Played with Galaxy note and was not impress... - Asus Transformer TF700

i drove 45 minutes today cause it seem i made a mistake buying the infinity since i keep reading on how good the galaxy note 10.1 is. Played with it and found myself hating the screen (low res), the salutated colors and the cartoony touchwiz. Even though i own a galaxy S3 cannot live with a touchwiz tablet. Yes great speed but it was not enjoyable because of the lowres screen. I also prefer in a table ASOP just like Asus which keeps a ICS stock look.
What i was impress was seen 2 TF300 next to each other. One running ICS and the other JB. I was shock to see how smooth JB was and how choppy ICS was just like our infinity right now. JB is much more fluid than even the Galaxy note 10.1. Thats when i saw the potential of our tablet when we get JB upgrade and how polish it will be.
thanx for reading.

I hope they'll solve also a lot of issues in ics with jb update. First of all random reboots and Bluetooth audio lag.

Jelly Bean adds a lot more smoothness because of the way images are rendered, but don't expect it will resolve all your problems. There will be more Asus updates, and custom roms/kernels will be the key to getting a perfect tablet experience.

I had Galaxy Note 10.1 for about 3 full week. It's darn stable. I got only 5 or so force close during entire three weeks of use. Browser was very fast. But in the end I came back to Infinity because I just cannot deal with non FHD screen. But I truly hope ASUS's future update brings stability and speed to its full potential.
Never saw JB in live so I hope your impression is right, and directly translates to our unit. Especially since they are taking so long to bring update to its flagship model (infinity), all I can hope is they are taking extra time to fix more than simple JB port. Because we know on Zeus, IO can match that of Galaxy Note 10.1 at least on benchmark.

Thank you, this is good to hear. With the additional time that Asus is taking on JB for the 700, one can hope it might be even better. At least the bugs worked out of it.

I'm confused, isn't this the Asus Infinity forum area?

How happy are you with your transformer

How happy are you with you TF? I want a 10" tablet and I'm considering the Tf. I'm also considering the Tf prime. The tf1 price will probably come down once the Christmas season is over so now I'm trying to decide on the tf1 or the tf prime.
What I want it to do is be an entertainment device. I'm not using it for spreadsheet or anything like that. I want it to surf the web, watch movies, play games, and in general have fun and kill time with.
What are your thoughts? Are you happy with your purchase?
I have a rooted nook color now and its ok but a little slow sometimes. Anyone have both and can tell me if the Tf is much better?
I have played with a Tf at bestbuy and it seemed laggy at times is this common or was it's memory overloaded with crap from everyone opening different apps all the time?
I love it, with and without the dock. Still I use it only in landscape mode the other mode (what is the name of it?) is slow and laggy indeed... but why would you use that if it is designed for landscape....
I haven't tried any costum rom YET but the video's I saw are fast and very smooth! Check some video's of it, it's called "revolver" rom. Also I think android ICS (4.0) will be much better with dual cores, it's still in "beta" the dual core support...
I originally got it to do one or two things but I've found I have used it a lot more and for a lot more things than I had originally planned. I did get the dock with it, but to be honest it's not something I have really used much yet. Overall I love it and haven't regretted buying it. The wife has stole it on more than one occasion as well. The only lag I've noticed is using in Portrait mode or when using Live wallpaper, but it's not particularly bad, and something that an overclock may fix.
I love it. The only gripe is the fingerprints on the screen but then they all suffer from that. I would not even think about moving to the Prime - this does everything I need and at a reasonable speed and with good battery life. I started out with the Stock ROM but have been on the Revolution ROM for ages. I did not buy the dock (and would not have used it). I use it for ebooks, magazines, mobile email, mobile document editing and a bit of multimedia. To be honest, though, most of my music is on itunes (which i listen to on my iphone - the size is much more convenient) and I tend to watch films on the television!
PS - @Cmdrx3 - with overclocking, there is no lag at all and little effect on battery life.
The overal experience is not always smooth as butter but it's nothing like you can experience when you try an démo model in a store. I don't know what people are doing with those devices but that's not at all how my transformer works.
Now, I'm perfectly happy with my transformer (with dock) there is no major flaw that would make my regret my buy.
But, it's a first version of a product, It was en experimentation from Asus, a brillant one, but still, the transformer have flaws. there is some build hiccup, the screen is good but not perfect, the typing suffer from lagging on some website and it's difficult to watch high definition movie without reencoding first, the microphone is ****ty and cams pretty bad too.
So, my advice, If you can afford it, take the Prime with keyboard dock (the dock is awesome, it's not just a keyboard it's a all in one accesorie, case / screen protection / stand up dock / keyboard / extra battery / additionnal port (I also heard there 's an additionnal speaker in the prime dock for an even better sound, but i'm not sure).
It's looking to be a much much much better device than the original transformer and you won't feel like you bought an already outdated device.
If you can't afford it, i'm pretty sure the first Transformer is still a really good deal, especially if you can find it really cheap. And with the addition of ice Cream sandwich it should get a second youth.
I am very happy with my ASUS Transformer. Support is also good. I am not happy with Android OS. Looks more like smartphone OS on steroids on a big screen, rather than fully functional tablet OS. Browser crashes and it's not smooth. Most apps do not resize properly.
It's a good device for casual browsing and palying some games, but when it comes to doing some work it's not very comfortable. The dock also it's not very usefull. I am having problems writing on my native language (there is no stock keyboard layout). Most of the apps are not optimised to work with keyboard.
I hope ICS makes tablets fully functional. Still my TF looks like a fancy toy.
I can't agree with above comment. I do think honey comb is great and i do work with the tablet and dock in the school and it does a decent job. Of course it could do better especially as i take pics as notes on the blackboard, so higher res camera would help. All in all i am very satisfied with the tab.

