Can anyone get these done for me? My tab is mounted in my cars dasboard, in a reverse landscape manner. I need it this way so I can reach the power button and SD card when needed easily.
I've looked and have only seen portrait and landscape.
Thanks ahead of time. Thanks will be given for helpful posts.
Anyone? Perhaps someone could help me figure out how to do it myself?

Extract the bootanimation.zip using winrar>>>>>>>>after extraction two folders(part1,part0) and one desc.txt are created>>>>> open part0>>>>select all images>>>right click and then select rotate counterclockwise >>>>>do the same for part1>>>>>and then select all the folders(part0 and part1) and also the desc.txt file>>>>>right click>>>select add to archive>>>>select the option "ZIP">>>>set the compression method to "STORE">>>>Leave everything else as it is>>>>and name the file bootanimation.zip>>>>paste it in system/media>>>>>ENJOY

To modify the boot animation, extract the ROM, open system/media, extract bootanimation and use fastone photoresizer to modify it. Then zip the folder, zip the ROM and sign it using zip signer and flash it.

Okay, tried the above. Renamed the old bootanimation.zip to boot animation.zip.bak , and pasted the file using ES File Explorer to the same folder.
Rebooted, and instead of the CM10 animation, I got the "ANDROID" animation from way back when, still rotated for portrait...
I rebooted into recovery, fixed permissions, and got the same thing.
I did exactly what you said above, and it looked like everything was right. Changed the Archive Format to .zip from .rar, and Compression Method to Store. Copied it to my SD card, moved it in ES File Explorer after renaming the original file.
GOT IT!
Fixing Permissions didn't do it, I had to manually go in and fix them to match the original file.
Worked perfectly, and looks great. MUCH faster than the SAPIR animation.
Thank you!
For anyone else needing to do this, the correct permissions are...
RW
R
R
nothing happened... where do i wrong?

Hello. I am aware that I can use adb to change my boot animation but I also heard that you can use boot explorer as well but I am not sure how. Can anyone explain? Thanks.

You should be able use Root Explorer to copy the VZW_bootanimation.zip and replace the old one in the \system\customize\resource\ folder then reboot.
May be a product of my Virtuous ROM, but my HW Rev 003 SLCD Dinc has it in /system/media/ Just rename the existing to bootanimation.old and copy a new one in using Root Explorer and it took and ran.
Uh, I have skyraider. In skyraider the old one was in the system/media folder but when I replaced it, nothing happened. Anyone with skyraider?

Ensure you select "mount as R/W" before you try to replace it.
Make sure your new zip file has the exact same name as the old one.
Extract your new zip contents and compare it to the old zip contents to ensure you have all the required files. It should have a text file labeled "desc.txt" and at least one folder labeled "part0".
The text file is basically instructions for how to display the folder contents (which are bunch of png's) so that they make up an animation.
Good luck my friend.
Well, I tried replacing both the shutdown and the boot one and neither worked. The shutdown one is just a blank screen while the boot is still the same. One thing to note though is that the boot screen isn't the Droid eye one but the one with the android dancing. I thought that was supposed to go away after the first boot so that may be a problem. Thanks for the help so far

You rock man! So just a quick glance through YouTube and I found this one. Thought it would be quite fitting for a boot animation. If you can make it with the sound, then this is def the one I want to use. If no sound, I'll find a better one. Thanks a million to the moon and back!

