[Q] How to Port from N1 to Desire - Desire Android Development

Hi,
i thougt the n1 and the desire would have exactly the same hardware and tried to install this: http://forums.miui.us/showthread.php?15234-ROM-6-1-12-MIUI-us-4-0-4-2-6-1-Ice-Cream-Sandwiched
i have changed the installer script to make it install on desire and changed the build.prop settings from n1 to bravo
after installing it wont boot, why?
what i made wrong, havent they the same hardware and the same drivers?
metin

Did you replace boot.img?
Otherwise this is not the right place for these questions
Tapatalking

-Replace boot.img(also there are some files from modules that need to be replaced---so replace them all)-
-Change ro.product.board from mahimahi to bravo from build prop-
-Replace key charts and key layouts-
-libhtc_ril.so and libhtc_acoustic.so from libs(best is to use from stock original rom)-
Maybe i forgot something...

Please move
sry for the wrong section: PLEASE MOVE
thank you ill try it

Editing system.img/YAFFS2 (custom ROM creation)

Basically I just want a stock ROM base with the sprint crap taken out and unrevoked added in with some other app mods.
I've grabbed all the sources for YAFFS2/yaffs2Utils and compiled them using cygwin.
Now when I go to extract the system.img all I get is a fonts folder.
I'm setting up a virtual linux machine to try to mount the image instead, but in the meantime anyone care to assist me?

It seems to be worthless for EVO, only generates update files...I can't even use it to extract the filesystem from system.img
my experience has been working with rfs and not yaffs2 so far.
i think you'll be needing yaffs2 tools, like unyaffs2, etc.
i googled, android system.img mount. seems like a great place to start:

If you are rooted with toast, you can flash the custom roms made with that kitchen. you can add or remove apk files before recompiling to the update zip format. I am typing this from my customized rom I made with that kitchen. The kitchen can root the rom for you, add apps2sd (havent tested that) and add wifi tether. I mainly went this routw as io wanted a rooted .6 rom to use after rooting with the Toast method. I am an Android newbie but managed to do this

I already said it's useless and I said why, it generates update files...
I need to actually extract/mount the original system, that is precisely what the thread title is about.
From the command line you can create a system dump using the following command
tar -cvf /sdcard/system.tgz /system
assuming both /sdcard and /system are mounted. you may have to use "busybox tar" instead.
You can run it from recovery mode.
To mount the filesystems while in adb shell use
"mount /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system" to mount system
and
"mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /sdcard" to mount sdcard
if needed
As for making an update.zip you can take an existing one and replace the system directory inside it with your own custom one. Rezip it, no need to resign it for the EVO recovery, and flash away. Oh, and you'll have to delete any symlinks from the /system/bin directory inside the zip before flashing.

remove

DONE
Download the zip file to the custom screen animation you want to use to your memory card. Boot up into clockwork recovery. Go to install from sdcard then choose files from sdcard. Navigate to the file u want to use then install it. The next time you boot the phone normally it should show you your new screen animation. Atleast that's how I do it with my rooted epic 4g using clockwork recovery

Use adb push or a file explorer with root to place the bootanimation.zip (from my attachment) in the folder "/system/media" it is the animation from your first youtube link.
If it says something like cannot write, read only permission, you have to type this into a console on the phone or in the adb shell first
"mount -w -o remount /system /system\n"
The boot animation is safe, it either shows, or it doesn't.

Yes dont extract just copy it there.
Either your phone supports this and shows the new animation.
If it doesn't support it nothing happens and you see the old animation.
Nothing can really happen. The old animation is still there.
If it is supported your phone will look at that directory and say ahhh a bootanimation.zip lets use that instead of the default one...

Problem Changing System Background Image

Hi all.. Having a problem changing the system background on my daughters x10.. (The background you get behind all the system menus and apps like calculator and calendar etc..)
I did this on my Arc recently and it was a doddle - once I'd got the images cropped to the right size..
So here's what I did on the X10.
Copied the framework-res.apk to the SD card
Opened it using 7zip
navigated to res\drawable-hdpi
replaced the semc_bg and semc_general_bg images with the new ones I'd created.
then navigated to res\drawable-land-hdpi and replaced the semc_bg image in there.
copied the file back into the system folder.
changed the permissions to rw-r--r--
copied it to framework folder...
phone reboots and then gets stuck at sony ericsson white logo screen...
reflashed using SEUS twice now!..
On the Arc I also had to amend the image files in another place.. SemcGenericUxpRes\res
but I don't seem to have that folder on the x10...
Thanks.
** BUMP ** Anyone?
What rom/firmware are you on?
How are you moving the framework-res?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
stock 2.1 unbranded.. moving it using root explorer.. which is what I did on my arc..
Sent from The Arc!
Try moving it using adb push. Or use adb mask controller or x10 mod tool if you like/need a gui. You could also make a zip for xrecovery if you have it installed. Root explorer method never worked for me on x10 either...

