Pulled OTA update changes - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What changes have you noticed *if* you got your GNote early enough to received that now pulled OTA update? I've gotten my 2nd GTab from Amazon yesterday. My observations so far:
1) Pen seems to be less responsive on the new unit vs the old one. Flick sort of motion registers half the time but *a lot* more accurate on the 1st unit. Not sure if that's a software issue or if I've traded one issue for another.
2) Lag I reported earlier is there but less noticeable. Not sure if I can contribute that to better build quality. Assuming it's not a hardware issue with all GNote, it's most likely a software problem in general, which can be addressed in the future updates.
3) Serial # of the new unit is slightly behind the 1st o
4) No new software is loaded on it and it's still on 4.0.4.
Please share your update experience. Thanks.
PS unrelated: new unit seems to be a bit sturdier and back doesn't flex as much.

Smart alarm was added in the settings.
What does your back to do with the OTA update?

Nothing at all. Was just making an observation.

I'm from Malaysia and just gotten my GNote 10.1 yesterday and out of the box I receive not 1 but 2 OTA, each 15mb and 11mb respectively.
Still can't find any changes compared to the early adopters here

[A510] Tablet getting sluggish after some uptime - possible solution

Especially after the latest OTAs I had the following issue with my A510:
- after some uptime (a couple of hours) the tab would become very slow and finally unresponsive
- this was accompanied by a steady drop in free RAM (to around 30MB)
- adding up memory used by apps wolud not account for that and no memory mgmt. would help, only reboot (->memory leak?)
This problem persisted throughout all custom ROMs posted here. Yesterday on a hunch I installed an app to keep a partial wake-lock on the device. Since then the problem seems to be gone (uptime ATM: 15h).
Is it possible that deep sleep interferes w/ memory clean-up? Is the T3 (or those drivers for this old kernel) not made for suspend?
Also: Battery drain does not seem to have increased noticeably (certainly not if you had to go through reboots every couple of hours...). Again: is the T3 made to run on it's low-power core at 102MHz instead of sleeping?
And finally, for all those temp. fanatics : my tabs lower right corner is now much cooler than before...
DISLCAIMER: I know this is a A700 sub forum, but there is no A510 General and I certainly didn't develop anything. Additionally this might also affect the A700. If this thread still is unacceptable here pls move or delete.

If you have Olympic Edition like me- there is no OTA, latest firmware is xx.079 (latest 'generic edition' ota is xx.099 IIRC).

My Olympic edition had an OTA update the day I bought it, in August.

Galaxy S4 Buyer Beware?

Hi all so the Galaxy S4 has a fair few problems some that maybe software others that are hardware. Right now I'm saying Buyer Beware and I'm wondering if other owners would agree or disagree?
In this video I cover the problems I've had myself, I know others have had different problems.
Be interested to know what everyone thinks...
I've not really experienced any of the problems people are reporting. The only thing I have noticed (which is rather annoying) is random reboots when using either the camera or the gallery and Chrome seems to crash quite often too but obviously this could just be an issue with Chrome and not with the S4.
Never even heard of the wifi or headphones problem.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
None of this problems occurred to me.
1. Tried with my SteelSeries headphones and it never got distorted in any level of volume (I use adapt sound).
2. I played "need for drift" and it got hot after about 10 minutes but not as much as putting the device away. And it was actually after a few benchmarks (such as antutu, quadrant and GLbenchmark 2.5 and 2.7).
3. The rim around my headset is just fine (maybe this is a problem with the s600 variant).
4. In my country the S4 are selling like hotcakes and I was very lucky to put my hand on a headset (I needed to buy from directly from an official store of Samsung for the whooping amount of 3600 NIS [about 1000 USD] since all the retail stores had already sold all their units), only the official stores here have left with headsets and even them sold all their stock very quickly and needed fresh supply every few days.
P.S. My wifi works flawlessly
Im very haapy with the device. Aside from the screen smearing which all s4 phones are affected, it's only software issue can be easily fixed on further updates
Sent un Samsung Galaxia S Quatro LTE
I have not had any issues. Amazing phone coming from HOX. I would highly recommend the S4 to anyone.