EDIT :
this is animation only and is flashable throught CW.... hope you like it

1. get the sound file and rename it as Android_Audio.mp3
2. edit the desc.txt file with a new line that says p 1 0 Android
3. place the bootanimation.zip file in /data/local
4. place the Android_Audio.mp3 file in data/local (DO NOT PUT THE AUDIO FILE IN THE BOOTANIM ZIP!!)
enjoy!

jejejeje like i mention on my last post this is a FLASHABLE ZIP throught CLOCKWORK RECOVERY.
But if you want to use LIBERTY TOOLBOX what you only need to do is UNZIP the file and you see 2 folders goto DATA then LOCAL and you'll see bootanimation.zip just move/copy that zip file and then use liberty toolbox to finish the installation ....

your welcome dude, i was about to say that LoL, cuz i just downloaded and flash it and work pretty well here too .... even is sound is donde right i doubt is going to work on liberty rom.... i have try doing and bootanimation with sound and isn't working on liberty neither on stock rom...
Try this one, I had to modify the video a little bit and I added the sgt. peppers mp3 to it, it should work.
If you don't like this song, or want to change it, you should be able to do it easily (if you change the song, make sure you call it "sgtpeppers" even though it will be a different song, unless you change the song name in the desc.txt file).
Apply through bootstrap, do not rename to bootanimation.zip.

As someone who pioneered sound on the X, I would just like to point out that sounds work on ANY rom, as long as you do it the right way.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F7V2IPS4
At that link is a .zip that should help out everybody.
Basically its an empty installable .zip that is installed easily through clockwork. You just need to place your audio file, and bootanimation.zip folder in the .zips system/media folder. As long as your desc.txt is correctly formatted, and bootanimation.zip is done properly then all that needs to be done is the bootanimation.zip in your phones data/local needs no be erased, or change the name to anything.zip.
i have included a file that goes into system/bin that *should* enable sound on any rom. It has worked perfectly through stock, rubix, and liberty..
Basically:
Unzip file
Place bootanimation.zip and audio.mp3 (or whatever you called it in you desc.txt) in the system/media
HHighligt the meta-inf and system folders, add them to archive, or zip them depending on which program you have.
ENSURE you set the compression to store, and the filetype to .zip. Name doesnt matter as this is just the install file.
Put on sdcard, clockworkmod, install, reboot and finally enjoy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=356483&d=1278555629
that should be a file that allows to to check your animation on your computer, to see if u fudged up the desc.txt (which is real easy).
Just unzip the folder, open the file, bootanimationpreview1.5.exe then /file open your completed animation. If it plays, it will work on your phone, if not, the desc.txt is fudged.
Good luck all

No edit to cid files, renamed to ATT_bootanimation.zip instead of just over writing the ones you had, oops that was probably the issue.

Hey XsMagical I use this updater script for my bootanimations etc as stated before. I never tried a downanimation until yesterday. The script worked and pushed the downanimation.zip to system/customize/resource but it didnt "stick". Once I turned phone off the old animation played.
Stumped as to what could have happened I went over everything and made sure it was ok. Finally I just renamed the pushed downanimation.zip to hTC_downanimation.zip and it stuck then.
Is there something missing in the script that would allow the downanimation.zip to be used instead of having to rename it?
The bootanimation.zip works fine flashes over to phone and sticks. The downanimation.zip however has to be renamed to hTC_downanimation.zip for it to stick.
Thanks

Whatever its named is what it needs to be named to overwrite it. In the code its looking for a particular name so if u name it something other than what the original is named it won't recognize it. So obviously the script is ok because it pushed it there but the name was wrong. Try using the original name and see if it over writes it. Hope that made sense.

Yea it made sense lol. I asked because in the zip I can leave bootanimation.zip that name even though the name on phone is ATT_bootanimation.zip, when flashed it will place the bootanimation.zip in the right location and make ATT_bootanimation void not replacing it but both zips in same location. Phone then will use the bootanimation.zip instead even though both are still there.
With the downanimation.zip in the updater zip it has to be renamed to hTC_downanimation.zip thus replacing the existing zip to work.
No major problem was just wondering y the phone would recognize and use bootanimation.zip over the still existing ATT_bootanimation.zip that doesn't get replaced but not the downanimation.zip
Thanks for your help
Ross.

That is indeed the boot animation file, unzip it and you can see the individual images.
The problem I ran into here was replacing it with a new boot animation of the same name somehow broke the startup animation altogether and all I got was the blue android animation, even after putting the original file back. I did a nand restore to get the original back and am now waiting for someone to figure out how to do this the right way or start making flashable zips.
I was doing this through es file explorer on viper xl 3.0. Did it the same way many times before on ice with no issues.

