What to choice, galaxy s3 or HTC one X? - HTC One S

A friend of mine have the Samsung galaxy s3 and the HTC one X from att for sale, he ask me to sell the phones but he also told me that of I want, I could sell my htc one s and give him the Money gotten for my hos for one of his phones, I like that idea so I will sell my hos but I don't know which one to get; if the one X or the s3, both white, both at&t, both really awesome...
Can I hear your opinion please ?
Thanks

LOL? Ask in the HOX section.
Sent from my HTC One S running ViperOneS!

You have them in your hand and are asking a bunch of anonymous Internet forum members? I'd say you have more problems than a phone choice.

Pretty much if you ask in the One X section, everyone will talk crap about the S3 and brag about how the One X is best greatest phone in all of history. And if you ask in the S3 version, everybody's going to say how the S3 is like a god...and so forth.
Just review the pros and cons of each and decide for youself. Also, why are you asking in the One S forums?

Because I have a one s phone, he told me if you want, you could sell your phone, give me the money that you get for your HTC one s,.and get the one X or the s3, that's why I ask if its convenient to sell my phone to get one of both?

The main reason people get the one x over the s3 is because you get sense instead of touchwiz. Battery life isn't good on the one x but that's on stock there are some awesome roms like leedroid for it that double battery life and get you to last the whole day. Another thing is that htc promised to officially upgrade the one x and one s to jellybean soon so you're guaranteed to get it instead of using cm10. Other than those things the phones are pretty much the same, the s3 has a slightly better performance but unless you're a huge gamer that doesn't really matter. Both cameras are great. The final thing that might make a difference for you is the motion gestures and smart features the gs3 is packed with them (smart stay, pan to zoom etc.) and most are really helpful but the one x has only some of these features. One last thing the HTC one x had some complaints for being too fragile screen wise so it might scratch easily or if dropped it could very we'll shatter so I suggest that you get a screen protector and is your friend willing to sell one of his phone to me after you pick one?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium

Actually the galaxy S3 seems to be more fragile than the one X/S, quite a lot of people who have dropped their GS 3's have had the screen crack, this is largely due to the glass going right to the edges much like the iphones, which is why their screen's shatter so easily when dropped. Plus the gorilla glass 2 on the GS 3 seems to be weaker than standard gorilla glass as I have never seen a phone get sooo many comments about the screen scratching easily and the people have said that they don't have a clue how it happened and that they have never had any scratches on their previous phones. Think samsung have told a white lie regarding GG 2, have made it thinner but at the cost of reducing the toughness.
one X:
- sense is far better overall IMO, only good thing about touchwiz are the features like smart alert, smart stay, smart status bar etc. however, you can get most of these on pretty much every other phone via apps
- camera UI is much better and you have way more features
- much nicer design IMO and the perceived quality is better
- battery life is better on the X (s4) than the GS 3 (s4)
- performance is also better on the X (S4) rather than the GS 3 (S4) (in benchmarks)
GS 3:
- removable battery
- SD slot
- build quality
- will be getting jellybean soon, the X will be as well before the end of the year but no date is given yet and it likely won't be for another month or 2 (this is for the international version, no idea if it is the same for AT&T)
- much better NLED
- 1080P recording in terms of smoothness and light metering
Screen is personal preference, the X screen seems to be regarded the best by a lot of users though and review sites, but it really does come down to personal preference; sharpness, more natural colours VS over saturated colours, true blacks.
Camera quality for photos is more or less the same, for some shots the X wins and for others the GS 3 wins.
In real world use, you aren't going to see much difference in terms of speed and smoothness, the GS 3 will appear smoother, but this is just down to the animations & timing that Samsung have used.
Comes down to what is important to you in the end.
EDIT:
Whoops, just seen AT&T, updating my post.......

I love my HTC one s it does have better build quality and feels better in the hand gs3 feels very cheap but has more of a value in the long run it also has NFC which is developing fast and will be very useful in the future

I know in terms of specifications s3 wins but I really would like to know what new features one X will have with the jelly bean update since HTC make a big step in every update. Also what in afraid of is that HTC is starting to launch so many phones as before and could be possible that stop putting the attention to the one X
- Which one of both has better battery life?
- would be a good idea if I choice the s3 with cm10?
- which one of both scratcha easily?

