Hello all! Although I have been a forum follower daily, this is my first post.
I am offering up a bounty of $1000 USD to help me finally resolve the global capabilities of the Verizon I535.
Recently, I purchased this phone, replacing an iPhone, from Verizon in the US. I returned home here to the Dominican Republic and learned that this phone is not capable of connecting to our local networks other than Edge technology.
I started trying all the advanced settings through various ROM's and actually came VERY close to enabling 3G. The signal came on for about 30 seconds and then reverted back to Edge. CM10's ROM was the closest that gave me this option.
So! Who wants to join in this Bounty???? OR, would someone be interested in swapping my I535 for an ATT model??
Thanks everyone and looking forward to the follow up posts!!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did try everything that has been on that forum link.
I found another that I believe is on the right track to what may be missing in enabling true 3G.
This was the quote that caught my attention:
"If it is anything like the Rezound, it comes SIM unlocked from the factory, but the stock TW framekwork may not support the full GSM capabilities yet. CM10 doesn't sim unlock it, it just adds the missing code. "
Again, thanks for any info!

If there possibly is not a fix for this issue, is someone willing to trade a working Global phone for my S3?? Today I looked at a friend who has a Droid Razor that just received an update from Verizon and it works flawlessly. Also, the same friend has a Rezound working too.
Any takers? I'm starting to really HATE this S3 with this issue. It is like being on Dial Up internet service on an old Commodore 64 PC!
Frustrated....
You could buy an unlocked phone for the $1000 bounty.

Yes, I could, but I was trying to keep my i535. I cant find an ATT model S3 here locally in the DR for anywhere near $1000.
My carrier is Claro and the cost to buy one from them is approx $1485 USD. So, the Bounty is still less.
Good phones here in the DR are better than having gold in your pocket. Literally! People kill each other over technology here, sad but true.
If you want it bad enough - prepare to pay heavily.
You have a phone you would like to sell me then??
Holy cow, that's crazy. No I don't have one to sell you.

Alright, here I go. So there is this new company coming out that is offering $49/month unlimited everything without a contract. Now, they have a list of phones that are compatible with their service via a SIM card you buy from them. They are running on a GSM network and they say that Verizon and Sprint phones will not work because the are CDMA. Now, would it be possible for a rooted Verizon or Sprint phone to work? I'm thinking it would be because you can change what type of network you're on with a rooted phone with quite a few different apps. It's also possible for people to buy a Verizon phone, root it and run it on T-Mobile or ATT.
I'd like to believe doing this is possible but obviously you experts on this forum know way more than I do so I thought I would ask here.
Thanks
No, not possible. CDMA uses different technology. Even if you have an unlocked Verizon Iphone, it will only work overseas, not in the United States.

Damn, that sucks. I was really hoping it was possible to do. This company also has a great compensation plan for bringing in new customers and I was really hoping to use this to my advantage.
Thanks for the reply lowandbehold
you are able to buy a rooted T-Mobile compatible phone on Ebay from reputable sellers. what network are you trying to hook up to? it seems like a very good price.

The company is called Solavei, which runs on the T-Mobile network. Yes, it's a very good price. It's also a great opportunity to make money.
If you want to take a look at what they have to offer I created a site with information bestcellcompany.com
The reason I was asking the original question was because if it was actually possible to use a rooted Verizon or Sprint phone on the Solavei network, it would be pretty huge and I could use that info to my advantage.
Thanks for the replies guys

I was looking for a nice way to get the info to the guys here about, "solavei.com/marathon2422" as i am an avid user of omega roms on my S3 gt19300, and used lots of roms on my gt 19100, i was hoping maybe to "payback" some of my use of roms and info and help from here.
This is of course only good for those in the USA.
I'm switching carriers. My ATT contract is done and I want to move to T-Mobile. I want to keep this phone so how do I unlock it for T-Mobile without paying unlock genie or any other sites that offer unlock codes.
I manage to to unlock my older devices like HTC Vivid, Inspire 4G and even the Galaxy S2 SGH-1777 for free, but can't seem to find any information about the skyrocket mostly all are not free.
You can't

ATT would not give me the sim codes, because they wanted me to stay with them, but I need a cheaper plan and ATT would not work with me so T-Mobile has given me the best deal yet. I added this to those many posts to see if anyone would know right away if there's a free way of doing it,but I guess not.

I had mines unlock for $9.99
I had contacted AT&T 3 times about unlocking my phone and they could not find the unlock code. There database showed it did not exist. I tried a unlock company for 20 bucks and they could not unlock it either. I was refunded. Something makes me think some of these phone are only for one carrier? Because the first time I contacted AT&T about my wife's s2 to unlock, I got the code.
Which roms or leaks have a carrier unlock ..
I been looking around cant seem to find a definite answer ... so does cleanrom give your phone capability in using any carrier .. I just need to be be sure I have to cut my chip into a microchip in order to use the phone .. Before I do this i need to be sure it would work ..
I have version 4.1.1
No ROM has that it is an entirely different procedure involving unlocked sim cards.

There is a thread for getting the VZW S3 to work on T-Mobile, but it takes some work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013647
A few ROMs (as you indicated with CleanRom) have universal installers for different Carriers, but in no way does this mean that it will allow you to switch your phone to AT&T, Sprint, or any other carrier.

eh theres always a way ..
Correct me if I'm wrong.
But.
The Verizon galaxy s3 uses a CDMA antenna.
So if you were to unlock it. You could use on CDMA carries.( Verizon Wireless, Sprint, MetroPCS, Cricket, and U.S. Cellular)
However. If you can get your phone to FULLY work on GSM (T-MOBILE or at&t)
You should make a thread about it and I'm sure you will get tons of donations.
There is already something for T-Mobile. But I heard it has limited success.

