[Tutorial]How to use BitPim to transfer Ringtones to the Smasung Brightside - General Topics

Theres a new phone out there called the Smasung Brightside. Yes its a feature phone (it looks like an Android Phone though).
When I have the Brightside connected to BitPim and to the computer via USB cable and I have the Bluetooth on the Brightside turned off, in the "BitPim Settings" screen I have "Phone Type" set to SCH-U750 (Alias 2) and "Com Port" set to auto. This is very important that these are set or it wont work properly because bitpim dosent have the Samsung Brightside in its phone data base yet.
After that for the 16 digit password use samsung default in cdma ws. The easiest way to do ringtones i found is,
1) Open media center, music an tones, my sounds on your phone, record new sound (doesnt matter how long it is), save it in my sounds not to mem card.
2) Open bitpim, goto settings, and manually set phone to samsung u750(alias2), set your com port, and goto filesystem, open it up, and goto brew/MOD/18067. you will see your sounds as .qcp files, make your .mp3 ringtone. (you dont have to convert it to .qcp) just goto the sound file you want to use right click, an hit overwrite. select your .mp3 ringtone, overwrite it an now you have an .mp3 ringtone instead of your sound you recorded.
There is no need to restart the phone just goto my sounds an rename it to what your ringtone is. Also after you overwrite it an rename it you can move it to the sd card so you dont fill up your phone.
3) To use your ringtone goto media center, music an tones, my sounds open the file you want to use an at the bottom left it says set as, pick what you want to set it as ringtone, contact id, or alert tone.
Hope this helps you guys if you have any questions fell free to pm me.

Does anyone even have this phone on these forums?

My son has this phone... Ive been insterested in doing something to it for the longest time.. like ANY modification possible.
The thing here is,Verizon forces you to upgrade your plan for a "smart" phone.. this phone does not...yet it still has the capabilities, but it runs BREW i believe..
I would abslutely Kill to rom this.. Then you could basically have a smartphone on verizons network without paying smartphone prices..
absolute bunch of thieves they are..
does anyone even know of a place where they are even discussing this phone and modding?

HELP!! HTC Wizzard!! Tmobile MDA!! DELETE FiLES

Hello.
I need help. My phone is unlocked and prepaid[cingular] so it always makes this noise when i send a message or recieve a message despite the fact that all sounds to the phone are silenced. I tried to silence all notifications and yet it still made the noise. I want to delete the tone all together and maybe put a blank file there that makes no noise. I found the tone its called notify and I tried to erase it but its locked aka the delete button is greyed out. I tried to install a windows unlocker on my phone but a pop up kept comming up saying that the file is not valid/permitted and it could not be downloaded[windows wouldn't allow it]. If you have any methods or solutions for me to solve this problem respond ASAP!!!
Thank yOU!!
Have you tried going to Start->Settings->Personal->Sounds & Notifications, clicking on the Notifications tab and changing your preferences there?
Listen carefully!!!

I have change this notify.wma file to the one that has the diamond and it works....
First make a sound in wma yours or a blank noised ok?
Then sync your mda to activesync full sync (I mean say yes to all the windows of outlook, uncheck all options of sinced files, contacts, favorites etc etc) to make an association.
Open in activesync "explore" then open the windows folder and drag your file notify to overwrite the other one default file, it works! jeje.
Im from mexico and the noise makes me get mad.
Good luck!
whoa there gunslinger, how mad does it make you? (lol)

A Problem with Receiving file with Bluetooth from computer

something's being bothering me but not a big problem, any help is appreciated.
i sometimes use BT to transmit a pic or 2 to my TP from my notebook, connection have been established before. it was working well as i created a new file in my storage card named "bluetooth". when i used to send, it would accept automatically (without asking for permission to receive).
from today i noticed something different, when i send through BT now. there will be a notifying beep and a icon will appear on the icon bar (looked like the icon for BEAM) after clicking it, it will then ask me to save. but the thing is it does not save to my folder anymore. i went into BT setting and noticed that my shared folder is still the same folder but the item sent is not in that folder. the item will end up in my device's "my folder" folder.
any advice on how to set this up again?
i would really want to change it back to the setting when it would receive file from my notebook (connection established) automatically (without me having to press accept) and save it to the folder i assigned.
any help?
btw, i'm useing ENERGY 1.0 series ROM if matters
thanks

[Q] Ringtones Reassigning Themselves?

Trying to determine if this is a "just me" problem or a larger problem.
I have ringtones on my SD card that I moved onto my phone when I got the Atrix 2. I am able to successfully assign the 'new' ringtones for both the default and the individual contacts. I've already set it up as indicated in this thread (which I know is for the S2, but I presumed the concept should be the same).
However, I've found that at some point later (perhaps after a restart?), some (but not all) of the ringtones have changed, usually to songs on the SD card (not necessarily to other ringtones).
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? It's not a huge deal, but it definitely throws me for a loop when say, my father calls, and it's not "his" ringtone playing on my phone.
Thanks for the feedback to anyone else who responds.

You should not have them on the phone storage, that is for apps and android only. All of your media (including ringtones) needs to stay on your SDcard, especially since the phone scans and rescans the SDcard on every boot, for things like that.
To make it work correctly for this phone, create a folder (directory) on your SDcard and call it ringtones (it must be on the root of the SDcard), that will make them show up as ringtones to select, the only time they will not work, is if you unmount the SDcard and put another one in, that does not have that layout with the files you selected as ringtones. Once you put the card back in and remount it, they should start to immediately work again.
Hi Jim:
So would the correct path for these files then be: /mnt/sd-card/media (and then either notifications/ringtones/audio?).... or /sd-card/media?
I swear that's how it was initially set up and the phone couldn't seem to find any ringtones, which is why I'd made the change as outlined above.
Thanks for your assistance.

