Is there an app or tool to send a hardware key command on a phone with no physical keyboard? On my emulators(n64oid, snesoid, etc), I cannot change the keyboard mappings, as the emulators have not been updated to accommodate touchscreen-only phones. To change any key mapping on most emulators, you have to press a physical key, as some of you may know. Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if it's available for your phone or not, but check out an app called Button Savior. You can change the "buttons" that it signals to the device and such. Hope that helps.
Can't link to the app due to restrictions....ugh.

did somebody know of a virtual/touch keyboard that have the arrow keys in the basic layout for the captivate?? like a hardware keyboard?? in the original and first screen not in some hide menu??? i think the evo4 have it, could it be port to captivate??
Its not hidden away in the menus. just press and hold the 123 key and they pop right up. There are a lot of features in the captivate that work this way.

awesome! i was starting to get annoyed at my fat fingers for not being able to go to my misspelled words! arrows make it much easier
thanks!
migsims, thanks for the tip, but thats what i call a hiden menu (maybe im incorrect) what i want is a keyboard that has the arrows in the basic layout, in the first page
Is there an equivalent way to bring up these arrow keys using the swype keyboard?

Freakin' sweet! I've been wanting this for a long time. I really love Swype for it's layout and special character positions, but never use the sliding feature.
Still looking for an APK that will enable the mic on 2.1. I bricked going to 2.2 and I'm hesitant to move to 2.2 until Clockwork is fully functional...
That seems to only be for the samsung default keyboard (I'll assume swype too) because when I press and hold the ?123 key, I get a popup menu for the Android keyboard (keyboard settings and input method). Or is as usual that I'm missing something?
Any insight?

Does anybody have an idea how to get the arrow keys on the android keyboard? The holding of the ...123 key doesn't seem to work for this keyboard?
Thanks.
You don't need it on FroYo. There's a blue teardrop shaped handle to scrub text. It pops up once you tap in the text field.

...and if one isn't on Froyo yet? I can't imagine the arrows aren't there in eclair.
Thoughts?

arrows are in eclair, blue teardrop thingy isnt.
in swype slide from the "swype" key (the one with the blue s on it in the lowwer left) to the "sym" key directly to the right of it.
in samsung keyboard... hell i dont rememer it's not there in froyo. someone else can answer that.
in stock android you dont have arrows. sorry but that keyboard is useless anyway, no multi touch means typing is slowwwwww.
now i wonder if the droid x keyboard has arrows it's fully touch screen.. i have used it and find it less natural to type on, just not my preference, it's a good keyboard, a bit better than the samsung one in functioality but my fingers just miss the key, go figure....
Other reasons for wanting arrows would be for ssh and terminals

I went ahead and purchased a Wiimote today so I can use on my emulators (N64oid, SNesoid, Gameboid) and I can't play any games. I downloaded the WiiMoteController app and paired the Wiimote successfully. I opened the emulator and mapped the keys to my liking. I mapped the start button to be the A button but I can't get into the game by pressing A.
I made sure I cleared the default mappings and set it them to blank. I mapped the D Pad keys and the other buttons and i still can't get it to press start with the assigned key. I tried mapping the start key to the home button and it's the same thing.
Any help would be appreciated.
try, under "other settings" and make sure "use input method" is checked

That seemed to work with my start button issue. I got into a match in Mario Kart and I could not turn. I mapped my d-pad appropriately and it only goes straight. Should I not be mapping the d-pad?
Do I also need to buy a nun chuck?

Yea you need to map every single button including the dpad, I have it running flawlessly on my phone, if u do want a little better controller get the classic pro controller
Sent from my Ginger ***** Supersonic
So I have to buy the attachment for the classic controller? I'm assuming I can then use the joystick right?
Also should I be mapping the buttons in the WiiController app or the actual settings of the emulator?
Is there a controller that they sell that I can stick my Wiimote into? Do I have to buy another controller? Should I just buy the Nunchuck and use my WiiMote with it? Which is the best setup?

I have a knock off wiimote and it works great except no nunchuck support. I only installed wiimote controller off the market, paired my wiimote to my phone, set the default keyboard as wiimote controller. Went to fpse, assigned the hardware keys to my wiimote in input menu, then saved as default config in system menu.
Shouldn't be any different for the classic controller.
You should be able to use any combination, you don't need a classic controller.
You need to make sure you have done 3 things. 1st, make sure that your input method is set to WiiMote. 2nd, make sure that you have mapped all the hardware keys using the emulator itself.
On yongzh emulators, you need to make sure that "use input method" is checked. Then you need to make sure that you go into settings, key mappings, and map all the keys you would be using. For example, up, down, left, right, etc. If you try to map the same key to 2 buttons, it will remove it from the other mapping.
Let me know if you have done all of these things, and are still having the problem, and I will try to make a video walkthrough for you. Once you get the basics of this down, you can get it more tailored to what you are doing.
For example, using analog input from the WiiController app instead of digital to get more precise control. Or using 2 controllers for 2 player games.
I seriously need a video walkthrough. I understand how to map keys but the issue is when I map the keys A, B, etc the screen shows the 2/1 buttons almost as if I'm mapping number keys. Same thing can be said for the directional buttons. I think another mapping is conflicting and I didn't see an option to clear defaults.
someone have the newest version of WIImote controller (v.0.5) no more available in the android market Thanks!!!

On the N64oid, the wiimote controll won't work- I've tried. It'll work for snesoid, and playstation emulators. For N64oid, you'll need the wii classic controller pro; its a wireless controller that will sync up nicely. It runs 20$ at gamestop...might be able to get it cheaper used/somewhere else.

You're mapping them correctly, it just shows the 1, 2, H [home key] because that's the ASCII / Hex value it registers when pressed.
Check in amazon!!! I buy one for $7

I would like to redact my statement on the nunchuck not working- it does working. Playing super smash bros. right now with it.
Edit: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/com.ccpcreations.android.WiiUseAndroid-1.apk
I pulled the working apk from my phone so everyone should be able to use this.
To use it, you have to be on an AOSP rom, it won't work with sense.
Thanks!!!! 4 all your help!!

I use my camera key, the focus key (light press). It worked for everyone else.
Does anyone know if u are able to reprogram the search button as multitasking? If not is anyone here capable and willing to reprogram it for some of us who I'll use it because I rarely touch the search button. Anyone else would like this except for me? Btw I'm running eagesblood, Thanks in advance
I second that request. That'd be way more useful than the search button
Do you mean the recently used/running task list? That's accessed by pressing home one the first home screen.

I would love this. Seem to remember CM7 having custom application launching for touch and hold search button so it might be a feature that just hasn't been implemented yet.
I have seen customizable keyboard modifications for devices with physical keyboards in order to remap some of the less useful keys to something worth while. When I have more time I may try to dig it up and see how complicated it is. Anyone care to tackle this? I probably don't have the knowledge to complete.

You can customize the home key in cm9 like you can customize the search key in cm7. You need to install Apex launcher. It have a lot of features you would like. This launcher do everything like cm7. Try it out.

Anyone else have a problem when using gameboid and multitapping the controls on screen? Cause I cant seem to run on pokemon in straight line. It makes my character run in different directions other than the one I press.

I use gameboid, and sometimes(not often) i have that problem when tapping to different buttons at the same time(x10 has crappy dualtouch)
What you can do is map the (b) button to the back key on the x10 so that you can run without problems
Theres a key mapping option in the settings so that you can map other virtual buttons to hardware keys
