Battery issue? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Ok so I'm not sure which it is but I'm thinking / hoping it's only my battery here's my issue. My phone will not charge properly. It'll say it's at full charge but soon turn off and act like the batteries dead.
Other times it'll take forever to charge even when I leave it charging and don't mess with it. I also rebooted into recovery one day and I saw a message saying my battery voltage was too low.
I did drop it when it was connected so I'm also thinking maybe my USB connector isn't allowing enough power to the battery anymore. Just curious if anyone knows the issue so I have an idea, for how much it'll cost me to fix.

Buy a new battery. They cost around 20 bucks or so, Anker preferably.

[Q] Does not recognize battery

Hello everybody!
I have a tranformer tf101 with + / - 6 months of use. After being stopped a few weeks (drained battery) it no longer charge and the system does not recognize the battery. When I plug the charger he starts the boot and not charge the battery. In settings with the battery status is "unknown" and a question mark on top.
I've given a factory reset and nothing. Has also has opened the tablet and unplugged and plugged the battery again. I did a test trying to turn on the device without battery and it turned on like before, like when connected (interrogation and status unknown).
The charger is apparently working, coz is charging dock.
I can not send to warranty because I live in Brazil...
Can anyone give me a light? Have researched a lot and found nothing ...
Thank you all!
Try plugging it into a USB port on your PC and leave it plugged in overnight, turned off.

thanks for the reply! I've done it, one entire day on energy and other day directly to the USB... But nothing!
Well... It might be possible that the battery is busted from being discharged for so long.
Although... Does it work on battery or does it instantly die when you unplug it?
When I disconnect die instantly! But if is on dock, he stay on
Yeah sounds like the battery is busted then. It works from the dock because the dock acts as a charger for the tablet, just like the 'real' charger.
Strange how a battery with six months of use given problem.
Would if I try to put a higher charge on it (20v) and force her to reactivate might work?
Batteries only last so long, and yours sounds like it is shot.
It's very strange that yours went bad after such a short amount of time.
If the charger charges the dock but not the Transformer, then it's not the charger.
You could possibly buy a replacement battery and perform the surgery yourself.
Other than that, RMAing is the only thing that can be done.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
Software should not be the problem, right?
I'll try to overload the battery to see if she resurrects.
Then post the result!
thanks all for now!

It not that strange. Its not the age per se thats the issue here - its that it was discharged for so long. Once a battery reaches a certain level, it simply wont charge anymore.
Applying 20v will just blow the fuse in the TF, or worse - fry the whole thing... Dont do that
I read somewhere the fuse blows at 17v or something.
And even if we ignore the tablet for a second, applying higher voltage to the battery will just kill the few cells still alive.
And, in worst case, it can even cause the battery to explode, possibly starting a fire and/or damage a person. Although thats not likely with such a low over-volting as 20v. Im just trying to tell you not to put more voltage on a batter than its designed to get
The only way to 'possibly' repair a dead battery is to trickle-charge it, meaning applying a low voltage over a period of time.
Hello Goatshocker!
This charge 20V must be made directly to the battery and not in TF, it really would kill him! And it would be just a "scare" the battery in about 2 seconds only, the rest of the charge would be normally done after (15v). I've done this with cell phone battery several times!
As the battery is dead it seems, think it's the only option.
But before doing so I'll take you on an assistance to make sure it is the battery.

Ah yes, you are quite correct about that. I completely forgot about that method.
Yes, that might indeed work. But I would only do that as a last-resort, although you seem to be quite out of other alternatives
I took him in an assistance yesterday. Tomorrow should tell me the problem. Depending on the result already do the "scare" on battery.
then put the result here!
I had a similar problem. I tried connecting it to different sockets and it finaly charged.

Unfortunately, the overcharging did not work! The battery was completely dead, not sure how this is possible! But it's a valuable tip! The battery dock is the same tablet. So I changed them and I was working with the tablet and dock only works on energy.
Can anyone advise me a reliable site to purchase this battery? The model is ASUS C21-EP101

Losing charge while charging

Has anyone else noticed that it is possible to lose more battery than gain while charging our phone? Last night I had it on the charger while downloading stuff via torrents. This morning I woke up and saw my phone was at 45%. I know why the battery drained, but I just wanted to see if anyone else noticed this?

I have never had this problem, but granted I do not do things as demanding as torrents on my phone. Could it be other problems such as overclocking your phone, or possibly a bad kernel?

