T-mobile one s system update - HTC One S

I have rooted T-Mobile phone, original software that came with the phone at the release date, system update is recently downloaded OTA but not installed.
Two or three T-Mobile minor APP were removed using Titanium backup.
Understanding that three is probably multiple updates since release date, and I will be loosing root:
I am trying to achieve good wifi calls and free tethering.
How do I go about to update the phone to the latest software (not interested in custom ROM): can I just install the update?
Is there a specific post or guidance for this situation? really appreciate all the help.
Android version 4.0.3
Software number:1.53.531.16 710RD
HTC SDK API level: 4.11
Kernel version 3.0.0-01053

Did you try upgrading with kies air? You can install it from the official page by doing a Google search but I don't know if it'll work since you're rooted but its worth a try.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think you just got pushed the HSUPA update. This part of the file name, "1_84_502_11", matches my firmware number after the HSUPA update. I don't know what number was on the firmware before the update, but my firmware is 1.84.502.11 after said update. From what I remember, the file name is exactly the one I got when I checked for it after the update was officially released last month.
EDIT: Unless of course, I'm wrong, and that's a totally new firmware update. Though I haven't seen any info on any new firmware updates for us since HSUPA.

I got the push on this via wifi yesterday afternoon also. I was assuming that this was the update that would enable installation of non market apps but I was wrong. Anyone have any additional information on this OTA update?
Personally, I do not think this is a recent update as I have been running custom roms since I bought the device but had to revert back to stock because of a warranty issue that will require me sending the device back. I think it is an update that was missed in the timeframe from February launch up until about 3 days ago.

I just referenced those numbers to mine and it IS the HSUPA update. It wasn't released till late April, so it hasn't been out that long. I just don't know if you should install it. If your sending it back, and since you reverted back to stock, maybe you should try installing it.

I was at wendys today, used their wifi to check for the update and sure enough it was this same one. D/l'ed it and installed. My speeds went from 200kb/s to 500kb/s. That was just one test though
I just hope this doesnt effect rooting it in the future as i plan to do so.
Just got the Inspire for my wife today. Saw this update as well. She doesn't want me to root or flash anything yet. Wondering if it's ok to run this update without it affecting the ability to root and flash anything later.
TIA

I tried but didn't work. I think it because my phone is rooted. Based on search, it looks like its a radio update and has been out for a while. I don't know why I just got the upgrade notification. Maybe it because I got my Inspire few weeks ago. I tried update via wifi and it never showed up until today.
Anyone know how I can get this update on rooted phone?

That's what I figured.
Any suggestions? I did some research and it looks like there is a patch which I could down load but its recommended that I install from ruu. What's ruu? I am not familiar with HTC terms.
RUU is Rom Update Utility. It is a stand-alone application from HTC that will basically erase everything and restore your phone to the level indicated by the application. The latest official RUU for the Inspire is (wrapped in code tags because otherwise XDA likes to split long words:
Code:
RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed.exe
The OTA update patches this to:
Code:
OTA_Ace_Cingular_US_1_84_502_11-1_80_502_3_P_release_186225z4g9g65j9b7kolus.zip
There is no RUU for 1.84.502.11 as far as I know. You cannot install the patch unless your phone is 100% stock. It uses patch files (BSDIFF) to update the system partition and because of this, the system files must be identical to the ones the patch was made for and if even one is not there or different (think build.prop i.e.) then the whole update aborts.
The only way I know of to get a clean update is to do it as intended by HTC (pathc a 100% stock ROM with the OTA update) or use Attn1's patched version of the ROM from the dev section:

This is correct.
They released it yesterday, but I had already installed the one that was "leaked". So today I compared the official release and the leaked one, and they are in fact the exact same thing. No need to wait to recieve it OTA, just go to the thread where the RUU is avaliable for download. It's all the same thing.

Try doing a factory reset to see if that helps with your gps.
After installing the leaked file I did a factory reset just for the heck if it to make sure things are all cleared out.
I wanted to install this just to see but when I tried I just got hung up on the HTC black logo screen
I'd root but im so worried about pricking my phone.

Will the new HTC patch/update force an upgrade to 2.3.4?

It looks like HTC has admitted they left some of their newer Android phones open to hacking, and so they are issuing an "emergency" OTA update. My question is, will this update force 2.3.4 on Sensation users or can I still keep 2.3.3. The main reason (as MANY likely know) is that the 2.3.4 update 'broke' a lot of functionality and caused more problems than it is worth. Has anyone received the update, and if so, can you confirm if it "upgrades" your version?
I got the 2.3.4 version and I can't say that there's any big difference. But I'm new to android.

I do not believe the patch has even been released.
i believe, and its strictly opinion that yes it would force you to 2.3.4. reason bein is why patch the older rom when you think everyone is using the newer. just sayin

I am not so sure. I just read some more about the patch and it apparently is specific to the version of Sense that is running on the phones, NOT the version of Android the device has on it. However I guess we will need to wait and see!

that may be the case but really you gotta realize that htc updated our phones to run 2.3.4 even though this is a sense issue not android im sure the devs st htc will be workin on 2.3.4 rom to patch up the system cause its the most up to date and they think all of us are running that. my opinion of course
The patch is actually to fix the app HtcLogger.apk, which can be present in ANY version of Sense if HTC included it. As yet, there is no OTA update available. I don't remember seeing it in the 2.3.4 RUUs but I'll check and let you know. It definitely wasn't in 2.3.3
EDIT: OK, which RUU was 2.3.3? Been so long since I've used them I only have from 1.45.401.2 onwards!
I have a Sensation via 02 telco in the UK and recently got an OTA patch approx 41mb which moved the device to 2.3.4. I dont know if its an 02 patch or an HTC patch.
It all seems to work fine - biggest difference is that i can now take screenshots.
appols if this is irrelevent or unhelpfull to your query
I thought this was an issue that wasn't affecting our phones?
I went to look for htclogger.apk with rootexplorer and it wasn't even there.

I am pretty sure it affects all newer HTC models, and even older ones since they added it to Sense OTA updates. Where were you looking for the file and what version are you running on your device?

But 2.3.3 isn't the latest update. Shouldn't the phone be giving me notifications to update to the latest available version? like 2.3.6 maybe?
Simply root your phone and choose any rom you like. No need to wait for an update.
I bought my phone 26the December, I kept checking for update never got one then I read post it will only update to latest one since they have stopped it temporary u will either have to root/ do it manually or just wait

The update strategy of google is really confusing :
No dates, no indication, no explanations why they stopped OTA. The most surprising thing to me is : why stopping 2.3.6 OTA while the problem is about the 4.0.3 version?
Its for a couple of days m8 most people would be hacked of if they had to update there fine every to minutes

easiest solution, and you dont have to wait on anybody.. update manually. there are links to all the android versions, available to the nexus s, posted here in xda. and you dont need root to update an official stock rom with an official stock rom.

No need to unlock bootloader if you're flashing stock ROM
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
If you want to go stock(no root, no unlocked bootloader, no custom recovery) wouldn't recommend updating to ICS OTA, since there is that battery drain bug, that has yet to be fixed.
Also downgrading back to GB is quite tricky, if not imposible without unlocking the phone.
there's no bug, they just paused it, you can download it from here and just rename it and flash through the stock recovery!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
But why to flash if there is a battery bug for most of people. You got to be lucky.

I haven't had a problem