guys, my first tab was a scroll 7inch tab, then a hannspad, now to this, so iv went from cheap tab to decent tab to expensive tab, so my enjoyment has went from not too good to not bad, to effing amazing, i luckily havnt had any bad experiences with this tab, compared to so many tabs, it is in a league of its own .

im freakin ecstatic about my TF now that I can root! ah man work cant end soon enough. I cant wait to get home
10/10 now it is rooted. It's like it is on steroids using the revolver rom. 8/10 for the stock rom as i had 2 probs, laggy keyboard on the web browser and web browser closing unexpectedly. Both solved now.
I'm 10/10 with my TF101 and will stay that way as long as their is a line of successor products (Android based NOT Windows 8). That way when it really is upgrade time, I can retire my TF101 and get the current latest and greatest. Other wise I'll have to switch back to a netbook or go pure tablet, once my TF101 is to old.

How well does the tf101 multitask? I want to use it at work where I will be showing pictures and taking people's info and will need to switch between the two quickly. Will the tf101 do what I want it to or should I get the prime?
You could wait for the Prime.
I'm a TF Owner for 6 months now. I was one of the biggest haters of tablets but count me as converted. I love my TF and can't see myself using any other tablet.

Multi tasking is great but our does depend on the number of apps running in the background. But you can easily switch between running apps.
I love this tablet, I an do glad that I opted for the TF instead of the galaxy tab. I use it for hours everyday... Everything from watching hd movies, streaming media, writing invoices and proposals for my business (via quickbooks mobile app) view all my school books with course smart, web surf etc... I barely use my pc our laptop anymore, and when I do need to 50% of the time I remotely operate them with my TF via splash top HD.
Worth every penny I paid. I will get the prime in a few months, but I'll wait til development is established.

About TFWiz Port and what it brings to EEE Pad.

Hi everyone,
To quickly introduce myself to the huge XDA Community :
My nickname is Lutherian (obviously !), I'm 28 years old and from France. I discovered XDA Forums while looking for a way to Root my Galaxy S. Thanks to a lot of people here (I wasn't member at this time so I didn't know about the "Thanks"), I discovered a lot of things about Android and Custom Roms.
Now I own a EEE Pad Transformer and I'm waiting for a ICS Stock or Custom rom (I think I'm not the only one waiting here...) and I was so bored waiting for Revolver 4.0, HD Revolution 2.4, KRAKD x.x or Prime 2.x and the early (but promising) ports of ICS to come that I tried the TouchWiz port for the EEE Pad.
Warning, not for everyday use !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447836
I didn't liked TouchWiz when I was on my Galaxy S i9000 (that was the main reason I turned to CyanogenMod 7 and now, Teamhacksung's CM9), but on the EEE Pad, I can really see the difference : the menus are clearer, the font is perfect, there's a lot of little things that makes Honeycomb a lot better. For an exemple, the settings menu seems to breath now.
Don't get me wrong : I love the "TRON" aspect of ICS and HoneyComb but ICS is so late on TF101...
When I booted the EEE Pad for the first time, I was kindda happy that Asus didn't bring a lot of useless things I didn't liked on Galaxy S but when I looked on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, I realized that Samsung did a great job.
And you, what do you think about this port ? Do you own a Galaxy Tab and like/dislike TouchWiz ?
I own a SGS II and do not really like TouchWiz, I use GO Launcher EX and have actually uninstalled TouchWiz Launcher.
The only thing i really like about touchwiz are the various widgets they have. Thats the only thing i miss.
as for the theme of the ui itself, its not bad, but i too am waiting for ICS
Personally I like only one thing in TouchWiz - mini apps. This is a great idea and I really would like to see it in AOSP Honeycomb/ICS. Apart from that TouchWiz is too iPad-like for me. I prefer dark style of AOSP HC/ICS.

