High End Gaming Keyboard and Mouse? - Asus Transformer TF700

My TF700 is in the mail (after a big Futureshop Headache...) What I'm looking to do is use Splashtop THD to feed the Games from my PC to the tablet over local network games like Guild Wars 2. and I need a Good Keyboard to make this feel right.
I know I can buy the Dock but seems like some company are just putting a sticking a sticker over the TF201 dock and calling it the tf700... so tricky to trust where to buy that one. Because if i Did get that I would want it to be the REAL tf700 and match in Color. But I see that there are no "F" keys (EX: F1 F2..) so I thought for less then $150 I could get a kick ass Keyboard (Bluetooth I would assume). But will the "F" keys work? and any one know a good one? It seems quite hard to find one, all seem to be little portable ones.
Thanks,

No one knows of any?
Just got my TF700! Working good so far
I tried splashtop THD and Guild Wars 2 is running good, but still need a key board.

thanks for the share. I play CS most of the time. And i was searching a gaming keyboard and mouse.

My Logitech G15/G9 combo has served me well throughout the years!

I have a G15 but that is not a Wireless Keyboard and the Huge (but I do love it).
I think I came up with a option that will work. I just going to put a super long USB extension cord from my Computer in the basement into the drop ceiling and put a USB Dongal for a Wireless keyboard and mouse I already have at the end. That way there will be no lag at all. I already set up a Test one and it worked Excellent!

I need real advice on this issue on the TF Dock

Ok, I love my TF. And I mean it is awesome. And just being to get a Dock/Keyboard is very cool too..
But I am having a hard time buying the keyboard/. Yes I know all the advantages. But this is what my wife says about it. If you wanted a laptop, then why did you get a tablet?
I have no way of arguing with her on this point. But I would use it if I bought one.
So can you guys give me some advice to help me decide?
If your wife doesn't understand why it's better you chance your wife ;-)
Try to show herramientas that with a keyboard you have the best of two worlds. A laptop for some situations a tablet for other.
Enviado desde mi Transformer TF101 usando Tapatalk
I enjoy having the keyboard dock simply because it bridges the gap between a tablet and a netbook. In addition to all the features it offers typing is so much more convenient while still experiencing the touch screen of the tab itself (whenever I use mine or my wife's laptop I actually try to scroll on the screen...).
You can ask your wife to remove the screen from a netbook when you want to use it separately . I'd say go for it! According to ASUS it will also be compatible for future tablets.
Now having the keyboard dock, I wish i didn't. I wish i would have picked up a good bt keyboard that i could interchange with my cellphone/htpc/future cell./future tablet. my .02
It all comes down to what your main purpose/use for the dock is. I personally like that you can hook up external drives etc. without issues, take screenshots, have dedicated android shortcuts and so on. I had a BT keyboard for my XOOM but it wasn't that great (admittedly, it was a cheap generic Apple keyboard that I taught some android shortcuts). If it's just for the sake of typing on a keyboard then yes, maybe it's better to get a good wireless (BT) keyboard that works with other BT devices. If you want connectivity and expandability then the dock is the best (only?) solution.

For me, I enjoyed using the tablet only. I got the keyboard/dock so I could type faster, and keep the tablet charged. Sometimes I use the USB & SD slots, too.
What happens now: I leave the tablet in the dock most of the time. I only disconnect the tablet when I want to read or play something that works better without a keyboard/dock.
The dock transforms your use from primary tablet, to primary tablet/dock. HTH.
One of the ways I justified it is that with any other tablet you have to buy a BT keyboard anyways, and in addition the dock when folded PROTECTS the tab's glass, basically eliminating the need for a case or sleeve
+1 To " get a new wife"
I make good use of the extra USB, SD, and battery so its really justified for me.
And +1 to fldude99 about protecting the glass. If you think it will benefit you for what you do with the tab then get it. I for one, love it.
I decided to go ahead and get one. Found a brand new one for $123.00. I can always use it on the next transformer I get that happens to have a number 2 next to it.
good for you, oh, and a word of advice, you might like to know what one would do about the weird trackpad and scrolling problems, and that is this: get a usb mouse... It works great with the dock and makes for the full "netbook" experience. (I would go for a wired one though because I occassionally have problems with my wireless one)
hope I could make your experience a little easier
cost with dock and tf is about 5 or 600 cost for new laptop, over 700 dollars. point made

Considering I got my TF + Dock for $230 shipped brand new, Im thrilled with this thing. The dock is amazing because it gives you the flexibility to work or play. It's very portable with or without the dock, but I usually take just the TF with me when I go places and I dock it the second I get home. Not to mention the extra battery life is a blessing. I say go for it man, you won't regret it.