No, the correct path is:
/sdcard/ringtones/
Your ringtone mp3 files go in there. I have never had an issue with that location on this phone, and a few other other phones that has worked flawlessly as well.

Hi Jim:
I moved the files there using root explorer, used the app "sd rescan" to rescan the card again, and rebooted my phone.
The tones now appear twice each in my ringtones option and both appear to play (which would at least imply that they're both linked to valid files). However, I had set my alarm for this morning to wake me up with a ringtone, and was instead woken up to the noise the phone makes when you first turn it on and it's scanning the card. I've also noticed that again, my contacts have different ringtones.
I've noticed that the folder appears in two places (sd-card/ringtones, and then a mnt/sd-card/ringtones has a symblink of that) ... could that be my issue?
It's not just you. The phone has storage "issues" of all kinds.
Just curious do you have Zedge installed?
I do have Zedge installed, though I've never used it for Ringtones. I've also got RingDroid installed, which is how I made these into ringtones/notification tones in the first place.

Disabling keyboard click but retain dial keykad beeps

I've had a good search of the forum..
I'm looking for a hack for turning off the keyboard click of SMS'ing, typing in IE, etc but keeping the beep tones for when I'm dialing in a number (when making a call).
I know you can turn off "key press" tones in settings but this is overkill as it gets rid of the dialing beeps too. I want everything muted apart from the dialing beeps. Unfortunately Advanced Config. app doesn't let you achieve this either.
I've got windowbroken unlocked & rooted device (Omnia 7) so have access to registry/explorer through WP7 Root Tools.
Thanks in advance!
Solution
I notice that this thread got a fair few views so if anyone is interested I managed to achieve this myself through a little file replacement.
The files on the phone that need to be replaced are: \windows\kbdkeytap.wav and kbdspacebar.wav
I replaced them with a 1 second silent GSM wav files (zipped and attached, see below) that I made in Audacity.
I copied the replacement files into the phone's windows directory using Windows Phone Device Manager.
You can copy the old versions into the phone's My Documents folder in case you want to revert to having clicks again. Obviously you can backup the old ones by transfering them from the phone to your computer too.
You need to restart after doing this for it to take effect (presumably it caches .wav files?).
The result is no key click when typing or pressing spacebar, but it retains the clicks for copy+pasting and deleting texts.
NB. My device isn't Interop unlocked (simply Windowbroke unlocked) so I had to grant the Touchxperience app root privileges in WP7 Root Tools in order for it to work.
strange request...

Had the phone a year and I'm familiar enough with the keyboard that I don't need/want audio feedback to let me know what keys I'm hitting when typing. For some reason I like having the keypad tones for the phone dialer tho'.... must just be a retro thing.
Cool hack.
However, there's something you should know (for your own benefit, and to avoid confusing people with misinformation): Your phone *is* interop-unlocked. That's what WindowBreak does; it's dev-unlock and interop-unlock at the same time. You wouldn't be able to install WP7 Root Tools (or any other app with ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES), or install more than 10 unsigned apps, if your phone wasn't interop-unlocked.
Perhaps you meant "My device isn't Full unlocked"?

[Q] Updating 'altered' MP3s on phone?!

I'm sorry to ask this question as the answer is probably obvious to most (but not to me!)
Most of my MP3s vary a lot in volume so I discovered a program called MP3Gain to alter the playback levels so that they are more uniform.
The only problem is that the Zune Software does not seem to recognise that the MP3 files have been altered in any way and therefore refuses to update my Lumia with the new, MP3Gained files!
Is there any quick way to just update all the songs on my phone with the edited files automatically or do I have to delete all the songs and upload them manually?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!
Hmm... did MP3Gain not update the files' Modified timestamp? If it didn't, that may be why Zune doesn't realize they've changed. If it did, and Zune still doesn't pick up on that... weird.
One sure way is to delete the music from the phone, then re-sync. This actually shouldn't take much (if any) longer than just re-syncing all the files would anyhow.
I should have said that initially!
MP3 Gain does modify the time/ datestamp but Zune still ignores it anyway!
That's weird... I've seen Zune automatically update files when I connect my phone even though I tweaked something (like my rating of them) on the PC when the phone was disconnected. It may not notice third-party changes, though... silly of it.
You could also try just re-syncing the files (select all your music files in Zune, then drag+drop them onto the phone icon). Zune may then notice the changes and send the update.
Thanks, I'll give that a try!
Doesn't work!
Even when I change the rating in Zune, it doesn't sync to the phone.
I tried giving a song a rating in Explorer and that also doesn't make Zune sync.
I'm not really sure what else to do now...
What's wrong with just deleting the songs from the phone (very easy to do in Zune) and then re-syncing them? I meant it when I said this wouldn't take any longer. You'd have to overwrite every song file anyhow, which will take just as long.
The problem is that I have 30gb of songs on my pc and only 10gb on the phone, so I have to remember exactly which songs I have on the phone from the collection on the pc!
Is there some way that the phone can just restore all the music on the phone in one go?
Every time I've deleted music in the Zune app on the phone and then connected to the pc, the music stays deleted and isn't restored from the pc.
The strange thing is that the Zune software recognises that the mp3s have been changed as it says that "media files updated". It just doesn't update them on the phone.
This is what I did: create a playlist "Music on Phone" (can be done from the phone if I remember correctly) and whenever you add, or delete music in this playlist, it'll get automatically synced. Should you decide to delete all music for whatever reason, it's a one-click-sync to get it all back then..
Regards..
Thanks ombre33, that sounds like exactly what I'm after!
I'll give it a go and see if it works for me.
H.