Why do you prefer HOX over GS3

I just prefer HOX because HTC is simply better than Samsung . Btw many cries about the high benchmark in gs3 , who cares about benchmark? Both phone can run all things.
I love HTC and its sense. HOX is more better than gs3 in style. I prefer stylish phone than the crappy design.
This thread is to say why you prefer HOX not gs3 and it is no more comparison thread . Just to know why HOX is being liked over gs3.
HTC - quietly brilliant

B/c it multitasks brilliantly
Tegra 3 sounds bad ass and it's Nvidia and their optimized games are great.
Htc sense and stylish design. Gs3 looks like you're carrying a brick with a LCD screen which is capable of making calls. Honestly, it isn't out yet but that's the situation I see from It's visuals.

Mainly for design and the fact that I don't like AMOLED.
Add to this that the hate Samsung showed against Google in their presentation doesn't look good to me. And It looks like they changed some APIs on Android like the NFC one. I hope they didn't bring any incompatibilities with it.

+1 to that i knew Samsung were going to make a s3, i didn't like the look of the s2 or touchwiz (or what ever they are calling it) sense is such a nice GUI almost willing to say the best GUI.
well depending what might happen in the next week or so i probably end up going with the s3. Now before anyone says anything i love my one x and even bought it a few lovely outfits (cases guys come on) but it has been 3 replacements now and overall my latest phone does work fine but knowing that the left side of the phone is creaking and you can feel it not being in place properly is a big downer for me. Waiting to see if it gets replaced tomorrow or gets repaired..If replaced by HTC hopefully it will be a newer batch. If it gets repaired then i am sending it to my carrier and hoping they can not fix it and they say if i want a replacement or go for a different handset..then i am going for the s3.
See the closed threads for answers
Honestly, I prefer the One X, Because htc have greatly improved sense, and the build quality is great, I still have my nexus one and the build quality was unrivalled. Simply the best I've seen.
I tried the gs3 out at carphone warehouse a few days ago and the build quality was typical Samsung, plastic feeling, and the shape is just wrong, I hate the overly round corners and the back feels wrong again. My one x has a nice rubberized feeling and the HTC cover I got for it does it wonders. The dock I got with it is amazing as it syncs and charges my device. I also have the media link HD and it is simply astounding. Again, it is the best device I have ever used.

And I prefer my HOX because I prefer the design of the phone and have always found sense more intuitive than touchwiz

it is true. Sense is ten times better. But i am scared now if the next phone i get if it gets replaced will be just as bad as this one hence why i was thinking to get a different handset if my carrier can not fix the phone for me
They're both more similar than they are different. The same discussion's going on in the XL forum. I posted this there...
BarryH_GEG said:
There's actually a couple. Samsung has much broader and deeper carrier relationships all over the world and that helps them sell a lot more phones. The SGS2 absolutely trounced the Sensation and, at a similar price, people would have to have been diehard HTC fans to have picked the Sensation. The One X and SGS3 are a much closer race. And a lot of the "features" on the SGS3 are sexy but pretty gimmicky. How many people used the listen feature in Vlingo on the SGS2? S-Voice is that on steroids.
I had a i9100 and liked TW. Samsung does a great job at supplementing OS features and integrating them seamlessly. But if was far from lag free. Using the exact same apps the same way on the One X it is far more fluid. I haven't used Sense before so can't comment vs. the Sensation but other than the secondary weather animations being jaggy I haven't seen any hint of chronic lag.
There are four things that separate the phones:
1) The Display - The jury is still out on the SGS3 display. It's PenTile which matters to some and not others. Tests show it to be brighter than the GN (thank God) but not as bright as the SGS2 or G-Note. The One X is considerably brighter. Samsung has as many or more display consistency issues as HTC so differences between individual devices (QC) will be a draw. SAMOLED vs. LCD2 is personal preference.
2) Fixed Storage and a Non-Replaceable Battery - That will automatically disqualify the One X for some people.
3) Design - Without commenting, the amount of discussion regarding the SGS3's appearance speaks for itself. People will end up making buying decisions because of it.
4) Performance - There's no doubt the SGS3 will be king of the benchmarks. That'll matter to some but those that are practical will realize that the OS and apps we're currently using make differences in performance at that high a level almost meaningless.
Samsung fans will automatically buy the SGS3. HTC fans will go with the One X. The one’s in the middle will have to choose what matters to them most.