Is it just me or anyone starts to feel awkward about TF700 too?

Hello all,
I don't know why but, recently all I have read from this forum is "how bad Infinity TF700 is" or "how he/she decided to switch Samsung/Ipad etc. over Infinity". I don't know, it just makes me feel more and more paranoid about my tablet.
I know this sounds quite naive, but is there anyone who feels the same way?
You're not alone. I'm very dissappointed with the quality and performance that 600 dollars got me. Not to mention the poor quality of dock (pivot so stiff it would've broken my screen and partially attached SD card cable) that cost me another 116 bucks. Hopefully they're taking their time releasing Jelly Bean update so that things get fixed correctly and not do a half-a$$ed job

If you have a working unit, and whatever you do is covered and you are happy with it, I think you shouldn't be concerned about.
It's just simply no device is perfect and that's always the case with technology. So we all have to compromise something and sometimes the compromise is not noticeable as you may not even use those functions.
Infinity has gorgeous screen, attachable keyboard, and ASUS's reputation of quick software update. Though I myself left Infinity (at least for now), there are still people like me coming back to this forum as we still liked infinity in many aspect and hoping the issues we faced get fixed (presumably by software).
Personally, jumping from iPad 2 and Galaxy Tablet 10.1 4G, I noticed gorgeous screen of infinity quickly. Then some application launching much faster than my old Galaxy Tablet. But battery life, frequent ANR, much slower browser load time (this was actually fixed most part after applying d's tweaking tip), and unexpected crashes.
But to be honest, if I didn't use my primarily Flash sites, if I didn't need full day battery (without keyboard), I probably wouldn't even noticed any issue of infinity.
I currently have Galaxy Note 10.1. Is it perfect? No. Everything but FHD I say yes. But FHD is such a huge component because I read many ebooks with detailed pictures... So I am still torn.
Again, nothing is perfect. You just need to put a priority of what's important to you. With future updates, Infinity will get better not worse, so that's promising. But I wouldn't count on saying, with JB update everything will be perfect.
I personally love mine, and would recommend it to others. Not to suggest that there are no issues, but I'd be willing to bet that the silent majority of people are just getting along and enjoying their device and not posting here.

I've been enjoying my TF700 Infinity more and more as I've seen the performance improve with the Zeus custom rom, so I don't let the complaints get me down. Many people are just wondering what is normal for the device, and some are just looking for assistance. I think it's to be expected with a new device, especially one so complex. The same thing happened with the Nexus 7 forum...for the first month or so, all you would read would be the most pitiful complaints, people on their 7th Nexus 7, light bleed, lifting screens and dead pixels, slow development, and then, all of a sudden, the Nexus 7 is everyone's darling.
If you love your Infinity, enjoy it. You're an early adopter, so there are always risks with something new that pushes bounderies.
Personally I love my TF700. Use it all the time. Love the battery life with the dock (practically always together). I am just waiting for some custom ROMs, or preferably a dualboot for Linux/Android.
Maybe i'm not a stickler when it comes to the "defects", but I am satisfied that the tablet works, has an amazing screen, gives me amazing battery life, has a true keyboard dock (not BT), and a USB port, among other things. I look at the positive things, and since none of the "defects" really take away from the performance, I don't have much to complain about. (on top of that, I haven't even installed Zeus v4, still stock, and I hear that will make a world of a difference.)

I know if I keep scoping mine I'll find something...only then will I be mad but happy I noticed something
is this the first time you ever read a forum? look at any forum - literally any forum about any application/device in existence... there's always someone complaining about something.
your shiny new touch device gets fingerprints on the screen when you touch it with dirty hands? the speakers sound crappy when you try to play music at absurdly high volumes? you opened 10 games and the device feels slow? people can actually beat you in a game? the meat you bought 2 months ago is rotten? the device you damaged yourself is not replaced for free?
it's always the same vocal minority that HAS to complain about something, no matter how unimportant or stupid it is.

