USB Host and Charging a Phone - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

Hey guys, its been a while since I've been on the Forums, but I am having a hell of a time finding a concrete answer:
Is there any way, whether it is via a mod, ROM, or kernel change, to charge a device that is plugged in to the Samsung USB adapter?
I am going on a very long hike, and I'd love to be able to trickle charge my Note with the Tab Plus's much larger battery.

Hmmm let me get this straight. U wanna charge ur galaxy note from ur tabs battery? Well if that's the case then I don't think there is any mod rom or kernel floating out there that will give u that function. You are better off either buying a second battery and having it fully charged or buy one of those portable chargers? Or sense ur gonna be out in the open, why not build a mini solar panel charger for ur note and keep it on the back of ur bag. Ive done it before its not as good as charging with ur normal charger but it sure does the job. Hope this strange idea helped u out!

[Search] Kernel 4 fast charge & UV

Hi to u devs
Like the title says iam looking for a kernel that support fast charge and undervolting.
I read somewhere that with cm9 on the tab10.1 it was possible to charge the tab fast with a computer via fast charge.
There is hardware for this that cost some euro, so a software solution would be great and u can get money for this.
Additional a mod for a fast charge toggle would be it
Undervolting is only a cherry pick and not needed so much.
Thanks in advance
Next time post this in q&a not in development. Also fast charge on this tab would be pointless since a USB port would not be possible to output enough power to charge the tab even with the mod

Ofcause a usb 2 port has enough power!
U can try a samsung charger with 1A and it will charge the tab with 1A! I tried it with my galaxy nexus charger.
The problem is that they changed some connections in the usb port, but seems to can be changed back with a kernel mod.
Thread moved to Q&A section. Please read our rules.

you must have a magical tablet to fast charge with 1 amp.

[Q] Kernel / Rom that supports USB fast charge?

I have looked in both development sections but have yet to find a kernel / rom that supports fast charge for the Note 10.1; The main reason I really want this feature is because I ran across a great deal on a 16,000mah battery bank. I can plug the note into any one of the USB ports on the bank but get the dreaded Xbattery symbol. Would be nice to see how long I could run the note off that bank as an "extended" battery.
Edit: Before anyone ask, the battery is capable of 2.5 amp output on the usb port(s), my local RadioShack had it on clearance for $25.00

You could turn off the tablet in order to use the port, but I got the feeling you are using this while charging , no?
To solve your "x" issue , get the PWR+ accessory from eBay since it has free shipping and its a bit cheaper. This will end the "x" on the battery icon as it has for my laptop. Not only will you be able to charge with that battery of yours, you will be able to do so with any USB port you encounter, and it comes in handy for that reason.
Well on your pursuits towards a fast charging kernel , there is an existing deal for the Galaxy Nexus that is a patch towards the fast charging mechanism you want. Perhaps a port could be created of the kernel patch in order for it to work with the Note 10.1, I dunno. I'm not much of a programmer myself, but I wish I coud take a crack at it if it means to charge faster because of its potential use.

Thanks for the info, and you are correct about wanting to use the tablet while it's connected to that battery. Kind of using it as an extended battery instead of just recharging it. I will look into that PWR+ eBay thing. Oh I might metnion I did try and build this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675042 but it did not work. (Still had the XBattery).
Edit: Ordered the PWR+ Thanks

On Charge Draining Like No Tomorow

I Have A Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 I Got It About 8 Months Ago I've Used The Samsung Official Charging "Cable" For Most Of That 8 Months but about 2 months ago the cable became loose at the Samsung cable to tablet end exposing the wires so I was careful with it and put it away and used my friends official cable then he needed it back so I went off and brought a generic cheep cable for $3.50 So all was good there but slowly I've noticed my battery going crazy like taking longer to charge "2 Days to full" and things like it discharging by 2% when I am on Google while its on charge and when its off charge playing 1 game uses almost all the battery.
so being the awesome soldier that I am I made myself a 5cm cable hoping that the long cable I was using had something to do with it but still I had the problems listed above so I did some Googleing and maybe a 2.5A charger would be helpful But its not recommended. also I sent a email to Samsung and being the "SUPER HELPFULL COMPANY THAT THEY ARE" has not responded to my emails in the past week's Also I Spoke To A live chat person thing and Being "Soo Helpful! " Said that its a hardware fault and I need to take it into a Samsung repair place and fork out $100+ Bucks to get it fixed "HELL NO AnT No BoDy GoT TiMe FoR ThAt" so I didn't go to Samsung to get it repaired so I want to know if any of you guys out there have any idea to fix this problem im having because its so hard to do anything.
Just Checking my emails while its on charge uses %4, On Google for like 5 mins Uses 2%, Playing A Game For 30Mins Uses Well Almost Flattens It, And Watching Some YouTube Takes It Down To 0% And Then Shuts Down( I Watch Lost Of Videos) All This While Its On Charge
At The Moment How Im Copeing Is I Carry Arrount An Inverter And A 12V Battery To Keep It Charging
The SGN 10.1 charging cable is a specially designed cable to deliver 2.1A 5V to the device.
Most "cheap" cable on the market can only deliver 0.5A - 1A 5V when used to charge SGN 10.1
You should find the correct cable specifically built for SGN 10.1

Thanks but how can a cable make all the difference i managed to charge off my old one its just got exposed wires and it still drains when i use it
Are you certain that the battery is actually draining that fast and not simply misreporting it in the UI?
I had a similar problem where the battery didn't seem to last but I eventually noticed that a reboot would completely change the amount of charge remaining, sometimes by as much as 20%. I cleared the battery stats and is been fine since.