I like the way the One X looks and feels in the hand... very good looking phone
I prefer design and build of the HOX over GS3 and thats probably about it.
Sense "looks" nicer, but isn't better. TW is a lot more resource friendly and optimized than Sense IMO. ^^^I thought the i9100 was lag free and probably one of the smoothest experiences, especially the TW browser. Compared to everyone else, TW browser was amazing and is still probably one of the most fluid browsers i've used.
I guess for now I'm gonna say the Camera on HOX is even with GS3 or better as GS3 is focusing more on camera software than the hardware.
So far, prefer SLCD2 over SAMOLED HD, though both are great. Only problem is the goddamn flickering on light grey colors.
Otherwise, GS3 has better SoC though I was hoping for a 28nm dual-core similar to S4, software out of the box I will say is better. Build quality is up in the air, but from experience, Samsung has much better QC compared to the HOX, which is suffering from an epic number of problems.
In general though, I'd say the GS3 and HOX are definitely a lot closer compared to the GS2 and Sensation where GS2 was an easy choice IMO.
I'm mainly keeping HOX for build and design, I think the GS3 is super ugly though the white one is beginning to grow on me a little bit.

Sense - more feature rich than TouchWiz
Screen - better contrast than SGSIII samoled. Also, better brightness, subpixel density/size.
Looks - imo, way better looking than SGSIII.
Body/touch - polycarbon unibody - better than cheap plastic Samsung uses (WHERE IS MY CERAMIC BODY?)
I really don't get where people always say sense is 'Un optimised' and 'Laggy'
Personally, Coming from Touchwiz to sense, I'd say sense is very well optimised, and maybe I'm retarded but Lag doesn't seem to me occurring for me.
Anyhow, this thread will be closed soon.

Buy New Phone: Which is best?

I'm starting a new thread because all the others I saw on this topic were 2 years old and that is a lifetime in technology world.
I accidentally forgot to take my phone out of my pocket when I went swimming. Worse it was a salt-water pool. So all the metal is corroded, no saving it. I had a Samsung Vibrant. But now looking for perhaps an upgrade.
What are some of the best models to buy? I'm not hugely into changing roms, I like to figure out one I like and stick with it. Also, I have T-mobile service.
So all I know on phone models are Samsung Galaxy S; SII, and SIII. Give me a good one please!
The new line of HTC phones, the One s and One X are pretty cool. Nice and light with amazing screens. The new HTC UI is also lovely.
the Samsung Galaxy S3 is also excellent. Quite similar in terms of weight and size to the HTC phones mentioned.
These are probably the best Android phones on the market at the moment. Theres also the iPhone 4S which is a great phone too, but with smaller screen size than most new Android devices.
Hope this helps
Sony has a flagship(high-end) phone called Xperia S. Hope that contributes to your choices.
Also, I have a tip for you, You should read online reviews on the phones that you are interested in, and, also read the specs carefully,You wont wanna end up with a 600MHz processor or a 2.x" screen, will you?
Best phone for me
I think the new Samsung Galaxy S III is the best phone yet because of its new features. Simply designed for human... hehe... Take a look at this website to know more: http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxys3/
jelly bean
for me if i want to buy a new phone right now i'll buy galaxy nexus. because it gets the most up-to-date android right now that is jelly bean(4.1).
The UI is not so different from the ics but many updates in the software such project butter and google now. you can google it and you'll be suprise.
The project butter make it buttery smooth, it can even match up with quad-core galaxy s3
So for me.Nexus is the one
Buy Galaxy SII and install S3 touchwizz.
If wifi calling were essential, the s2 or s3. Between those two, Itll be down to your budget.
If Wi-Fi calling is less of an importance to you, I'd say +1 on the galaxy nexus all the way.

Please elaborate. Why the SII when the SIII is available?
Which brings me to my next question. Does anyone have both an SGSIII and an HTC One X? I'd really like some feedback for those two.
I'm so impressed with the quality materials and the feel of the One X in hand. While I only tried it in the AT&T store, I really like the build quality, the solid feel, and the UI didn't look too bad either. But I must admit, I'm really a big fan of SWYPE, as offered on the Samsung phones.

I would say the Samsung Galaxy S3 would be the best, but as far as I know it have still some software bugs which need to be improved. If you dont want to pay too much money for a phone, you can choose the Samsung Galaxy S2. I have this one and i am happy with it. it is fast enough for these things I do (use internet, watch some movies while in a bus or subway, listen to musik, learning and play sometimes a game).
The S3 have more features and is faster and so on, but its your choice.
Depend on money, on things you want to do with it and maybe a bit how much you want to show that you have the best

Laggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg thats what the s3 lacks the one x has plenty
I have a One X and just picked up an S3 for my buddy and every time I play with an S3, I like it less and less. From the horribly plastic build, to its ugly design, to the crappy bluish pentile screen. As far as I'm concerned the only benefits it provides over the One X are the SD slot and extra RAM. The One X is superior in every other regard.