Same here, mine is great. I have none of the issues that users complain about frequently. Only thing is that yes, it does tend to lag, but then again, it is the most powerful tegra 3 so its just a software issue i'm sure asus will fix
I feel awkward about ASUS, they are behaving very slow with the Infinity.
Back when the Transformer Prime was their most current Android tablet we saw biweekly almost weekly firmware updates for the tablet.
It gave us Prime owners the sense that ASUS was actively working to make sure it's customers were getting the best experience.
I've had my Infinity tablet for over a month now since I did the Best Buy exchange, and I haven't seen a single firmware OTA from ASUS.
There's ICS features that the Transformer Prime received in updates that are lacking in the Transformer Pad Infinity.
ASUS spread themselves too thin with the Prime, TF300, Nexus 7, and TF700. They've completely neglected their premium Android tablet products.
We saw the same crap on the Prime forums as well. Funny thing is, I have 2 Primes and 2 Infinity tabs and both work just fine.

You sure the lack of updates doesn't mean that something big, like JB, is coming soon? I'm pretty sure that ASUS would not waste the time and money implementing features on the TF700's ICS if JB were already near completion.
Also, for the prime, the updates mainly served to fix issues, which we don't have on the infinity.
I feel you, I went through the same thing with the prime. I agree the Infinity is not perfect but for me I have a functional one that runs quite well. Don't kid yourself if you think the iPad and the Note don't have issues. Good luck with your decision.

Grain of salt.
Had a thot tho.
I wonder if the TF700T was implemented early to rush the market and beat Samsung and Acer with their new tabs?
Especially the A700 which I don't believe weathered it's hardware bugs too well.
I have a feeling the Infinity was built for Android 4.1...yet does fine with ICS.

Lets be real..lol Infinity has or has had most of same software issues as prime had. Games crashing. Tons of threads here on it. Browser issues. Poor I/O performance. Primes updates were released to add new features and address those things. Infinity pad also had update to address a major issue. Which is I/O performance. It did show a minor to decent improvement but wasn't solved. So its not all peaches n cream over here in Infinity forum either.
BUT
like you said, Asus not likely wasting anymore time on ICS. If jb is that close, no need to waste resources on ICS. So lets all hope it brings the true stability Infinity pad and Prime deserves. Along with new features and any further improvements that can be made, software wise, to better I/O performance. Also get the gaming rigght. No reason my nexus 7 can play any game flawlessly without crashing and the infinity pad and prime can't. I don't need to have any mods or limiting processes or custom roms for my N7 high performance and stability. I have a feeling the real power and performance will be seen on Prime and Infinity pad once JB is released.
Plus I also believe more people who have good working infinity pads should post/male threads and let people know. New people coming Imto forum get scaredoff from so many complaint threads. We know alot of infinity owners have issues. BUT the flipsode is that ALOT have great working units also. There needs to Be a balance being represented. One of the best things the mods on the Prime forum did was to make a dedicated complaints thread. Basically, if you wanted to ***** about your Prime, get it off your chest in that thread otherwise your thread is closed. I think this forum would really benefit from that because this continual posting of negative threads is getting really BORING for people like me who are happy with their Infinitys. Sure, people have a right to complain but why not dump it all in one thread??

The main problems with the prime were wifi and gps issues. Most of the updates were toward those two things, and not toward the other issues you mentioned.
I disagree about your other point, that people should let others know. I believe that people should stop making threads that bash and keep to the threads that already exist. It doesn't do good to look like a marketing shill, either for or against the tablet, no matter the truth of anyone's statements.
Most of the "infinity sucks" posts are from the SAME PEOPLE. Most of these detractors claim to have already sold/returned their Infinity's yet come here over and over again just to troll.
I admit the Infinity has a lot of issues and it is disappointing to me that it has more issues than the TF300 I sold but I will be patient and see if Asus fixes things. I have had enough experience with Asus products to know they are one of the better companies out there when it comes to dealing with issues.

Infinity or Nexus 7?

