Hi all,
just bought an Inspire off CL, and unfortunately didn't reallize that the screen won't rotate. I trired recalibrating, but it kept being aborted even though I put the phone flat on the table on its back. A search turned up tons of complaints from about a year ago with few resolutions, and none worked for me (reboot, recalibrate, kill all apps with adv task killer, switch sim card, etc.)
So the big question is, would rooting the phone and flash custom rom solve the problem? Has anyone solved the problem with the g-sensor?
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
Is the phone rooted? Some roms have customizations to lock the screen and keep it from rotating. Do any screens rotate? Or is the home screen just not rotating?
Try going to home> settings> display and check auto rotate screen.

Auto-rotate is checked. Apps the should rotate (e.g. Google search, email) don't rotate, and most frustrating is that games that use the g-sensor just won't work. The phone is running stock Gb 2.3.3.

If not rooted I would root and try a custom rom would hurt nothing. But make sure you use Ace Hack Kit and no out of XDA method. Also read, read, then read the Effen manual and make sure your knowledged on the steps for rooting. If you get stuck anywhere there is an IRC chat connection in the Ace Hack Kit page.
The thing about buying used phones from someone else is like buying a used car. Your basically buying some elses headache.
The other option would be to return to seller for money back, your option.
PS: If you decide to try out a ICS ROM remember that the kernels are not fully released as of yet so some games will not fully work and do have a few bugs depending on how it reacts with your phone. For gingerbread I would try a few out and see which one you like.
(Absolution 3.7 , Coredroid 9.4) lol my preference but thats a can a worms you dont want to open here on XDA by asking which is best ROM so dont.
Welcome and Enjoy the learning.
Ok, so all the reading made the rooting process seem somewhat intimidating. However, when I actually screwed up the courage to do it, it was like, that's it? It's donde in under 5 minutes, and I hardly did anything!
So the good news is that the phone is now rooted and flashed with coredroid (looks nice!). The bad news is that there's no change in the problem with the g-sensor! I'm starting to suspect that it's more likely hardware. In any case, I wonder if there are any Roms that might have a better shot at fixing the problem? Somehow I have the probably wrong impression that a custom rom that's modded from stock aren't likely to fix my problem... Any suggestions?

Yeah, if you had a sensor problem before the root and it persists after, it is more then likely a hardware issue and no amount of rooting/flashing a new ROM is gonna fix it. If you're under warranty, unroot and send it back for a replacement.

Did you look in setting for rotation display settings. Some launchers like adw launcher lets you also check and uncheck rotation angles. All roms are great in their own way, try a few on for size but I would give them each at least a week or two of testing. A day or two is not really enough to get the feel of them. You can try Absolution 3.7 , Redemption Alpha 6 (ICS) , or even go over to the Desire HD Dev section and try out - Ice Cold Sandwich 7.2 (ICS) (also dont forget to flash inspirmod as well with this one). Also these three will get rid of the stock look.
Good Luck
The phone was bought off craigslist, so no hope of return or warranty. Rotate sreen in settings has been checked, as well as g-sensor calibration (which invariably ends in abort, even after rooting and flashing coredroid. I might try absolution in a few days.
The phone is for my son, and he cares a lot more whether the accelerometer works (for games) than how nice the rom looks.
One problem I found after flashing coredroid is that even at boot up tbe email app keep crashing (without me opening the app). Anyone knows whats up with this?

Did you do a full wipe (factory, cache partition, dalvik) before flashing rom. Coredroid has a zip called full wipe 1.5 as well.
I flashed absolution, and it didn't help with the g-sensor problem at all. I put coredroid back, this time wiping data and cache, and the email problem went away. I guess my son will have to live with the g-sensor as is. Thanks to everyone who replied for the suggestions.

Since a day or three i'm having this very weird problem with my touchscreen, I'll try describing it as good as possible:
- Half the time it works perfectly and very smooth
- Then suddenly it gets difficult to slide/drag on the screen and it seems the touchscreen "automaticly" trys to start tapping the lower right search button/icon/softkey. Followed by of course the searchfunction popping up.
- Sometimes it even goes beserk without touching the phone at all (keeps hitting the search button).
- If i then lock my screen and unlock it, it sometimes working perfectly well for a moment.
- Also noticed when it's occuring and I try pushing the hard case just below the touchscreen it also acts up ....
Okay, so I hope i described it ok, it's al so random at the moment. I'll report more if I can.
Rom i'm using: the latest cyanogenmod9 (did full wipe etc, still same problem and no-one else reporting on the same issue).
The problem also occured in Clockworkmod recovery!!!
*edit:
Quick side-note question, I have htcdev unlock and using custom roms. Can I get my phone back to full standard/stock so I can send in my phone for warrenty? Or is my warrenty already lost by using htcdev unlock etc? What are the best steps to get full stock again? (so no htc dev unlock, no root, no clockwork recovery etc ...)
after some reading and testing it turns out to be hardware related. this thread may close, looking for some help reverting back to stockrom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595539

