Voice commands on Synergy - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have searched through our forum and found some members with similar issues and maybe some with the same issue but I don't think they have been resolved. Then there are a few reporting everything is working beautifully. I am on Synergy 1.7 r68 and leankernel v0.6. I can make the device respond to commands for the camera and music player but not the phone. Am I missing one of those check boxes somewhere? I feel like I have looked everywhere and am missing something simple. I thought it may be Google Now instead of stock search? I don't use it a lot (yet, still trying to work out if it is going to be useful to me) and at this point would replace it to have this functionality. Any Ideas?

Not exactly sure what your trying to get the command for, but tap Google Now where you would talk to device tap menu/settings and scroll thru that and see maybe you don't have everything enabled.

Thanks! I poked around in there already but I looked again, not what I am looking for. Specifically, it is the "answer" and "reject" command.

I think those settings will be enabled after You agree to the S-voice's EULA (EndUserLicenseAgreement)
I believe mine started working after I played with "S-voice" for a bit and agreed to their services. But I just looked in there I didn't see any settings like that. You could still try tho

Open Google now (or search if you have the "now" option disabled), press menu key, go to settings, go to phone search, be sure contacts is checked. Check all your voice settings in the phones main settings menu too under language and input. If that doesn't work, update your rom nightly, I'm on r71 with no Now issues that stand out.

No onscreen keyboard on 5.0.2h

Hi all
Sorry to make a new thread but this is something that just does not make any sense. I took the plunge when 5.0* was released and I currently do not have the onscreen keyboard. There is a guy on these forums that was nice enough to help me out through gchat but I haven't gotten anywhere.
Just to be clear I have wiped several times and reflashed several times and I do not even have the MENU OPTION to enable the onscreen keyboard. The following picture should show what I mean (sorry I'm really bad at photoshop).
Anybody have a clue what to do? I'm willing to wipe again but it seems pointless because I've done it several times.
Also, I tried out the "G" version just to check it out and the onscreen keyboard comes up on this one.
That's odd. I installed 5.0.2H this morning and have no issues with the VK.
Is there a way to DBAN the G1? Something "better" than al+w? I'm desperate lol.
You must of not flaseheed correctly.
Make sure when you flash you press home and back together. Don't press Phone - Menu and Power
If you still have problems go into settings - Locale & Text
Make sure touchput Chinese is checked.
Mine works fine so yours should as well.
Good Luck
Is this Robbie? If it isn't, there is someone else with the same problem on another forum, so it isn't an isolated issue.

I've got bad news for you. Robbie forgot that he disabled it because he didn't know what he was clicking in settings.
He remembered this morning what he did, and now he's got it back. I hope your problem is as easy to solve.
One thing, it took me a few minutes to find mine, because I didn't realize that you have to click in the text box to have it appear.
Great. I guess I am losing my mind. Does anybody's "Locale & Text" look like mine?
71HC, could you check if /system/app/HTC_CIME.apk exists? )This is HTC's chinese touch input application and it's huge (>1M).) You can do this by typing "ls /system/app/HTC_CIME.apk" in Terminal or adb shell. if it's not, extract the file from the zip and adb push it to /system/app/ folder. Then reboot the phone. You make have to long press in a textbox to bring up the context menu and select input method, but the IME has to be enabled in Locale & text first.
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I looked it up on terminal and it looks like its there. I also looked it up on Linda file manager and it seems to be there. Can I long press it and install it from there? I was hoping it would be missing so that your solution would work. Now I'm even more confused.
I went ahead and tried to install HTC_CIME.apk
It told me that textinput chinese could not be installed on this device

Google Now Complete w/ Voice Search

This is in no way mine and all credit goes to the Original Developer/s but just in case you hadnt seen it.

I am waiting on the latest files to finish uploading then will test on my SGS3 and report.
So i'm running a stock rom rooted. Installed and checked permissions and they seem to be fine.
When i run the voice search app, if it comes up and doesn't automatically come up waiting for my speech i have to click on the search bar and then it will work. The voice search works without an issue and comes up, and the Google Now Cards work as far as a i can tell the same way they were working when i was running the CM10 Rom.
I haven't found any negatives beyond the sketchy voice start up yet, but just in case don't forget to BACKUP!!!
Yes! Can't wait to try this! Now I can wait for cm10's bugs to be fixed
---------- Post added at 07:02 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:28 AM ----------
Double tapping home brings me to a dialer, but adding a search widget to the home screen and clicking the voice buttons brings up cards perfect. W00t!
when i double tap to bring it up, it doesn't recognize me talking, so it says 'didn't catch that'. when i go to the app itself from the search bar, i can tap the mic once and it recognizes everything i say, but when i tap the mic to do another search, it won't activate without hitting refresh.
i'm using the mikeyxda version 2
Yeah I installed this and my voice search app got all messed up, kept saying "I didnt catch that" even though I said nothing. Also i couldnt back out of the app once in it with the back button, I had to go to home then kill it with task mngr. I cant wait for all the bugs to get worked out cuz I really liked Now. Keep us posted.
They have updated the original post to include new instructions and an updated file. I flashed the file last night and most of my little issues are fixed.
I still have the issue where i cant back out and have to go back using the home button.
I would say if you are having issues where it doesnt understand what you are saying double check your permissions and make sure your 'voice search' that comes up is a white screen and not a black or dark box. The dark box is still your old voice search.
I don't see any updates on there. You're talking about the link in your original post right?

Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere, but my cards only work when I'm on wifi... is this how Google Now is supposed to work? The voice search works great with or without wifi.
I am using the newest files Mikeyxda's version 6. When I'm not on wifi, the cards try refreshing but nothing comes up.
Should I try deleting the older zip file? What is the best way to delete the older file and any data that comes with it?
EDIT: Now it seems to be working... strange.
Voice was working fine for me, but the app still would freeze up from time to time. Trying to enter a simple web search into the search box though for the web causes it to hang and do nothing 95% of the time for me.
Trying to get this to work and going thru all these different threads with different links has been one of the most confusing things I've ever done regarding my phone. Rooting was easier. Can someone please pm me when there is a fully working Now app. I'm done trying.

[Q] Odd classic voice dialer intermittently when using wired headset

Folks,
Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.
Running stock 4.4.2, rooted, Franco Kernel, w/ Xposed ( GravityBox ) and Tasker
Has anyone else had problems with a single button wired headset intermittently launching a classic looking voice dialer versus the new voice search stuff when using the headset's button?
I basically have a Tasker profile that unlocks and wakes my phone after I plug in my headset. This all works fine.
Problem is, when trying to actually use the headset to call someone, this classic looking (and I say that because it's a black background with white text, nothing fancy) voice dialer comes up but no matter what, can not make out what I am asking it to do.
If I hit the back button and try the headset button again, it will then sometimes go to the new voice search and work completely as expected. Not every time. Sometimes the classic dialer wants to hang around for 2 or 3 attempts.
Anyone seen this before? I was hoping to find a way to just disable this 'classic' voice dialer because I'm essentially trying to have my phone be more hands free if the headset is plugged in and know the new voice search works just fine.
Thanks,
bambam2k3

Could you try starting your device in safe mode and not running any apps you've installed to test if one of them is causing the problem? If you don't experience the problem while in safe mode that's a good indication that an app you've installed is the source of your issue.
I'd appreciate it if you could let me know how your safe mode test went after you get a chance to give it a try.

Joannn,
Thanks for the thoughts.
I tested safe mode and the classic voice dialer does not come up at all so it definitely has to be some sort of app or weird way my system is calling something when using the headset in normal mode.
I tried the following with no success in normal mode:
1) Disabled Xposed and all modules - rebooted - no change
2) Disabled tasker and tested with just plugging in the headset and testing the button - no change
3) Switched from Nova launcher back to stock launcher - no change
4) Uninstalled a headset button control app - no change
So, I'm not sure why the phone randomly thinks this old dialer is the correct one to launch, nor do I have any idea where it is coming from. It doesn't appear to be a separate app and even when I look through the system apks, I see nothing that looks like it references this classic voice dialer. Not sure what's triggering it.

instead of looking in your app drawer, since apps dont always get put there, open the phones main settings, apps, and look there.

I've got to assume it's something related to Tasker or the Secure Settings plugin for it. I uninstalled every single app I could think of that may have had the ability to make any calls of any nature, and in Settings>Apps I don't see the Voice Dialler at all, even before I started uninstalling things.
Without Tasker being used, I haven't seen the bad dialer come back again.
Was really only using tasker to get around the fact that the headset button is ignored if the phone is pin locked. Guess I'll try and find another way around it.
Thanks for your help,
bambam2k3
Okay, I'm going to take that back.
It's got to be stock somehow. I read some other posts and a quick google image search shows other people with the same dialer, especially when using bluetooth headsets from the lockscreen. I've pretty much removed everything from my phone aside from the stock apps. In the varying posts I've seen, the spelling is incorrect in 50% of them, and I don't know maybe if that has something to do with the language settings of the phone.
I also tested a bluetooth headset that had never been paired with my phone before and when the phone is locked, I get the odd dialer, when it's unlocked, I get the proper google voice search.
My next step would be to completely wipe and reinstall. But, I think I'm going to keep trying to figure this out before going to that length.

the spelling incorrect is not google. and if it was google, it would be spelled incorrect for all, not 50% of the people. the next question is do you have a mod for your lockscreen? whatever it is, it is not googles app that you screenshoted. and you wrote that in safemode, it didnt appear. which also indicates that its a 3rd party app.

