if any one tried an anti theft app and works good with him at ics please tell us about it
cause i tried androidlost and it is a great app but it cant open gps nor wifi and sms actions doesnt work !! and it cant track my tab and tried avast and it is less functional so i need an app that i can completely control the tab remotly by internet or by sms !!! and i tried some other apps but no big deal
im using aokp build 40
btw i want a free app cause i cant buy any apps since im in egypt and these service isnt allowed here
is there any possible way to open gps remotly by any app ? or even the app use mobile data to get my location cause it is a must for me
Hello, not quite sure if this will help, but you could leave this app running.
Google Latitude location-sharing app.
Might not be secure, but you can look it up and decide for your self, came with my tab pre-installed.
Search in Google Play....
I had once seen an app which runs on sms things...If u send one sms to the phone you have lost then the alarm gets activated....You can do much more with that....Don't remember which one it was but the reviews were good
already i have an app called androidlost ... awesome app but there are 2 essential feature didnt work for me " enabling gps and wifi - some sms commands " so i want any one running aokp build 40 to try the app it is free and tel me what happend
There are actually plenty of such apps available in the market but the good ones will cost money. Just look up for phone locator. I have phone locator pro and that works like a charm.

After having lost a Nook Color on an airplane trip, I am looking to protect my other Android devices. Some apps have remote backups, and monthly fees, and stuff. Some apps assume GPS or 3G which isn't available on some devices, e.g., that Nook Color. Some apps seem to add all kinds of antivirus scanning crap that just slows things down for little value. I just want to be able to have it lock itself down or wipe itself, if it ever connects to the internet and finds a hot flag.
lookout is a pretty good app with lots of features for the free version
and theres also an app called remote wipe that might be good for you too.
sorry to hear about the nook.
yeah I tried using remote wipe.. i think is just FINE for me.
but try looking for other app for better option.
bump... interested in this as well. Has anyone had any good (or bad) experiences with an app that does this?
I got seekdroid as amazons free app of the day and looked at its features and tested it out. It seeks pretty damn good. Even if it's not the app if the day it's only 99¢ and it seems with it!

I am using Lookout, well so far so good
it's free, but a paid version is able to remote your droid.
Check out Android Lost - lots of useful features and it's free.
Theft Aware, Lock + wipe data + Many more SMS command like call back from ur lost device, data backup n also if u have rooted phone, it can install in system , so protection will not delete even after format/factory reset
Hi all,
Christmas is upon us (love and peace for all)
Since I will be travelling, I was wondering if it is possible to turn off all datatransfers while roaming except for whatsapp (dataroaming is expensive, but still cheaper than sending smsses to my friends who have an international)
I'm currently using cyanogenmod 7 on an htc vision.
I am aware that I can deactivate the data while not needing it, but then when I turn it back on everything starts syncing which slows that "quick" lookup down.
Or if I suspend the sync for facebook, google accounts etc, I'm afraid that whatever apps I have which have network access (eg news) still will be running in the background.
Many thanks for the brainstorm!

Hello, Supermooshman... you can also choose droidwall...i am new here so cnt post link but search for droidwall and select the first link and that what you go go for...
It has an option of white and black list... means allow/block all or just certain apps.. so you call configure it to allow only one app and block all other.. and its free ... solution provided
if you want certain apps to transfer data then use juicedefender and block the traffic for the apps that you dont want to use data

CyanogenMod 7 has a feature that could help you. Go to "Settings/CyanogenMod settings/Application" and make sure Permission management is checked.
Now you can revoke android.permission.INTERNET under "Settings/Applications/Manage applications" from all apps except whatsapp.

Solution provided indeed! Thanks
It's a proves to be a better solution than juicedefender (used in the past and made my phone less stable than francium) and less ticking off than using the cyanogenmod way
Cheers!
Is there an app that will allow you to locate your phone from your computer if its lost? Just wanna install all these things on my phone right now for precautions so I never lose it or if i do I can find it
PS: Not only an app that allows you to locate your phone but an app that also lets you wipe memory or lock the phone from your computer if you don't want people going through your personal files? (Free App or one time buy please, I'm not trying to pay monthly.)

I've heard cerebus to be really useful with a lot of cool tools (it's a one time paid app though)
Here's the link for it
I'm a cerberus user and I really like this app. After install app on your phone, log on cerberus website and manage your terminal as you like it. You can shoot a picture just to see who take your phone. Track with GPS your position. Delete everything inside the microsd or other memory. Basically is an anti theft app. If someone wrong for 3 times your unlock code cerberus shoot a picture with front camera if available and send it to your email..... Amazing....
search lbe in google play. free
Theres app called find my phone or something like it. You install it from your computer to your phone and it will locate it for you.