I'm speaking specifically of the S4 version of the One X which does not have any of the problems that the Tegra version has. In no way does the S3 rape the S4 One X in terms of performance or battery. They have the same SOC so they are completely comperable. Battery life in the S4 One X is ridiculous. I can get 2 days and over 6 hours screen on time. That's unheard of with android.
Sure the S3 is polycarbonate but it FEELS like a cheap plastic POS. And blue or white? Where's the black? They look like shiny plastic toys and they are fingerprint magnets. The One X feels solid and looks soo much nicer. I really think the build on the S3 belies the actual power of the phone. And sorry man, I'm glad you like the SAMOLED screen but it just can't touch the SLCD2 of the One X. Every reviewer on the internet thinks that the One X's screen is superior because well, it is. The S3's screen is over saturated, not bright at all, doesn't have the viewing angles that the One X has and the pentile is terribly noticeable. If it was a SAMOLED + it would be a different story but it's not. Pentile is a hideous technology and really destroys what would be a high quality screen. Also, at least on the blue model, the glass is tinted blue so the SCREEN is tinted blue. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Even the deepest black on the S3 has a noticeably blue tint to it. I saw it, the rep at the AT&T store saw it, and my buddy who owns one sees it and hates it. The only reason he got the S3 over the One X was because he needed the SD slot.
The S3 is a great device, no doubt, but when you take everything into acount, I really feel the S4 One X is a much better phone. I'm glad you like your S3, but to me it's akin to a family having a retarded child. They may love it to death, but it doesn't change the fact that it's retarded.

Samsung Galaxy S3 .... If you like big phones.. :silly:
I know how you feel. Any way if your getting a new phone you should get the galaxy s3. But if you want a galaxy s type phone then you should get the galaxy ace 2. It has an 800mhz prosesor dual core so it works like a 1 ghz prosesor but since the second core can be turned off when not needed the battery life on the galaxy ace 2 is increased greatly.
But by all means if you want a 4 core phone full of pow then you should get the galaxy 3. It has s voice. Also has the eye detection. So if you look away from the screen it will turn off. The s3 has a memory card slot. Lots of four core phones don't have that. It will be able to charge wirelessly in a couple of months.
So it really does come down to if you want to spend a hefty amount on a phone that you will probably keep for a few years.
Good luck on your new phone hunt. Hope I helped
PS sorry for the spelling. Btw I'm 13

This or the S3, please help me decide

Hey everyone, first off I want to apologize for creating a topic like this. I have been reading up on both phones through website, reviews and topics here on XDA. I just cant seem to make up my mind.
The one X has no removable battery when the battery is 1800Mah which is pathetic considering I am running a 1900Mah in my outdated HTC Sensation. This is a big downside to me; the S3 has a 2100Mah battery which is removable which is a big plus. I was looking at both battery life threads for the international versions and both seem good though. Could you guys possibly comment on this?
The cpu and gpu's of both phones are also interesting. The Exynos seems better then the Tegra 3 and coming from a S3 powered Sensation I do not want another laggy phone.. Please comment on this, possibly a link to another topic if it was made before.
Memory is not a big issue for me, 32gb is plenty.
I heard that the screen on the One X is better and easier on battery life, is this true?
Last thing is development; I love flashing new Roms and have been spoiled with the Sensations awesome developers. Does the international One X have the great support the Sensation has?
Thanks a ton guys!
Tegra is more than cape able

y will be the battery life be same. have you seen the battery stats thread. battery life is worse. thats the only thing that is holding me back to buy the 1x. tegra 3 consumes more battery than exynos. my friend is using 1x. he said that he can hardly use his phone because of this bad battery life. i am waiting for the OTA. hope it improves the battery life. if so then i will instantly buy the HOX
Come one One X board, Bump!
I just got the S III. I compared it to the One S (different than the One X I know) and was disappointed in the HTC. Not having a memoir card slot was a deal breaker.