It makes typing a hundred times easier and the extra battery are the main reasons I love the dock.

(1) Laptop battery doesn't last 16 hours.
(2) Laptop can't transform into a tablet when you just want a tablet.
(3) Laptop doesn't have multi-touch capacitive screen.
(4) Laptop feels like an anchor.
Just a few off the top of my head.
I've found that people, ipad users in particular, have a hard time understanding choice. To them the issue is whether you want a tablet or a laptop. What if you want both but don't want to carry a laptop and a tablet around?
Earlier today someone on the train asked me just this question. She was crazy about her ipad 2. So, we talked about our tablets because she was curious about what I have. The question inevitably came up. Why didn't I just get a laptop? I gave her my short answer, which was "I like having the choice to either have a laptop or a tablet". She just gave me a blank look.
This goes back to what I've been saying for months. Apple has done a very good job at convincing people that you cannot be productive with your ipad. You need a laptop for that, preferably the macbook air. So, this woman, like so many others I've talked to, was puzzled why I wanted to do work with my tablet. She couldn't imagine typing for too long on her ipad because the softkeys are just horrible to type on if you're doing substantial typing. Even after I plugged my Tf into the dock, she still had trouble understanding how I could work with a tablet. I had to show her some documents I had put together on nothing but the TF and my powerpoint presentation.
By the time she got up to get off the train at her stop, I still got the feeling that she was still not convinced you could be useful with the tablet platform.
Last month, ,I read an article that claimed the author believed strongy the future will belong to the tablet-notebook hybrids. I guess only time will tell. I agree with that article, though.
i damaged my tablet by packing it with an extension cord for a flight - the prongs dug deep into the screen and damaged it somewhat - d'oh
so i picked up the keyboard primarily so that it could protect the screen
what i got was a keyboard that seems even better made than the tablet
i like the keyboard too for note-taking or long emails, while keeping the tactile yumminess of a touchscreen

[Q] Keyboard help

I currently have an Acer A500 tab, and I mainly chose this for its usb slot(best thing ever created on a tab).
However, I am looking at getting the Asus Prime because I need the Tegra 3...NOW! lol.
I hope you guys can answer my questions.
How do you like your keyboard? I want the keyboard for the usb and super battery life, but It feels like the keyboard would be trouble when you dont want it, or you want to use your tab in portrait mode. Is it an inconvenience carrying around a keyboard for "just in case I need it" situations?
Also can you turn the tab around on the keyboard and fold it so the keys are touching the back of the tab? (I dont think so but thats why I am asking).
I love my Acer and I like the Asus. Amazing tabs with there own pros and cons. But I am very interested in the prime and and help would be appreciated.
I love this tablet. Have had this thing for four days now and I'm very happy with it. And i love the keyboard! I actually thought about not buying the keyboard but I am so happy I did. The extra battery is so great. Can go a long time without needing to charge. You can't turn the tablet around and shut it backwards against the keys. And I have no trouble keeping the tablet handy when im not using it. I definately suggest getting this, especially now that the Prime has the Tegra 3!
Do whatever you can to see the 1015PE and similar Eee PC netbooks by ASUS. Something that made it easier to buy in to the TF101, the keyboard is virtually the same as my netbook, which was just a smidge smaller than my laptop with fn/ctrl swapped. It's as good as you are going to get without a standard keyboard.
I carry mine in a backpack, otherwise my tablet is rarely longer than arms length away and the dock a room away at best. Thus when I'm out, the worst I can get is dealing with my pack
Nevver tried docking it that way but it is inconvienent to desire (or require) portrait mode with the dock. If you have a lame app like PayPal that goes Portrait Only, you pretty much can **** your head to the side or undock.