adb should work just fine. Also have you installed recovery ? If no do it and take nandroid before doing it. It would go back to just like it was before.
Yea, xrecovery is super-easy to install & well worth it. Plus you (or one of us) could add the framework-res into a flashable zip we know will work.
BTW, there is a free version of titanium... &/or xrecovery will back up your entire phone as realunited said.
Thanks - Yeah - realised there was a free version after I posted - got it mixed up in my head with Root Explorer!.. yes - have xrecovery on there too.. is nandroid on the market? or is it part of xrecovery - not used it for a few months..
Cheers.
It just means using the backup option in xrecovery. There is a tut for making xrec zips in the dev section or post the framework-res here & I can look at it later when I get home.

Hi Aydee - Thanks for your help with this so far!!.. I've done a nandroid backup on the x10 and trying to ADB push the file - it won't let me - says "permission denied".. I tried ADB Remount and shell commands...
$ adb shell
$ su
$ mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
both not giving me r/w access...
X10 is rooted and busybox installed....
What am I doing wrong?!
[edit - got the su working in shell.. and tried mtdblock2 also.. still won't let me push!]
[edit2 - unsecured the shell and mounted as rw... still won't let me push!!.. saying permission denied!]
To be honest I havent used just straight up adb in a while other than zipaligning, I usually use x10 mod tool or xrecovery zips lately. They have been a reliable and quick. So my manual commands are rusty at best.. Would you want to try one of the other ways maybe? Or I'm sure someone else will know why push isnt working...

It looks like it didn't get the su permission. Check your phone after typing su. If you want i can make a zip to flash.
Hi - Yeah it got the SU ok.. don't really know why it wasn't working - Think it may be to do with the way I was using ADB push - I was trying to push the file directly into the system or framework folders.. x10 mod tool pushed it to a "SD" folder first then ran another shell command to replace it in the framework folder.. don't really know enough about it !!.. anyway.. got it working via x10modtool.. just need to figure out how to do the same now for the phone and phonebook.. presume it's a PNG within those individual apps?
When making a ZIP.. does it need to be a complete system image or can you just zip the framework-res file on it's own and zip that via xrecovery?
Cheers!

Just drag the framework-res.apk into the framework folder without extracting it. After that just flash it.
so presumably I would need to either ADB pull the whole FRAMEWORK folder first? or take a copy using a file manager (AKA root explorer etc)..?

The only time Root Explorer crashes on me, it's because I don't have root permission. Assuming you are rooted, can try three things:
1) Go into the Superuser App and find root explorer if its there and choose to forget it.
2) If that doesn't work reboot.
3) If THAT doesn't work try a different file explorer.
I have root and root explorer display that it got root permission a second before.it.crashed.
I've used an.other program and i can.confirm there is.the bootanimation.zip in the folder....even tried to change it for an.other on (ice cream sandwish boot).
I rebooted about 5 time and still no boot animation....

In Android Terminal Emulator, assuming you've already remounted /system read/write, try:
Code:
chmod 644 /system/media/bootanimation.zip
Other possibilities:
Some versions of the bootanimation binary only support PNG bootanimations, not JPEGs like the ICS bootanimation.
Some insist on it being /system/media/sanim.zip

Maybe my phone is fast booting by itself because I did nothing to help it boot as fast as this. since I Flashed the ROM the boot is blazing fast.
I did Mounted as RW with an app called Remount. It do the Root remount and it seems to work (for mounting) BUT! Still no boot anim.
I began to think that it's not that bad as I don't really reboot 5 time a day to enjoy a psychedelic screen lolll.
but still....it's more the Why than the How in this case

^^ this means that Entropy's instructions are assuming that you remounted system as read/write so that you can edit replace the bootanimation.zip. In Root Explorer once you navigate to system/media then in the top left it will say "mounted as r/o" next to that is a button that says "mount r/w" click that and it should "remount" your system as read/write.
At this point you should be able to replace the old with the new bootanimation.zip.
Reboot, and you're done.
If it still hangs and shows NO animation then my guess is you are using an incompatible bootanimation (that does happen, and will just stay black then your phone will just start, with no animation) try a different one, like the one below I know for sure works on the Infuse

Edit: Sorry it took me a long time to write all that on my Infuse, while i'm watching a movie also. Now that I posted I see others have informed you of the r/w stuff, but 2nd half is most likely your case.

Step 1: Use search function.
Step 2: Refer to source (found using search function) to determine how to install.
bootanimation.zip's may be located in /system/customize/resource, /data/local, or /system/media... It depends on what rom you're running.
If you're rooted then "root explorer" or "es file manager" are your friends!