When using the phone the majority of power is used on the screen, so I can't see how any update can make the screen use less power unless it turns it down to such a low brightness it can hardly be seen, and you can do that yourself without waiting for new software. Waiting for an OTA that is suddenly going to make the battery last a lot longer is going to be a long wait. Yes it might get tweaked to give a few more minutes here or there, or contain fixed software bugs that was causing the phone to draw too much power in standby, but it can only do so much.
You can get attachable battery backs for the HTC One X now which will greatly extend the runtime, but it will make the phone physically larger.
If you can't live with the HTC One X battery runtime, stop contemplating it and get the S3. If there is something you don't like about the S3 which makes you favour the HTC One X, then sometimes you have to have accept one limitation over the over and just make a decision.
Regards
Phil
I have had the S3 for a week and love the phone. However I am switching back to my international one x. The biggest reason for me is connectivity and I miss the screen on the one x. The screen on the S3 is nice, but when you put it side by side with the one x the one x just pops. Samsung incorporated a lot of very nice software customization however the one x feels a bit more refined. Both are dynamite phones, I do find that the one x drops calls much less than my S3 which has become very frustrating to me.

Battery depends on how to use it. Since you're going to unlock the phone there are lot of stuff you can do to improve the battery life. I can easily get 3.5 to 4 hours of screen time and last more than a day. The standby time of One X is great.
The cpu and gpu's of both phones are also interesting. The Exynos seems better then the Tegra 3 and coming from a S3 powered Sensation I do not want another laggy phone.. Please comment on this, possibly a link to another topic if it was made before.

Now we have achieved GPU overclock so gaming performance will improve much more than before. I'm a minimalistic lover so lesser widgets and apps never had any lags. When comparing with the leaked firmware the UI is butter smooth and we have a lot of tweaks to make it even better.
Memory is not a big issue for me, 32gb is plenty.
I heard that the screen on the One X is better and easier on battery life, is this true?

It again depends on how you use it. We have tweaked the auto brightness values to even lesser to improve the battery so Yes it's better.
Last thing is development; I love flashing new Roms and have been spoiled with the Sensations awesome developers. Does the international One X have the great support the Sensation has?
Thanks a ton guys!
We are atleast 7 to 8 custom ROM's, 3 different variants of CM9 and AOKP, then MIUI as already have a early port of JB. So I can proudly we have best set of developers here :good:

Dude what's up with the caps ... Caps mean your yelling at the OP
Edit: multi quote didn't work out that well.
Good points made, I'd like to add that battery life of both phones is nearly the same, sIII has an edge by a margin. Danes goes for benchmarks.
I was chatting with this friend of mine who just got an SIII, he was whining about the battery life after having his brightness at lowest and sync off.
Developer support is great like ShyamSasi mentioned.

2)removable battery
3)expandable memory

Go into a store with both the S3 and the one x and try them. I prefer the one x personally because it looks nicer, the screen is far better and in my opinion htc sense > touchwiz. But you might think differently so id recommend trying them out.
Got to play with a white GSIII alongside a white HOX yesterday (mine is grey).
Here are my two cents:
Looks
Visually, there's just no comparison between the two. On comparing the two devices side by side, HOX smokes SIII. Even all my friends who were with me thought the same. HOX looks infinitely better than GSIII.
Performance and Processors
Performance wise, the Exynos on the GSIII is a tad faster than the Tegra3 on the HOX, but honestly with such a high processing power, the differences in performance will be negligible, if at all visible.
One thing worth considering here is that with Tegra3, you get the advantage of a lot of great games that are optimized for it and offer a much better visual experience than on other processors.
Display
Now the display. Both are very high resolution, but the one on the SIII is a pentile one and is AMOLED. Now I know that the ppi on both are extremely high, but to the eyes of a discerning user, the difference in sharpness is visible. The display on the HOX looks sharper.
Some people prefer amoled, others prefer LCD. Personally, I find the colors to be a little too "punchy" on AMOLEDs. But you may have a different preference. Try playing with it before making a decision.
Now to the most important part and the reason most of us are here:
Custom ROMs
S-OFF hasn't yet been achieved by the HOX community, and that makes flashing custom ROMs a tad more tedious. Flashing custom ROMs on SAMMY devices is generally more hassle free.
Quality wise, the HOX community has some truly amazing devs and the ROM scene is very exciting.
User Experience
In the end, both of these are amazing devices. Play with both of them and decide which one you like better. TouchWiz vs. Sense is another very subjective topic and you'll have to judge on your own. But if you're planning on running AOSP, they don't really make a difference.
Camera
Haven't tested the camera on the GSIII, but I'm sure it's amazing. But so is the one on HOX. I think you could pick either one of them without really looking into this. If you're looking for serious photography however, I'd suggest you look for a good DSLR instead.
Guys thanks so much for the awesome replies! No S-off, oh no I don't like that; the S3 has S-off I'm assuming?
I think I am leaning towards the S3 though; the removable battery is making the difference for me. Also, coming from a laggy Sensation I want all the processing power I can get to avoid any lag in the future; I hate lag!
Both phones have a quad core processors. Idk why anyone even says theres possible lag on quad core phones. The Samsung has an amoled screen which means any white pictures or anything white that pops up drains battery amazingly faster. Sense 4 is rock solid and just flows good. Touchwiz is all over the place with cool features that you'll probably forget you have eventually. I feel like the gs3 to the gs2 is like the iphone4s to the 4. Its just a better looking gs2 with more **** on there., but unorganized. The galaxy s 4 will definitely be amazing because Samsung vowed to work on their software more than anything.
Battery wise, the gs3 seems like it takes up more resources than the one x because the u.s version has an extra gig of ram. My friends gs3 from att has **** battery life compared to my one x variant.
HTC is also obviously the underdog in phone sales so it would make sense that they would put more effort in building a high quality phone, which they clearly did. Samsung knows there on top so they overly marketed their phone everywhere and now its really popular, still top notch, but it was released before it was perfected.

