First off, I am a complete noob, please, reply accordingly.
Say, I have an application, which requires wifi to be connected in order to work. If I start it without wifi it just wouldn't work. I tried to change permissions and remove "check wifi status" permission but this only crashes the application.
Now the question, is possible to decompile the apk and remove wifi state check?
Thanks
I am also looking for the solution to this problem so I can stream live tv using the TWC TV app over mobile data.

Yep, my problem is very similar.
Were you able to find a solution, or to find out that no solution is possible. I can't believe that guys in this thread, who know everything can't just tell us "it's impossible" or 'it's possible, just do so and so".

Hi,
I've got a Samsung focus on Bell (unlocked)
I have updated and unlocked the phone to 8107 and it seems I have the tethering function working but when I connect another computer to it, it says limited connectivity and doesn't get any data whereas I can surf the web on the phone itself...sometimes I will get a few mb of data but not much
Anything I can check to see if I enabled it right in the firmware?
Thanks.
Would love some help...
It seems the tethering will work for a few minutes and then stop...I have to stop sharing and then enable it again and the cycle goes on...
Anything I can check?
I unlocked with the windowbreak project...
Thanks.

Just a thought from my view, as i dont really know your situation with using windows break. But maybe you should use this xap that installs the interop-unlock and internet sharing and use the install process to see if it may help configure things for you. Here is the link for the xap and info:http://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=23311443
Then go to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963 and do some reading, and grab the 3g repair xap as you will need it after installing the other xap to repair your 3g data.
Hope this may help you out, and good luck!
Thanks mate!

Hey guys,
Here's what, my phone manages to establish a connection with my computer just fine, as it is able to with other devices. But apparently, it does NOT share my 3g while it's at it. I guess it's a common problem?

Oh and bluetooth tethering does not work either(similarly)

The only way that I know of to tether without root is to pay your carrier a fee (most probably a monthly fee) to enable it for you.
There are apps in the playstore that are supposed to work, but I haven't tried any so I can't say how well they work.

NUMA is my main ROM and I haven't had any problems tethering with it. It should be enabled by default, though. Are you using the native tethering app?

WiFi or USB? I've only used WiFi, but not in a while so I'll double check it when I get home in a couple of hours. As far as USB tethering goes, I may be wrong but I think you'd have to have something installed on your computer that supports it. A friend of mine uses PDAnet on both his phone and PC to USB tether his desktop but I don't know if something like that is required.

Hey there,
First, let me say thank you for everyone that has helped me in the past, this is a great community full of very knowledgeable people.
Does anyone know of a way (or an app) that will hide my WiFi connection so no one can see it? I use it at work, and we aren't supposed to hook up to our own internet, we are supposed to use the public WiFi (no way in hell I'm doing that) with my tablet.
I searched a bit but can't seem to find anything as such.
Thank you

Nah, just hide it from anyone at work that scans and looks for WiFi to connect to... I of course have it locked so they cannot connect, but I don't want them to see it show up in their available list at all.

I don't know of a hack or app that would disable the broadcast of your hotspot's SSID. I think, however, that some carriers offer software that facilitates creating the hotspot and which can hide it.

I researched this extensively (for the same reasons) and found nothing....sort of. Essentially, if you're going to connect to a hidden SSID, the machine (laptop for me, tablet for you) that wants to connect has to be looking for SSID constantly, which isn't secure. That and I literally found no way of hiding my SSID.
So I thought about it...and I remembered there was an old wireless network on my campus that most people used, but the company changed proxies/routers/everything, so the SSID was 'retired.' My wifi hotspot SSID went from "suck it" to "My-Workplace-b" since that's the naming convention that was used.
This is nice since it's not nearly as suspicious, but more importantly....most everyone around me had certain proxies and protocols set up so that they could connect to that "xx-b" SSID. Those assorted proxy settings now prohibit them from connecting to my phone wifi
tl:dr: I was disappointed I couldn't hide my SSID, learned I didn't want to hide my SSID for security reasons, but then got creative and feel good about the situation.
Hope this helps somehow. Anybody that knows how to right-click will be able to see your nexus isn't a company router, but hopefully they're not that ambitious.
edit: PS: I USB tether extensively. Way less power consuming than wifi tethering (and stealthier). Maybe can't do that with your tablet...but a thought.
A WLAN will always be visible if you create one, all you can do it obscure the SSID by typing spaces and saving. However, then you'll need to go into advanced settings of the client device and enable connections without SSID's. In Windows 7 it's under "wlanSSID' Properties->Connections Tab->Connect even if the network is not broadcasting its name (SSID).

Well, the app seems to work for me on ART. It should work for you as well, I would suggest back up the TWC app with an app like Rom toolbox lite, (it should do back-ups without root), uninstall twc and restore the back up. It sometimes resolves crashes issues with some apps for me.
You are welcome to root your device and will find more solutions. so far, very safe to root nexus 5.

Your hesitation is not unwarranted, but it is incredibly easy to root a Nexus 5. I'd check with others in the community for the app and see if anyone else is experiencing issues.

If you do want to root it, that's how you would do it. I never endorsed rooting though, since I think that in this case, if you just provided a bit more info, we could work it out without the potential of wiping all the data.
Have you tried completely uninstalling the app and any others that may conflict with it?

Hey guys. Can some one please tell me what i should do on my Nexus to get it to connect to the PS3?
So I've scoured the forums looking for my exact problem but to no avail. I am trying to connect my wifi hotspot to my ps3 to watch netflix basically. I can get the wifi connected from phone to computer with no problem (thats what im using now). However, when i scan my PS3 for wifi signals, the only thing thats comes up are the usual wifi signals from the neioghbors. I've tried all the settings i can find on the web but nothing works, like changing device info to Optimus 2 and softap. I'm using a rooted Nexus with the Wifi tether app. under Settings, Change device, i dont see my phone make or madel. Maybe that has something to do with it. I have no idea... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
A guy who just wants to watch netflix on his stupid ps3