What do you use your keyboard for?

I am thinking of buying the keyboard. Does it just work for text input anywhere the onscreen keyboard shows up? Email is the obvious use but what else is it good for... which doc editor does it really shine with?
...sent from Infinity
It "just works" everywhere. It's completely seamless - all apps work with the keyboard by default.
I probably keep my Infinity docked 90% of the time (if not more) - it also works great as a stand for the device for when you are watching videos, etc...
The only downside is that I find myself constantly trying to "touch" my laptop screen when at work (I have a regular work-supplied laptop that I use at work, along with my Infinity, which I mainly use for note-taking while at work)....
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
Ya i'd say the reason i got the transformer is because of the keyboard. I use it 99% of the time while docked. Use the dock for USB, use it for the full sized SD cardslot, use it for the keyboard, hell even some java heavy sites i use it for the touchpad for those "mouse hover" things in the web browser.
Its great for keeping the tablet standing up when your watching a movie or video chatting
I also have the problem where now i always go to touch screens of laptops because im used to touching links or icons on my tablet XD
Oh! and dont forget the extra battery capacity!
All in all, $150 is a bit steep for the keyboard dock, see if you can get an opened box for closer to $100 and its a great deal!
I use my Infinity keyboard to chop sandwiches in half.
I had the keyboard for my TF101 and never used the dock for anything more than a stand, a USB port and an extended battery. Now that I own a backpack with a 6000mAH battery built into it, a leather case that acts well as a stand, and the USB kit, I get all the same functionality without the added bulk or weight of the keyboard dock. Plus I have my trusted Motorola Bluetooth keyboard in case I ever want to use a keyboard on my Infinity.
My suggestion, buy the keyboard dock and try it. Its not for everyone.

Do you mean a backpack, the kind you throw over your shoulder, with a battery sewn into it? You run a cable between your backpack and the tablet? Or something that attaches to the back of the tablet? I don't know of this product.
Thanks!

My backpack is a PowerPack Deluxe Backpack. http://www.mypowerbag.com/backpacks/backpack-6000.html
The company produces a handful of backpacks, messenger bags and even some briefcases all with a battery and charge cables built right into the bag. They are expensive though. I would recommend buying it from Amazon, my Deluxe bag was like $35 cheaper there.

A word of warning about my backpack though... it maxes out at 500mA charging power. Every tablet I have seen uses a 1000mA charger, including the Infinity and the TF300 (most cell phones charge at ~500mA). The backpack will in fact charge my Infinity but I can't be using the tablet, it must be in the Power Save mode and the screen must be asleep. It takes a while too but I does charge it.
I personally don't travel enough to have a problem with it but I can see why my backpack solution isn't great for everyone. I mostly use my backpack for charging my Galaxy Nexus, not any tablets but I do know of works. You could always buy some sort of portable charger/battery that is standalone and put it in whatever bag you have already. It would be cheaper and you may be able to find one that charges devices at 1000mA. If I had to do it over again, the standalone battery idea would be very tempting.

As a writer, I use the keyboard a lot. Personally I use Kingsoft Office. It does have a bit of a "Oi, Slow the bloody hell down silly woman!" issue when I get over 100 words per minute, but other than that it works fine.
The keyboard works everywhere, and pretty much like a normal keyboard.
Typing on the homescreen makes Google Search search for your entry both online and internally.
The arrow keys can be used to navigate between the homescreens and the items. Enter launches the selected app.
Every app supports the keyboard, where there is a point. (Games like angry birds are obviously not about a keyboard.)
Most videoplayers can be controlled with the keys. (BS, MX) (spacebar for pause, etc) This makes us all OCD a bit less over the screen cleanness.
It also makes a very useful stand for watching videos, or when don't want to hold it and prefer to rest it on your lap. (Since there's no heatable hardware in the keyboard, it doesn't overheat the way a laptop would.) Since you can rest it on a table, you can easily plug in an external harddrive and run larger films from that.
And the extra battery is a real treasure.
And it's a fantastic screen protector during travel, since it folds like a laptop.

