting in the panel, but wants another way. Instead of calling him lazy you could go to the Market and begin trying apps out and see which one works.
Back on topic I have tried the following 2 apps and they seem to work fine for me, even after a few screen offs and ons and a few minutes sitting screen off the settings were still set properly. However if the first one does not work for you the second app just puts a quick shortcut in your notifications. Effectively cutting your taps from 3 to 2.
Auto Rotate On/Off by CurveFish
Auto Rotate Switch by Kenneth Cheng
Tried them both - nope, it still won't work properly. Sorry, but thanks for suggestion anyway. Msybe honeycomb handles auto-rotation switching differently.

How do I get "do not disturb" in quick settings?

I remember shortly after getting my Nexus 5 that I noticed a hand icon in quick settings for do not disturb setting..
I went to use it the other day and it had disappeared. I had unlocked and rooted and also flashing custom kernel.
So as I couldn't find any setting to re enable, and suspecting it might have been something I had done, I downloaded Google nexus 5 image and reflashed to stock, but still no joy .
Any advice ?

I don't remember seeing anything like this, as I recall. But I am disappointed that the Quick Settings are not really all that quick. Tapping things like Bluetooth or Wifi takes you to the full settings page for that feature instead of simply toggling it on and off as I usually am trying to do.

If you hold the icon instead of clicking it, it turns on the radio. For example, pressing WiFi takes you to the WiFi settings page, but long holding the icon will just turn it on. Same for BT.
As for the Do not Disturb, I've never seen that. I know iOS has it...and I'm sure there are Google Play apps to do something similar, but Android doesnt have that stock.
Sadly it doesn't exist in stock android. They really have to add that. Every other platform has it except stock android.
EDIT: Yes, I know touchwiz and sense have it.

I found that you can press the power button and from that menu you can set the volume to vibrate or mute. Not sure if this is what you were looking for.
Thankfully custom ROMs will be here soon (in more complete/stable forms) to make all of these annoying issues better. Stock Android lacks some seriously useful little touches, but that's why we got unlocked devices....

PSA: Accessing Hidden Menu Will Break Knock-On

Based on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/help/knock-to-wake-t3239674
So far it's only a confirmed suspicion, but it's already happened to several people including myself. Accessing the hidden menu may break the knock on feature, even without doing any modification in it.
Possible Solutions:
-Hard Reset (100% working)
-Deleting Finger Prints (I've only seen this working on 1 person in another thread)
Please report if this has happened to you and if you've done something else to solve the issue. Thanks!
I go in the hidden menu a couple times a day to change RAT selection and have only had one issue. So I wouldn't say it's a 100% the hidden menu
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
Nope, doesn't break it. Been in the hidden menu to access Engineering Mode a bunch of times already and knock-on works fine.
Went in there to unlock the APN fields. Knock-on works fine.

Guys, it only breaks, as I stated in another thread, if you open the IMS Settings (which causes a crash) in the hidden settings menu. It is 100% reproducible, but *ONLY* that setting causes the issue.

@baymon - Funny how everyone notices this until you post a PSA about it then everyone has to try to rebuke it.
If it "breaks" (turns knock on, off) you can use the anycut type app from the play store and make a shortcut to the hidden menu knock on option to toggle it back on or off if you so chose (I turned mine off so it would stop turning on in my pocket).

Obviously we need more data on this issue, there could be other variables in play as well but that's why we're raising the awareness of the knock on issue.

I'm anxiously awaiting everyone now saying their knock on is broken ?
Didnt break mine! Thanks for the info to get into hidden menu though
nope mine still works but i do have issues with the screen in calls but thats it. but but was that way when i got it.
i think your hidden menu theory is good but my knock doesnt work but it stopped after i did a rest because the apn got messed up and it wouldnt let me add a new one. so i found this out this problem seams random as hell and if i turn knock pattern on to unlock the phone the knock works to turn the screen on but not off. i also noticed my second screen doesnt have the flash light on it when off anymore. so i will be doing a reset tomorrow unless anyone knows how to get the secound screen apps back when the screen is off. i think those apps are related to the tap on
It did break mine. Went to menu and hit apn unlock. No crash or anything. I noticed it not working immediatly. Knock code does still work.
I had the issue also, then did a reset. But I want to add to the issue that it didn't only effect knock on, but the touchscreen didn't register anything altogether when screen off. Meaning, the second screen can swipe when screen off to show the quick toggles, it did not work during that time.

mines the same no quick toggles
Mines the same no quick toggles but i found the answer with out rest on another post. i figured it out that its just something crashing the hidden menu doesnt matter what even force closing causes this problem. which is what i did seeing that the first time i used it nothing happened but the second time when the problem happened i cleared all apps and it stopped working. i'm guessing they disable it if something crashes it.
the knock on actually just gets turned off. Here's the quote for the answer make sure both knock on settings are on and it works instantly so no reboot needed.

Get yourself Quick Shortcut Maker, launch it, change the search type to 'Normal', search for 'Knock On', click on 'Settings', then on 'Try'. On the next screen, switch Knock On back and forth and see if that works.

If it "breaks" (turns knock on, off) you can use the anycut type app from the play store and make a shortcut to the hidden menu knock on option to toggle it back on or off if you so chose (I turned mine off so it would stop turning on in my pocket).