Samsung Galaxy has this feature built in
App
If you have apple device then with the use of FindMyPhone app you can search your iPhone, iPad location.
I use Cerberus as well. Another feature not mentioned is that not only can you see where your phone is, you can download the history of its location.

AVG and Kaspersky Mobile Security have a track option, GotYa! also works fairly well. (And has some nice anti-theft features, such as remotely bricking your device.)
Keep in mind that they work better on a device with 3G than without. Tracking my WiFi-only tablet (without WiFi on) only resulted in an area the size of the entire neighbourhood (3km²).
Kaspersky did an excellent job of tracking down my friend's phone to within half a meter when he got lost in Prague, though.
airdroid has those feature that you said
Through FindMyiPhone you can find your phone.
Find my droid is a good one
My lookout
you should definitely check out my lookout.

You can use Google Maps with Latutide. It work well :good:
AVG seems to be very good.
But no software will find your phone once it's turned off!
I like Cerberus....
With TrustGo you can do it.
It is an antivirus solution that can do all things you said. Even has an option to avoid that someone could uninstall the app without a password. It is light and has a data usage manager
i need anti-theft app works by GPS trackinng ....but unfortunately all antitheft apps in android (google play ) should have mobile data connectivity all the time ... and no one sure knows when will his mobile lost to turn mobile data on on that day ....so i ask for an app that when it recieves a message from another phone it enables automatically 3G data connectivity and gps
if any one knows app like that plzz write its link on a reply
You can try Plan B, here's the link:

My vote is for Cerberus.

I'm using Cerberus too.
It just works !
Use avast, and you will get also antivirus
Avast is for me as well the best. Antivirus and anti theft in one.remote control works.if installed with root, it will survive factory reset and wipe data enabled...

Almost all antivirus companies have device tracking enabled through web.if you configured and recalled the data.you can track the location of phone and can remote swipe/sms and many more.I have tested that using kaspersky and NOD32 and webroot.this is the only chance to track else after stolen people throw away SIM,format the phone or change the IMEI so impossible to track back.
I'm using avast! (Free) It has quite an extensive lost/stolen system built into it aswell as all the antivirus stuff. One thing I like about avast! (Not sure who else has this) it has a setting called 'Geo fencing'. Once set, if your phone leaves a, user set, distance from your current point, it automatically locks your phone and triggers any other protection activities, and sends a SMS to a pre-set cell number. Good for night clubs or busy shopping malls incase you get pick pocketed.

Avast! is pretty good when it comes to tracking.
Thanks for suggestions. Don't necessarily wanna install an anti virus on the phone.. Find they slow it down ( I know some people may disagree, but that's not the topic)

Android now has a built in phone locator which can be activated in Settings > Security > Device administrators. Check Android Device Manager.
Uses Google's push service so it doesnt poll battery.
Link to web interface: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
In addition, I use AndroidLost from Play Store. Runs through Google servers so no background usage. Has an advanced plethora of controls on the web interface. Check it out.
Google Device Manager
I have enjoyed using Google Device Manager. It has the ability to ring my phone for 5 mintues so I can find it easier. As well as the ability to locate it. Although like everything else depends on data connection. So if I lost in a park with a dead battery... NO DICE.

AndroidLost supports SMS controls. You could send an SMS message to activate GPS and auto reply the location, or you could send a message to enable WiFi/data and track that way.

agreed, i use android device manager. used to use the samsung version, but now that google offers it then i'll use that one.
I used to use Avast, but now I can just use Google's Device Manager or even CyanogenMod's which is crude for now.
Device manager seems to work well. It allows you to locate the device from another browser using Google maps, allows yo to ring the phone even if it's on vibrate or silent and once set up allows you too lock/erase all data from it.

cerberus is the best option for little money ( 3 € ) can have about 5 devices, and allows for many things, what I'm wearing and not disappointed.
Check out "Wheres my droid" from the play store. It is full of great features. Can set up triggers from text or phone numbers to make it ring. You can get is location from sending a specific text to your phone. You can lock it down, take a pic and even wipe it clean. Great app

Actually, this is a really important point. Which of these apps are still able to perform their advertized functions after it is being lost? Supposedly, whoever is in possession of the phone will through out SIM card and do a factory reset so all apps that use google services will not work anymore as they are Signed out... Are apps from antivirus suites immune to this?