Hi all,
I'm really torn between these two devices... I'm not sure which would be best to get. I realize that the form factors are miles apart but after reading all the "quirks" about the infinity here I'm swaying on getting the Nexus instead.
I purchased the infinity yesterday and have seen the following "everyday use flaws" (based on my personal experience)
- disabled auto brightness but in dark situations the screen still attempts to auto adjust
- simply holding the device seems as its going to slip out of my hands due to the non textured back
- with the tegra 3 I experienced some choppiness and lag
I realize its only been 24hrs or so and that the new JB update may remedy some of these issues but I was hoping you guys could sway me to stay on the infinity or switch...
Thanks in advance.

That's a really tough question that only you can answer. I will say this - if you go over to the Nexus 7 forums, you'll see just as many (if not more) complaint threads about that device.
I actually own both and in my opinion, they are geared toward different uses. For example, I purchased the Infinity mainly because of the keyboard dock and the high-res screen - I mainly use it when at home or at work. On the other hand, I purchased the Nexus 7 for those times when I'm "on the go" and need a device that is very portable (perfect for use in waiting rooms, while eating lunch at a restaurant, etc) - places that I generally wouldn't take my Infinity to.
Regarding the screen still attempting to auto adjust - that is actually the "SmartDimmer" feature (Asus calls it "Prism" on the Nexus 7). It can be disabled if you root your device and will stop the auto-adjustments. I've actually heard that there will probably be a switch in the Settings app for the smartdimmer in Jelly Bean. I also expect some of the choppiness and lag to go away after the Jelly Bean upgrade for the TF700 as well.
Hope that helps...
EDIT: FYI - Here is link to a post describing how to enable/disable the SmartDimmer:

Do you want a stunning 10inch screen or a smaller 7inch one? That's what you should be asking yourself.

EDIT2: Actually, here is a better link - it contains all sorts of great tweak for your new Infinity (including the SmartDimmer stuff):

This is exactly what I'm thinking about. Use my infinity at home/work and buy a nexus 7 for when I'm out.

Having used both, I can only say that they are totally different devices for different uses, you really have to look at your preference. The Nexus 7 is the fastest Android tablet (thanks to Jelly Bean) and much cheaper. Apart from that, being a Nexus 7, the Nexus 7 will have both timely updates from Google and a vibrant developing community on XDA. The Nexus brand alone is enough for some people to choose it over the Infinity.
On the other hand, the Full HD screen on the Infinity as well as the keyboard dock on the Infinity make it a netbook-worthy replacement. For the past week, I didn't even turn on my laptop. You will be amazed by how much you can achieve with the keyboard dock and a full-size USB.
With all that in mind, I would advise you to wait for a week (to wait for the official JB update from ASUS) and you can have a much better and fairer comparison between the 2 tablets. My guess is that JB will turn the Infinity into a different beast.
and where the heck is that Nexus 10?

[Q] Galaxy Note 10.1 firmware ?

Hi,
I'm really jealous of the Galaxy Note 10.1 features. What Samsung adds to Android is really irresistable.
I'm even consideringto sell my TF101 and buy a Galaxy Note 10.1 with keyboard addon.
But on the other hand, TF101 is still a nice, robust device with long battery time.
So I wonder, if it is possible to make a custom ROM with features of Samsung Galaxy Note (multi window, popup play etc.)
Can anyone comment ?
Thx.
I'd appreciate any comment. even if negative
I think it is a nice thought, however the issue is that the TF101 is a 20 month old device. There is very little development going on with it, most of the development currently is timduru working on the TeamEOS 4 ROM. The TF101 is a more than capable device, but most developers have moved on to newer and more powerful devices to work on.

you may be correct but I don't see any similar development on the newer devices either.
actually nobody seems interested in what Samsung has done with the features of Note (multi window etc.)
so what's the deal ? Is it too difficult to port it ?
decided to purchase a galaxy note 10.1 selling my TF101
in any case it is a better device I believe.
Any contrary ideas ?
The two things holding me back from jumping ship:
I will miss my keyboard dock. A BT keyboard will just not be the same for me.
If I get a new 10" tablet, it is going to be a minimum of 1920x1200 display.
But, that is my opinion. I cannot justify dropping money on a new tablet like the Note 10.1 when my TF101 is still rockin out. But, I can see the desire for the multi-tasking. I am jealous of it, just not enough to sell my trusty TF101 yet...
There is a keyboard for the Note 10.1.
Not bluetooth, directly connected from the 30pin connector. And it is originally Samsung keyboard. Just doesn't have an extra battery like Asus
About the display, you are right. 1280x800 is not just enough for a tablet on 2013. But in any case, there is no other tablet with an S-Pen and Full HD display.
