Yes they are, sensation & xe have the same hardware so ROMs for one will work on the other

As Jonny said, yes they're compatible.
Stock Sensation ROMs run at 1.2GHz
Stock Sensation XE ROMs run at 1.5GHz
Same hardware, slightly different software.
hardware is NOT the same.
XE soft keys and phone capsule are red u_u

bit of both really, the hardware differences are that the speaker grille is red and LED softkey panels are red then software is a new wallpaper, 2 values changed in ext.jar and widget.jar ( get pyramidLE flag returns 0x1 - true - instead of 0x0 - false) and the beats sound profile files, apart from that they are the same
I just find that some ROM's are specific to the Sensation only, and if it is installed on the xe will be recognized as a sensation

Actually the ICS XE software number is 3.32.401.105 not 3.32.301.5
As for the phone being recognised as a sensation, that is a line of text in build.prop file...

Actually it is 3.33.401.106 (has .106 at end) but nice try
There is a 3.32.401.105 build as well but the newest XE build is 3.33.401.106

Its basically all the same hardware minus the CPU I believe.
Its same phone with different cpu speed so you can use any rom

XE is the same phone. except for beats headphones.

I'm new to this forum and ROM-community. This is my first time trying a custom ROM. I’m currently running HyperNonsense on my Sensation XE with following software-specs.
Android: v. 4.0.3
Base: 11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M
Kernel: 3.0.16-gcfa14fc
Version: HyperNonSense v.0.6 3.30.401.1
Under model-number it says “HTC Sensation”. Did I do anything wrong, since it's not displayed as Sensation XE. I tried to find a little info about this, but I couldn’t find anything about this.

That ROM was made from a sensation base, not an XE base so it says sensation. Also the chef didn't include the files to make it say sensation XE

In other words: It's no big deal.
You can change the build prop to say xe if it makes you happy. I am running a sensation 4g rom, but edited it to say xe.

It means that the ROM you are running is a regular Sensation ROM, so it's running at 1.2GHz and doesn't include Beats Audio.
im planning to upgrade my htc sensation xe to 4.2 version. i already root my phone. i already search on this forum and the google looking for jellybean rom for HTC sensation xe. but i can't find it, all that i found is rom for htc sensation. can i use the rom for my sensation xe. for example from this

Sensation and Sensation XE is basically the same phone, so to answer your question, YES you can use Sensation roms on your XE

Although to be precise there are certain roms made purposely for certain devices like ARHD. So be noted of that.

There is no separate list of roms for the XE because apart from overclocked cpu and more powerful batter they are the same device....
So yes any sensation rom is also a XE rom
But watch out with Sensation XL roms, they are different and will not work.