I set the system partition to write and then back to read once the files were moved, but I don't think I can change file permissions with es and I don't have root explorer. Eventually I will quit being lazy and try replacing the files through adb with proper permissions like I had to on my evo.

hey
so i am trying to create my first boot animation, and have done everything according to the guide, well i think i have at least, and have tried so many different things i am kinda out of ideas. so please if someone can tell me what i am doing wrong i would really appreciate it a lot.
so this is basically what i have tried: tried running only the "part0" folder with one pic inside, it worked but then as soon as added in the "part1" it didnt. also tried using a boot animation that works and putting just my pics in the folders, didnt work. also changed the "c" to "p" and vice versa and it didnt work. so to be honest i have no more ideas:/
i am doing it for my samsung s5830i.
this is the boot animation i made View attachment bootanimation.zip
would really really appreciate it if somone could help.
Don't know what is exactly you problem but here are somethings which you should remeber while creating bootanimation.
1. First and most important, always choose "store" or "none " compression method while which actually means there should be no compression. If you choose even 1% compression you will get error (blank screen )
2. Always remember to leave last line of "desc.txt" blank.
3. P or C doesn't matter. It only tells about instruction.
4. Only 1 part is sufficient but if you have more than 1, dont forget about to give instructions about it in desc.txt
5. Set permission to rw-r-r- of bootanimation.zip
6. in "desc.txt", each instruction should be on new line.
Try these. I will see your bootanimation.zip file and will tell you.

Yes, You have to leave last line blank.
I don't know which file explorer you use. I use root explorer.
When you paste bootanimation.zip in system>media folder, just press on it for 2-3 seconds, menu will appear on which you will see an option named "permissions". Open it and tick as shown in image attached. Then press ok. Done!

You were correct. Its really pissing me off too!
btw i forgot to mention you one important thing. When you compress all the zip files, choose "store" or "none" compression. It basically means 0% compression. Hope you have done this.
If not, just try with original files as i dont have them. Remember dont use extracted/compressed files, use original size files. Hope you have not deleted them.
If you cant find option of store in your zip archiver, use 7-zip and zip them.
If it still fails, let me know. We will start again from scratch.
Yeah u mentioned about the compression. And yes I have just zipped to store. So it should work. But yes I still have original files. Do u want me to upload the original files to?

IT WORKED BRO! :victory:
I just extracted all your images. Resized all of them to 240x320 (my screen size). Also I replaced c with p in desc.txt (because 'c' only supports for jellybean onwards, I am on gingerbread). Then I compressed them and placed in system > media, and changed permission. And rebooted. And BOOM! It worked.
I saw your image size 321x480. I think you should resize all of them to 320x480. Maybe that is causing problem.
P.S. I used this tool to resize multiple images at once.Online Batch resize

Ok so i have read through this whole thread all over again, and its so irritating cause im sure its not supposed to be this difficult to do this. so i tried changing the desc.txt file where it says 320 480, i changed it to 321 480, also changed the p to a c. tried this and it didnt work. then changed it back to 320 480(still got a p, not a c) and resized all the pictures(320 480), zipped(store not compress) moved it into system/media and then changed permissions. rebooted and still not working.
here is my bootanimation. View attachment bootanimation.zip
can you please attach the working one you have, then i will try it( used a bootanimaion with incorrect resolution and it worked before)
Why why why....???

It worked......it finally worked, thanks so much for the help!!!!!!!!! So glad it finally works. Last problem is that i dont know how yours does and mine doesnt, the only thing i can think of is the app you used to zip and change permissions. would you mind telling me which one, then i can also make other ones.
Ok so i found the problem. When i was using es viewer for some reason it was changing the format of the .txt file. so i downloaded aonther one and boom it works. so now i have made two bootanimations so far thanks for all the help