I'm not seeing any of these issues, either. If I did, I'd chalk it up to being an early adopter. The customers working out some of the bugs is unfortunately the norm these days and I knew that going in. However, mine has been perfect in it's first 2 weeks. This is my first Samsung (wife has an S3) and I am enjoying the change from the much buggier HTC's I've had over the years.
I have just sent mine back due to a crackle at high volume whilst using headphones which are not cheap ones

The prob I'm having is it becomes too hot to hold comfortably, regardless of any thermal trip that will power the device off if its too hot to hold its not much use for gaming after 20 mins. I've also seen games start to stutter more when it reaches this point which may indicate the system throttling back to reduce the temp. I dont think i have overly sensitive skin others that have used it have said it was uncomfortably hot.

As you can see all over the this thread (including myself), no one has faced any issues or bugs as mentioned.
The only thing that happens to everyone (and it is a software problem that can fixed via application from play store) is smearing and it's simply because the software don't turn black pixels back on fast enough so you see smearing when you scroll really fast.
I had a build problem & software probs on my first batch pebble blue S3 i bought last year, main problem was it kept dust around the edges that couldn't be removed, the software probs were sorted with updates, one being the audio quality were it would make a clicking sound when it went into sleep when listeining mp3's, also could have died at any point as it had the bad EMMC.
I recently bought another S3, build December 2012, no probs with build quality and a new revision of EMMC chip.
Just hoping now the build quality better on the 2nd batch can live with the software bugs as they will be sorted at some point.

Disappointed with Tab 3 7"

So I got my tab free with my note 3 (yes I can hear you say you got it free, what's the problem) and was chuffed until I booted up the tab, first the screen flickers (very slight but noticeable) is this a fault or the norm, secondly android 4.1.2 are samsung really releasing the tab 3 with 4.1.2 and I don't believe kk will be available until I see it, thirdly no Dev for it, fourth no hml or otg support, fifth it's slower than my HTC sensation. Now before I had the tab I was happy with my laptop/mobile combo but the tab has given me a taste for tablets. Rant over

What carrire are you with, I got mine from Sprint and it came with 4.2.2 out of the box. I havent noticed a flicker in the screen yet. There is not a whole lot of Dev for it, I don't do a whole lot of posting but I have been a little moved to try and port Miui over to it.

I noticed mine was doing this when I first got it a couple of weeks ago (more noticeable in the dark).
I'm not 100% sure, but it may have something to do with the 'Smart Stay' option, which maintains a bright display as long as
you're looking at it.
Try disabling it in the pull-down menu at the top of the screen.

Have you updated to latest version of Android?
Only bought mine a couple of weeks ago and when I checked, there was an update available.
Not sure waht was originally on my device, but it's currently:
Android Version: 4.2.2
Kernel Version: 3.4.34-2192622
Build Number: JDQ39.P5210XXUAMK8
Like I said earlier, mine was flickering when I originally received it, but I haven't noticed it lately.
Does it do it when the brightnes is set manually?

OTA Update

I just got an OTA update. The "details" weren't detailed at all... just "improvements to android." This is just a heads up if you want to check for one. I'm also curious if anyone knows if this brings any improvements?
I don't have a wireless charger (Samsung has it and is supposed to be fixing it) but maybe this will fix the wireless charging problem?