Well actually when-ever I turn it off it doesent charge much and if I restart it the battery stays the same but over the last few days ive noticed something weird when its on chatge and I play a game it drops about 20-30% but when its not on charge and on battery it drops by about 5-6% could the charger be draining it? also I have a new new cable its generic (IM NOT PAYING $60 FOR A CHARGER CABLE) and there is no difference still does the weird charging thing also I tried the old cable and still does the same thing the olny thing wrong with the old cable is that the wires where exposed so I dident want to use it just incase it broke

If you don't want an OEM cable and charger you can buy a crap chinese one. But as you and many others have discovered - they suck. This is one of the biggest complaints I have always heard about Samsung.
The solution, and the only on that I have found that works 100% of the time is to buy a replacement from Samsung. Period. Nothing else works like the OEM parts because they aren't OEM parts.

The wiring on the OEM cable is somehow different than most cheap cable.
I'm experimenting by buying a 3M long "cheap" N8000 cable on eBay, may be it can help (delivery time is VERY long )

What ROM are you using?
Stock or Custom?
Rooted or not?
If you are Rooted (Stock or Custom) you can use Battery Calibration app to erase batterystats.bin to calibrate your battery percentage which are needed if you change ROM.

$60 just for a cable? Really? I live in the UK and I bought a whole new charger (official Samsung one, too, including a cable) for about £12 on amazon. Just go to Amazon and replace the charger, it sounds like it'll be cheaper than just the cable (probably 15-20 USD or maybe 30-35 AUD, I'm not sure what the rate is and where you live ) and if it is a charger related issue that'll be fixed too.
Just so you know, I bought the 'travel charger' (the white one) and it works perfectly. Supplies the same current and voltage, and it's a smaller unit, and cheaper! I'd just look into getting one of those.

[Q] sch i535 micro usb connection charging problem

Hi,
I have had my phone since August 2012. Starting the other day my micro usb port on my S3 is starting to get really picky as to how it must be positioned to charge. I have tried atleast 4 different cables, all doing the same thing. I know its just a matter of time before it stops charging all together...
My question is
A)Is the micro USB replaceable (I have no soldering experience)
B)Should I replace the whole motherboard
C)Should I look for a new phone (I can use my brothers upgrade.... but only as last resort)
What are your thoughts?
Thanks!

I see videos for replacing just the usb part ON the motherboard, some people solder (like I said, I never soldered before)
AND there are some 'unprofessional' looking videos where people use a heat gun (which I have) to just replace it.
As for the motherboard replacement, there are good complete disassemblies of the S3, and some boards can be found on ebay
but for $130...
Well you should be careful charging your phone next time perhaps when you get a new device don't let the charger yank down on the port itself

you could always invest in wireless charging! Then you wouldnt have to deal with it! Could be a good alternative!
I found this:
http://www.amazon.com/SainSonic-Standard-Wireless-Charger-Receiver/dp/B00C3DKSRM?tag=notebookscom-20
and then you can just buy a wireless charger and boom no more worrying about the microusb port!

You could also buy a spare battery and one if those wall charger that you put the battery in (like that come with the zero lemon 2300 slims). You essentially charge the battery outside the phone, then just pop the charged battery in (no touching charging port on your phone). I think they're like 20 something bucks on Amazon and come with that wall charger thing.

multiple batteries or extended battery?

Hello
Newish user of Note 4! Which is convenient to you, multiple batteries or extended battery? I plan to buy a second battery.
Thank you!
Multiple batteries for me. Easier to find cases that you will like from an already very limited selections.

don't think so. there are batteries that claim to be at higher maH but in reality its usually the same or even less maH. I would just get another Samsung battery .
I use an external battery. I'm not getting another Note until the external battery option comes back.
I have spare batteries.
Spare batteries mean double or even triple or even more capacity without changing its form factor.
Extended battery can offer conveniences in battery capacity without restarting device but some of it change the form factor.
I have a Quick Charge 2.0 external battery pack that I just use to top up the phone. Easy and quick; works for me. Just put the phone on the pack for a little while and you can go for hours. You can also get a Quick Charge car charger that will quickly top up your phone. I wouldn't want to keep taking my phone out of its case to swap batteries or have to deal with a huge battery and case as part of the phone. Amazon has several Quick Charge 2.0 packs and car chargers. Plus these will still work when you eventually upgrade your phone.

I own a small USB meter that can report both Volts and Amps. I have checked that this car charger is working correctly on Quick Charge with the Note 4 and it is. Both ports are QC 2.0 ports. One advantage of this charger is it is really small.
I used to use a spare battery, but it was always a pain remembering to recharge the one in the phone, then switching out. Eventually just bought an external battery (actually 2 different sizes) since that's really easy to recharge. I can top it up any chance I get and charge both phone and pack at the same time (with 2 chargers or course). Also I can use it for my tablets and win 8 tablet when I'm traveling with both. But I don't have a need for it very often since I can go most of the day without charging and then almost always am near an outlet or car charger. If I ran out of power mid-day every day, I'd go for an extended battery.

I keep the spare charger in the center console of the car. If I'm low or dead I just swap and let the spare charge as I drive. Never worry about forgetting it. And it's almost always fully charged by the time I need it which is much more since the lollipop update. Thinking of going back to KK.
I use the spare battery kit. The spare battery comes with its own charger housing.
I can keep on using the phone while the other battery is charging in my bag or at the wall charger. Don't have to endure carrying the already large phone while connected to a power bank

I like to use both. Spare battery is when I'm out and about and don't need to worry about a dead battery as I can swap it. When I know I'm going to a place where I will need my phone to be an entertain(For myself) for however long I need to stay at a certain place to kill time, I would use my extended battery. Can't go wrong with either IMO.