Try this, I found it on another forum:
This is from Lignja (earlier comment):
if you have touchscrean and swipe problems on your sensation, download SGS touchscreen booster from market, install it, press on super optimized, and pull first 3 collums on end left, and 2 last on end right, then press apply... your sensation will worke like a charm, you wont have any swipe problems or locking ring... then you can test it and turn back ond defult or uninstal that application and it will still work... hope it helps you like it helped to me... soz for bad english..
Hello guys I have found a way to fix no vibration issues on your SGS2. Its not software related, but more of hardware. It might not work for everyone too. It also doesnt fix it forever, since hardware have already been damaged. Once you apply the fix, use your headphones after that and take it out, vibration will be gone again. Going to your closest service center is still the best option, but I believe most of the community here have rooted their SGS2 which will cost them their warranty, so this fix is for you!
Go to youtube and copy paste this (Galaxy S2 (II) - How to fix vibration dead / not working) Sorry xda have not allowed me to post links yet so this gotta be a little more manual

Hmmm... I am going through a similar problem... I've noticed that when this unresponsiveness occurs and I keep my phone for charging the touch becomes normal again. But as soon as I disconnect the problem comes back.
I had this issue before too. When I was on TheFrankestains miui v10.5... And now I am on RemICS v2.
I'll like to mention here that on v1 of RemICS I didn't face this issue. In v2 the developer did mention a change in the kernel.
Also another er thing with the unresponsiveness the bln is acting weird too. Now I don't know what to conclude from all this.
And ya when it had occurred before I did take it to the customer service. And all they did was remove my screen guard and reflash the stock. :what:
The problem disappeared that time but it has resurfaced again. :sly:

Even I'm facing this issue and thats the exact reason i'm not going to service center. I doubt its a H/W issue cause the screen does work! If it had been a H/W problem then the shouldnt have been any touch response!
Its might be similar to backlight issue but too bad we're facing it on stock aswell.
I had posted a logcat in the dev ICS thread but no response from anyone.
If there are more people facing this issue then please come forward.
I got only one phone. . And i cant use it.

I'm on ICS Alpha V6 . I get this problem occasionally.
Problem occurs when i get a call and the touch becomes unresponsive. Not all the times but sometime. If i lock the screen and unlock it becomes proper. Sometimes it takes 2-3 locks and unlocks. Weird. Never had this problem in stock before .
Everytime this problem starts after a call. Happens on stock as well as custom Roms. Can't figure out if it's software or hardware problem. But the touch becomes normal when the phone's kept on charging.
Anyways going back to the customer service tomorrow. Will tell them to change the touch panel.

Probably Hardware, i am using RemICS v2 and NOT experiencing this issue on both my device and my sister's device (tried the call thing too)
I advise you guys to go to the service center (without a screen protector) and with the stock rom (so they don't have to flash anything) so they see it live, and hence there's no point of flashing stock again (over stock lulz) they'll probably change the screen for you.
i have the same problem now.. i dunno if i will ever get this phone fixed. my warranty's expired for a month.

Everyone needs Help here dude...!!!
Same problem for everyone...
is it more likely to be a hardware issue??
It is a Hardware issue.
I gave my phone to the Service Centre yesterday. I called them today to check on the status. They said it's a hardware issue so they'll give it tomorrow. Let's hope for the best...
BTW I will get an extended warranty on the replaced part, won't I?

And the problem is back. Not entirely though.
After deep sleep if I unlock the phone, the touchscreen doesn't work. I have to lock and unlock to get it working.
After unlocking, once the display goes off, the menu and back keys stop working. Have to lock unlock again.
Had flashed cm9 stock kernel yesterday morning since gps isn't working for me in UCv15. Didn't face any problem yesterday after flashing stock kernel.

by back cover you mean protective case? if so, yes i do!
and the touch panel means the digitizer right?
has any noticed "jitters" with there phone screens becuase ive notived lately that my phone "jitters" ( kinda like a reception issue i guess ) were the screen flickers on an off and im needing help in regards to fixing this issue ( IF IT CAN BE FIXED ) or do i need to send my phone into samsung to get replaced please let me know
I would get a replacement.. sounds like hardware failure
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
That happened to me and I had to get a replacement. Started off being a sporadic issue and progressively got worse, to the point where o could not use my phone when it happened. The phone would flicker a charcoal grey color, this would cover the entire screen except the notification bar. It hasn't happened with the replacement.

i found the issue it wasn't hardware failure or rom is was actually using the TWRP 2.4 recovery i tested it with 3 of the roms i normally run as dailies ( tweaked 2.2 slim 3.1.0 Struck and PAC 4.1.2 and it jittered the screens like bad ( kinda like a computer that when it gets popped with a magnet / or older tv having f|_|cked up reception so i changed the recoveries and viola no more jitters so apparently the TWRP doesn't like blaze owners ( at least me lol ) but if there's anyone else experiencing these issues narrow down first before you consult a replacement
