Both of the first questions are subjective mate. What may be good batter life for me may not be good for you. If I can go from unplugging in the morning, to plugging in at night with normal use without charging during the day, that's good use for me. However, some people NEED to try and squeeze more than that.
My advice: Flash some ROM's and see what's good for you!
Questions 3: See HERE.
Basically de-odexing a ROM makes it easier to Mod for the developer. It really doesn't benefit the user at all unless you plan on modifying the ROM yourself.
And IMO odexed ROM's are more stable. That's just my two cents though.
Here's some threads you should check that can answer most of your questions:

Thanks bro,
About 1st question. I want the advice about 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 or 4.0.4 batter life info from members
About 2nd questions. I tried many ROMs here (official and modded) ,but the problem that in some modded ROMs change log/discribtion,i saw a better battery life time , but in fact it does not !,so I need a trusted info from users (about modded ROMs)
About 3rd question, I see that is the only benefit for end users is speeding up app's execution, if there is more info , I will be glad

Did you see/read think link I gave you to read about odexing in my first post?

I'm asking for end user benefits,not dev's
anyway , i\m not noob , and i was asking 3rd question to choos between ROMULUS & REMUS roms

Ther are no benefits for for odexed or deodexed ROMs for users.
In my opinion odexed ROM's are more stable and I will always choose an odexed ROM over a de-odexed one.
My opinion: Go with Romulus

yah, so that i tried flashing ROMULUS odexed ROM , but i remove it cause of other issues.
thanks

[Q] New ROM to solve Problems?!

Hi all,
i'm new to this whole ROM and Flashing thing so sry for maybe stupid questions.
ATM my Sensation works with the stock ROM and no Mods but i sometimes got serious performance probs like laggs in closing or opening apps or go through the app list or mails.
I thought that probably a custom ROM could solve this problems cause most guys tell me they got a better performance with a custom ROM and a better battery life.
Most intersting ROM to me is Insert Coin atm but i read there could be issues with Exchange-Servers for Mail.
Maybe anyone could give me an advice if a custom ROM is a good idea or not.
Btw i am a noob in the ROM / Flash thing but im working in the IT business so i think i am not a noob in this at all and should learn fast! ;o)
i don't use exchange mail, but i recently rooted and installed insertcoin and it in indeed faster...i also used insertcoin on my desire and I've always enjoyed his roms
if you don't like it you can always go back to stock
On custom ROM you can do more than on stock. Generaly performance, battery life increase with custom.
There are more users of custom ROMS so support is better on this forum. Life is too short to use stock ROM

Which ROM ???

How do i choose a suited ROM for my desire S ?
There are so many.
It depends on the IMEI or something else ?
Also , whats a "prerooted" ROM ( different from "normal" ROM ? )
Grts
Answer to your last question: a pre-rooted ROM is a custom ROM which already provide root access. If you're unfamiliar to the term root, you should do a little more reading before flashing a custom rom to your device.
Just ensure that you've read through many of the threads available to anyone on this forum, and you'll have a smooth sailing through the seas of custom ROMs.
Your IMEI number doesn't matter.
Try Endymion, it's probably the best (personal opinion) Sense based ROM in the development section.
Loving my Desire S since rooting and flashing a custom ROM, like a new phone

Flinnys CM 11 alpha 3. Very fast and stable after my opinion. There are just some bugs with the camera(video) and bluetooth but check it out anyways.
Hello guys i didnt want to create a new thread.
My mother has a Desire S and is absolutely casual user, the only thing that is important is long battery life and that all features work (No ROMs with Camera bugs and so on pls)
She does not need Tablet Features and whatsoever.
Currently her phone runs MIUI 2.### which is a battery eater and quiet strange.
Do you have any ROM to suggest? Just a very stable, reliable Android with much battery life?
Thx for your help !

Hey guys!
Just got a second-hand Desire S.
I am looking for am advice about a custom ROM with Sense.
What is the highest version of Android with the highest version of Sense available? The best would be: Sense 5.5 with Kit-kat I think.
Any suggestions? Would like a "stable" version if possible.

[Q] Advise on stable rom

Looking for a (close to) 100% stable rom... I know, this is not a good question on XDA. Its for a desire S for my mom. Doesn't really mattter if its stock, ICS, JB or whatever. Not even sure if its worth it to root. Or you can send me in the right direction about Android or Sense version.. All help to narrow the ROM selection would be great..
Saw you guys are reviving development for this phone. Good luck with that!
SVHD. Smooth and stable, only need to freeze "myhub" app, because It's now paid app and make fc.
Stock
Saga3D or Stock 2.3.5
+1 for SVHD ... apperantly it is a little bit outdated (ICS) but great so far ... very good battery life and smooth ...
Hello
I want install SVHD rom to my second phone. But i don't know what to do exactly. When i do everything what is on this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100 it will work?

Try CoolDroid Revolution rom or SVHD rom. Both are very stable.
Try to stay away from 4.2.2 roms. the battery especially for this device is bad

Advices about ROM and Kernel

Hi all,
I know this question was asked a lot of times but I was away from this community for a lot of time so I need some info.
I'm using Back-to-Note v13.1 and Arter kernel last version.
I'd like to update my device but I'm not sure what rom+kernel combo to flash.
I need stability and a really good battery life, extreme performance is not my main goal since normal one is enough.
Thanks a lot!
Stock ROM.... when do you people finally understand. If you need root, just change the kernel and stay on stock ROM. The stock ROM is the fastest and smoothest with highest battery life.
I can understand and accept your point of view but a well developed Custom ROM is way better than Stock ROM.
Right now, the only stock one I'm interested to is the official MM release!