[Q] BT Keyboard

Anyone using a BT keyboard with the Infinity.
How is support, how well is it working. Does it work at all?
I do not really need the dock but writing long texts really needs a keyboard.
So I thought a cheaper BT keyboard may be an option.
The problem with BT keyboards is that you never have them when you need them. Since it's just something else to carry around, it's just not practical enough for a mobile device, in my opinion. Thats where the keyboard dock really shines - it's always there when you need it and serves many other purposes besides the keyboard itself. Trust me - you won't regret the purchase - it's worth the extra $$! It's a one-time cost over a few years that you'll own the device - no batteries to worry about, etc.
That being said, I'm sure any old bluetooth keyboard will work. I personally use a BT mouse when I'm at home or at the office (have one that I leave at each location) since the trackpad is a real PIA when you need to type (I find that I have to constantly enable/disable it, so I tend not to use it that much)....

That was not the question.
But to prevent further posts like this:
I plan to use the keyboard at home only.
I do not need a keyboard when I'm not at home.
Again, as I did state above - yes, any old bluetooth keyboard should work fine - I've even connected the Apple bluetooth keyboard to my Transformer devices... Was just trying to give some friendly advice based on experience with BT keyboards - the dock is just so much more useful...

I was using my apple keyboard with my TF700 until I got the dock. It seemed to work pretty well.
Find a keyboard that is comfortable for you. Don't look at prices until after.
I find the apple keyboard comfortable but as a keyboard it's pretty expensive. I only had it as a spare because my Mac broke and only have Windows/Linux machines now.
I am using the Logitech Android Tablet bluetooth keyboard (and tablet mouse) with my TF700.
I must say, it is absolutely awesome. I was going to buy a dock, but I am kinda glad I didn't. But opinions on dock vs. BT keyboard aside, it functions very well.
I am running CM10 on here, and I am not having any compatibility issues. The only current issue, is that the keylayout settings that appears in the notifications force-closes when launched.
Any questions, feel free to ask me.
Also, this post was typed with said keyboard

I have the Freedom Pro Portable Keyboard. It works well. And with the HID setting on the keyboard, just sync and go. It got setting for SPP blue tooth for Android versions under 3.1, which requires a separate app to use the keyboard.
I already my keyboard for the reason you stated, but for at work. You may want to get or build some kind of stand so you can use the keyboard and prop the Infinity.
i'm actually going to purchase the Zagg ZAGGkeys FLEX bluetooth keyboard to use with my Infinity as well as my phone (GSII, soon to be Gnote2). I have the dock for my tf101, and to be honest, it gets no play with me. the problem is that i have to carry it around and also take off my gumdrop case to use it...for me the hassle outweighs the funtionality and batter life (which i find excellent on asus tabs). so a BT keyboard works well for me and after researching I have found that the ZaggKeys and the Logitech are the top two to choose from. I'm going with the ZaggKeys due to the batter life being better and it having USB charging. I also like how it is designed and the iOS functionality (although i read that the logitech works well with iOS as well, even if it says it is for android).
here is an amazon.com link for it: http://amzn.com/B00695OFE2
I own the basic model Logitech BT keyboard, and I must say that it serves me well for when I need to type notes or be at the keys. I spent roughly 60 dollars for it. I also purchased the ASUS usb dongle for about 10 dollars from amazon (shipping included) and I must say that combined with the BT keyboard..I do not need anything else. I had a dock with the 101 but honestly it added unneeded weight to my bag (whole reason for buying the expensive tablet was to cut down on bag weight) the battery difference was negligible and it had more features then I needed.
Ultimately it all comes down to personal preference and need for the features offered in the dock, but I have found that for 70 dollars I can have all the functionality that the dock offers except for the battery, and at half the price, as well as weight.
The USB dongles are a tad difficult to get your hands on because they are not sold in stores and always sold out online, but if you can get one they are a great little thing to have and weigh less then nothing honestly.