I came from a i9100. I sold it before the i9300 came out so I could get more for it. I got a One X but planned on selling it once the SGS3 was released. I used a S4 SGS3 in Japan for two days and decided to keep the One X. There are 162 pages of debate on the SGS3 forum discussing both phones.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652250
Here's why I kept the One X vs. getting a SGS3 as posted in that thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27663514&postcount=1525
Keep in mind that the first 2/3's of that comparison thread was written before the SGS3 came out when people were comparing a utopian vision vs. the One X which had been out for a few months. Things have changed because the SGS3 has its share of issues. Most center on the display (defects, dimness), available RAM (the S-Crap reserves a large amount of memory), battery drain (wakelock issues), fragility (the edge-to-edge glass panel breaks easily), and QC (bezels cracked, hyperglaze defects, and the physical home button being recessed instead of raised).
At least to me, the One X's most outstanding feature is its display. I wasn't impressed with the SGS3's; especailly side-by-side. Displaymate is a professional display testing and evaluation company. They wrote up a review of the SGS3's display. It's not too flattering.
http://www.displaymate.com/OLED_Galaxy_S123_ShootOut_1.htm
The One X was rushed to market by HTC, probably to get there ahead of Samsung and the SGS3. There were build issues, s/w and driver bugs, and some h/w problems. The launch didn't go exceptionally well. Some issues still exist but the chatter's died down considerably so you can assume things have improved as more phones have been built.
If you look at the way the One X is put together, the "phone" is a single unit and slides in to the single-piece polycarbonate body. Tolerances are pretty tight and probably difficult to achieve in mass assembly. The biggest issue is a Wi-Fi fault created when the connectors on the body aren't correctly aligned with the antennas on the shell during assembly. The connectors use dynamic tension so compressing the back of the phone can also affect Wi-Fi performance. Based on a rough tally, 200-400 owners on the forum are affected against a total of about 5K. The "fix" put in place by HTC are spacers to keep the back from being compressed. Where the connectors are isn't an area likely to be compressed (unless someone intentionally compresses it) and the fix is more of a safeguard. The design itself hasn't been changed and the majority of phones aren't affected. I'm sure HTC's adjusted the assembly process either through better training or new methods of getting the phone body in to the shell. HTC phones have their build month identified in their serial number. The "3" in XX23 means March and so on. I have a early-build HT23 and it's been pretty much flawless in every way so not all early-build phones had problems. A poll that was run with 1K people voting where the question was asked “is your One X perfect?”, 70% said yes. As in anything mass produced, later versions tend to have better tolerances through tuning of the build process over time.
There's been a leak of a pretty substantial update to the One X that's due out soon. It moves the phone to 4.0.4, improves battery life, performance and benchmarks, enhances the browser, and addresses a lot of little issues that bugged people. Read that thread and it'll give you an idea of what to expect.
Keep in mind that if you intend to root your phone you'll be completely giving up your warranty on the One X where Samsung's still pretty liberal. More people need to take that in to consideration before they buy the One X.
Overall, I'm happy and there's no phone out there right now I'd rather have. Friends I've recommended the phone to are happy also. Good luck with your decision.
@Op, did you duplicate the same thread in S III forum because that's not allowed neither by forum rules but
the most fair thing don't you think? Otherwise you should have used general section.

Ditch One S for Nexus 4?