Still a noob to the development scene, but long time surface runner in rooting/etc.
That being said, if this can be done (I took a look at the thread linked above), couldn't it technically work the other way around?
My fiancee has a Galaxy on T-Mobile, but wants the GS3. Her contract runs out about the same time as mine so I thought, I'll give you my S3 and buy the S4 for myself (she doesn't always need the latest and greatest like I do what can I say I'm a technophile). I quickly learned about locked phones, different network types, etc. In this case, since there's a 4GLTE SIM card in my S3, is it possible to give it to her to use on T-Mobile? In that case I may just migrate over to T-Mobile myself, since it's significantly cheaper for what I need in a cell phone plan. Otherwise, we're currently looking at adding a line to my Verizon plan so she can leave T-Mobile. Honestly, I'm OK with either idea, since I'm either saving money by going to T-Mobile, or sticking with great network coverage and speed on Verizon.

If you look up, you'll see how you can use the VZW GSIII on TMO. I think the primary issue would be that you only get Edge data when using the VZW GSIII on TMO.
For pricing, TMO is better plus you can stop worrying about third party hacks to use a phone on another carrier since top unlocked GSM phones can be imported.
Hello,
I am looking into purchasing a Galaxy S3, full retail price, in order to preserve my unlimited plan with Verizon. I have a contact in Germany, employed at T-Mobile, who can get me the SIII GT-I9300 at an employee discount. I am on board to get it, however I am concerned about whether Verizon will let me activate and use this phone in the US or not. My German contact talked to a service clerk who said it will work in the US, however I'm not so sure about the legality of it and whatever tricks Verizon might have up their sleeves.
Also, I read something about it being a "GSM" phone and not working on Verizon because it uses "CDMA." Is this true? Does that mean this option is totally out??
Sorry if I sound like a newbie about this! I don't know much about the smartphone world.
Thanks
Don't think the -I9300 will work on Verizon different insides
Edit- I called big red for you. they said no it won't work on Their network.

My only options are:
1) Buying/giving up my unlimited data for a verizon sIII, which is inferior to the international version
2) Waiting until Verizon comes out with something better at a reasonable price (haha)
3) Buying the phone from my friend, who wont be able to get me the deal for very much longer because he's switching companies in a couple months. Then start up with T-Mobile USA and dump Verizon.
Does anyone have any experience switching to T-Mobile? Any suggestions? Might I have another option in this whole mess?

When I was in Germany I visited the electronic store to get a vodafone sim card for my (American) Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3. I was able to use text and make and receive phone calls but no data. The problem lies in Verizon software which does not allow adding an APN. All of the European Samsung Galaxy S3's are already unlocked. You may want to have your friend verify. I rooted, unlocked and flashed a rom that now allows me to add APN and my German Vodafone sim card now works.

Even with safestrap a locked phone is still locked....and development has suffered. On Wednesday the Nexus 6 comes out and it will have an unlocked bootloader....just have to pay full price most likely. I know I could have done this with the Samsung Dev edition but I won't give Samsung more money for a dev phone when I have already bought one, what bull ****. I know it isn't Samsung's fault but I don't give a ****, It's your phone, they didn't lock it you did! They told you to and you did. You could have said no. Do you think for a minute Verizon wouldn't of caved in and said ok leave it unlocked? What do you think a Verizon store would look like without a Galaxy Tab, Note, or S5? What do you think a Ford dealership would look like without the F150?
The GS5 has been an eye opener for me and it's sad to say that as of the day my Nexus arrives I'll be done with all of Samsung's phones. What a shame Samsung. I know I'm just *****ing but it's sad that a phone as bad ass as the GS5 is and I can't even flash a kernel on it....Not even real CM.
So you bought a non-dev device, and are upset because it's locked? And Motorola has been bootloader locking their phones for a long time too, guess they shouldn't have either. Unless you buy a specifically unlocked version, I suspect it'll be the same story on the Nexus as the S5, Carrier locked.

Perfect first response:good:.
Motorola started locking bootloaders, years ago and anyone that had an X2 (like myself) will look twice at buying a Motorola product. I'm happy with my S5, great battery and great performance.

I'm not buying it from a carrier it's supposed to be unlocked. I'm buying it directly from the play store tomorrow. I don't think Google will lock their phone. Verizon won't have a ****ing chance to lock it as they won't have no ****ing part in the sale.
They made it to where ONE phone will work on all major networks in America out of the box. I'm glad so I don't need Verizon to OK it or anything. Plug in my sim and go hard.

lol. that's incorrect. The phone has all of Verizon's bands build in. Verizon don't own the bands it's an open standard. do your homework better. I can take a sprint phone and put it on Verizon it doesn't matter at all. Just so happenes Google made this phone to include all bands and networks in the USA. I'm just concerned about them activating it, with Verizon being CDMA and only using SIM's for LTE im afraid they wont activate it without being Verizon branded like they do with any phone. If they were GSM this wouldn't be an issue what-so-ever. Boot loader should be unlocked as in usual nexus fashion.

Hello NOT being waterproof (water resistant), Hello anyone can install a themer, Hello every other phone gets updates later than the Nexus.
I'm not saying your points aren't valid, they're just not going to make me switch!
I can't wait to get my nexus 6. Of course the bootloader will be unlocked. It is a nexus device. It is meant for developers. If you want custom roms, a nexus device is the best way to go. I loved my galaxy nexus and then switched to the s3 and now the s5. They are great phones but I want the flexibility of the nexus 6. Also have you seen the specs for this nexus? Top notch stuff finally in a nexus phone. In all it comes down to preference but I'm selling my s5 and getting the nexus 6.
So... why not just take this conversation to the correct forum? Why must we always start cluttering up threads with posts that have nothing to do with the device specific forum?