i think that you can save your money and, maybe, buy some wireless and much cheaper keyboard... you don't need the keyboard dock to play games... so it is better to buy mouse and wireless keyboard saving some money
If we consider both it is a matter of opinion and use.
dock = $123 amazon, includes usb port, sdd card access, charging, and a decent keyboard.
no dock = usb port $25, usb to sdd card $10, android bluetooth mouse and keyboard $90 - can't charge while using usb, with most cases tf300 has to be inverted to place usb at the top for use, charging, and orientation can be an issue when it switches to portrait mode plus power button hard to access when placed at the bottom.
Personal preference!
Keyboard dock @ gamestop!!!
MAN i got my whole setup from game stop...
if you have some old games you dont want trades are up on doubles right now through the weekend...
I FREAKIN LOVE IT... the key board is smooth to use, has a very reflexive touch pad and it normally takes me about 2 days to kill all of my battery with the power on max performance... GAMESTOP will even demo it for you...to let you get a feel for it... i like it WAY better than my laptop.... its like having a notebook...so...like he ^ said...user prefence... you decide...i think its well worth the buy...

Buy the dock. Very well done.
also, I just smashed my screen this week.
for 4 months it lived in the dock in my backpack, and I would just pop it out of the dock if I didn't want the keyboard...
I got a big ole silicone case for just the tablet last week. took 1 week out of the dock for the screen to get smashed...
buy the dock because when you dock it, the battery in the dock, initiates a charge on the tablet battery until the dock is drained completely... then you can undock it with a full charge, or a lot of charge at least... and take the tablet further if need be.
the battery in the dock gives you STUPID awesome battery life.
it's only $150 full retail price for the dock with battery inside it.
I'm looking at $200 to replace my digitizer/screen.
dude. Get the dock. you're droppin all that dough for the Transformer tf300... get the $150 dock too!

facebook is awesome to use on it especially with new update for the jb. when asus designed it they definitly put the best of the small size to match the tablet and the versatility of a fully functioning keyboard... you can even use macros like you would on your pc like ctrl-c and such with some setting adjustments. i like how fast i can type without switching between sym and abc especially if you message or type alot like me. and i personally cant stand having to touch keys on top of my text where i CANT SEE what im typing...or crane my neck to see my screen when i lay down to use it...and unlike my bulky 22" laptop, it actually FITS MY LAP!!!... so yeah... I deefinitely would recommend this for ANY & EVERYONE USING AN ASUS TRANSFORMER... besides...who of all your other friends have tablets and how many can go BAAAMMM!!! MY TABLET IS NOW A LAPTOP!!!???... BUT like i said go to bestbuy or gamestop an take a test drive my friend...well worth it...hope i helped...message me if you have any other questions...
P.S. the dock also has a usb port which i love using with my 500GB external HDD and external bluray/dvd/cd burner, and a regular sd card slot so if you have a camera with old school sd cards you can just upload pics to FB etc all from your ASUS or but the micro to sd adapter for like 5 bucks and edit stuff from your phone...the possibilities are endless with this thing...AND quick buttons for all your settings and programs right infront of you at your finger tips.
P.P.S- IF ANYONE FROM ASUS IS WATCHING THESE POSTS, I WOULD SUGGEST HAVING A CHAT WITH BEATS AUDIO AND INSTALL TWO LITTLE SPEAKERS AT THE FRONT BOTTOM OF THE DOCK (LIKE HP AND DELL HAVE THEIR LAPTOPS SET UP) FOR WATCHING MOVIES/NETFLIX, LISTENING TO MUSIC AND PLAYING GAMES, ETC. GIVE THE BIG COMPANIES A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY!

i got the tf300t dock and have used it happly the BATTERY LIFE IS HUGH WITH THE DOCK get one youl love it
If your still thinking about it, just get it. 88.00 USD on amazon. its amazing since it adds more batter life, sd storage and usb connection. Wouldnt recommend docking it and carrying it like a laptop though, iv'e heard people cracking their screens from it.
The only reason I buy this tablet is because of it's dock. If this tablet didn't have a keyboard dock like this, I wouldn't even consider this tablet.
I use this keyboard mainly for school notes and it's portability. So I think this keyboard is really great for me.
The keyboard is a little small so it takes some time to get use to. The mouse touch pad is surprisingly well built.
Depends on what you do with the tablet. If you travel and type a lot with this tablet, I think it's worth it. But if it stays home most of the time, then I think it's better to just buy a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for a much cheaper price.