I placed an order for the Nexus 4 16GB on the Play Store last week for around 380 including tax and shipping. It will still take two weeks before it ships, and now I am having second thoughts. I like my One S and am not too impressed by the Nexus 4 specs. Any personal thoughts / opinions?

The only things it has over the one s is double the speed/ram and stock android updated by Google, other than that the one s has a better build quality better camera

I've heard bad things about the N4's battery life. And I am very sceptical to any phone with a back made of glass. That said, it is really cheap for the specs it has. Snapdragon S4 Pro is pretty sexy.
Yea I'm not into the back being made of glass, the galaxy note 2 to me is the best on the market but until I get onto a new carrier which won't be for awhile I'm stuck on the one s

Cannondale, it is only thanks to you that I stuck with the One S. I only had it for 2 days and thought I had bricked it until I found your post on repairing a soft brick.
My opinion is that a LG phone will never have as good a build quality as a HTC phone, also camera is way below HOS spec. I have heard that the battery life is very poor. The only current phone I would possibly swap for is the Galaxy Note 2!
Change your mind and stay with the better phone for now.
I don't know, I see all this praise over the One S, only from the owners of one, I have the Galaxy Nexus and the HTC One S unrooted stock (for now) and I always prefer to use my GNex. Bigger and better display makes a big difference for the better and the customizations and support. The HTC One S is more powerful but the freedom of the Nexus is a wonderful thing! I haven't rooted my One S yet cause I can't find a Cincinnati Bell Wireless RUU for it, I guess there isn't one. So when I use my One S I miss all the things I can do with my Nexus. I suppose I can do the same things with the HTC it just doesn't seem easy or practical. The Nexus is a developers phone and if you are a flash addict like me thats what makes Nexus users always go back to Nexus. Once you go Nexus you never go back! Lol. I loved my Nexus S and love my Galaxy Nexus even more and I am sure I would love the Nexus 4, just don't have any reason to give up on my GNex yet. So if you are happy with the development for the HTC One S then I would probably stay, I still need to root mine to find out. From what I have seen, especially since there is no RUU for my network it seems to much of a hassle.
Unfortunately the one S is a highly under rated phone, people right it off straight away before even using one for more than a few minutes (even though pretty much every expert review has spoken very highly of it and the only disadvantages they mention of it, is the screen sharpness and limited storage), you don't get to appreciate just how good it really is in 10-20 minutes of usage. IMO the only phones that are truly better overall are the:
- XL and the X+
- GS 3 and note II
- RAZR HD/MAXX
Plus having virtually no advertisements for the phone means average joes etc. will think that it mustn't be that good and therefore won't care, advertise/market the phone as good as the GS 3 and iphones and people will be interested.
The galaxy nexus display is nice, definitely sharper/clearer than the S, however, IMO it is too dull for SAMOLED panel, the one S is the best when it comes to calibration for colour settings, whites are the best I have seen on a SAMOLED screen, view ability in sunshine is far better from my usage with both. The display isn't "much" bigger due to the on screen buttons, iirc the height is pretty much the same but the galaxy nexus is a bit wider, I would have liked the screen on the S to have been a bit wider.
I was going to get the nexus 4 if HTC didn't get the JB update out by the end of this month, however, after reading reviews and loads of users comments, I will probably stay with the S till the butterfly comes out here. Seems more like a side/down grade overall:
- Mixed opinion on the screen, some say it is as good if not better than the X display, but others say the screen is washed out and poor viewing angles, which I can't stand, personally I prefer SAMOLED screens overall
- camera overall isn't as good
- build/perceived quality and design IMO isn't as good (still a lovely looking phone though)
Main advantages of the nexus 4 over the S:
- battery life once they fix the problems with the drivers/software
- nexus device so will get updates
I didn't get the N4 simply because it's too big. I have a one S with AOKP JB ROM and it works like a charm--fast internet, data, no problems with any apps I've tried. I recognize I'm probably in JB 4.1 for the life of the phone but JB finally realizes the promise of Android and I'll probably be happy with it for the next couple of years. And on eBay the one S, rooted and all, was a third cheaper than the N4.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I had the two phones side by side the other day, and after turning both screens on my decision was made. After being spoiled by the true blacks and rich colors of the one s screen, I couldn't stand the nexus 4 screen.
As far as the specs go, yeah, you get more processing power and ram, but do you need it yet? Does screen size outweigh screen quality? And as far as updates go, if you're rooted, you got 'em.