Simms,
Figured out the 'spelling mistake'. Since I'm Canadian, I was running my phone in English (UK) versus English (US). When I changed it back to English (US), now Dialer is spelled correctly.
As for lockscreen mods, I do have GravityBox running with some Lockscreen tweaks, but in my previous testing, I totally shutdown Xposed. That's all I've got. Had the same problem with it totally disabled.
Just came across this post on Android Police with a lot of comments with the exact same problem I'm having. Seems even with using Tasker and Secure Settings to disable Pin lock, turn off keyguard, wake the device and take it to the homescreen, the phone still thinks the screen is 'off' and brings up the old dialer.

so it seams then that you either need to update your google search or you are using a samsung device and not a nexus 5.

Ok Google with Home Button

Ok So pretty simple request. I want to activate "Ok Google" using the home button just like S Voice or Siri behaves. With Google set as the Device Assistance App a long press of the home button pulls up the google app, then I have to click the mic button. Or I have to activate it by saying "Ok Google" which is super annoying. I've searched everywhere for a solution and the only thing I found was the following:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQue...t_possible_to_activate_ok_google_with_a_home/
Which doesn't work at all on the S7. A long press of the home button opens the Launcher App which asks me to select google. Basically adding a 3rd step.
I'd appreciate any help!
I use the Google Now Launcher and I had that ability. I will have to play around with my settings to get it back because I installed Labs so when I hold my home button down it waits for me to say a contact name and it calls them. I will have to get back with you on that when I can get access to my phone.
Ok, maybe the new version of the launcher doesn't support that. Now long press doesn't do voice search, it instead shows Now on Tap, but different than what I remember.

Yup.. I still haven't found a workaround. Having the mic always on to detect "OK Google" seems to be a waste of battery.
Hopefully a solution comes up. Thanks for trying.

I have found a solution that works great! I just tested it myself.
Download this app here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dynamicg.homebuttonlauncher&hl=en
You'll want to open it up, select the 3 dots, and then select add.
Add Voice Search, then do the same steps but remove whatever else was there by default.
Now if you're on marshmallow, which I assume you are, then you'll need to go to Settings -> Applications -> Default Applications -> Phone assistance app
And change it to Home Launcher
Give that a try and let me know if that works for you.

You are the man!!!! This worked.. "Auto Start mode" had to also be selected but this finally got the job done.
It wasn't perfect at first. for some reason the responses to my questions where not audible.
For Example.. If I held the home button, the voice prompt shows up and I say "What's my next appointment?". It displayed the calendar item but didn't read back the result. If I activated it saying "OK Google" and asked the same question, I was shown the response and it read back to me. "You're next calendar entry is tomorrow at 7am...".
I tried it again a few more times. Now it seems to be working properly with the home button.
You've made my day. Wish I could buy you a pint of beer remotely.
Cheers!
A simple thanks is plenty, I've got all the beer I need in my fridge. Lol
Was looking for a solution as well. Works great. Thanks.

Adding a new dialer problem

Have to say overall using the OP6 Oxygen OS is like stepping back in time. Standard things you think would be available aren't. The settings are a mess and all over the place as if they just kept putting things anywhere as they added them piecemeal.
I'm trying to add a new dialer as the "stock" one is total crap and have tried numerous ones. It looks like it's almost a first edition of Contacts + , where they grabbed the code and dumbed it down.
Trying to use the Asus Contacts Dialer, it doesn't give a popup when clicking on either Sim button when placing a call as it does see the dual sim. However when I go into the settings, many things are missing in regards to settings. When I click on call settings I get this error message that displays on the screen:
" No installed activity available to handle selected action"
What does this mean? I tried searching for it but got no answers. I'm thinking part of the problem is the way they've done the coding in relation to the call settings that it is not in the correct place so other dialers can't find it. Anyway to get this working so I can disable or uninstall or stock dialer? I really don't want to have to root this phone.
I'm trying to live with this phone for a bit, It's nice I have wifi calling and Volte but that is where the excitement ends. Well when the network actually stays connected and I'm not using airplane mode to reconnect or taking out the sims.

May, other members help you out.
Agree the dialer is crap so I unlocked my phone just to put on magisk google dialer and contacts which is WAY better.
What the most likely problem is that the Asus Dialer app has some built in dependencies for zen. You would have to debug the apk. To find what they are and then find a way to add them to oos without jacking anything else up .
Waay above my skill set

I'll look into that thanks, to see if there is something else to add. Never had that issue when I added it to other devices though. But one never knows.
I'm still leaning towards the fact that their software is just a horrid mess because I've had problems with several other dialers as well.