I have this issue in my car. The car USB can only provide up to 500mA of current at 5V to the phone. When I have the screen on along with music playing, LTE enabled, and navigation going, it will certainly lose charge while charging. I'm looking to modify it to provide up to 1.25A. In any case, the stock charger is 1A. Even though with all that going on (screen and navigation are power hogs), 500mA is barely enough as I'll lose about 1% every half hour. Maybe you can try plugging into a higher capacity converter (maybe borrow one from someone, or have one lying around?) lets say 2A (that's what i'm using, I found one with my HP touchpad) and see how that works.
In the end, I still say 1A is sufficient even with that going on, so it sounds like somethings askew with your phone IMHO.
It happened to me. But the weird thing is that I was asleep.
It's happened to me on my Droid X2 with Netflix over 3G. What surprises me is that the screen wasn't on and you were going over WiFi. If I were you, I'd try a different charger in the exact same scenario.
Was the phone hot at all?

I agree, your charger you used must have a problem with it. Or not be made for a smartphone.
Only time Ive ever run into this was when I tried using my iPod charger(5v) on my iPad 3 which needs a 10v charger. Was the charger itself hot?
Well idk if it was hot because I was asleep. When I woke up it was normal. And it cant be the charger because it was the charger that came with it. I haven't experienced it since but I just saved that screenshot just in case.

I notice this issue more often when using the stock charger that came with the phone more than my other chargers. I have an OEM spare battery and battery charger so it doesn't effect me much but it is a bit frustrating when i do need to plug in.
I only noticed this after flashing the unlocked aboot.

This was the first thing I noticed about my phone before I even rooted that surprised me.
Happens to me also. I'd say even with moderate use and the charger that came with the phone, it's only able to hold a charge. A 3D game would cause the charge to drop pretty well
I did notice with imo's kernel and ffc (force fast charge) on the phone would hold the charge much better or continue charging - but it would get much hotter of course
This happened to me a few times but I just threw the cord away and bought a new phone. Hasn't even come close to happening since. I'd look into a new charger for sure

I noticed that also.
Doesn't matter what level my battery is when I plug it in, it goes down 5-14% before it begins to increase.
Noticed one time when I was cycling the battery and plugged it in at 10%. The phone actually shut off while being plugged in!
Now I just don't let it get that low anymore but it always goes down before going up.

HUGE battery drain problem

I'm using a Verizon SIII rooted with the bootloader unlocked. This problem just showed up today. I put the phone on the charger at 13% then, more than 2 hours later still on the charger my phone drops to 8%. I want to restore to from a Nandroid but I'm afraid the phone will die out before it can finish. What should I do?

Sounds like either your phone was not charging at all, your battery has gone completely bad, or your phone is not reporting the battery stats correctly. Try a different outlet? Use an external charger? Different cable?
What all have you tried? I.E. changing wall plugs, doing a battery pull that kind of stuff.

I got this phone quite recently. I hope the battery isn't bad. But the battery is charging, or at least the phone thinks it is because my red LED is on indicating the phone is charging. It may be data related as I turned airplane mode and power saving on and its now charging. I'll be able to restore to a Nandroid soon and hopefully whatever is causing my problem will go away. Anyway have any other idea what could have happened?

Well it really depends what your charging it with. If its not getting enough power from a certain outlet or power source then it might burn juice faster than its taking in.

Bad news... I had the exact same thing happen to me. To be honest, I got my 4GSlide off of eBay, and it was a little flakey then (seemed to be picky about sdcards on boot), but it was basically fine. Then a few weeks after I got, it developed the exact same problem you describe. No idea why. I tried everything: different chargers, different batteries (bought a new OEM original battery), no sdcard, fiddled with USB settings... Nothing. The only way I could use it was by charging the spare batteries in an external charger so I could swap when they were empty. At the same time as this happened, the USB port stopped working when plugged into a PC (device unrecognised, even with HTC Sync, even though it worked before). Clearly something serious was going on. I took it to a couple of the best phone repair shops in my area and both were stumped, saying the only way it could be fixed was by replacing the whole motherboard. In the end I bit the bullet and I got another one off of eBay a couple of weeks ago (perhaps a questionable choice, but I really like the phone and its keyboard).
So... I can't say for sure, but if you're having the same problem as me, you probably won't have much choice other than getting a new device.

IF the Lithium-ion battery in my phone was to die, would it still work plugged in?