Someone in the other thread said they worked for Verizon and that the last update allows for Samsung pay to work, but since they aren't officially supporting it, the last step is Samsung making a special update to give it the feature, somehow not through Verizon?
Everything is hearsay, anecdotal, and annoying. But that's all we've got I suppose.
The update makes the wireless charging worse for me using the older mini charger, it worked fairly well before the update.
Correct, It unlocks the functionality needed for Samsung Pay, Verizon and Samsung are still negotiating official support. Samsung is not willing to activate Verizon members cards until Verizon makes an agreement.
I hesitantly took this update on my Note5, and so far regret it. Everything was running absolutely fine until the update, then things got weird. I get ANRs, which isn't a terrible thing when seldom, but then the lock screen crashed over and over, and wouldn't let me do anything. Also, during the crash, it showed my home screen wallpaper and contents, which I'm pretty sure is a security concern. Anyways, I had to do a hard reset, and it cleared that issue up, but now boot time is significantly longer and the finger print reader is giving me problems. Not once did I have a problem with the finger print reader before the update. I'll look into this and see if anything in my control is causing this instability.

Get Zimperium stagefright detector from the play store and it will show the device is still vulnerable.
Now I'm not having issues like other users but Antutu scores dropped and things like crossy road are unplayable.
If this is how things are to come I'm done. This device was nearly perfect and now not so sure. I'm still in my 14 day period to return this device, may just do that.
More than likely it's due to the new kernel. With a locked bootloader this is impossible for the user to fix.

Also, it seems to be confirmed that the OTA update does allow for Samsung Pay to work. Now we have to wait for the app to be released to the play store.

Im not even mad. Oreo beta 3 works fine for me only issue is the signal bars going mad ( not actually effecting signal)
Either way it's a good choice 8.1 is a more significant update than 8.0 was.
I'm glad that they are so open about their development. I love this phone I'm in Beta3 rooted with all the Magisk modules I wanted working.
B3 working well for me. No root.
Lately we had all sort of rushed software going out with all sorts of problems. Apple, Intel and so on.
I rather wait for a quality version than have something rushed out of the door because someone in marketing decided it was a good idea or because of impatience.
I'm happy that they're skipping 8.0. PH-1 isn't the only phone that has had issues with 8.0. I'd rather they take their time and get a good stable build, than release some buggy **** that disappoints. I'm also on Beta 3 running AOSiP 8.1. It's pretty great.
From a software build perspective it's not a big deal to go straight to 8.1. Kind of silly not to.

To me it's not exciting news, because as someone else mentioned it means any possible fixes for the touchscreen problems are going to be further delayed. I will be happy to be proven wrong, but the skeptic in me thinks that this is just a delaying tactic because Essential still does not have fixes for the touchscreen ready yet. They know by shifting the release target to 8.1 they are giving themselves a lot more time to get things sorted out, as now I'm sure there are going to be multiple 8.1 beta releases. Their problem was that there were already three 8.0 betas released, and I think everyone was expecting that the 8.0 final would be coming next. But if Essential releases a final Oreo build with the touchscreen issues still present, it's really going to be bad for the company. By switching to 8.1 they have given themselves a few more chances to fix the touchscreen before a non-beta release comes.

I think is not about magnifying the issue.
The touchscreen issue is quite obvious when one try to tap the screen with the phone on a flat surface.

yeah I agree, and I don't even like this phone. But the jitter thing was a bit overblown.
Um yeah, my comment has nothing to do about scrolling. It has to do with the fact that, several times a day, my phone's touchscreen becomes wildly unresponsive and does not register most touches. I then have to lock the phone and unlock it again to be able to type properly. This is a well-documented issue with this phone unless you've been living under a rock (or don't look at reddit, which has much more active of a community than XDA for this device).
There will be monthly security released for 8.0 and 8.1 betas until an official goes out.

I am not sure what the jitter thing is, but I am hoping that we get official Oreo soon and fix the bugs that are there...
Only issue that bothers me is the crazy ghost touches registering every blue moon. A reboot fixes it, but it happens here and there still.

Yes, this ^
I've been having this issue since day one. I've tried factory resets to no avail. It happens with stock launcher 3 and nova prime. I'm not rooted and now running ob3. The problem has persisted and I'm quite disappointed. I'm ready to pack it in and go to another device. I hate giving up on something but I believe that this phone was a mistake for me to purchase. It's a real shame because there is a lot of potential here and who doesn't love the simplicity and weightlessness of stock Android. Just my 2ยข