I want to thank everyone for your sensible responses and advice. I decided to sell my Nexus 4 to a colleague. It was very, very difficult to give it away. I have a N4 and One S. I haven't had it long enough to give a full review. I've been waiting for the successor to the Galaxy Nexus for a while and was turned of at first to hear it was produced by LG. Now that I have one I don't care who made it. He's some simple observations.
Build quality: Very Good - My phone has no creeks or blemishes it's a perfect example.
Screen: Looks great, I don't have much experience with color accuracy but the colors/brightness/clarity are good.
They did speed binning on the SOC and I also got lucky there and got a "Fast" one. I think it just means the kernel will under-volt it by 50ma vs a "Normal" chip
I flashed CM on both phones as fast as I could so there isn't really any difference in terms user experience.
I don't use any of the new 4.2 features.
While it feels thicker laying the two phones flat on a table side by side they seem the same thickness overall. The One S is slimmer in the middle of course.
HTC One S has USB OTG. The Nexus does not, I'm really bummed about that.
Speed wise they are the same to me.
Turns out the 3g/4g switching that alarmed us when the One S came out is hear to stay. It's just more honest reporting of phones connection. Both my phones drop to H when not pulling down data and switch up to H+ when there is actual through put.
I thought I would like the buttons drawn on the screen but they seem to close. I don't like it now that I have it.
That's it for now. I need a little more time to get a better feel for it.
I am getting HTC One S with S4 processor for $180 and Nexus 4 16GB for $280
which one should i choose at this price ? Help experts ....
Wait
Wait for nexus 5

Why the One S? (and not the One X)

I just wanted to know why you guys chose the One S rather than the One X?
I've already got the One S so I don't need convincing. For me, it was the smaller form factor that sealed the deal.
Better phone overall in my eyes.
The main reasons for me:
- aluminium uni-body
- better audio
- much better battery life
- better CPU chipset (tegra 3 has no right to be used in a phone that is suppose to be high end) in a number of things, especially the performance area
- thinner, overall smaller dimensions
- lighter
- aluminum unibody instead of plastic
- Snapdragon S4 is better than Tegra 3 (if you get the Tegra 3 One X)
It's ironic because the marketing had the two backwards. The One S should have been made bigger (4.7") and called the One X. The One X should have been made smaller (4.3") and called the One S. People are always surprised when I say S is better than X, but it's quite obvious why the S is better than the X when you compare the two side by side, feature by feature.
- my carrier didnt offer One X
- I prefer the size of the One S
I got it for the smaller form factor. I like being able to operate my phone with one hand without having to stretch my thumb to get to the other end of the screen.
i went with one s because I am on TMo. I actually like almost everything about One S except maybe wishing that the screen can be a tad bigger an higher res. NFC is cool but I don't use it that much.
Overall, One S is the same as One X (talking about the Sapdragon version) but I like One S's overal design and build quality. I think HTC shuld've made One X with One S design then it would have been a great phone.
I got my S because it was cheaper lol
I wouldnt mind a bigger screen, but the screen on the S is big enough. I got tablet(s) for big screens ;p (none of them fits in my pocket though )
The lack of SD card slot kinda bugs me a bit though, even though I dont really need it.
I havnt really tested the S to the max yet, but so far Im quite happy with it. I dont have to wait half an hour for the phone to unlock like on my Blade
One thing Ive noticed so far though, its PAINFULLY slow when listing content through ADB (using the browser in my Quick ADB Pusher).
Even the blade is faster :s Might be a rom/kernel issue though, Im still on stock on the S.
For me it hits the sweet spot between quality, and materials and raw power. Amazing phone.
I was really undecided what should I upgrade from my Defy but I had decided to be the One S rather than the One X for quite some reasons, such as:
- Amoled Screen
- Better and more efficient SoC
- Better battery life due to the above
- Screen size hits the sweet spot
- Thinness and the Micro Arc Oxidation back, might seem like a gimmick but it makes it feel premium
- Better Wifi and Celular radio
The only thing I honestly wish it had is NFC
Well, the One XL is basically the One X version of this, and I thought that should've been the global flagship instead of just the LTE carrier device.
Because a proper 4" didn't exists, it was either this or Xperia S, battery life tipped in htc's favour.
I didn't want to go larger than 4" but 4.3 is okay, i can live with it, but it's just on the edge of being too big. Like if you want to go back to previous screen, with 4.3 your thumb can barely make it, one x and sg3 owners can't, they need both hands.
That's why one x and sg3 didn't have any interest.
One XL is great, but I like the size of the One S more. The screen is much nicer on the One XL. If the One S came with a XL screen I wouldn't have to own both.