A theoretical question... IF the Lithium-ion battery in any modern phone or tablet etc was to completely die, would it still work plugged in?
But more importantly I want to know IF the battery in my phone was being completely dead right now, because of wear and tear and charging it alot, could I still use my phone with a micro USB powerpack/battery bank constantly connected to it?
Thanks

Alright. But I guess if there's like 10% of the capacity of the battery left, like a couple years from now, it could work maybe? If you have a phone with a non-changeable battery.
It is possible bro
Like the above said, if the battery is not completely dead and has some capacity left, it will work. But it case the battery is completely dead it will not.

if the battery is "completely dead", no, its not.
If battery is 100% dead then.
Grab a charger and multiply the current written on it with 100.
If the value is somewatn very close ro the battery mAh then that charget could so the trick.
And charger above 1.8A is really hard to get. So to charge bayteries more than 2000mAh can be hard.
Who knows what will work try out the method with 2800mAh . may be it works

your help is appreciated, but you shouldnt comment on such things you know nothing about.
i can get chargers over 1.8a all day no problem.
im not sure what you are trying to explain with all the charger vs battery stuff, but there was no question of an adequate charger.
you seem to be suggesting charging at a higher rate will some how revive a dead battery.
thats just not true. if the battery is dead from reaching the end of its life span as the op suggests in his query, it can not be revived.
further more, you could use a 1,000,000mah charger and it would do or fix nothing.
as long as the charger used can output the amount required by the phone, it doesnt matter how big the charger is beyond that.
there is a charging circuit in all devices that regulate the rate the batteries charge to prevent damage to the battery or device.
chargers dont push out the a or ma listed on them, that value of amperage is the maximum that can be pulled from it.

I understand. Thanks for the answer!
I have an old laptop (like 10 years old), that has a completely dead battery and won't boot if it isn't plugged in, but it does work when it's plugged in, so I thought that maybe it would be the same thing here, but of course not, it makes sense that it's different.
But even with a new, modern phone, I guess it would be hard to completely kill the battery, even when charging it alot?
I mean, even if I would charge it 2 times everyday for 5 years, maybe it would still have some percent left of it's battery capacity, maybe 10% or something, and then it would work.

its fairly rare to see a battery go completely dead from just being worn out. usually users will replace it when it gets to some point of limited usefulness.
sure some times they die from defect, and some times they die from users running down until 0 and the phone shuts off.
the latter trips a safety in the battery and makes it all but useless. this can be fixed, but thats another discussion.
i dont know how laptop batteries work with respect to charge.
phones though, i have seen from experience. when the battery is completely dead the phone will not start even plugged in, until it takes a small amount of charge, to be able to sustain the device on the battery while charging.
as long as your battery can sustain this minimal amount of charge, it should work while plugged in.
there really is no way to tell if, or how long, it will be able to maintain this low charge state. any stress on the battery from heavy use is likely to cause it to shut off until it reaches the minimum threshold again.
also when the battery is this weak, its possible for some sort of internal fault, resulting in the loss of ability to accept even the smallest of charge.
if your battery gets to this weak state, its best to just get a new one. even if its a cheap knock off that doesnt work as good as the old one used to. at least you will have something to work with, and not be worried from day to day if it will work or not.
i hope this clears things up for you

Oh, that's good to know.
And I'm not so worried about that, I never let my phone drop below 10% and most often I charge it when it hits 20% and charge it up to 90%. I believe that's the best for the battery.
I am kinda regretting now that I bought a Xperia Z5C though, I don't like that the battery isn't changeable. But it's a great phone other than that, so I think it will be okay. And the battery is quite high capacity so I hope that it will work fine for at least 3 years, even if I charge it daily.
ETA: Interestingly, I had a Xperia Z1 before this phone, and I had the Z1 for a litte more than 2 years, and charged it almost everyday, and the battery on it was fine, or more than that, it was Good, I was getting 4-5 hours screen time on a charge just a month ago.. So??? I shouldn't be worrying about this anymore and instead enjoy my new phone

many users run the phone to 0 often without issue, but its really a horrible thing to do. there are many documented cases of it not turning on any more, however likely small compared to the amount of times its done. i was just making the facts known that the safety is there, and there is a risk of tripping it.
the problem would be compounded on a sealed phone, as the only fix requires you to take the battery out.
your charging cycle is very good for getting the max life from your battery :good: not too low and not too high.
many will argue this, and claim the benefit is very small, but according to the experts at battery university, not too low and not too high is the best way to get max life from these types of batteries. it keeps the stress levels while charging out of the highest ranges.

Laptop chargers are a bit different from the android chargers.
Laptop chargers are designed to handel heavy charges which charges the battery at at its rated voltage. Like a 12volt laptop charger will charge a 12volt battery. Thats why with battery dead charger can handel all the work.
Android is a bit different.
Its chargers are rated of higher voltagea than battery.
Thats a good thing because at higher voltages we requir less ampere of current per hour to charge it.
I mean to say in previous post that if you grab a charger for your device just pullout the battery and use any other device battery for first boot. And when it start booting then you can just remove that battery and device will run on chrger.

all batteries charge at a higher rate than they are rated at, phone, laptop, car, doesnt matter.
if they didnt, they would take a very long time to reach full charge, and could only do so if not being used.
i would like to see some proof that a phone will stay on booted, with no battery. post some links for me to review please.
